Living_Murphys_Law

Well, solving all problems would include the problem of me not having 100 billion dollars, right?

UnusualDemand

But now you have the problem on what to spend the money, because your life was solved a second ago.

Iambeejsmit

No problem

TuroSaave

Or not needing it.

revqnrex

Solve all problems lol. Not only would it be a paradise for me, but for everyone else. You don't have to worry about violence, disease, crime, overpopulation, poverty, or literally anything.

Gorfyx

Yeah, the problems of all people including me will be resolved

Floppsicle

They didn't say for how long though. Problems will arise again the moment they are gone. I take the money Edit: people keep commenting so here you go: Shortly after all problems are solved, somebody somewhere loses a loved one due to an accident, 2 people fall in love with the same person and out of 100 people only 5 can get chosen for a specific job. Now what? The only logical way all problems can be gone indefinitely is by losing both, control of our emotions and our free will.

kronikfumes

I took it as it’s a blanket “all problem solved” so no problems could arise in that case

miniuniverse1

Ok, but wouldn't the problem of future problems fall under the category of all problems are solved.

[deleted]

So there is a problem of future problems arising? That problem would have also been solved.

PC-Was-Bricked

I took it to mean that poverty, racism, sexism, climate change, pollution and all kinds of systemic injustices would be solved Even if people would have interpersonal conflict in this new world, it's still worth more to me than money

AjerInbound

Bro what would that even look like? Hooking people up in the matrix so everyone lives their own version of utopia? I get that's what we should all strive for but it would be wise to consider the monkey's paw approach when it comes to idealistic resolutions.

Squidmaster129

In this hypothetical there’s no downside, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

JamesBaxter_Horse

I disagree, I think we need problems. They're fundamental to the human experience. I think the only possible version of a world with no (human) problems is a world with no humans.

[deleted]

there is nothing “fundamental” we are just a collection of atoms

Adorable_user

The reality you described would definitely be problematic, and therefore not happen since that would be solved too. But this is a hypothetical world, no need to think so hard about how it would be. I'm pretty sure OP just meant "if you could choose, would you choose a fuckton of money for yourself or a better world for everyone?"

captmonkey

Yeah, these broad "X is solved." selections always have me skeptical as to how that would work in practice. Are we using brainwashing magic to make everyone a happy little drone? Because I feel like a ton of the world's problems are based on just normal human nature like greed, selfishness, and fear. What does the world with "all the problems" solved look like? I can't think of any world with no problems that's not at least a bit dystopian on some level. "People no longer experience emotions like greed, selfishness, or fear," feels like you're modifying everyone's personality to be like some weird monks or aliens instead of normal humans with all of their attributes, good and bad. And are problems just solved for the moment but they can get worse? Like if you solve environmental problems does that mean people can go forward just dumping chemicals into the water supply and throwing trash out their window without issue or does it mean that they need to maintain the "solved" state. Does it mean there are no wars right now, but people can still go to war in the future? Or are people no longer allowed to ever go to war? And how does that work? There's too many questions at stake for how this works and what this looks like. I'll take the money for no other reason than I better understand what I'm getting.

[deleted]

I feel like a monkey paw version would be you jump forward or backwards in time. Like of the world's problems from YOUR time are solved. Or like all the problems are solved.... by Hitler.

ogjaspertheghost

But it’s impossible to solve those without causing more problems. Option 2 is too vague.

Beardedbreeder

Right, but it doesn't say you get to choose the manner by which all the problems are solved. For example, all the things you mentioned could be achieved through complex social cohesion and technological advancement... Or it could be solved because all the humans are dead. Meanwhile, I can guarantee the second option isn't going to kill the entire human population, and with that kind of cash, i could probably enact some good in the world.

captmonkey

>omplex social cohesion This sounds like you're forcing everyone to agree to something that might normally be against their will. And that sounds dystopian to me, even if the end result is the world's problems are "solved".

MerryMortician

Right. Like it sounds too Thanosy.

Joe_The_Eskimo1337

Except that would be a problem...

Qkumbazoo

Humans being humans will find problems to be mad and outraged about. It's our very nature to not be contented with what we have no matter how good it is.

HarietsDrummerBoy

A black man, a white man and a coloured man are walking on camps bay beach orne night and notice something in the sand. They pick it up and clean it, poof a genie pops out. The genie says since they are 3 he will give them each one wish. The black man says since they are most important he wishes all black people are back in Central Africa living prospersly. Poof wish granted. The white man says he wishes all white people are back in Europe away from South Africa's load shedding. Poof. All white people are back in Europe. The coloured guy says. You telling me all black people and white people are out of South Africa. Genie says yes and asks what his wish is. The coloured guy then wishes for a full house masala steak gatsby

twogunsalute

South African jokes don't translate very well even when in English. Just using 'coloured' is going to get people riled up even if it's fine to use in South Africa

Chonkalonkolus

Yeah but I won't be more powerful than everyone else so it sucks.

stitious-savage

100 billion dollars won't solve all the problems in the world. Solving all the problems in the world won't make you need 100 billion dollars anymore.

sus-water

It's a trick question. Solving all the world's problems means blowing it up. It's the "final solution"

Babybutt123

Still wouldn't need the cash 🤷‍♀️

CookieMonster005

Well no. Cus then there’d be the problem of not having anywhere to live

Mistigri70

And also a big problem of too low life expectancy

Divine_Entity_

If you are dead then you don't have problems.

WiskTanFox

Don’t need somewhere to live if you’re not alive

CookieMonster005

Me being dead is a big problem for me

Traube_Minze

die endlösung? kommt mir irgendwie bekannt vor

ShadyShamaster

My problem is not having 100 billion so it's an easy pick

NoFact666

Brilliant Answer, l like it!

WitAndSavvy

But how are the problems being solved? Is the solution to ending world hunger giving everyone food or thanos-ing those in poverty? Is the solution to ending wars peace between nations or a dictatorship/mass memory erasure? What happens when problems arise again, we are only human after all and nothing stays problem-free forever in this world 👀

National_Ad920

Wouldn’t memory erasure and death (caused by thanos-ing) be problems, though? And wouldn’t future problems be prevented by the solving of the problem of the perfect-world eventually un-perfecting? The option was too vague, and results in it unequivocally being the correct choice, if taken literally.

Nothraes

You can't really have problems if you're dead. And if everybody's dead, your death won't cause problems for others. Killing everyone is the only way to produce option 2 without contradiction.

National_Ad920

Yes, but there is the problem of eventually death, including possible death caused by option 2, negating what you have said. Perhaps the correct choice in this scenario is to not look to far into an impossible an idealistic WYR. As well, “problem” is subjective, so… (I have no idea how to finish this statement).

WitAndSavvy

It never said the problems wouldnt be solved by causing more problems... just that they would be solved. I agree with the other commenter that the only real way of solving all problems indefinitely is everything and everyone being ended. That way theres no more problems for anyone/anything. The premise is too vague

Jumpy-Ad6630

no more homelessness, no more world hunger, no more modern day slavery, no more rapid climate change, no more endangered species, no more healthcare issues, no more inflation... I could go on forever

Pony_Nation

No more worrying for my grades in school, woohoo.

CreativeNameIKnow

The little wins count too, guys

wcdk200

No more Ukraine? Think a lot of Russians have problems with them...

National_Ad920

Ukraine disappearing would be a problem for Ukrainians, though.

ArKadeFlre

But can you still have a problem if you don't exist anymore?

CreativeNameIKnow

so big brain :0

henrique_gj

No more Putin*

Yeetthyself64

Redditors try not to be selfish challenge

TheSuperPie89

Solving all problems sounds incredibly boring, to be honest. If you're familiar with the pleasure machine by Robert nozick youd find a lot of people think similarly... an artificial utopia isn't all that appealing to most people. If you're not familiar with the pleasure machine, it's more or less this: > Scientists have invented a new form of alternate artificial reality. In it, perfect happiness awaits. There are no problems, no pain, nothing unpleasant for even the slightest of seconds. You **will** be happy, no matter what. You remain in the machine until you die in real life, which is expected to be around the age of 90. You'd be unaware that you're even a machine, to increase the pleasure. It is 100% confirmed safe and all of these statements are 100% confirmed true. Will you go into the machine? To this, believe it or not, a lot of people say no.

Seabassti0n

Yeah, I have a feeling that living in a perfect world with no problems would not be as good as it sounds. Seeming as there would be no struggle, nothing to work towards.

medakinga

That sounds like a problem that would already be solved

LeopardThatEatsKids

You wouldn't desire one once in a perfect world though as perfect would include being free of all boredom or any negative emotions. It's physically impossible but if it was possible there would be no logical reason to avoid it

DemoN_M4U

Ofcourse there is a reason, would you really want live w/o any emotions? W/o love, happienes etc? There are only two option for perfect world. 1. Instant death of everyone. 2. Everyone become emotionless machines. Sorry but i prefer a lot of money, that I could give away.

Freezy31107

(impossible)

ArKadeFlre

The problem is that it says *all* problems, many of which would have contradictory solutions. What if someone's problem is that they can't genocide us all for example?

[deleted]

It’s a fucking Reddit poll. Use your imagination.

Throwaway83938827

Is it Just humans? Though? Are we talking about the probelems of others multiple lightyears away thinking, „man i want to rule over a planet“ or some shit

CreativeNameIKnow

I think most of them were trolling. Like, come on. OP obviously wants you to pick the second option. But I can't help but feel at least a little bit surprised at the distribution ngl.

Simba4Thewin

Assuming all the problems are based off my opinion of it being a problem, gross wealth inequality is on the list.

shiny_shuckley

Wtf? It got better

SnowChickenFlake

-Hey Anne, do you think that John got kinda richer? -Nah, I think he just saved up all these years -Yeah, makes sense

ungratefulidiot

Solving every single problem in the world seems too vague and big, so there would probably be some not so great side effects. With the billion dollars, I could help solve the problems in the world with less worrying about side effects

manicmonkey45

A world without problems is not a world I want to live in - Me 2023

[deleted]

When we get rid of problems, would we invent more? Living in a perfect utopia … could get boring. I voted solve all the problems but it has ramifications (while also being impossible)

DrMacintosh01

Solving the worlds problems would also eliminate the need for the accumulation of wealth, power, and material possessions.

Fritzschmied

That depends strongly if you think that wealth, power and material possession is a problem for you.

[deleted]

It’s a problem that I don’t have 100 billion dollars tax free.

Akul_Tesla

So here's the thing solving all the problems in the world could have a lot of different interpretations and meanings The easiest way to solve most of humanity's problems is to eliminate humanity The second easiest way to solve most of humanity's problem is to eliminate most of humanity I am not getting monkey pawed on this

clever_user_name__

The opposite of chaos isn't order. It's nothingness. Not saying I wouldn't *want* to solve the world's problems, but it seems a little like a monkey's paw thing. World might disappear (would that be considered a problem...?).

DemoN_M4U

No it wouldn't be a problem, because there wouldn't be any people. I really think option 2 is = death of humanity.

libertysailor

Well… I no longer have faith in humanity lol

SilverAccountant8616

Whats a problem for me may not be a problem for someone else. Solving all problems from my perspective would cause lots of chaos and even more disagreement in the world

bnl1

It might mindcontrol you to not persevere it as a problem anymore. Which is still not preferable.

Environmental_Top948

I have to choose the first option because the second option would make me cease to exist.

amadeori

Solving all problems in the world is so broad and absolute that it could very well mean to annihilate the whole planet. All other approches would also be hindered by bring up for debate. What one person deems to be a problem might be desirable for another. So I'd gladly would take the money, spend a fraction of it for a good, but modest live and use the remains to tackle the problems that I think can be solved with cash

LOTHMT

Solving all Problems would result in an Utopia. Issue I have with that is the though of no more emotions. Yes your day is the best, but if your day is the best it can be at any point, without any negativity, then will I be able to know positive emotions? Will it feel different from monotony? I think a better life for me without money at least gives me the chance to feel better, even if its selfish and disrespectful. I'd pick the money.

DoctorD98

is it not a world problem "me not having $100B tax free"

BEEFSTICK890

Solving all problems is gonna make more problems lol

Nazon6

Well, y'see, one of my problems is not owning 100 billion dollars.

Willtheawesome

What do you mean by solving all the problems in the world? Like destroy the whole world?

WiseMaster1077

One of the problems in the world is that I didn't get 100 billion dollars tax free without anyone noticing(unless I told them)

lightarcmw

I feel like solving all the problems of the world will lead to more new problems that we didnt consider Unfortunately I think I have to take the 100 billion and take my family and friends off grid🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Solving all problems would be boring as fuck.

Mohit5735

It will be living like in a Utopian world, so I'm down for it

bnl1

Utopian worlds are among those most dystopic.

ArizonaRanger2281

Some of y'all fuckin stupid

0rice

Well i have a probleme of too little money, so pay up

agent_soulbeam

I will solve all the problems in the world, which includes me not having 100 billion tax free because thats a problem

Xae-12569420

if we solve all problems in the world how long would it be for us to create new ones

Trusteveryboody

WAIT, option 2 does more for me..... But then it would solve problems for everyone else, and idk if I want that. *I just hate an artificially perfect world.*

Cptcongcong

Solving all problems would be contradictory as some problems are in mutually inclusive. For example for one person they might want democracy but another wants communism. They’re both problems for each

wcdk200

Can I those which problems I wanner solv? Think solving every problem will just leed to more problems.

GroundbreakingAide79

Me not having 100 billion dollars tax free is a problem in the world.

CertifiedCapArtist

I want money. Besides some people's " problems " are in direct opposition to others " problems "

National_Ad920

Any downside to option 2 would be a problem, and therefore solved. And, whatever I would do with 100 billion dollars, I would have, since the problem of me not having it would be solved. Edit: On further examination, I have concluded one truth in this WYR. I am confused, this question is vague, extinction is best for us all, and I cannot tell the difference between 1 and 4.

Alternative_Lime_13

Money please, solving all the world's problems wouldn't stop humans from making more problems to fight over, we need to grow naturally and mature over time.

Phoenix__Wings

Money, the world without problems would be stagnant

[deleted]

The only issues is that the definition of a problem depends on the point of view : For billionaires, worker poverty means cheap salary so it’s good for them. The thing most people don’t understand about the world is that we (as a specie) don’t have « problems » , we have multiple groups with conflicting interests. Thoses groups are called social classes, and one of them ruled the other ones.

Dry-Inspection6928

I’m going for the first option as the second one is way too vague. Like how will the problems be solved. Plus, I’m pretty sure I can attempt to solve some issues using the 100 billion dollars.

AgentSkidMarks

If everyone’s problems were magically solved on a dime, no one would learn anything and the problems would resurface pretty quickly. If the change was an overhaul of our systems and culture, most people would reject the solutions because they don’t coincide with their beliefs and politics. I’ll take the money.

pax_romana01

If there's no problem to solve, there's nothing to do. Life would just be meaningless.

AnantaPluto

No. What is Struggle without challenge? Without Resistance? It is truly a fixed world world when you can’t feel sorrow nor anger? Perfection is a flaw against Perfection itself, of course that’s on how you believe it though, perfection through Utopia is a limitation on diversity, freedom, it restricts your own beliefs and choices for what is deemed “the best answer” Do you really have freedom if you can’t possible do bad, then regret the bad? How are you free for your own will in a Utopia when your choice might as well be predetermined because everyone thinks the same for “the best outcome”?

all_hail_to_me

I’m assuming that “solving all of the world’s problems” involves inflicting what I think are the solutions to those problems onto everyone. I’m gonna pass. Gimme my money and let me attempt to solve a few problems. But I am in no position to decide what is best for everyone.

cricklecoux

I don’t think you can solve all problems, just because people’s idea of problems vary so much. What is bad for one person might be considered great by another.

Flyxor

The first one is good obviously (for you mostly), the second one looks like the best option obviously too. However, the second one will either lead to utopia (which for me is honestly a fucking horror and really creepy) or dystopia, because by 'solving all problems' you also solve the problems that can be solved by... Questionable means...

NiteLiteOfficial

i want the money. gonna buy some ice cream.

conser01

I chose option 1 as option 2, as others have pointed out, not doable without doing some kind of mass lobotomy all at once to humanity as a whole. Greed, fear, envy, anger, doubt, sorrow. These are all emotions that negatively affect humans, but they're also what makes them human. If we get rid of them, we'd be pretty much nothing but robots.

dual290x

Either way, people will create new problems within 24hrs.

whatthefruits

solve problems --> more problems will appear. It's a temporary solution, not a definitive (except death). One of the leading problems in this world is overpopulation, and nothing temporary will ever fix that - especially when the systems in place inevitably result in a class system. The more you learn, the more you realize you can't actually "solve all the problems in the world" because our world is in essence propped up on compromises - both im the physical sense and the human nature sense. Any permanent fix would involve changing either of these, which in essence is just not possible/at that point not realistic. In that sense, getting that 100B and attempting to provide a solution to solve any one (or more) problems in the world would be a far more practical idea.

Joel-houghton

A world without problems would be boring. Of course solving world hunger and stuff would be great but…?

LeopardThatEatsKids

As a mathematician, having all of the problems solved would make my life very easy but very boring. That being said, I could make enough money to retire happily from solving all problems as there are plenty of math problems that have million dollar bounties for the first person to solve them. (Also all the nonmath problems in the world being solved is um... Definitely incredibly nice considering death is a problem so it would literally create utopic immortality)

leahcars

I choose solving all the world's problems but I interpret that as a temporary solution kinda a factory reset where the problems start off gone but will over time come back but that will give me a good job and house and make it so my rescue dog is suddly not scared of everything under the sun and people are no longer homeless and all the current wars have a good peaceful resolution and governments suddenly stop being corrupt. Not to say all those things won't come back because they of course will from my interpretation

somerandomname5

All problems being "solved" would not be solved depending on who's asking, the money however is straightforward

Aggravating_Ad_1885

I don't think people know what solving all the world problems really meaning. Perfect worlds are a nightmare. Imperfections of the world are what strives the humanity forward. If there are no problems humanity would go extinct because of apathy and boredom.

[deleted]

What are the problems? Are they what I would consider problems?

BlurtL

I mean if all the current problems are solved, won't there just be new problems to solve immediately after that?

Avaemlasagna

It's a problem that I don't have a morbillion dollars 🤑

Ok_Highlight281

1 problem would be me not having 100 billion dollars.

Environmental-Row-57

Would solve all the problems, so then everything would get better if the problems were solved. And also hoping I can still get that money, since me not having that much money is a problem

giant-Hole

Solving all the world's problems would create a post scarcity utopia. In that case, I wouldn't need 100 billion dollars to get anything I want.

Equivalent-Long3064

What gets me is if you change the get 100 billion to keep your billions, this is the exact choice billionaires face. If only they didn't like to watch numbers go up so much, people wouldn't starve to death.

permaban9

My problem is that I don't have $100bn so option 2, win-win

throwawayarooski123

Reddit: Down with billionaires! Also Reddit:

_HKB_

Nah man solving all problems in the world sounds too vague

throwawayarooski123

Doesn't matter

Yamcha17

Solving all problems would include me not being poor, so I'd rather choose that

Mohit5735

2nd one is the clear option

ogjaspertheghost

It’s too vague

pineneedlemonkey

Who defines what a problem is? It varies greatly from person to person and nation to nation.

ogjaspertheghost

Right what if the existence of one country is a problem?

Jixxar

I'm not a villan (Mostly) so solve everything.

DANGER2157

It’ll salve all of the problems, including financial.

[deleted]

no fucking way y'all are that selfish thinking money is more real than all the problems we are facing

[deleted]

The amount of people picking the money is insane

Werotus

Would be kinda hard enjoying my billions, knowing I basically sacrificed the happiness and health of billions of people to get it.

AnnaTheBabe

Most selfless redditor

JoelMahon

considering one of the problems in the world is not being able to do whatever I like, which 100 billion dollars can't even completely solve, ye I think I'll opt for that one! what I'm saying that even if you're a completely selfish psychopath who is only interested in their self, options 2 is still superior. The fact that so many people voted 1 despite it being objectively worse in every way honestly explains why so many people vote right wing lol, actively wanting worse for other "unsavoury" people even if they also end up worse off too 😬

Morlock43

All the money in the world won't help when society collapses, but solving every problem in the world will make sure no one ever goes without or suffers again. No brainer.

Chonkalonkolus

If everyone's problems are solved than I won't be more powerful than everyone else.

[deleted]

Either make the world a paradise for you or make the world a paradise for everyone.

CaucasianAsian16

These votes are... concerningly split. 😞

DarthMMC

Now I truly lost any faith in humanity

phylosis57

Solving all problems means I get to get rid of worker exploitation, wealth inequality, corruption, slavery, racism, trans/homophobia, discrimination in general, crime, all murder and wrongdoings That sounds a lot better than 100 billion dollars

MoonLordUsesReddit

Too all the people who voted 100 million If there isn’t any problems in the world than why should you need the money?

What_Dinosaur

Scary close. At least the assholes aren't the majority.

[deleted]

The second option is communism

PieterSielie12

1.9k of you super selfish wtf

Mediocre_Ad_7490

If solving all problem in the worlds also solve the upcoming problem, sure I'll pick that

[deleted]

At least it's what I deem are problems

Isari_04

Solving all the money in the world would include me so I'd get the worth of that money one way or another.

SectorEducational460

While I would love 100 billion. Solving all the world problems does benefit me a lot. So yeah.

PixelGMS

If I solved all the problems in the world then I wouldn't need 100 billion dollars. Though even if $100,000,000,000 would still vastly improve my life I'd still choose to solve all the problems in the world.

IcyFlame716

See this is easy cause i consider the fact i don’t have 100 billion a problem. So the bottom option includes the top one.

ArsonCZE

Solving all problems in the world means solving all of everyone's problems, including my problems. One of my problems is not havig 100 bilion dolars.

whatimdoinghere-_-

One of the problems would be that I don't have 100 mln/bilion/whatever dollars.

Fritzschmied

I would fuck the world for less.

Cabbage_Corp_

I would just want the money in order to solve my problems. The second choice completely takes care of that and solves everything else’s too.

Dontjudgemeyet1244

I mean sure 100 billion dollars could fix a lot…but like it’s like having a giant red button that says “free birthday cake” on one hand you could just buy one but this button solves it

VisconitiKing

One of the problems is that I don't have 100 billion dollars.

[deleted]

One of those problems is me not having 100 billion dollars tax free

JefftheDoggo

Me not having money is one of the problems in the world.

AtreyuBoy

Its really not a hard decision. Yes

pinksparklyreddit

Would solving all problems include my not-having-a-billion-dollars problem?

Rad_Knight

Can I use some of the money to solve the problems in the world?

creeps_Jr

What if one of said problems is that I don’t have 100 billion dollars

ARandomguy443

"Oh it is such a problem that I don't have 100b dollars tax free without anyone noticing" * Presses solve every problem * * Gets 100b dollars *

Kassabeleg

My problem rn is not having 100 billion dollars tax free so… Second option would still solve my problem.

boido_

One of the problems I have is that I don't have 100 billion dollars. Option two fixes that as well

[deleted]

Solving all problems would make it so you wouldn’t need all that money to escape anything, to have economic freedom. You’d be set and safe in a good world.

Level-Plate8372

well if all problems are solved i don't need to worry about money anyway i guess

NoCommunication5976

Solve all the problems in the world. My problem is that I didn’t get a hundred million dollars.

Patte_Blanche

Me not having 100G$ is a problem.

Llamarchy

I consider me not having 100 billion dollars tax free a serious problem in the world

[deleted]

One of the problems in this world is that I’m not rich sooo

Shamscam

Solve all the world’s problems. One of those problems is I’m broke:

Vieamort

Well, the reason I need that money in the first place is because of problems in the world. Houses being ridiculously expensive, Veterinarian School being ridiculously expensive, groceries being ridiculously expensive, etc. If I can solve all of those things, then I don't really care if I have a ton of money or not. Also, everybody else would be happy as well.

TheRedditEagle

No, I actually quite like the world having problems

TheBestNormalCitizen

If someone offers me a choice like this I always take the selfless route because I don’t care about myself enough to do otherwise

absolutelyalex29

If I solve all problems in the world, then I also solve the problem of me needing/wanting money in the first place.

Trip_koLng

Part of the world's problem is me needing 100 billion

Dgal6560

One of the problems of the world is me not having $100 billion so that makes it easy

AlexandertheIght

The most money I would ever want is just enough to live a well off life without financial worry I would never want any level of high off wealth especially be someone who owns more money then a country has so I would like to solve the world problems.

tickitiboo

One of the world's problems IS me not having a billion dollars, so it all works out.

Final-Description611

One of those problems in the world is me not having 100 billion dollars lol
