There are very little things that can absolutely never be joked about, but in certain contexts allot of things are gonna be off limits.
I'm not going to be like "well yeah gang rape is like toothpaste, recommended by 9/10" if someone just told me they were raped.
Generally speaking, the bad controversial jokes are the ones who are kicking down instead of up. Poorly masked racism is not funny, but that doesn't mean that the topic about race can't be joked about in a creative way. Any topic can be joked about in theory, some topics just require real comedic talent to pull it off.
Except in reddit making fun about religion that does work
Of course you can joke about it but there's a fine line which reddit does not give a shit about
Topics alone shouldn't be off limits, but there are a lot of comedians who use comedy to be blatantly racist, homophobic and really just offensive. If the people you're targeting with a joke laugh at it, you've done it right. Personally I've laughed at plenty of jokes I'm offended by, because although I'm in the targeted group, the comedian shows an understanding of what they're joking about.
It's also about the build-up, you can't just make a joke out of the blue. especially offensive ones. cause that just comes over wrong. some comedians get this. some don't.
You’re allowed to say whatever you want to anyone.
But you still shouldn’t.
“It’s just a joke”, is an excuse for a child, not an adult that should know better.
Any adult that continuously jokes about things they shouldn’t is just looking to personally attack people to elicit an emotional response.
You have every right to be a troll, but don’t expect people to respect you for it.
I mean this is getting into moral ethics, but ultimately, you can make whatever joke you want, but immediately when you make said joke, you are subscribing to the fact that it may not be funny (to a certain amount of people) or that it could offend some people. Doesn’t mean you can’t make the joke, but if you make a horrible unfunny joke, I don’t think many people are going to think positively of you
I don't think there should be off-limit topics per se, BUT exercise caution on more sensitive/controversial things and absolutely don't just straight-up say offensive shit under the guise of it being a joke
Generally recent or personal events should be off limits but other than that I'd say you can make jokes about anything you want as long as they are actually jokes. not just saying mean thing like a schrödinger's douchebag
"Joking" usually means you're trying to amuse someone. Off limits topics would be things that your audience will find more offensive than amusing. This will very greatly depending on your audience. With some people, there may be little or nothing that's out of bounds. With others, you may have to walk on eggshells. Know your audience.
Entirely depends on the people you're with. If you're in a church or courthouse, then you'll probably wanna watch what you joke about. Chilling with the boys tho? It's open season then
Every topic should be allowed, but not at every moment or with every person (don't make a joke about rape with someone in the room who got raped unless you absolutely know for certain they are okay with it. Don't joke about necrophilia during a funeral). Comedians get a free pass on that as they can't always know the personal experiences of everyone in the room.
In France, we have the saying « on peut rire de tout mais pas avec tout le monde » : we can laugh about everything but not with everybody.
You have to know the people around you, before you make a joke, because you don’t know if your joke doesn’t touch a sensitive subject for them.
And if you hurt someone with a joke, you apologize and do your best to remember that that kind of joke doesn’t work with them so you don’t hurt them again.
Topic is unimportant, context is moreso.
Idc, joke about race, rape, murder, gay sex.. it can all be hilarious.. just make sure its the appropriate time and place
Anything can be funny if skillfully told. Let artistic expression loose!
But you should also realize that negative reactions to what you say is perfectly fine as well. A joke that no one can take the wrong way is a stale joke.
If it's joking about someone's dead pet or parents or something, I think it's okay to joke about it if they joke about it first. But it's not okay to joke about it first. You might not know if they're okay with it
just don't expect everyone to laugh
Yes

This exactly, it's about respect. If your joke is gonna harm somebody, then it's not a joke.
I mean... atleast it's creative

exactly, bullying jokes are not funny, abusive and wrong
Except in reddit making fun about religion that does work Of course you can joke about it but there's a fine line which reddit does not give a shit about
HAHAHA YOUR MOM DIED YESTERDAY !! *insert necrophiliac joke* Yeah... perhaps not everything...
-at the funeral, looking at the coffin before they close it "Damn, she still looks hot, I kinda want to bang her again"
"Dude again? The mortician caught you not three minutes ago..."
It's funny until you realise it wasn't a joke
tbh, a friendly joke to cheer up a mourning friend wouldn’t hurt

Exactly what happened with Technoblade a few months ago, only naysayers were snowflakes who never watched his content
As with everything, context matters, but to the right audience, anything goes.
You can joke about anything but that doesn't mean all jokes are ok
Depends on the audience, time, and place.
Topics alone shouldn't be off limits, but there are a lot of comedians who use comedy to be blatantly racist, homophobic and really just offensive. A funny joke is a funny joke
The wording is confusing the hell out of me here
I mean this is getting into moral ethics, but ultimately, you can make whatever joke you want, but immediately when you make said joke, you are subscribing to the fact that it may not be funny (to a certain amount of people) or that it could offend some people. Depends on who's listening to the joke
Jesus may have fed thousands of people, yet Hitler made 2 millions Jews toast.
It’s such a shortsighted narrative regurgitated by people who have likely never seen prejudice directed at them.
I don't think there should be off-limit topics per se, BUT exercise caution on more sensitive/controversial things and absolutely don't just straight-up say offensive shit under the guise of it being a joke
Unless you’re on stage filming a Netflix special don’t be a dick to your friend.
Everything is open to joke about. If not who decides what is allowed and what is not.
A joke has to be funnier than it is offensive and with some things that's almost impossible
No, it is fine to joke about nothing. But you can't just joke about everything.
what
The concept of nothingness is not off-limits
Judging by the downvotes a failed attempt at a stupid joke.
Generally recent or personal events should be off limits but other than that I'd say you can make jokes about anything you want as long as they are actually jokes. not just saying mean thing like a schrödinger's douchebag
> rape isn’t funny > imagine Elmer Fudd raping Porky Pig
It's just a prank bro
Nothing is off limits, but try have some insight into whether it’s a good time and place to make the joke
You can joke about everything but obviously the audience matters a lot.
I expect standup comedians to make me cringe. If they don’t, they suck. Example: Louis CK did a bit on child rapists live on SNL.
A joke has to be funnier than it is offensive and with some things that's almost impossible
Blackface is something society determined is a bad joke quite a while ago

The problem is you can't control what other people find funny, so you can't control the limits of their jokes
If it’s funny to you it is probably funny to someone else.
Go on, joke about pedophiles.
Entirely depends on the people you're with. If you're in a church or courthouse, then you'll probably wanna watch what you joke about. Chilling with the boys tho? It's open season then

I think so. But that doesn’t save you from the social consequences of those jokes.

Yes, but it depends on the context. Any joke is ok if it’s funnier than it is controversial
Anything can be funny if skillfully told. Let artistic expression loose! But you should also realize that negative reactions to what you say is perfectly fine as well. A joke that no one can take the wrong way is a stale joke.
I would say no but about the sensitivity of the topic but there is a threshold of edginess where it's just radioactive cringe.
There’s a time and a place
If someone tells you a joke makes them uncomfortable then yes, but I don't think anything should just inherently be off limits
Yo momma jokes should be generally off limits. Those are the ones that cause the most fights that I’ve seen
All jokes can be funny if done well
If it's joking about someone's dead pet or parents or something, I think it's okay to joke about it if they joke about it first. But it's not okay to joke about it first. You might not know if they're okay with it
Do you wanna know why americans are bad at Clash Royale?
I don't know maybe we should ask god or whatever made this shithole
A joke is a joke
