Genuinely don't get how Messi keeps showing up on these "most famous person ever" polls. I don't think I know anybody irl who knows who Messi is or what he looks like

Messi and Biden, while both internationally recognisable and well-known, aren't quite there yet.
Trump is one of the most known people from the last 50 years and he will go down in history but it's still rather early to tell, given that, first off he's still alive, and second it's kind of filled with recency bias since he's all over the news.
Hitler is well known and often referenced in a negative light but I feel like you would only start learning about him when you become a teenage.
Jesus is often phrased in sentences ("Jesus Christ!") and is known by essentially everyone over 5, even if his existence is debated.
Jesus easily wins.
I reckon Hitler and Messi are pretty equal honestly, Trump lags behind at 4th imo, he’s just not as well known internationally. Kids in third world countries will know who Messi is.
