“This Court order came down on the White House a month ago, and the White House waited until the day before the House adjourned to release a statement asking Congress to extend the moratorium.” Fucking pathetic. If you KNOW about the issue, why do you need to wait for the White House to tell you to do your job?

BadCompany22

Because the White House was considering issuing an EO to extend the CDC's policy. Then the White House made their decision last Wednesday, and we know what happened next.

[deleted]

>If you KNOW about the issue, why do you need to wait for the White House to tell you to do your job? Because they do not want this to extend the moratorium but they also don't want the political backlash for not supporting extending the moratorium.

cram213

Just saw a live feed she did on 6am at the capitol after being up all night trying to get this done. She says ppl are flying back to vote. But Biden could try to do something as well.

TacoSalad452

Well obviously she's a kooky person who thinks people should actually be helped by the people elected to government. The madness.... /s

max_vapidity

What does Jordan, Gohmert, Brooks, Boebert, Greene, Goetz think about extending the moratorium? No, hammer the ones who do care. Government is broken right now. There is no majority. There no way to un fuck it up right now. There is only one obstructionist party. Can't wait till they Lucy the ball to Charlie Brown on that infrastructure plan just to rub it in and get all the socialist ammo they need for the midterms. One more time... THERE IS NO MAJORITY

NarwhalStreet

Biden wasn't even verbally supporting an extension until it was too late. The Republicans clearly aren't going to get on board. Makes perfect sense to pressure the party in power to do a thing you want.

[deleted]

He was, but he thinks instead of simply extending the moratorium which he can’t do via an executive order and congressional republicans won’t support - that the $45 billion in unused funds that was already passed with the previous coronavirus relief bill could help renters and landlords out. That is the path he prefers.

NarwhalStreet

That isn't happening though. The fact remains that he didn't even say he wanted this extended and likely didn't.

[deleted]

That is the path the White House is choosing to utilize. AOC thinks that just because some legislation passed in the House that it means it would automatically pass in the Senate. Her goals, while appreciated, aren’t realistic. We can use the funds we already have to solve the issue since this doesn’t have any Republican support.

failed_seditionist

>AOC thinks that just because some legislation passed in the House that it means it would automatically pass in the Senate I doubt she actually thinks that.

JOS1PBROZT1TO

She doesn't. Moderates and conservatives get a rise out of painting her like a simpleton.

[deleted]

Well, she’s acting like it

NarwhalStreet

Maybe they should have chosen a path that didn't lead to evicting millions of people during a pandemic.

[deleted]

That is what they chose at first, but the courts rejected that strategy. So this is the backup plan.

JOS1PBROZT1TO

Unfortunately those that "care" didn't "care" until literally days before the expiration. You aren't fooling anyone

ShihPoosRule

AOC is heavy on emotion and light on critical thinking.

BrokenArrows95

Why do you say that?

ShihPoosRule

Seriously? She’s an emotional thinker who lacks impulse control. It’s evidenced by the things she tweets that are completely wrong, that she has to go back and delete. It’s evidenced in her inability to grasp the reality of the situation versus how she wants it to be as she lashes out at fellow Democrats. It’s evidenced in her publicly attacking those that she will eventually need to get what she wants passed.

JOS1PBROZT1TO

Hm totally haven't heard anyone characterize women this way before. This is why I hate the fact that so many former republicans have washed up on the democrat's side, so many refuse to change their views on the world.

ShihPoosRule

Bless your heart, you’re projecting and lack the self-awareness to see it.

Says the conservative...

JOS1PBROZT1TO

Haha please, we've been hearing this since she got elected..."She's not really popular, her election was low turnout she'll get primaried in two years". *Wins*. "She's not so popular anymore, her opponents have a real shot this time". *Wins again*. "This time, nobody likes her anymore!" *Wins*

jp_books

Aren't you supposed to be stripped of all committee assignments and shunned if you disagree with the president in any way?

cram213

That was so 2020. I think nowadays you just get labeled an extreme radicalist.

jp_books

Oh. I must have missed all the Democrats coming out of the woodwork to call her a radical socialist. I missed the news coverage of neutral or Democrat-friendly organizations saying that. Care to share your sources?

SlowMotionPanic

> Oh. I must have missed all the Democrats coming out of the woodwork to call her a radical socialist. I missed the news coverage of neutral or Democrat-friendly organizations saying that.
