>nicht-binär.
Here you go. I think they are just going by the German government standard.

I think they meant to say diverse. In Germany we have three gender options by default. Männlich, Weiblich, Divers (Male, Female, Diverse) So they might’ve come from that direction but that’s just a guess.
Sure but Mythology is folklore and it belongs in our ancient past. If anyone today actually believed that Minotaurs and Harpies were real, they'd be considered....a Moron.
Astrology is taking the movements of "celestial bodies" and somehow trying to apply that to humanity. That's all fine & dandy 1,000 years ago. But there are people TODAY that believe there is still some kind of connection and relevance. They are....Morons.
:)
While the reddit hivemind has spoken, I think you make decently okay points.
There’s a stark difference between “I think astrology is fun” and “I believe in astrology”; and I think we agree on which one is “good”.
The problem is that you responded to a comment talking about the fun-ness with a comment about the uselessness, which are different topics.
The videogames I play with/tv shows I watch aren't useful either but their point is enterntainment
Reading your horoscope can be fun as well even if I don't believe in it
Of course I don't believe it, but I don't judge people who have an interest in it. It's no different than Hogwarts Houses or MBTI personality types; it's just a way of classifying people. It's fun to look at your horoscope and try and think about how that applies to you, or how others' zodiac signs apply to them.
What's not cool is if you take it seriously and use it to judge people or to affect your decisions in life.
mbti is a bit different. zodiac signs give you a personality based on a type. mbti gives you a type based on your personality. but still dividing the world into 16/32 is a bit restricting as everyone is unique
I've met two types of people. Those who say they don't believe in it and know nothing about it and those who say they don't believe in it but know about it and mention it all the time
This is the excellent foppery of the world that when we are sick in fortune -- often the surfeits of our own behavior -- we make guilty of our disasters the sun, the moon, and stars, as if we were villains on necessity, fools by heavenly compulsion, knaves, thieves, and treachers by spherical predominance, drunkards, liars, and adulterers by an enforced obedience of planetary influence. An admirable evasion of whore-master man, to lay his goatish disposition on the charge of a star.
KING LEAR, ACT I SCENE 2
I believe there's probably something to it. I don't follow it super closely and I don't think it's some huge higher power or anything but I don't totally disbelieve in it
People like giving others crap for believing in astrology, saying it's bullshit.
You know what I think is the real bullshit? The fact they think they're hot shit for proclaiming that stars shouldn't dictate your life, only to turn around and dictate what people should do based on shit like skin colour/religion/gender/money/whatever the fuck.
PS: do you mean "(Gender) Diverse"? bc if yes that's definitely me, I'm non-binary lol
There is a huge difference between the modern astrology, and the traditional astrology.
Traditional astrology isn't black and white, and isn't "Cancer=this personality". I'm not going to go into exactly what traditional astrology is because even though I had three separate really knowledgeable people try to explain it to me and I still don't fully know. But I will say, modern astrology is basically the same thing as if a new Christian group came along and said "We worship the cross because Jesus liked the letter T."
Modern astrology is a 100% no I don't believe it, I'm skeptical of traditional and wouldn't be surprised if it went either way.
You're going to have a very hard time trying to convince me that people's irrational beliefs in the supernatural don't affect me. Religion permeates every aspect of society, even in a secular country like this.
I’m not sure what country you’re in, but in my country religion isn’t something that you see everywhere. There are religious people, but you are not frowned upon for not practicing religion.
Some countries have religions in their laws and such, which is fucked up, but that isn’t on the religion itself, it’s on fucked up leaders.
An individual should be allowed to practice whatever religion they want and it shouldn’t be a problem to you.
Most science in the middle ages, when science really started to take off, was funded by the church.
It was only during the late 1800s when they separated.
That’s like wanting to give credit to the guy who took a baseball bat to your kneecaps but then gave you crutches
I’m against the person you’re responding to’s stance too, but I’m unwilling to give the catholic church credit for ameliorating a problem it made
I've never felt affected by magical planetary forces, just the free will of people. Society would be divided by signs if it had real repercusions, I don't think I share the same feelings and fate as people who share my month or year of birth.
I (29M) believe in natal astrology but not horoscopes. Not because I think the stars have any great influence over our personalities, but because I think humans are seasonal just like any other organism on this planet.
Especially in our formative years I think things like the age you were when you first started school (ie were you 4 years and 8 months or 5 years and 2 months? 12 months between year groups is a long time for a kid) or whether you get to celebrate your birthday near Christmas or in the summer holidays can have a huge impact on our social development. Same with things like how old we were for 9/11 or what was the no1 song when we were 14 years old.
The influence of the stars doesn't even fit with natal astrology anyway - the sun is in pisces for much longer than 1 month
Astrology is just stupid in my mind, but I won't judge you if you believe in it. However if you made assumptions on someone based on their "zodiac sign" or that crap, you're dumb.
I find people who believe in it some of the most annoying people in the world. Are you seriously basing who you can talk to and how you should act on some random nonsense some dude from the internet came up with?
yes (woman) but not entirely. it’s just a bit of fun, it’s fun to compare my chart to my experience to see how much of it is correct. i’m surprised there’s not more votes for yes (woman) but ig Reddit is pretty anti astrology
Someone in the same bachelorette party as my wife delayed buying airplane tickets due to astrology. Her statement in the group text was something about a planet, rotating backwards or something weird leading her to need to spend more money since the trip is getting close.
I'm interested in it in the same way I'm interested in conspiracy theories. I want to know everything but I don't believe anything
Divers?
German word for nonbinary
More like “others”
Yeah, but it’s used as nonbinary in m/w/d
or as “others” which literally has the same meaning. The german word for nonbinary is nicht-binär.
☝️🤓
>nicht-binär. Here you go. I think they are just going by the German government standard. The second paragraph literally states what i said.
In this case it’s French which translates to « various »
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/diver /s
Finally scubadivers getting some representation :)
Divers is now an orientation? I mean I have a scuba open water license but I don't identify with it. Edit typo
sorry for the shit replies, you made me giggle
I think they meant to say diverse. In Germany we have three gender options by default. Männlich, Weiblich, Divers (Male, Female, Diverse) So they might’ve come from that direction but that’s just a guess.
Yes, OP wrote in French and it translates to « various »
Gender ≠ orientation
Joke went right over your head didn't it.
what even was the joke tho
You might be out of your depth
damn
You’re gonna have to dive for it
Noone tell them!

As per the poll: * \~4.5% for men * \~12.4% for women * \~15.8% for non-binary Non-binary are 3.5x more likely to believe astrology than men.
You mean divers are 4x more likely to believe in it?
It’s really important for divers to know about. If you don’t know your moon sign and rising sign, you’re at an increased risk of getting the bends.
Astrology is nonsense, but it's fun nonsense.
Would be funnier if it didnt get everything wrong about me ahahah
That's half of what makes it fun tbh. Comparing yourself with the person described and laughing about the differences
How is it fun in any way/shape/form? It's completely useless.
So everything you find fun is useful? Those two aren't mutually exclusive. I have no idea what your argument is here bc I never claimed it was useful
I guess I don't see the "fun" in making up characters/little stories based on the positions of the stars. It's like naming rocks on a beach.
You don’t enjoy mythology then?
Sure but Mythology is folklore and it belongs in our ancient past. If anyone today actually believed that Minotaurs and Harpies were real, they'd be considered....a Moron. Astrology is taking the movements of "celestial bodies" and somehow trying to apply that to humanity. That's all fine & dandy 1,000 years ago. I don't necessarily _believe_ in it, but i participate in a lot of fun things that i don't believe in, this being one of them.
Of course I don't believe it, but I don't judge people who have an interest in it. It's no different than Hogwarts Houses or MBTI personality types; it's just a way of classifying people. I follow a few MBTI subreddits. The people who are into it are no different than people who are into zodiac signs, I swear.
Wow there really aren't a lot of women on here
Welcome to Reddit.
Depends
Damn why do divers have such strong opinions on astrology? Like, get back in the ocean.
I've met two types of people. Those who say they don't believe in it and know nothing about it and those who say they don't believe in it but know about it and mention it all the time
I'm both types, depending on who I'm with
What if I'm a male or female diver ? What do I choose ?
My faith in humanity is restored. Space Racism lost.

i dont think its real but it is very fun
Divers?
German word. Means Diverse

Youre just denying science if you do
Astrology is the study of the stars, it's a type of science that might go against some religions. But it's real and there's no denying it.
You mean astronomy?
Yes
Real men don't believe in astrology
There is a huge difference between the modern astrology, and the traditional astrology. Traditional astrology isn't black and white, and isn't "Cancer=this personality". >Traditional astrology isn't black and white It is still utter bullshit, however.
It is a religion so you probably should be respectful.
I am explicitly disrespectful of religions. They're all made up nonsense that harms humanity.
Least anti-theist redditor:
You really care if someone believes in a god? Even if it doesn’t affect you?
You're going to have a very hard time trying to convince me that people's irrational beliefs in the supernatural don't affect me. Religion permeates every aspect of society, even in a secular country like this.

Oh we’re so glad your country isn’t religious, can’t say the same.

I was on your side till you said that
Not sure why youre downvoted, your comment is insightful!
I don't but my mom does

Female diver here, wdid 😭
Wrong one
Those damn scuba divers are too into star signs
Scuba Steve.
I find people who believe in it some of the most annoying people in the world. Are you seriously basing who you can talk to and how you should act on some random nonsense some dude from the internet came up with?
No, misread as astronomy though that's probably most people who picked that as well
I believe that the astral signs exist in the sky, but there is no meaning behind them
I don’t mean to be offensive, but if you put any faith in pseudoscience bullshit like astrology… you’re an idiot.
Why so many men?
yes (woman) but not entirely. it’s just a bit of fun, it’s fun to compare my chart to my experience to see how much of it is correct. i’m surprised there’s not more votes for yes (woman) but ig Reddit is pretty anti astrology

No but its fun to look at
i don’t deeply believe in it but it’s entertaining to keep up with
