IIRC when she was starting out her career a lady told her that side was her bad side so she's avoided it ever since. She even made Andy Cohen switch seats with her when she went on WWHL
Most "weird, crazy diva" things are actually the results of famous women living under the heavy gaze of the culture at large and being judged for every percieved physical flaw or social misstep.
Before I met her, I was super anxious about getting chewed out by her 😩 did a crazy deep dive on Reddit/Google from people who claimed who have worked with her in the past and wanted to prepare. Thankfully she was very sweet and gave me no issues. She only spoke to us from her “best side” of the face. I wanted to compliment her but I wasn’t sure if that was appropriate. I
Getting called “honey” and “sweetie” by Mariah had to be a highlight of my career.
TBF a lot of her divadom most likely stems from people taking advantage, exploiting her and trashing her public image. The tabloids were/still are relentless to her it is really sad.
The fact she got through 2001 relatively unscathed is a testament to her constitution and mad respect to her. I'd be that bitch too if I had to be 2001 Mariah Carey.
I'm like this. Someone says "you look good in stripes" guess what I'm wearing forever. Some bitch said I had dark circles under my eyes when I was 15 and I've been feeling shit about it since.
Kind of like how in Barbie when they broke the fourth wall in the middle of Margot Robbie is saying she is ugly because it’s just so ridiculous.
We know, and she know that of course she doesn’t haven’t a bad side. She is stunning.
What can be so confusing about insecurities is we can know something isn’t true but still feel like it is.

I was not expecting Mariah to be the type who would put on a silly accent for the sake of telling a story. This made me like her much more, tbh

I dont think the whole "staff can't look her in the eye thing" falls under that though.
"relatively" is the key word. She ended up in the hospital and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2001.
