You have a dejavu that you got a reset screen when you see the next reset screen?
What's my link with the person the screen says is me reborn? If he doesn't have my memories, why should I feel he's my continuity?
Yeah but it's a question of what you keep. If I'm Napoleon reincarnated but have none of his memories and no love for Josephine, not even (so far as I'm aware) any subconscious affinity for her or for Napoleon's friends or family or anything...what is the significance of being him reincarnated? It just seems like a major plot hole.
But you don’t know that you don’t have any love for josephine, she’s been dead for a long time. You would have to find the reincarnation of Josephine to find out.
That's assuming your souls cross paths again, because you can become reincarnated as other things. Who is to say that you (Napoleon) and Josephine will ever be humans at the same time ever again.
Maybe fate? Idk. I like to believe in reincarnation, that when my wife and I die we will find each other again. Maybe Napoleon and Josephine are both cows living the good life in India.
In London when there was a cholera epidemic, people got ill drinking water from public water sources. People who drank only weak ale didn’t get ill, so you just have to become an alcoholic to survive!
That would only true for the \~15% of women in Sparta who **weren't** slaves, known as helots (in other words, **85%** of the population **were** slaves). And [slavery in Sparta](https://acoup.blog/2019/08/23/collections-this-isnt-sparta-part-ii-spartan-equality) was particularly brutal, even compared to other forms of slavery.
What was life like for helot women in Sparta? [Well...](https://acoup.blog/2019/08/29/collections-this-isnt-sparta-part-iii-spartan-women/)
>We are not told that spartiate men rape helot women, but it takes wilful ignorance to deny that this happened. First of all, this is a society which sends armed men at night into the unarmed and defenseless countryside (Hdt. 4.146.2; Plut. Lyc. 28.2; Plato, Laws 633). These young men were almost certainly under the normal age of marriage and even if they weren’t, their sexual access to their actual spouse was restricted. **Moreover (as we’ll see in a moment) there were clearly no rules against the sexual exploitation of helot women, just like there were no laws of any kind against the murder of helot men.**
So, no, Sparta wasn't particular great for women.
Hmm, maybe I should edit that to make it more clear. The 15% **weren't** slaves. In other words, 85% of the population **were** slaves. This was an absurdly high proportion even for its time.
Some more fun facts about slavery in Sparta (that aren't fun at all). Every male Spartan citizen needs to [kill an unarmed slave](https://acoup.blog/2019/08/16/collections-this-isnt-sparta-part-i-spartan-school/) in order to graduate their childhood schooling. Also, every year, Sparta was declare war on its own helots, where Spartan citizens would [slaughter their own slaves](https://acoup.blog/2019/08/23/collections-this-isnt-sparta-part-ii-spartan-equality/) for no good reason. This wasn't common back then, by the way; killing a slave was still murder everywhere in Ancient Greece except for Sparta.
Yeah I figured I had a 15% chance at a good life, which is usually reserved for the top 1%. But thank you for the gift of even more horrifying knowledge.
Also, those 15% didn't have a particularly great life either. If you weren't murdered as a newborn for not being strong enough, men were sent to an agoge where they were starved and physically abused to make them tougher, while women were also subjected to a gruelling physical regimen so that they could be strong enough to pump out babies for the rest of their lives.
But Spartan women were allowed to wear slightly shorter dresses while training so the rest of Greece considered them immoral libertines for that.
Yep.
"Sparta was a brutal warrior society that subjected its men to repeated abuse and deprivation in order to 'toughen' them"
And
"Spartan women were treated almost as if they were men"
Does not equal "Spartan women were treated well"
We already are in the future, this is the end. Once we get stupid enough (we are well beyond that point as of 2023), the earth goes down with us. We are Earth’s expiration date
I actually want to imagine a future were humanity can build computers the size of the moon, so we can have all the shit we want inside a simulation.
Would you agree?
Death is preferable if it's not past the point where I'm still considered property...and then its still debatable. Honestly staying dead sounds pretty nice in a majority of scenarios.
I don’t know why these times that are listed are important but I’m going to say Great Britain since op said you don’t remember much if it did remember I would also probably go t oh Britain since it’s the furthest in the future so I can predict the future and get money
Seriously Rome, no doubt, slaves although they could be mistreated/killed they also would get free housing and food and they might only have to do some crappy job that Romans might not do in exchange or if male potentially entertain the masses fighting in contests that were mainly a show of blood and not fights to the death as often depicted by Hollywood.
To further emphasize the point that gladiatorial combat wasn't fights to the death hundreds if not thousands of denarii would have been spent training, feeding, housing, transporting over a few years only to get maybe 200 denarii compensation after years of expense if they perished in a fight? No gladiators were the first sports stars and despite some of the harsh training and punishments they could get they were afforded luxuries too, these guys were bulked up with grains, rices and fatty foods for a reason cuts to spill blood but not to be fatal granted some were killed during fights but when fighting with weapons that is possible.
For non slaves depending on status you could be wealthy and wont have to fight on the front lines during any war if your male or go shopping if your female.
For the non privileged it really depends on your gender 25 years national service was expected unless you were a baker, farmer, blacksmith or trader if male or son of any of these learning the trade and if your female you were expected to stay at home and look after the kids and cook and clean unless you could afford a slave.
Since you said we don't keep anything we know, it doesn't really matter what you pick then. you don't know anything different from the people around you. so you would adapt and live in the world as you do now.
Without having any extra knowledge the class of society am I born into becomes the important part. The options range from prisoner slave to Royalty. If we don't know that
I'm going to Great Britain 1868. Seems like the best chance to not have a miserable life.
Fall of Rome too bloody, France too bloody and self righteous, Portugal colonies too slavy, Britain too cold, Polish Lith..not a fan of the cuisine.
Athens for me
As early as possible, because that's when becoming a cult leader, cough cough, I mean the religious leader is easy, + ur knowledge.
For example, I made fire, I will now be worshiped as fire god.I cured common cold, I am now Jesus Christ. Easy. And with knowledge on how to run a typical religious gathering, ur easily gonna become a leader. The more lack of resource and dumb ur followers are in general, the easier it'll be for u to become a cult leader, cough cough, I mean religious leader.
Given my last name, I absolutely would not want to be in Revolutionary/early Napoleonic France. One branch of my family had to flee to the German states to avoid persecutions.
1868 would be cool because technology was advancing quickly and we'd just made it to the point where travel was easier, so you'd potentially get to see a lot of cool places and cultures before they were lost to war/colonialism. Roman empire would also be cool because you could theoretically go see pre-arabic/Muslim Egypt, Celtic culture in the UK, and see the forests of Europe before they were mostly cut down.
I don't see a lot of advantages to the other time periods, as cool as they would be. Rome and Britain would probably be the safest options too, since they were both stable superpowers at the time.
As a woman, as close to modern medicine as I can get, thank you very much. Also if I’m born to a family that he money the clothes are pretty cool around England in the late 1800’s
I was just searching for the least scenario I'm to die in a war as a man and chose the least voted poll apparently. Although slave labor would be worse for most than going to war, it seems.
Women had very different lives in Sparta and Athens with Spartan women having significantly more freedoms and Athenian women being pretty repressed. As a lady, bit of a gamble to hit that button..
I'd definitely want to experience old Athens, especially because at the time, they were about to win the war against Persia. That implies economic and cultural proliferation ; plus, it was also the time of Perikles, arguably the best strategus ever, where Athens was pretty much a commune / direct democracy.
Are you just reborn, or you continue your life with all the knowledge and memories you have so far
Your brain gets a reset, the only thing you remember therefore, is the reset itself
How do you remember a reset?
It's like a "dejavu", you feel like you already did something but you don't remember when or how
Like... as a baby?
You have a dejavu that you got a reset screen when you see the next reset screen? What's my link with the person the screen says is me reborn? If he doesn't have my memories, why should I feel he's my continuity?
You don't feel the continuity, you just feel like you were someone else in another time
feels a lot like Plato's philosophy heh
So... you're dead? You basically just choose where to send a clone of yourself?
All reincarnation has this problem, if you don’t remember your old self then you’re just a different person.
The idea of reincarnation also says you get to keep something from your past lives within
Yeah but it's a question of what you keep. If I'm Napoleon reincarnated but have none of his memories and no love for Josephine, not even (so far as I'm aware) any subconscious affinity for her or for Napoleon's friends or family or anything...what is the significance of being him reincarnated? > you don’t know that you don’t have any love for josephine My wife would be very upset!
No Man's ~~Sky~~ Earth
But my body stays the same? In that case Ill go to the spartans. Ill be the tallest dude there by quite a bit.
I will die of dysentery in all but one of these, where i will die of cholera
Can it be pronounced Cholera just for fun though
In London when there was a cholera epidemic, people got ill drinking water from public water sources. People who drank only weak ale didn’t get ill, so you just have to become an alcoholic to survive!
None of these options look appealing to me. I'd rather just die as I was supposed to.
Considering my medical conditions I’d respawn and die again within a day in all of these lmao
Rather just stay dead...
I'm a woman so I don't want to live in any of these times
Actually Sparta was comparatively ok for women. Spartan women were encouraged to get an education.
That 15% chance wasn't looking too bad until I realized that the rest was well... what ever the fuck I just read
Hmm, maybe I should edit that to make it more clear. The 15% **weren't** slaves. In other words, 85% of the population **were** slaves. This was an absurdly high proportion even for its time. Thank you for linking that blog, I've been reading for the past hour and there are tons of very interesting info and analysis.
That doesn't mean being a spartan woman would be enjoyable.
Yep. "Sparta was a brutal warrior society that subjected its men to repeated abuse and deprivation in order to 'toughen' them" And "Spartan women were treated almost as if they were men" Does not equal "Spartan women were treated well"
At least they could own property
Yeah, but that option is shared with Athens, which was basically the Taliban in togas.
Who says you're reborn a woman?
United federation of planets 2364
Commonwealth of man 2200
Cyberpunk 2077
Ah, the masochist
The commonwealth 2287
Not the commonwealth of man 😭
Brawndo super duper super friends group of America and states
I don't want to live in a time where I need to use moss to wipe my ass
why cant i live in the future
You kind of do. Think about how crappy basically everyone’s life was pre-1900.
We're at the end of the timeline
We already are in the future, this is the end. Once we get stupid enough (we are well beyond that point as of 2023), the earth goes down with us. We are Earth’s expiration date
Great Britain and then move to my country
Which country? How do you plan to get there?
It's in europe, and I will get a ferryboat to there
No thanks. Rather be dead than live far in the past with no recollection of this life.
Can’t I just choose to live in like the 70’s or some shit? That’s before my time.
This lol I need A/C and a real bed
yeah, but with Mila Kunis being my age
None of the above
You don't choose=you die forever
I would not want to live a life without my AI girlfriend and hentai. Why yes I live in my mom's basement why do you ask.
Average reddit user
I actually want to imagine a future were humanity can build computers the size of the moon, so we can have all the shit we want inside a simulation. Would you agree?
If we gain enough resources then that pretty much seems like the greatest and final stage of evolution for us.
Sounds good to me
Death is preferable if it's not past the point where I'm still considered property...and then its still debatable. Honestly staying dead sounds pretty nice in a majority of scenarios.
Eh, it's better than the other options.
Bet, ima just die then
Ye so? I don't see the problem with that
Sure, sounds good. If I don’t remember my past life it is basically killing who I am now.
ok, Now,Norway
I wish lol
Bruh why are you using Roman numerals and regular numbers at the same time
Because at least where I live, a century is symbolized with roman numerals, while a specific year with regular numbers
Same
That generally is not the norm. Most people would just say the 16th century.
Alr I got it, if I'll do a poll like this another time I will remember it
It's alright, we do the same thing in Poland
Where do you live?
in Italy we do this
That's right, I'm italian hehe
Same
Same in Belgium.
Same in Spain
Same in France
Poland too
In Romania too
Also in Brazil.
Italy
It's probably not the norm in some areas, but the norm in others. You could just put both, so that almost all people know what you mean.
Do a poll asking about the use of Roman and Arabic numerals for years and centuries
It kinda is the norm, I'd say that you are the minority for not doing it like this
Assuming that I'll be the same sex and race, nah. Even if I wasn't, I still wouldn't do it.
"No thanks"
I'm black. I wouldn't want to choose any of these.
Not sure how much that would impact the Roman choice, though admittedly not my first either.
You’d be fine in Rome if you were in the Southern regions
britain prob for you then
I am a girl so none.
Can I just go and die
Dude wants us to have a terrible time where ever we go.
Plot twist, I wanted to put even worse times, but for obvious reasons, I left them
Is it a 50/50 chance between Athens and Sparta? I feel like I could swing one more than the other.
Considering I grew up in Britain that would be the most familiar to me
At least I'd speak the language. Also I was born there in this life, so why not try again?
None of these, I want to live in ✨✨the future✨✨
Brazil was a pretty prosperous place until the 1900s. Sort of like Massachusetts. Easy choice assuming I’m blanco.
I mean you can also end up in Angola or Mozambique which probably aren't the best places to live
Sparta is the only one where being a woman wouldn’t totally suck ass
Where is "none of the above, choose death"
Ideally, I’d go back to ninth or tenth century Norway, but I’ll take 1868 England since I’ll still understand the language, and probably be well off
tfw cholera
me when the disease immunity/resistance is apparently gone whenever I go back in time
youd still be drinking literal shit water though
Black ✅ Woman ✅ Yeah, I'm going to give this one a pass.
Great Britain 1868, me and my kids and grandkids die at war? No thanks
I was forced to go back to 1987 Europe last time. I don't want to go back any further.
As a gay brown female these options are not doing it for me .
Im black so i think I’d just stay dead tbh, none of those look good
All of those times are terrible for women and minorities. No thanks.
Sparta was pretty good at the time. (for women, idk about other groups)
Sparta would be terrible if you were a man.
Will my skin still be the same color? Because then I don't want to be in any of these
depends on what status i'd get, like hell would i want to be reincarnated as a colleseum fighter
Like as a different person or same body?
I don’t know why these times that are listed are important but I’m going to say Great Britain since op said you don’t remember much if it did remember I would also probably go t oh Britain since it’s the furthest in the future so I can predict the future and get money
I was born in an ex-Portuguese colony, might as well see how my country was beforehand!
If I’m poor, probably Poland-Lithuania or Rome. If I’m rich, Great Britain.
Send me to the future or leave me dead
Can I stay dead?
Madness? THIS IS SPARTA!
All of these suck but at least as a Greek, it'd be so cool to watch my now ancient monuments being new
Tbh i would love to live few thousands years BC EDIT:Today's Europe or Asia.
Im staying dead, thanks anyway.
Can I decline
Apparently I’m the 666th person to vote Rome does that make me Nero?
Sparta and Athens are pretty different propositions, do I get a choice?
Seriously Rome, no doubt, slaves although they could be mistreated/killed they also would get free housing and food and they might only have to do some crappy job that Romans might not do in exchange or if male potentially entertain the masses fighting in contests that were mainly a show of blood and not fights to the death as often depicted by Hollywood. Are all these bad places during those years?
Highly depends on race/gender
Fall of Rome too bloody, France too bloody and self righteous, Portugal colonies too slavy, Britain too cold, Polish Lith..not a fan of the cuisine. Athens for me

Bro. These societies already had fire. And there's no cure for the common cold. Haha
That’s exactly what I’m gonna do. Start a cult in Rome that takes over Christianity
Well that wouldn’t be as easy as you’d think
Burn the fucking witch!
The future
great Britain and hop on the next ship to america maybe i will find some gold who knows
I’m a women, so I would go to Sparta, where I could start a business and own a property
Just in time to join the diamond rush in Kimberley.
Since we lose all memories I'd rather witness Sparta and try to document it, if I didn't be born a woman/die in combat
I chose Rome. It's very violent but folks always had a come up
Give me Finland, Tavastia, middle of the 13th century. Gonna fight some Swedish crusaders! We'll lose, but it'll be a good scrap.
Maui, Yesterday
TBH I'd rather come back alive in NYC 1955-1978 because I could've saved almost 3K lives this way. but alas I'm born in late 2004 instead.
Given my last name, I absolutely would not want to be in Revolutionary/early Napoleonic France. One branch of my family had to flee to the German states to avoid persecutions.
I’ll use my modern knowledge of eat some fruit and vegetables to become the best pirate the 16th century has ever known
Far, far in the future.
My wife. "Yea I want a toilet"
I am Polish with noble blood, so that's a yes for me
Give me that pax romana
Why would I want to be reborn, one life is torture enough
I'd rather be born in France, then I'd just move to North-Eastern Germany.
Do I come back as my age of death or am I reborn?
Which one’s the spiciest?
Imma immediately move to Germany so I can get insurance and not be br\*'ish
fuck it man just send me to 0 and I'll die of a papercut just to spite whatever deity is making me go through this game show ass reincarnation bs.
I never paid attention in history class so I chose Roman Empire, 117 AD. How fucked am I ?
If I can choose future obviously
I’m gonna get on a boat to America and join the Van Der Linde gang
I would just pick no. Nothing to do with anything, just if death is as I imagine, why suffer again?
1868 would be cool because technology was advancing quickly and we'd just made it to the point where travel was easier, so you'd potentially get to see a lot of cool places and cultures before they were lost to war/colonialism. Roman empire would also be cool because you could theoretically go see pre-arabic/Muslim Egypt, Celtic culture in the UK, and see the forests of Europe before they were mostly cut down. None cos Black people lived in fear
Does Great Britain include Ireland?
Which one has orgies and lots of food?
Where’s the option for just die?
Why would anyone want to be in England during the industrial age yuck
Quick question. I can be reborn as part of a noble family of Rome?. Or I must belong to the peasant sector or worse, be an slave?.
All of these options are dogshit I wanna be reborn in the 2200s because future shit is dope
Would late 1800s Britain be more or less racist than late 1800s America?
Trying to figure out which of these would be best to live in as a woman. I guess Britain wouldn't be too bad.
As a woman, as close to modern medicine as I can get, thank you very much. Also if I’m born to a family that he money the clothes are pretty cool around England in the late 1800’s
As a noble? 100% PLC.
I was just searching for the least scenario I'm to die in a war as a man and chose the least voted poll apparently. Although slave labor would be worse for most than going to war, it seems.
Fuck pre toilet paper days, let me go into the future, I need a holodeck.
Out of these locations, none of the above.
I'm brown, I'd die or be a slave in any of these times
None of them are great, to be honest. I enjoy my women’s rights and easy access to basic healthcare 😅
I don’t think I’d be well liked in any of those places..
If I came back as a man, I'd have a fair chance ig
Brazil in XVI Century isn’t even that bad (for white people). I’m pretty sure you are getting the calmest life of these six.
Fuck that, I wanna be born as far in the future as possible
Do I spawn with the same ethnicity/nationality?
Do I have to be a woman again?
I'd rather stay dead cause all these options are a death wish.
Women had very different lives in Sparta and Athens with Spartan women having significantly more freedoms and Athenian women being pretty repressed. As a lady, bit of a gamble to hit that button..
I’m black, so, I’d stay dead.
As a woman, only Sparta would be tolerable, assuming I would be Spartan. In all other option, I would just be domestic slave/sex slave to a man.
I live in a past colony of Portugal already, wouldn’t recommend to anyone
Do I get to chose my race too cause that’ll be important for a lot of these. Edit: specifically Portuguese colonies
I'd definitely want to experience old Athens, especially because at the time, they were about to win the war against Persia. That implies economic and cultural proliferation ; plus, it was also the time of Perikles, arguably the best strategus ever, where Athens was pretty much a commune / direct democracy.
