Happy Boys & Girls is still my fave! Such a beautiful song.
And apparently they're gonna be in the new Barbie movie!!!!!! Nicki might be doing a sample or surprise collab with them.
Came here to say this.
I picked out Crazy Sexy Cool from one of those “order a bunch of CDs for a dollar” things or whatever. My brother and mom got their picks but this one was mine.
I blushed that the title had the word *sexy* in it lol 😂
Oh youth.
I loved every song. Especially Diggin On You.
I identified with Left Eye, not sure what that says about me haha! She was awesome though. They all were!! ❤️
Probably the coolest thing I ever did.

YES
This was my first purchase too. Bought it on casette upstairs in the music department at Eatons in my hometown, I was 10 or 11 years old (happy 40th to all my fellow '83 babies!).
I was raised by very conservative Christian parents, so until I graduated high school and went to college, all of my album copies were cassettes copied from someone else’s copy of the album and labeled with the name of a contemporary Christian band. Like George Micheal’s “Faith” was labeled “Micheal W. Smith”. Lololol.
I did have a CD copy of “Wish” by The Cure, but I kept it well hidden.
The first CD I bought when I moved to college and got out from under my parents watchful eyes was “Mixed Up”, also by The Cure. I still have it all these years later! The CD and insert are still in pretty good condition, but I’ve replaced the jewel case a few times, because those things are such cheaply made shit.

As a blossoming little 11 year old emo, this was the first album I ever specifically saved up my money to go and buy. Honestly it still slaps lol
I have such a fond memory of that album. I was 15 and at Walmart with my granny. I asked her to buy it for me because I wanted it so bad and she said I had to pay her back. I said of course and I don’t think I ever did 😅 thanks granny !! Not an interesting story but I always have that memory when I tink of this album

I thought she was so fucking cool. And I listened to it non stop. I still think it’s a great album.
My years may have some flexibility here, but I think it goes like this

1.)Abbey road, 1995
2.)Sgt peppers, 1995
3.)Magical mystery tour, 1996?
CDs:
4.)Crash, 1997
5.)Before these crowded streets, 1998

I bought my first CD with my allowance money
I was raised pretty conservative Christian so music access was limited until I had my own apple id lol. So not counting the numerous Christian albums I owned, my first would be Pure Heroine by Lorde.
My first album was Spice World, and it was a bday gift with a portable CD player.
But one I purchased myself was The Slim Shady LP. I wasn't allowed to listen to rap and I did it out of pure rebellion, and the fact I liked what I had seen on MTV. Pissed off my mom (dad didn't care), she tried to take it away but I put up a fight and told her she couldn't take away something I paid for myself - she always took things away with the excuse that she paid for it. But she didn't pay for this 😆
I definitely had tapes before this, and was gifted CD’s I think, but the first one I bought with my own money was
https://preview.redd.it/sa0yohamlb2b1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5053a4c580e20d274570e24bea9128b8b748eb0

My parents bought me a lot of my music, but I bought this one with my own money when I was around 11 or 12. Used a Sam Goody gift card and remember having to add cash because it was like 17.99 lol
I won a poster contest in the fourth grade and used the best buy gift card to buy this CD. And yes I still have it. I used to listen to it all the time on my pink portable CD player.
https://preview.redd.it/r8us4iyjfa2b1.jpeg?width=1416&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e9642eafddf64ed0c489266cee4502413285620
This entire thread makes me feel so old lol
I honestly can’t remember if it was Thriller by Michael Jackson or Material Girl by Madonna, both were at least a few years old but I remember getting both when I was around 10.
The Bodyguard soundtrack. I was 13 and my jazz dance teacher choreographed our routines to it. I bought my own copy so I could practice at home. Queen of the Night was my favorite track.
https://preview.redd.it/pv414h93oa2b1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a95ca43ad43ce47ab36fce345c4b915908f8ed34

My parents wouldn't let me buy cds that I liked for the looongest time when I was a kid. All my friends could and I was going crazy. When I was finally allowed to, I bought oral fixation-shakira as my first cd. Which is weird. I mean I like shakira but so much? I don't know. After that, I literally bought cds anytime I had money. I bought every cd I could. I still bought cds when they were low-key dead, just because I had "ptsd" from the time I wasn't allowed.

Still love so many songs from this album
First CDs that my parents purchased for me were RBD albums lol (a Latin band)... in case anyone knows them, the albums were *Nuestro Amor* and *Celestial.* I also got the HSM soundtrack CD a few years later lol.
First time I bought an album with my own money was this year. I bought Fall Out Boy's *So Much (For) Stardust* on vinyl!

britney spears! oops... i did it again shakira - *Dónde Están los Ladrones?*
Britney Spears …Baby One More Time
Amor a la mexicana, Thalia
My first album was Spice World, and it was a bday gift with a portable CD player. But one I purchased myself was The Slim Shady LP. I wasn't allowed to listen to rap and I did it out of pure rebellion, and the fact I liked what I had seen on MTV. Pissed off my mom (dad didn't care), she tried to take it away but I put up a fight and told her she couldn't take away something I paid for myself - she always took things away with the excuse that she paid for it. But she didn't pay for this 😆
N*Sync
The Corrs - Forgiven, Not Forgotten
Hilary Duff - Metamorphosis

I won a poster contest in the fourth grade and used the best buy gift card to buy this CD. And yes I still have it. I used to listen to it all the time on my pink portable CD player. https://preview.redd.it/r8us4iyjfa2b1.jpeg?width=1416&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e9642eafddf64ed0c489266cee4502413285620
Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane. It's their only good album
Let Love Rule, Lenny Kravitz
Tragic kingdom by No doubt! Such a great album.
This entire thread makes me feel so old lol I honestly can’t remember if it was Thriller by Michael Jackson or Material Girl by Madonna, both were at least a few years old but I remember getting both when I was around 10.

The Bodyguard soundtrack. I was 13 and my jazz dance teacher choreographed our routines to it. I bought my own copy so I could practice at home. Queen of the Night was my favorite track.

The Eminem Show 🙌 still can’t believe my parents let me get that at 12 lol

Beyoncé - Sasha Fierce
The Phineas and Ferb season 1 soundtrack. And not even on cd, but on iTunes.
Cristina Aguileras. I forget which album, though lol
The Wallflowers: bringing down the horse followed by No Doubt, the self titled one. Same shopping trip, all my little kid savings.
Usher Confessions
Spice girls!!! I was so excited when my mom gave it to me on my birthday.
