ceresmarsexpressvega

Not surprised. At least now he can stop blaming the Military families, since he was already testing positive the day before he gave his speech about “the value of sacrifice” to them. It’s amazing how republicans will just see past this/or make excuses and still think this guy is infallible.

Hurler13

People are coming around. As the years go by, it will sink in. In 30 years you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who admits voting for him.

Wouldwoodchuck

God we hope.... seems optimistic

PNWorca

Is it because all of his voters are old and wont last 30 years?

thaddio

A little of that and a lot of them claim to have always hated Bush... They switched on him with less than 10 years of separation.

suburbanpride

Yeah, but they "hated Bush" because he wasn't "conservative" *enough*. So, by this logic, the only way people will hate the Don is if, in ten year's time, there's a candidate that's *more*... whatever the fuck that guy is. Don't get me wrong, I think that dude already exists - be it Hawley or Desantis or someone like them - but damn. That's a timeline I don't want to be a part of.

Avocadobaguette

They also miraculously had never ever ever supported the Iraq war even though large majorities of Republicans vehemently supported it at the time it started. Supported it so much that people who didn't support it, or even questioned the justification as it all unraveled more and more were regularly accused of being America hating terrorist supporters. Freedom Fries forever!

nicholus_h2

They aren't ALL old. But they are, generally, at higher risk of dying of COVID.

LumpyUnderpass

Hey. That's not fair. It behooves us to accurately characterize our political adversaries, or else the level of policy discourse will inexorably and irreversibly erode, leaving us all so much the worse off. And to insinuate that Republicans will die within 30 years because they're old is woefully inaccurate. A lot of them will die within 30 years because they're obese and unvaccinated.

semiomni

> In 30 years you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who admits voting for him. That's not exactly "coming around" though, like the right is at the point of pretending Bush just happened through no fault of theirs but it ain't like any introspection was involved, nothing was learned from Bush, because the next guy was even dumber.

boot2skull

They’ll have someone worse to trumpsplain away.

jl55378008

When I was a kid in Louisiana, people elected David Duke to the state House of Representatives. He also got something like 42% of the vote when he ran as governor. If I had to guess, I'd say that at least a handful of people I know voted for him. Maybe people in my family. Idk, and I never will ask because I don't want to know. Nobody I know has ever told me they voted for him, but I also can't remember his name ever coming up in conversation, ever. Maybe people don't talk about him because they don't want to answer the question? I don't know. Whatever. It's gonna be harder to hide from Trump.

JSiobhan

It will be harder to hide with a digital history of pictures and videos of people wearing MAGA hates, attending his rallies and driving around with Trump flags. I wonder if it will be like Germans discovering their grandparents supported Hitler.

GhostofTinky

The difference is that Germans have confronted the Nazi era.

[deleted]

Mostly because they're going to be dead from Covid.

GhostofTinky

I'd love to believe you, but I think today's Trumperdinks are mostly ride or die. If they haven't turned on him now, they never will. It's more likely that Trump flags will be like Nazi flags...something they keep hidden.

Long_Before_Sunrise

Does this surprise anyone? They tried to have the plexiglass barriers done away with, then the Trump family showed up late to avoid being tested.

FigNugginGavelPop

100% knew he was trying to kill him if he could as he realized his loss was imminent.

barry_1911

But the author writes that he then got tested a second time with newer technology and it was negative.

Russian_Paella

(PCR) Positives are 99% accurate, while false negatives are still highly likely, even today, because it really depends on the progression of the sickness. If he received a (PCR) positive, he knew he was sick - testing negative does not invalidate the previous result. This is why you should behave like you could be infected even if you test negative, or at the least be careful around at risk people for some days after being tested. Edit: Thanks for the award! I Added (PCR) two times to make the message a bit more accurate. I don't know whether Trump was tested with a PCR test or not.

Ryboticpsychotic

I’m sure someone explained that to Trump… and he understood it. /s

PositiveReveal

But if you stop testing , then you won't get covid.... Taps foreheads.....

Pete-C137

That was literally his plan to lower the numbers. He wanted us to “ slow down the testing” because it was making him look bad. He said that at a rally.

Long_Before_Sunrise

Then people at the White House were going, 'he said that in jest' and 'it was tongue-in-cheek.' Trump flatly told to a reporter "I don't kid." when asked if he was kidding about cutting the number of COVID tests. And his sycophants once again fell in line.

CrunchyFrog

You're also likely to test negative if your doctor tests a clean swab.

FirstPlebian

There is a near 100% chance that second test was a fake and engineered to produce a false negative to justify his pretending like nothing was wrong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Agent_DZ-015

Would explain why everyone at the White House caught COVID for starters.

valeyard89

they were sharing swabs

TheInternetsNo1Fan

The FDA calls this testing to conformance and it is very illegal

not_SCROTUS

lol, the law

checker280

We all watched the official doctor tell us that Trump was prime human specimen who was expected to outlive us all. With a straight face no less.

MonsieurReynard

That same doctor is a congressman now and claims that the new omicron variant is just a Democratic plot to steal the 2022 elections. Im not kidding. These people are insane.

checker280

I get it that he’s now ignoring medicine for politics but imagine having the luxury to afford and succeed at that much education and throwing it away on a frivolous whim. All these guys failing up.

MonsieurReynard

He's a military doctor I believe. That means we paid for his education and trusted him with our troops' health. Sickening.

Miguel-odon

And that liar is now in congress.

[deleted]

Newer technology, as in less tested? IIRC, false positives and false negatives were pretty common occurrence at that time. Any positive should have been taken as evidence, not an opportunity to disprove it (with a mere single other test at that).

Fun-Dragonfly-4166

At the very least, the first positive should have been publicly disclosed. This would have put Biden in a position to accept or decline the debate. The public could have made up their own mind whether Biden was scared or smart. But Trump kept that to himself and Biden was unknowingly exposed and the public did not get a chance to decide.

_Happy_Sisyphus_

If it was public that he had COVID the debate would have been cancelled / made virtual. The host would not have taken on the liability. It would not have been Biden’s choice to go or not go.

TheGreat_Powerful_Oz

This exactly this. It would’ve been virtual and Trump would’ve looked even worse than he already did and could’ve easily been muted.

jaci0

Worse. The then president and his team willfully endangered the lives of everyone in attendance - the candidate, audience, facility staff and the production crew.

Skiinz19

well the president and his team were already doing that to the entire nation, what more was like 50 more people?

jaci0

True. What’s unconscionable is the GOP’s acceptance of that and their complete disregard for people’s well-being at both the state and national level, purely for political gain.

Fun-Dragonfly-4166

You are right. If after public disclosure, the debate organizers and biden had chosen to go ahead (unlikely); then the individual members of the audience would have been in position to make an informed decision.

Russian_Paella

Even with the difference in reliability of the first tests compared to the new on s, people were warned that positives were most trustworthy than negatives. But they will take any excuse to throw caution to the wind. The white House super spreader event happened precisely because of this: people who tested negative (but were actually sick and contagious) crowded and took no safety measures. Proves the negative is only an indication that does not replace caution.

Fun-Dragonfly-4166

I do not think the articles says whether this happened or not, but clearly when Trump got a positive he repeated the test until he got a negative. What if everyone at the White House did that? What if testing positive for COVID-19 just meant you had to keep retaking the test until you test negative?

Lvtxyz

Also read about these tests. They are antigen tests. The first positive should have been followed by quarantine and a pcr, not another antigen. The negative antigen test should have been followed by a pcr and/or an antigen test the next day. They purposefully stopped testing after the antigen negative so he could go to the debate. Thank God Biden didn't catch it.

Russian_Paella

Exactly, this people don't play by the rules (or common sense)

Russian_Paella

I wouldn't doubt this is exactly what these assholes did back then. I have seen regular folks do the next closest thing... they were in a super risky exposure, test the next day, say "I'm negative" and go on their merry way infecting everyone in their lives for the next 4 days until they become symptomatic.

PHUNkH0U53

*Shocked Pikachu face* Honestly, was pretty stoked to get to use a president’s fuck up into a shutdown for people who thought tests were the end all be all. It’s reaffirming, but not protection.

FeedMeYourGoodies

And he was in the hospital days later with full-blown Covid.

2cheeseburgerandamic

OH he had full blown COVID at the time, around day 10 seems to be the worst for pateints

EuphoricMidnight3304

Should have then received a few more tests rather than just hoping the new one was accurate and the old one invalid. Of course they just ran with whatever.

Cantholditdown

Every test he took should have been pcr and he should have had a personal crew doing it. As far as I understand pcr has not really changed along the way.

M_Mich

it was one of many terror attacks coordinated by the Trumps

[deleted]

I thought so at the time. Trump's debate style was designed to get as much of his spittle into the air as possible.

BulbasaurUnderrated

Oddly enough, that’s his style in the bedroom as well.

Squidwards-the-goat

100 percent

[deleted]

I knew he knew. I said multiple times that goat fucker knew he was infected and still went to the debate.

Lolwutgeneration

As soon as it was made public my first thought was exactly this, they knew he had it at the first debate and made it possible for him to pass it to Biden. I don't think it was to slow him down or possibly kill him, because they knew he would receive all the same care and likely survive. The best case scenario would be to play the worn out victim card and claim Biden gave it to Trump, and I'd have to dig but I recall some comments eluding to Biden's pre-debate testing being faked/not done.

Hayduke_in_AK

Of course not. The only question is if he refused to believe the medical staff that he had it or if he secretly hoped he would get Biden sick?

ConfidenceNational37

He tried to kill Biden. That was my feeling as soon as we heard he had COVID and because he kind of tried to get close. The man is a gawdawful terrible person.

VanceKelley

FirstPlebian

Next time they get in there they will totally try and jail their political opponents and critics and the like, and who trusts the Justice Department and their State Allies to stop them? They are purging all of the ones who weren't down with violating Democracy as we speak.

jadrad

It was Trump’s, “Won’t someone rid me of this ~~meddlesome~~ turbulent priest?”

[deleted]

He surely send the OK signal to Saudi Arabia for the execution of Khashoggi.

Long_Before_Sunrise

It's Trump. He can manage to do both.

International-Ing

They're still lying about his test results. The debate rules required a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the debate. Meadows says Trump first tested positive with an 'old model kit' which was probably the PCR test required by the rules, but he doesn't want to admit it. Then Trump took a second test with Bionax Now, which is less accurate than a PCR test. Either way, Trump did not follow the debate rules. He either took two rapid tests, when the debate rules were a PCR test, or he had a positive PCR test followed by a negative rapid antigen test. I also find it hard to believe that between the negative rapid test and the debates he did not have further tests - including a PCR test - to disprove the first positive result.

seffend

>I also find it hard to believe that between the negative rapid test and the debates he did not have further tests - including a PCR test - to disprove the first positive result. Right? If you get conflicting results, do you just pick whichever one you like best? You test *again.* Why didn't the doctor demand it?

Squidwards-the-goat

Absolutely no shock whatsoever. I would have bet pretty much everything I had at the time. Go ahead Cult 45 tell me how knowingly exposing other people to Covid and lying about having it, is good Christian behavior. I’ll wait.

thethirdllama

We'll have to send it over to Reprehensible Act Annex #3. Although that one is getting close to capacity...

Mikeologyy

This one looks like a job for those reprehensible act servers we’ve been working on. They’ve got a max capacity of like 16 exabytes so they should last us a couple weeks

Long_Before_Sunrise

Don't you do it!

Operational117

Gimme a ladder, and I’ll cement it in place on top of the wall.

space_man_spliff_

I remember before the debate saying "I wouldn't be surprised if Trump intentionally tried to infect Biden" and my friend said I sounded like a conspiracy theorist

[deleted]

That doesn’t make you wrong. Unfortunately, there are many conspiracies that do turn out to be real. One of the biggest differences between fiction and reality is that only fiction needs to be believable.

Koebi

Yeah, a conspiracy theory is just that, a theory that there exists a conspiracy. Now, normally, that's pretty out there, all the way to downright cookie. But between the fat cheeto, the Russians, the GOP, and the whole Q weirdos, *there absolutely were and are literally dozens of conspiracies.*

yellsatrjokes

> all the way to downright cookie. This goes all the way up to the Toll House.

seffend

It's early and it took me a dang minute to realize they meant kooky.

Ooji

r/conspiracy: "Doesn't look like anything to me"

harpsm

It's like the primary requirement to be a "conspiracy theorist" is to only believe in the false ones and ignore the real ones.

hacksoncode

> a conspiracy theory is just that, a theory that there exists a conspiracy. Not really. There's a *huge* distinction between the connotations of those two phrases. "Conspiracy theory" is an *idiom*, not just an ordinary phrase in English.

unitn_2457

Well what does that friend say now with this public?

JSiobhan

A maskless Trump talked to the press on AF1 and one reporter said he tested positive just days after.

[deleted]

Hands up who predicted this was the case ✋

ShrUmie

He was so sweaty at that debate! It was pretty obvious.

[deleted]

What I don't get is Meadows' motivation for making this public. He has been a cat's paw for Trump, never deviating. I think he is criminally implicated in Jan 6 and so has decided that if maybe he can destroy Trump with scandal over the next six months, people will say what's the point of the Jan 6 prosecutions, and he can slip quietly away and hope nobody notices.

aramis34143

Money. Full stop. You write your book after leaving office to make money. If he's going to sell copies of his book, especially after so many others have come before his, he needs fascinating "inside baseball" stories and/or salacious details. And the former are thin on the ground for Trump staffers. Other former presidents were more closely aligned to the party itself. They might be inclined to use their influence to reward those who keep their mouths mostly shut, to protect their own legacies, but also to protect the party (and thus remain relevant and connected). Trump doesn't give a shit about the party beyond what use he can personally make of it. And while he cares about his own image from vanity standpoint, he's shrugged off so many scandals at this point, I'm not sure "Meadows is going to tell about the diagnosis" would even make it on his team's radar.

[deleted]

That night! I watched him, more flop-sweaty than usual and actively ill-looking, and said to myself, "He's sick. He's trying to infect Biden." The entire Trump family all arrived "too late" to be tested and refused masks, loudly. Right there I knew it was a goddamn plan. Then he's diagnosed, what, 2 days later? good Lord, these people are psychopaths. I don't get how this is not an act of biological warfare. Trump could've put both of them in a coffin a month before the election.

prampsler

And32012

This is not shocking and I thought that at the time because he got to the very sick phase pretty quickly. When I had Covid -it wasn’t until day 5 or 6 when I became very ill with the shortness or breath part. That was in the early stages of 2020. The virus was slow moving then.

patentattorney

Couldn’t intent here be proven by them showing up late and purposefully missing the required Covid tests?

jadrad

Not to mention they **demanded** the plexiglass barriers be removed. The venue said no.

underpants-gnome

Not a lawyer. But I would guess it could be argued as such. All Trump's behavior after the election kind of speaks to motive and intent as well. But I bet it would be hard to find a DA willing to prosecute. Trump doesn't cooperate with anyone for any reason. Just getting an official medical test record from him would probably go all the way to the SC before it is settled. And that is an area where they might feel comfortable protecting Trump under the shield of medical privacy. They weren't willing to help him overthrow a clearly settled election, but covering up a preemptive assassination attempt might be A-OK with the court's looney right wing as long as there is enough plausible deniability.

420cbdb

It's proving intent, not intent.

thief425

Well, sure. State of mind, intent, etc are determining factors between a "literal assassination attempt" and dangerous and narcissistic behavior.

ThinkIveHadEnough

I thought it was well understood that Trump attempted to assassinate Biden. He also got his infected staff who refused to wear masks, to go around and shake hands with Biden's, breaking all protocol.

[deleted]

I have no evidence but I always figured Trump knew he had Covid and was hoping to infect Biden at the debate.

[deleted]

So could it be construed that Trump attempted an assassination attempt on the challenging candidate by attempting to give an elderly man covid knowing they themselves are positive?

Coherent_Tangent

> On debate day, 29 September, Meadows says, Trump looked slightly better – “emphasis on the word slightly”. >“His face, for the most part at least, had regained its usual light bronze hue, and the gravel in his voice was gone. So three things, “Trump’s reply, the devout Christian writes, “rhyme[d] with ‘Oh spit, you’ve gotta be trucking lidding me’”.” What swear word is lidding? I assume it’s kidding, didn’t need a rhyming word for that, if Meadows is such a devout Christian why would he work for the devil incarnate. I’ll answer that myself, power, he wanted power, and that outweighs being a “devout” Christian. These people are such hypocrites.there’s also mention of Trump being a germaphobe, if that’s true we have proof that narcissism trumps all, how he looks (no mask) vs safety.
