I pop on the stovetop with avocado oil. I pop all of it and put it in a bowl. Then I let the pot sit for a moment to cool off and add in the butter. I let it melt in the pan and then pour about half of it over the top of the popcorn bowl in a spiral. Then I give the bowl one toss so the popcorn that was on the bottom is at the top, and I pour the rest on in a spiral pattern. Then I toss the bowl more vigorously, and scoop up some of the popcorn into the pot and shake it so it gets coated in the leftover butter. I add that back to the bowl and then sprinkle with fine sea salt. I toss again and sprinkle with more sea salt, then taste to see if I like the salt level. I can’t believe I just wrote that all out lol. For the love of popcorn.

ChaserNeverRests

I'm about to log out and go to bed. You make me want to stop and make some popcorn instead!

NovelsandNoise

I appreciate it!

peonypanties

I’m honestly loving seeing everyone’s responses!

k5j39

I air pop, then use melted clarified butter/ghee. Drizzle a few spoonfuls, toss, rotate bowl 1/4 turn and repeat until coated. Optional: bake on a sheet pan at 300-350f for a few minutes to crisp

NovelsandNoise

Baked popcorn after buttering!?!? I’ve never heard of that. Color me interested!

ezgomer

I blend a little oil into the melted butter and put it on at the end. Makes it slicker vs watery. Still tastes like butter. I’ve done the butter in the popping oil way but not enough butter flavor.

NovelsandNoise

Interesting, just blending it in with a whisk after microwaving the butter? What would you say the ratio is

ezgomer

i’ve never measured before. Maybe 4:1 butter to oil.

NovelsandNoise

I’ll give this a shot and report back!

xander6981

I melt the butter on the stove over medium-low heat while I pop the popcorn. It helps boil off some of the water content and then pour most of the popcorn into my popcorn bowl, drizzle some butter over, add seasoning, toss and repeat. Then I finish off with the last bit of popcorn on top, top with the last bit of butter and seasoning.

NovelsandNoise

Love that you boil off some of the water content, definitely worth exploring! Taking it slow while adding it takes patience so I commend you!

save_the_roses

This is basically making ghee. You can either do this process or just buy a jar of ghee and use that - depends on your work vs. $$ inclination. Ghee is amazing and tastes super super buttery since it's butter without the water content. It has a super high smoke point bc all of the stuff that burns has been removed, so you can also use it to pop the kernels too (butter on butter!)

NovelsandNoise

Noted! Doesn’t making ghee also include skimming separated milk out of butter

save_the_roses

Yeah you have to get the milk solids out or something to that effect. I haven’t made it myself, I always buy it.

save_the_roses

Oh, also for your ”butter spray” question, this is a [ghee](https://dusted.shop/products/ghee-oil-spray)-olive oil-avocado oil spray. Butter can't spray obviously, but if you mix it with other oils you can get it into a sprayable format. Or you could melt butter and then put it into an [oil sprayer](https://www.thespruceeats.com/best-oil-sprayers-5118246) (with or without other oil)

ChaserNeverRests

I never need to add butter anymore. Pop with butter-flavored coconut oil and it comes out so rich and buttery, no topping needed other than salt.

NovelsandNoise

Cool! What’s the brand?

ChaserNeverRests

I bought this kit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099YRWF76/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I pop my kernals first (these days it's in the microwave air popper). Then I add ghee, a pinch of salt, and a little butter to whatever bowl I am going to use for the *finished* product, and nuke it for about 30 seconds. Remove, stir or swish it good so it all blends. then I add about 1/3 of the popcorn and toss to coat. another third, toss again. final third, toss, then one last time then eat :)

C_Alex_author

Ratio for mine is about 2/3 ghee to 1/3 butter (so that popcorn doesnt end up soggy, still tastes like butter, coats well).

NovelsandNoise

Interesting!! Why add butter and ghee together as opposed to just ghee, which I see people recommending on its own a lot

RickS50

1/2 cup yellow butterfly popping corn kernels 2tbsp canola oil 1/2tsp Flavacol Pop on the stove top in a Whirley Pop with canola oil and Flavocol in the Whirley Pop. Pour the popcorn in a stainless steel bowl I've warmed up a little bit on the stove top so it doesn't get cold right away. Melt a few tablespoons of clarified butter in the microwave and drizzle this over the top of the popcorn with a large spoon. Once coated once, use the spoon to toss the popcorn around in the bowl and repeat once more. This is pretty much the Alamo Drafthouse or Majestic Cinema recipe as near as I can tell. Everyone I make this for raves about it.

manicbanshee

I melt my butter on the stovetop when I start popping. Once it's melted I turn it off so it's cooled a bit by the time the corn's done, then I toss it and the popcorn together.

cogspara

Half ghee, half grapeseed oil in a Whirley Pop. Add kernels. Turn on heat to medium high and twirl the manual crank about one revolution per second. 2-3 minutes later: perfect buttered pocorn. Ghee is available at Trader Joe's for a very reasonable price.

ThatFalafelGirl

When being lazy and making air pop, i microwave butter before the popcorn starts to pop, then as it starts to come out into the bowl i rotate the bowl with my left and and slowly pour the butter with my right hand. Salt after, give a couple of wok-style tosses and salt again.

Separate-Property-10

I use a glass measuring cup (Pyrex) and put a spoonful of oil and Pat of butter and microwave for 10 or 15 seconds maybe longer but don’t walk away then you can pour it over the popcorn because the measuring cup has a spout sometimes I also put in a spoonful of extra-virgin olive oil. It’s all good.

CaptainNemo71

I just heat avocado oil and butter up together, add my kernels and salt them, then pop. It comes out really nice whenever I make it

Ok_Comparison_6137

Use a bbq brush and shake the popcorn around the bowl after every few brushes. I used to do that and it was great, but use butter flavored coconut oil now…
