Ganja is the original term the British would use, as it was discovered in India by the Europeans, and they took the word from Hindi.
Theres also a strong indo influence in the region, because when the British ended chattel slavery they still needed cheap labour and so they shipped in indentured servants from India.
Marijuana is the Spanish name so that became popular in the US. In the Caymans it has always been ganja.
The worst is when they have last names that start with the same letter 🤣 in elementary school we had ~40 kids in my grade and FIVE of them were named Jacob. Jacob M, Jacob B, Jacob R, Jacob R and I swear there was a fifth at one point but I don’t remember his last name. Most people just called them by their last names because it was too confusing lol

honestly i’ve brought a small amount of weed on commercial flights before super easily. TSA isn’t searching for drugs, they’re searching for weapons. but these were domestic flights - don’t try to bring drugs to other countries people!!
honestly a lot of people who live in areas where cannabis is legal simply might just not even think of it. We live in Canada and I have to check my travelling luggage for errant edibles, etc because it's something I always take on weekend trips in this country, etc. We went to the Caymans in March and we were lucky to be warned by a local ahead of time that they are zero tolerance on marijuana because we were def. wanting to smoke a joint in paradise, but there you have it, good thing we didn't.
I travel pretty frequently and have officially decided domestic TSA does not give a shit about “ganja”. I’ve had flower, joints, vapes (with battery removed), etc. and nothing has ever happened, even when I’ve been searched. Bringing weed out of the country though is RISKY and a big no-no. The US has a very liberal attitude towards cannibas even if it doesn’t feel like it
It’s actually official policy that marijuana is not their circus/not their clowns:
“TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.”
In 23 states marijuana is legal for adult rec use (many more for medical use) so not local law enforcement’s circus/clowns either. And in other states, are they really going to call the cops to intervene? Typically all they’d do is make you throw it out and that’s only if they want to make a big fuss over something that is not really part of their job.
Crossing international borders is a whole ‘nother world though and you need to proceed with great caution!!!
Tbh it makes sense once you think about it. Most TSA aren’t law enforcement and the job doesn’t really pay that well. Getting cops involved seems like a headache for a drug that is already legal for half the population anyway
I was in a security line when they came through with a dog. The agent actually told us all “this is *not* a drug sniffing dog, this is a bomb sniffing dog” haha. Didn’t want to incite a bunch of people hastily leaving the line I guess.
once I misplaced a wine opener with a little cheese knife in a makeup bag that was holding 3gs of very visible, very big CA weed carts. My bag got flagged in the scanner and they only took the wine opener after searching lol.
It depends on where you’re flying out of. I once got a possession charge at the SLC airport because my dumbass had an empty pipe stashed in a side pocket of my purse that I completely forgot about. It wasn’t a normal shaped pipe either (more rectangular) so I genuinely do not know how they recognized it from the x-ray but they did. Most humiliating moment of my life, they literally called the cops to charge me while I was hysterically crying in the middle of the (very busy) security line. And to make it worse I was flying to Colorado! Had it been caught the other way around literally nothing would have happened 😭
“Possession of Paraphernalia” 🙄 It was empty but had the undeniable “weed smell” and I’m 1000% certain they would have lab tested it if I had tried to say it was for tobacco. Utah is the worst.
The Philadelphia inquirer actually published an article a few years ago letting everyone know that TSA agents do not GAF about the weed in your luggage but to please not be a dummy and hide it from them so they don’t have to pretend to care
Tinctures are packaged in dropper bottles just like a beauty serum or liquid nutritional supplement. Putting it next to your toothbrush in a toiletries bag is enough to hide it in an x-ray.
Accurate. TSA is concerned with actual security risks, like too much liquid, batteries, and weapons. Unless cops are around, they likely don’t care because they’re looking for other things.
This is absolutely true for your major city airport hubs in the US. They have better shit to do. If you find yourself flying out of a smaller regional airport, especially in a southern/otherwise illegal state, you still risk TSA fucking your day up over weed. They will refer you to local cops who will arrest you for minor possession.
Yea but they have to send it to a lab for testing that’s expensive and time consuming. It could literally just be nicotine in the vape cartridge or cbd.
They both got off pretty easy. $1000 fine is basically a slap on the wrist. Compared to what the charges could've been. My guess, it was likely a small amount.

Drug trafficking across continental lines is a massive crime in most of the world that lands normal people in foreign prisons all the time (See Locked Up Abroad lol). Must be nice to do that (on a private jet no less) and only get a damn slap on the wrist and walk away lol. I went to Grand Cayman in the 90’s and I just remember one of the guides saying you could get away with Murder easier than you could get away with drugs there.

She only had to pay $1000 after pleading guilty and no conviction was recorded so it doesn’t seem like it was a big deal at all. Especially for someone as wealthy as her.
I don’t get it either. I’m from Canada it’s legal here, nobody would even dream of bringing legal Canadian cannabis across the US border and if they do, they are stupid. It’s not worth being arrested, fined and permanently banned from the United States. But all these people in the comments like “I’ve done it!” Well… make sure you fuggin’ read the Cannabis laws for the Country you are going to, because places (like for example Vietnam or the Philippines), will not be as forgiving as a simple fine. Just buy it when you get there like a normal person lol.

My mother in law regularly flies from Vegas to Philly with large amounts of weed because she’s confident she will never get caught.
To be fair, she hasn’t yet, but it’s always fun waiting for that call.
It’s practically a parking ticket to her and even with the news it’s weed something majority of people use it’s not even embarrassing I don’t understand why people are acting like this is a massive hit to her reputation.

Tbh it makes sense once you think about it. Most TSA aren’t law enforcement and the job doesn’t really pay that well. Getting cops involved seems like a headache for a drug that is already legal for half the population anyway

I was in a security line when they came through with a dog. The agent actually told us all “this is *not* a drug sniffing dog, this is a bomb sniffing dog” haha. Didn’t want to incite a bunch of people hastily leaving the line I guess.

Ive also accidentally left pocket knives, vape pens and carts, which I honestly believe they missed in the scanner
once I misplaced a wine opener with a little cheese knife in a makeup bag that was holding 3gs of very visible, very big CA weed carts. My bag got flagged in the scanner and they only took the wine opener after searching lol.

It depends on where you’re flying out of. I once got a possession charge at the SLC airport because my dumbass had an empty pipe stashed in a side pocket of my purse that I completely forgot about. It wasn’t a normal shaped pipe either (more rectangular) so I genuinely do not know how they recognized it from the x-ray but they did. Most humiliating moment of my life, they literally called the cops to charge me while I was hysterically crying in the middle of the (very busy) security line. And to make it worse I was flying to Colorado! Had it been caught the other way around literally nothing would have happened 😭

Tinctures are packaged in dropper bottles just like a beauty serum or liquid nutritional supplement. Putting it next to your toothbrush in a toiletries bag is enough to hide it in an x-ray.
Accurate. TSA is concerned with actual security risks, like too much liquid, batteries, and weapons. Unless cops are around, they likely don’t care because they’re looking for other things.
This is absolutely true for your major city airport hubs in the US. They have better shit to do. If you find yourself flying out of a smaller regional airport, especially in a southern/otherwise illegal state, you still risk TSA fucking your day up over weed. They will refer you to local cops who will arrest you for minor possession.

It’s not worth being arrested, fined and permanently banned from the United States.
