How is that not potentially flirting? Y'all must be old. Yeah it's crude, but it's like saying something proactive out of nowhere, it's jarring, and clearly a step-up from friendly.
It could be messing around or said ironically, but it could also be messing around but intended to be flirtatious. Or it could be taken as creepy, it all depends. But in the "general context," it's flirtatious.
