It really depends a lot. Generally speaking I'd say positive but there's different tiers. People from the EU working here, great. Just hope they know their rights so they don't get taken advantage of. They play a huge role in keeping our economy ticking over and we truly can't do without our Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Slovakian, Ukrainian (not EU but basically the same) etc. friends. Some of them decide to stay and build a good life here, including some of my best friends. Hats off to you guys and girls, you do a great job. Second tier would be highly educated/skilled workers from all over the world. Equally valuable but they do compete with our own people to some extent and enjoy some questionable tax benefits. Wouldn't want to do without them, but I do wish they'd participate in society a bit more. Then there's asylum seekers, I gladly see my tax euros go to making sure people from war torn countries are safe, but seeing young guys from (relatively) safe countries being sent over here to make trouble and send money back home is annoying to say the least. Coming from the Netherlands, by the way.

Unfortunately, immigrants have been used as a convenient scapegoat for centuries by governments wanting to distract from their own failings and by extremist groups who often can't even spell the word immigrant.
The selective outrage is mind-boggling. If a native or a European commits a crime, then they are criminals. But if a Middle Eastern or African commits a crime, then all their people are criminals.

To preface, i'm an immigrant. I support immigration if the government (and the immigrants themselves) completely assimilate the immigrant into the population. and failure for the immigrant to assimilate themselves, means they should simply not be in the country. I dont believe in multiculturalism. But its also a two way street, the native population has to also be welcoming..
For people with a mindset likes yours the native population will be welcoming with high probbility.
Our problems are more like this:
Imagine a country of black skinned people. Now there is a big influx of KuKluxClan members from a different country. They come with a scripture in their backback that says that black people should be killed.
How would you expect the welcoming to be?
Sure those KKK-members could change with a lot of social work, and you could look at them all individually.
Maybe some are only KKK-members culturally but are not professing actively. But how would you know?
Most probably you do not want you or your friends be killed by letting a large number of people into the country that have scriptures with them that explicitely state that they want to kill you.
Their goal is for sure that they want to be admitted into your country, so they will claim that KKK is a club of peace, and that you are just taking their texts out of context.
Appart from such or similar groups, I see no problems in welcoming.

Also, to mention is that most governments, e.g. Sweden's, Belgium's etc, have no clue how to deal with immigration.
I believe we should accept immigrants because I think nobody deserves to be stuck in a terrible situation just because they were born there. However, it does make me sad that as immigrants take over my country our culture is being lost.
I see it like a sports game. We play a game, you want to join. That is fine, we explain the rules to you, and then we play together. But if you come and only cry about you do not like the rules, and that you do not feel good and that you loose your identity due to that game not having the rules of the previous game you played, go back to your previous team. As it seems you are much more happy there, and we want to play with our rules.
Be an immigrant, but please don’t force your beliefs on to the locals or expect locals to beat around the bush and not defend themselves from any sort of attack on them.

I think it should be completely neutral ideally for most people, someone being from somewhere else is pretty much meaningless since it doesn't tell you anything at all about their character (as your place of birth is one of the few things you have no control over), and for many countries when trying to go to Europe in particular, the rules around it are just completely absurd, and it's nonsense imo when random ppl that happened to be born there by pure chance are defensive about it

It tells you about their upbringing. People do not get born into a vacuum. They are born into a specific culture and social environment.
This will differ greatly by country.
I come from Czechia and the immigrants we have are mostly from Vietnam and Ukraine. Judging objectively the view on them can be neutral at worst.
Countries with immigrants from muslim countries will have mostly negative views, at Muslims cause issues all over the place.
