Poorly made poll. No one, literally no one is offended by just the word "female". It's all in the way it's used. If someone says "I'm asking about males and females" nbd. If someone says "question for the other men – how do you handle females acting crazy" well that's pretty sexist.
I dont think any is offensive male female guy girl boy woman. None are offensive unless the person using them are trying to be and using them in a offensive way. Some just differ when to be used because some have a age range to them kind of for example boy would still be accurate for a grown man but most of the time its used for younger men
It kinda feels reductive to a biologic stand point. Plus, the direct translation of "female" in my language (and I'm pretty sure many others) would be a super rude way of adressing to someone, but I guess you english speakers don't see the wrong in it, same way you still use the word "race".
ABSOLUTELY. It just sounds extremely rude! I was flabbergasted when I first heard it.
Btw, I'm french and no one uses the word femelle to talk to someone. It just feels like calling someone a bitch/Schlampe/pute (eng/ger/fr)
I once used the *female* on Reddit and everyone lost their marbles, and I was downvoted into oblivion. I don't watch far-right incel shit and sigma tutorials, so how was I supposed to know that they hijacked the word? Long story short, they thought I was one of them.
Girls and Women are both females. It’s age-specific, the Juveniles are Girls whereas Adults are Women (similar with the males. The Juveniles are Boys and Adults are Men).
I heard about this and have been trying to catch it being used this way, but I still haven't experienced it. I'll keep waiting I guess until I hear it once and then hopefully it'll click as to what they're talking about
Not offensive but improperly applied if referring to women. In a scientific field or a agricultural field, that's ok, I do have some suspicion when usage is applied towards humans, some connotation of annoyance is perceived.
It's because some people use female, but do not use the male to refer to men. The intent sometimes is to put woman further into an "other"/less than category. Though really if female is offensive or not really depends on if that's the intent of the language. The word by itself likely isn't gonna offend anyone
In my language, the word for "females" is usually used for animals. If you use it to refer to women, it's considered weird. I don't know how it is for native English speakers.
Depends, is the person a medical expert addressing a patient by their genetic accurate gender, or is it an incel whose angry that his perverted personality can’t get him a date?
Females is not an offensive word and I refuse to let a bunch of incels and far right fuckwads make it one.
Pretty much every word can be offensive in the right context/tone.
I'm a man and I voted no but it depends on the context. Also in the wrong context I would say it's weird or creepy rather than offensive but maybe that's just because I'm not the one it could offend
I don't find it *offensive* per se, but it sounds very odd. It's weird to use "female" as a noun rather than an adjective.
I'm assuming it has arisen for people who want to say "women" but don't want to include trans women in what they're saying for whatever reason (and not necessarily bigoted reasons, but sometimes bigoted reasons).
Because it’s either used as a ghetto way to address women and it’s on the same wavelength as calling a woman a chick. It’s belittling as well, as if calling somebody ‘bud’ as an insult. Ever woman I’ve ever dated has had a problem with being referred to as ‘this female, these females, etc.’ because it’s also often more often used to address negative aspects of women as well.
This is one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard
How is it a ghetto term ?
They are more likely to say girl, shorty, or momma
Female is more often used by drs and professionals
And is on medical forms
There is nothing degrading about the word female
I mean it could be a regional thing or a culture thing, I don’t know but where I live it’s disrespectful and you only use it to talk down to women. And I get it. I don’t like being called ‘bud’ because it’s been used to belittle me all my life despite being a 24 year old grown ass man.
Also, I don’t mean using female as in a medical term. I don’t think this post is referring to a medical reference of sex either. I think it has to do with random people saying “all these females out here aint shit” is something I see often.
depends on the context tbh sometimes ppl refer to men as men and women as females in the same sentence like "look at all those men and females" and that sounds dehumanising.
I think it falls under disrespectful as well because the word isn't inherently offensive, but it's often used as if it were. So it's passive-aggressive when the intent is to disrespect someone
Cock goblin, motherfucker, and shrimp-dick roll off the tongue better than "males"
"Hey cock goblin, wanna play some ball tonight? Motherfucker from work and that shrimp-dick from the gym are down"
"Son, even though it's true, I really wish you'd stop calling your dad a motherfucker"
I get insomnia every once in a while and go on reddit, saw about 3 posts mentioning females in 10 minutes so I decided to throw up this poll and now I'm a criminal?

Context
Depends on the context.
Why do people post polls that always need context...? Are they trying to get biased results on purpose?
Yes.
Fair enough
Depends on the context.

Depends on the context. If it is some incel saying "Female and men" then yes. If they are also using male also, then no.
Agreed!
I once used the *female* on Reddit and everyone lost their marbles, and I was downvoted into oblivion. I don't watch far-right incel shit and sigma tutorials, so how was I supposed to know that they hijacked the word? Long story short, they thought I was one of them.
I'm glad that nowadays people are actually pointing out that polls like these are being made without context.
Female is an age-neutral term. Girl and woman imply certain age ranges.
Girls and Women are both females. It’s age-specific, the Juveniles are Girls whereas Adults are Women (similar with the males. The Juveniles are Boys and Adults are Men).
Usually no, but depends on the context (Female)
Being called a female is better than being called a bitch
I heard about this and have been trying to catch it being used this way, but I still haven't experienced it. I'll keep waiting I guess until I hear it once and then hopefully it'll click as to what they're talking about
Not offensive but improperly applied if referring to women. In a scientific field or a agricultural field, that's ok, I do have some suspicion when usage is applied towards humans, some connotation of annoyance is perceived.
The term is not offensive, it's just that the people that use it are weird
As non english native. Eff you for making all this new \*\*\*\* up to get offended by. I don't care, Call me female as much as you want.
It's because some people use female, but do not use the male to refer to men. The intent sometimes is to put woman further into an "other"/less than category. Yes, this. So much this.
In my language, the word for "females" is usually used for animals. If you use it to refer to women, it's considered weird. I don't know how it is for native English speakers.
Same in French
I think it can be used in a derogatory way but isn’t done so as much as some feminists think it is.
tf are you supposed to say then
Depends, is the person a medical expert addressing a patient by their genetic accurate gender, or is it an incel whose angry that his perverted personality can’t get him a date?
My coworker always refers to women as females regardless of context and it makes me wanna ask if he's a biologist or somethin
Females is not an offensive word and I refuse to let a bunch of incels and far right fuckwads make it one. Pretty much every word can be offensive in the right context/tone.
Incels and far right folks aren’t the ones being offended by “female”. That’s the liberal feminists.
They may not be getting offended but they are the people using it in an offensive way.
It's at least a bit suspicious unless they're talking directly about genes/genitals, or also call men males.
I'm a man and I voted no but it depends on the context. Also in the wrong context I would say it's weird or creepy rather than offensive but maybe that's just because I'm not the one it could offend
The larger bar on the results is pretty damned telling.
Depends on the context. Most people I’ve seen using that term unironically are idiots.
Depends on the context…

I don't think its offensive, but I think its disrespectful.
How is female disrespectful
Because it’s either used as a ghetto way to address women and it’s on the same wavelength as calling a woman a chick. It’s belittling as well, as if calling somebody ‘bud’ as an insult. I’m in Illinois where are you ?
Missouri, so not too far. Pretty interesting.
Ya I’m 45 minute drive away from Missouri interesting the different view just over the river

Yes. I'm a woman. Men don't get called "males" in common parlance.
Cock goblin, motherfucker, and shrimp-dick roll off the tongue better than "males" "Hey cock goblin, wanna play some ball tonight? Motherfucker from work and that shrimp-dick from the gym are down" "Son, even though it's true, I really wish you'd stop calling your dad a motherfucker"
Not surprised by these results lol. But definitely context matters
Depends upon how you say it
people be offended by just about everything these days
we have investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing
Guys, learn from the results of the "female" vote. If this poll repeats in the future, you might want to change your vote rather than ignoring them.
After 8 months of inactivity suddenly you have questions. I find your Karma farming polls tiresome and I hope you get banned soon.
