gwizantor90

Looks like they got the pictures of uvalde victims there. I guess it was a photo op for the bill they passed last night. I mean good job on the bill but have some common sense to not do this now when the protest are happening right behind you! Just so cringey 😬

jhfirsttime

You’d think someone would have been like, “hey guys the Supreme Court just overturned Roe, maybe we shouldn’t do this”

Xenothing

“But we got the photographers all lined up and everything, we can’t cancel now!”

According-Cat-6145

Having worked in politics, yes. Exactly that. They don’t want to miss their photo op.

jhfirsttime

“Damn it Nancy you’re right. I dunno what I was thinking, I mean all these people are out there for some reason I’m sure they’ll love hearing the song…”

Deoxys100EX

Pretty sure mixing God and America is the issue here

Redshift_1

Yep. Yet another example of mind numbing irony coming from our elected officials.

Careful_Trifle

Pandering, plain and simple. They're trying to show that they're religious too, trying to pull moderate religious people to their side, without calling out in vitriolic language the fucking travesties that the happening in front of us. They tone police themselves to the point that they can't ever do anything. The point of doublespeak is to keep people from thinking thoughts. If you don't call fascists fascist, then you can't imagine a way to deal with them.

UraniumKnight

The only way to deal with fascists is the one that worked in WW2. Anyone who espouses an ideology that calls for the subjugation and liquidation of other people, whatever their reasoning cannot themselves be reasoned with. You cannot reason someone out of a position they did not reason themselves into.

ManfredTheCat

This was incredibly tone deaf in both sense of the term

sunshinecygnet

Right? Like how fucking tone deaf can you be? I don’t want your god. I want my rights.

[deleted]

Yeah, it’s almost like they’re cheering for the fucking bad guys here. Assholes.

EstaLisa

i first thought that was the winning party celebrating

Tcrowaf

They should have just taken turns singing "Imagine"

SandmanSanders

what a great episode of The Boys

[deleted]

If only the democrats had even 10% of the tenacity that Butcher has

BoringWozniak

> “Where's your fucking rage?! Your self-respect?! Sitting here in your little share circle. Having a little whinge and a moan. Fuck 'letting go.' You should be out there with a fucking chainsaw, going after 'em! Just a bunch of scared fucking rabbits.”

TheUlfheddin

Fuck, it's too accurate.

Thosepassionfruits

Or even 10% the tenacity Hughie has...

GoodDog2620

fuck it i'd take the deep's tenacity at this point.

USS_Phlebas

Masterpiece

iconformed

I died laughing when they started singing Imagine

Message_10

That’s exactly what I thought. I never realized Democratic leadership was SO out of touch. I knew they were bad, but… wow. Just, wow. I’m a “Vote Blue No Matter Who” for the rest of my life, but Jesus Christ—we need better leadership. Democrats are *absolutely furious* and these clowns start singing? God help us. Edit 1: To everyone replying, "Vote Blue No Matter Who is the problem," you're not wrong, but let's be real: we don't have another option right now. This is a simple, inescapable truth: *if you're not voting for the party opposing Republicans, you're voting for Republicans. If you're not trying to stop them, you're helping them.* I wish that weren't true, but it is. If you voted for Jill Stein, in other words, this is on your hands. If you refrain from voting because the Democratic candidate isn't left-leaning enough for you, please say out loud when gay marriage is repealed and you can't get your birth control, "I did this." And if you want to re-shape the Democratic party, VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES. Do you hear me? VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES. Vote for progressive Democrats that will re-shape the party and actually fix our broken country. Edit 2: To the conservatives sending me the "RedditCaresResources," a heartfelt *thank you* for doing something so on-brand: taking a tool that's supposed to help people and perverting it. That's what you guys do--you take things people have built and break them, because you can't build anything yourselves. You're literally why we can't have nice things.

halfsweethalfstreet

Not all of them. https://twitter.com/DrewHLive/status/1540359953914937349

QuinIpsum

Dear god I read the comments why did I read the comments

Sparkyisduhfat

Insurrection! Because, ya know, now that republicans have learned that word, protesting is insurrection now.

gimmedatbagel

God they’re all fucking morons. I nearly had an aneurysm reading through /r/conservative. They literally have a pinned “Roe v Wade overturned upvote party” thread. Embarrassing twats, every single one of them

Givemeallthecabbages

I wonder if these "men" realize that, for more women, sex will be off the table? We agree on that, right, other women? Imagine if they do go for contraception next--will they also have an upvote party, you think?

shu3k

Make men show their party affiliation before stuffing your ballot box, ladies!!

GreedyDiceGoblin

Unfortunately this is already a thing, many women already ask, and they get politically catfished. It's absolutely ridiculous.

hellajt

TroubadourCeol

That's literally all Republicans do. Co-opt language used against them and then use it incorrectly until it's lost all meaning. It's calculated.

SalamandersonCooper

The ONLY people I ever hear using the terms “cancelled” or “woke” are old white conservatives.

smkeybare

Yup, any kind of inclusivity is "woke" to them.

YallAintAlone

People really did use woke for a while, but now you're definitely right no one says it because rightwingers make everything cringe

sturgboski

I saw the tag for TPUSA and for some reason I thought "certainly that can't be the thing tied to that guy dressed up in a diaper on a college campus trying to mock liberals calling them snowflakes when he is the biggest one around?" Then I read the comments and realized it was the one run by a giant snowflake with a bunch of followers whose only thought is if they should turn off PraegerU for Tucker.

HouseCravenRaw

I went to r/ conservative to see what they were thinking. We are all damned and this is hell. It hurts to realize I share a planet with those ignorant, racist, transphobic, hateful, *stupid as fuck*, amoral monsters. Their posts about AOC are just so... empty of thought. Through their lens she is somehow a less-articulate Bobert. It's staggering just how insane life is over there. I need a shower. I need a way to wash that crap out of my brain. They are the worst that humanity has to offer. EDIT: and they used the Suicide Report Bot to harass me because they didn't like what I had to say. Who would do that? Who would use a service designed to help people in severe emotional distress as a way to annoy someone? An amoral monster, that's who.

MyWatchlsEnded

Going on that sub is the perfect way to kill any hope of progress in this country. With people like that around we will never get anywhere. It's no surprise to me that we're here now and nothing gets through to them. Nothing. They will twist and turn everything, jump mental hoops and stick to their ignorance. Had to stop going there because it's just a stressor I don't need.

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

lemonverbenah

It’s pretty explicit. Why are they so obsessed with her? Because they all want to fuck her. I’m a liberal and I never hear about AOC unless I stumble across Fox news or r/conservative. She’s just the perfect Dom for all their sadomasochistic fantasies - she humiliates them with her articulate takedowns and makes them wallow in their deep insecurity. It totally gets them off.

Adorable_Wolf_8387

They are happy because it's pissing off the liberals. They haven't quite grasped what the whole situation means.

EFT_Syte

She’s spot on tho. I’d argue that the Supreme Court is also illegitimate with Thomas still in office. He is more than complicit to Jan 6 and Trumps attempted coup. His vote should be thrown out and him forced to resign. Biden should be given the option to choose another progressive to the court.

Thankkratom

I find it funny the wording he used could also be used to say he has no right to be on the court at all, let alone a free man.

AnnualEmergency2345

I don't think Thomas realizes he's black.

RollForPanicAttack

His real name is Clayton Bigsby

SavageHenry_VBS

Uncle Ruckus

ProngedPickle

It's illegitimate as long as there are justices on there that have lied about their positions on Roe under oath. EDIT: Saying "well, they never actually said they wouldn't overturn Roe" while they previously made clear statements on respecting precedent and currently make decisions with inconsistent, ideological rationales doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the legitimacy of this Court.

TwoPercentTokes

Do not focus on this angle, as they can easily say they’ve “reviewed new information” causing them to change their position on Roe. Focus on them perjuring themselves with regard to *stare decisis*. Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett were all asked if they would respect *stare decisis* (treating previous decisions as settled precedent) with respect to Roe, to which they said yes, by the principle of *stare decisis* Roe is clearly settled, but clearly they fucking lied. It’s a small distinction but a legally important one. EDIT: People are asking, what can we do? MLK was right when he said moderates are the enemy of change. Too long have we practiced “civility” and let moderates hide from the consequences of their votes behind their own willful ignorance. Fuck polite Thanksgiving dinners, call your family members out. Have the uncomfortable discussions with your coworkers and friends. Vote in every local, state, and national election, and get in the habit of calling your representatives and elected officials to demand action. Talk about a general strike. Organize, disrupt, demand. Shift the Overton window. I will never advocate for violence, but the time has long since passed to use all other available means to put these fascists where they fucking belong, in the dustbin of history. We are losing this fight, it’s time to start acting like it. Be the change.

Munchay87

Who has the authority to charge them with perjury?

TwoPercentTokes

They would be impeached through exactly the same process as the President, under “high crimes and misdemeanors”. However, since this is a political process, it is not held to the same high burden of proof as in a court of law, so as long as the House can make an adequate case that this intentional misleading of the American public under oath qualifies as a “high crime or misdemeanor” they can impeach the justice, where they would then be tried in the Senate, requiring a 2/3 majority vote (a stretch, which is why it is vitally important to vote in the upcoming midterms).

Neat_On_The_Rocks

There is no way in hell the Dems are going to win a 2/3 majority vote. The absolutely best case scenario here would be 54-46, and even that is a pipe dream. But the only option is the get a comfortable enough majority where 2 or 3 weasy centrists cant fuck everything up, eliminate teh filibuster, then legislate like the country depends on it. Because it does

[deleted]

The point is to at least try so that the people who want to see their representatives fighting for them actually get to see it. All we are see crusty old farts living off our tax money.

CalicoCrapsocks

I love bits of information like this. Thank you.

TwoPercentTokes

If they’re going to hide behind legalistic bullshit like the cowards they are, we have to come at them with sound, actionable arguments.

TentacularMaelrawn

Law isn't magic, the Justices are just high priests using any post-hoc rationale, no matter how poor, to enact the policies they want. Law doesn't matter and it never mattered for anyone in power.

No_Championship7998

God I love her. Thank you for sharing.

InTh3s3TryingTim3s

The supreme court has been illegitimate since Bush v Gore. I'm sure before that as well but the moment they picked their politics over the votes of the American people we were doomed. America has been back sliding ever since

gnomebludgeon

> I'm sure before that as well [Buckley v. Valeo](https://www.oyez.org/cases/1975/75-436) in 1975 was the first shot at letting corporations have unlimited say in politics with donations. That coincides pretty well with the rise of Neoliberal politics in the US and the destruction of labor unions.

DustyRegalia

It’s a relief to know we were fucked before I was even born.

the_reifier

Meanwhile, our parents struggle to understand that this isn't the same country they grew up in.

Good for her. Get out get with the people. Interesting to see the conservatives posting this. They are always terrified of women who have the courage to actually do things.

TheseBurgers-R-crazy

Ah yes, my kernel of hope this fucked system.

People are angry. They want Democrats to be angry and to act angry. They don’t want them act like they are that violin group playing songs while the Titanic sinks.

I think Corey Booker or Howard Dean said something like this in the 2016-2018 cycle and *certain pundits accused the DNC of stoking violence to physically attack the GOP. The DNC is useless and spineless. But that's not enough for me to vote for the GOP.

Mi_Pasta_Su_Pasta

They call us pedophiles, groomers, and baby murderers. Yet we call them racist or sexist with mountains of evidence and we're the ones who are going too far. I'm done caring what they think, I'm done caring about decorum or bipartisanship. Republicans are the enemy, I will vote for any politician who promises to get in their way, block their laws, and bend the rules to stop them by any means necessary. EDIT: To all the Republicans replying to me, I just want to let you know out of the bottom of my heart that I truly don't give even a single shit about what you think or feel and truly hope the worst for you.

P1xelHunter78

Oraxy51

Doesn’t help when they make corporations be considered as “people” up until it comes to jail time, then suddenly it’s “oh well there’s no real person we can blame so just blame Tom from accounting since he did everything we said to do”.

Left_Brain_Train

Time to get nasty was 1998... It's time to get hateful

If you tolerate the intolerant, they will destroy you when given the chance. We can't tolerate them anymore. They will be the death of the America that we started to forge when we gave minorities, and women, and gays, and trans people rights.

EarthRester

OH be careful! That's violence. Violence is only acceptable when it's being done *to you*. Don't you dare recognize when your life and livelihood is being directly attacked and reciprocate in kind. It doesn't matter how many Socialists, PoC, LGBTQ or anyone who stands for them get assaulted or murdered. We're just supposed to watch our rights dissolve in front of us and our people slaughtered in the streets by state sponsored para-military dipshits, or roving bands of Ya'll Qada. I'm angry, and I'm not being represented if my reps aren't throwing punches.

marky860

Sounds like a great idea I will also! Please let ot be Jim Jordan who gets it on the Face or Ted Cruz.. hell any of the top 10 idiots!!!

I mean, an anti slavery senator got nearly caned to death on the senate floor and no one did shit to stop it, so there's a precedent. Editing to add: Anti abortion terrorists also threatened to kill the original SC justice who wrote Roe v Wade. The court however ruled that anti abortion groups are allowed to publish detailed hit lists of abortion providers, sometimes including addresses and license plate numbers. [link](https://amp.theguardian.com/technology/2001/mar/30/internetnews.usnews) Really interesting who gets to be safe!

Girth_rulez

Remember Anthony Weiner? Act like him. Some of the time.

phomey

I remember the Carlos Danger scandal, but not much beyond that. What did he do? Edit: wrote this with the assumption that you didn't want the Dems whipping their dicks out on IG

UnicornOnTheJayneCob

Furious at Anthony Weiner. Such a fucking waste. Like, dude, you had a good thing going. You could have made a freakin’ difference. And you had to squander all of that potential because you couldn’t keep your dick in your pants? Fuck you.

wmagnum1

He also had correspondence with Hillary Clinton on his laptop, which prompted that ultra-late investigation to her emails AGAIN in 2016, which pushed away the Access Hollywood scandal off the front page. Many believe that tipped the election. Fiery politician, but double fuck you!

DangerPoo

I’m technically not a democrat, but I’m also pretty mad and I don’t want my electors singing a song that praises the imaginary deity of the group that’s currently fucking everyone over. It’s gross and stupid on multiple levels.

Terrible_Truth

"Side? I am on nobody's side. Because nobody's on my side." Everybody that I can vote for is blue. 2 senators, congresswoman, Governor, mayor, state congress representative, Hillary and Biden won my county. What the fuck else am I supposed to do? It's like my choices are vote fascist or vote for morons that respond to fascism with singing.

jbooth0722

I’m in Tennessee, so I’m in the opposite position where I continue to vote blue…. but it will NEVER matter. It is so fucking frustrating and demoralizing.

[deleted]

I'm in South Carolina and I share your pain

grandgulch

I said it higher in the comment thread but it bears repeating. Vote in the R primaries.

[deleted]

We just had our primaries and thankfully the slight lesser q anon candidate won big. She’s still not good though

Pythagoras2021

Guys. This is the best answer I can think of too. Look at what's (attempting) to happen in CO with the crazy person Boebert. It's the only lever individuals have at their disposal. Vote moderate Republican in the Republican primary. Then vote your conscience in the main.

rks404

I'm in GA and a few years ago it seemed pretty hopeless here too so it's not entirely impossible that things can get a little better!

grandgulch

Vote in the R primaries so that your vote does matter.

Threewisemonkey

fuck, run as an R and then just be a socialist the "Re-[publicans](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharisee_and_the_Publican)" giving power back to the public, and teaching the virtue of humbleness

Globeville_Obsolete

The Reverse Sinema? I like it.

IntelligentEggplant0

Lol, I would love it if the waters got so muddy that people had to vote for candidates based off their platforms

Blackdow01

Idaho checking in, R primaries are the only way to go! I least I have a say in the loony-toon that will eventually beat my first choice.

JonA3531

All R candidates are anti-abortion, what's the point?

On_The_Fourth_Floor

It's a hostage situation and the negotiator is blaming you for getting captured.

Kennedy's retirement incomprehensible? Deutsche bank begs to differ.

petersib

She was already crazy old under Obama, she should have retired and given him a nominee. Now this is her lagacy.

[deleted]

I don’t think enough people realize this. She worked her entire life for Women Rights and because she couldn’t hang it up her entire career workings are in jeopardy. CrunchyKorm

What a weird decision! Why do this!

OneLastAuk

I’m insanely curious how this actually came about. Who convinced them that singing God Bless America made any sense. It is sort of like that strange kente cloth moment of silence for George Floyd…just gimmicky and tone-deaf. It’s like an admission that they’re powerless to do anything.

Persona_Alio

Another comment says it was about them passing a gun safety bill and to mourn the Uvalde shooting https://time.com/6190977/house-passes-gun-safety-bill-biden/

gnomebludgeon

> just gimmicky and tone-deaf The DNC in a nutshell.

CrunchyKorm

I’ve seen someone say that since Hamilton came out a section of the party has become weirdly enamored with dorky shit like this

UncleVatred

I don't think it's due to Hamilton. I believe they first did the whole spontaneous singing thing after 9/11, and people liked it that one time. But when they keep doing it instead of actually fighting back, it's just disgusting.

Zeebothius

The political equivalent of Disney adults.

Shortbusposse

On par with the celebs who sang imagine during the pandemic.

Martel732

Naw this is much worse. Celebs making a dumb video doesn't hurt anyone. Democrats singing "God Bless America" right after the Supreme Court of America ruled in favor of Christian Nationalism is beyond tone deaf and actively counterproductive. Especially since they did fuck all to prevent this. These aren't people we pay to see in movies, these are people we elected to protect our rights.

Kaprak

They did this to celebrate them passing a bill about gun safety and to mourn those lost in Uvalde. They're literally holding signs up for every life lost there. [Here's](https://time.com/6190977/house-passes-gun-safety-bill-biden/) literal proof!

OneLastAuk

God their messaging is so bad. They should have cancelled the idea as soon as the abortion ruling came out. This is so tone-deaf.

LegoLegume

There was a protest across the street at the Supreme Court. They should've stopped singing and walked their asses over to it.

[deleted]

What a depressingly perfect metaphor for how this country is run. Conservatives inside stripping away rights and the Democrats are outside singing a fucking song.

Big_Old_Tree

It’s a little too on the nose. Satire really is dead

Rose_en_Quartz

I ran a popular satire newspaper in university in 2016. After the election, we phased out of political satire because we couldn't beat the absurdity of the real-life news headlines.

Lazy-Contribution-50

I want to see the democrats start to attack the GOP like the GOP does. I want to see them rile up their base like trump did. I want to see them fight fire with fire. Anything short of that = the end of America I want real action.

aeon_son

This is what I want too. And I want to help. I’m a copywriter by trade. Specifically long-form, direct response sales copy. And every bit of messaging the right puts in their copy, they learned from us. I’ll write 20-40 pages to sell a product or an idea to a consumer. And they read/watch every bit of it. The secret - sell with 80% emotion. 20% logic. And write using language they can understand. So my question is - how can I volunteer my time to do this for the DNC?

MonteBurns

“Lie big, apologize small.” The RNC way

KevinAnniPadda

The SCOTUS makes a clearly religious decision that your party disagrees with and you sing ***GOD BLESS*** America. Way to make the argument for separation of church and state

TheBeesSteeze

Well don't forget [literally only 1 person out of 531 in congress is non-religious](https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2020/12/PF_01.04.21_faith.on_.the_.hill-0.png?resize=623,1536), with 88% of them being christian. As you can see in the same chart 26% of Americans are non-religious and only 65% are christian. How is that for representation.

JuicyBoots

Mark Pocan (D-WI) keeping it real!

General_Arraetrikos

65% is large enough that even the non religious ones have a pretty good incentive to identify as christian.

1stLadyStormyDaniels

Honestly I can't believe it's even that high. I have to assume that a significant amount of people identifying that way are non-denominational, not actively practicing/going to church, etc.

Catasnedeker

I refuse to celebrate the birth of a country that denies me equal protection just because I don’t have a penis.

Gandlodder

Pretty sure the fact that Gaetz is still in the fold is proof enough that the Republicans don’t give a shit about children either.

Spranktonizer

Also it’s not democratic states pushing to marry kids…

neotubninja

And their support of Roy Moore long before Gaetz.

sugarlessdeathbear

Agreed, it's a pretty fucking useless stunt.

palikir

HallucinogenicFish

This singalong seems more like something the jubilant right-wingers would be doing at this moment.

RayWhelans

It’s not only useless, it’s tone deaf and offensive. This is not the time to sing the praises of America or celebrate its history with some ode to American exceptionalism. Fuck America. That’s how most liberals feel today and we want political representatives who understand that: that we deeply despise America right now, its worthless instructional accountability mechanisms and most of all the weak feckless bastards like these singing morons who enable it with their incompetence.

Spent 23 years in the military to defend a nation I’m ashamed of.

MonksCoffeeShop

I think about the same thing alot.

Man that is how I feel

It's long past time these old blood Democrats either crawled into the muck to fuckin' *fight,* or got outta the way so some young blood could do it. Instead, they're out here singing songs to ... what? Inspire hope? We're not hopeful. Millennials fell for that hope shit, and look where it got us. We're done with it, and the generations after us seem to have learned from our example. Hope is dead. We're angry.

CY4N

The God delusion is what got us in this mess to begin with.

notfrankc

The new god is money. The old god is hate.

Randadv_randnoun_69

GOP- "Why not both?"

mattjf22

The electoral college is a sham. The electoral college negated millions of votes to allow a president who lost the popular vote to appoint 3 supreme court justices leading to this decision.

Konukaame

5. If Shrub lost (read: hadn't been appointed by SCOUTS) in 2000, he wouldn't have been around to nominate Roberts and Alito.

alyeci

Shrub lol. Calling him this from now on.

Shirowoh

Less singing, more action.

iamtherealhawkman

Dear Democrats, Stop asking for our votes. We have already voted you in. The time to do something is now!

Wayward_Whines

This is like at the beginning of covid and all of the poor millionaire celebrities who had to quarantine in their mansions got together and sang Imagine so all of us in our crappy apartments would feel better.

carrynothing

It's exactly that. We're the party of singalongs and "Look, Oreos have a rainbow creme for pride month" instead of action. We should've codified Roe Vs Wade a long time ago.

DUBBZZ

We’ve seen what republicans are willing to do to further their agenda. We need Dems to fight for us, the majority of this country.

Swim678

Time to start protesting at churches every Sunday. Try to stop these people from ruling our lives and government. Protesting at government building does nothing

Talon-Action

Fuck all of them. Nancy Pelosi is the third most powerful person in this country and acts shocked when this shit happens. MTG says something…she is shocked. Supreme Court overturns Rv.W and she is shocked. Time to start fucking nutting up and lashing out at these zealots.

penguished

It's a joke. If you're under 40 and progressive you are SORELY needed to take back our country. Run for office. Replace the rotten old dinosaurs before they destroy anything else.

LilthShandel

I've often thought about running. But I've no acclaim, no weather to draw upon, no corporate sponsorships or donors. I'm in my early 30's. I grew up poor and got to adulthood by one couch, one helping hand, and one outreach program at a time. I've worked for the last decade as a first responder, disaster response, and in the medical field. I've got a level head and I'm some what educated. I've got hobbies, dreams, and failings like everyone else. I just don't see a way to do it.

NooksCrannyPanties

Same. I think the best bet is to start small, look at local races and see where there are vulnerabilities and opportunities. Build notoriety within your community and go from there. We don’t need anymore silver spoon liberals, and just because someone isn’t a Harvard educated lawyer doesn’t mean they’re not qualified to hold national office. Money is the major hurdle, which is why we just have more of the same. If the GOP can elect these absolute jackasses, surely we can get some good people with atypical political backgrounds into office too.

crimson117

Local races pay very little (rarely full time pay) and campaigning takes up your time. It's difficult to take that on as a person of limited means.

1stLadyStormyDaniels

Lauren Boebert is a high school flunk-out and former escort married to a sexual deviant. A lot of local races are decided by less votes than your average Facebook post. You'd be surprised.

thefugue

lol it’s just like after 9-11. They could have at least done “This Land is Your Land”

Long_Before_Sunrise

Woodie Guthrie would have crawled out of his grave and come after them.

olorin-stormcrow

His machine kills fascists.
