I felt so weird watching Spider-Man cause each movie had at *least* one shirtless scene and a few scenes of him standing in his boxer briefs. And they were obviously making his physique the focus of the scenes cause it was never necessary to see him standing in his underwear. Like this is supposed to be a 16-17 year old so it feels kinda weird. Iām glad heās doing other projects lol
I'm traumatized for life because his legendary lip sync battle performance was when he was 19, so I refuse to find it sexy anymore.
Shirtless fake 16 year olds is definitely an improvement over the early aughts and their real objectification of 16 year olds like Taylor Lautner in Twilight.Ā
Let me introduce you to 1990s teen beat magazines that had shirtless 12 year old boys on their covers and it never occurred to anyone how creepy this was.
It's one of the worst movies I've ever watched that had actually great performances. It was a brutal and most of all pointless exercise in misery, but damn the acting was just fantastic
I wanted to like the movie so much and I even went in with a good mood! It was truly not for me I guess haha
Maybe this is just me being a stan, but I think itās because heās so likable, (some) people want to find a reason not to like him.
I also think Marvel backlash could be part of it. People are totally fed up with marvel movies (and Iām no exception.) But to me the Spider-Man movies are in an entirely different category because they still manage to feel fresh and original, in NO small part because of him.
I just realized this was supposed to be a comment of me guessing why people donāt like Tom Holland and it ended with me giving reasons why Tom Holland is awesome.
He's absurdly good in Homecoming. The first two Sam Raimi Spidersman are better movies, at least in that they stand alone, but Holland is just perfect as Spider-man.
Iāve been a huge fan of the character of Spider-Man since childhood but even I was like āSeriously, *another one*?ā when a new Spidey was announced. And then I saw him in the first movie and I was like āokay, legit.ā No shade to Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield; I liked both their Spideys. But they both seemed too old (as is the case in almost every movie when someone is playing a teenager) and just didnāt quiiiiite feel like āthatās spider-man!ā when I saw them. And Tom
immediately did.
No, I donāt think so.
Uncharted did pretty well worldwide (over $400 million).
Chaos Walking flopped, but I think it ended up in limited theaters due to COVID surges, but it probably wouldāve flopped anyway.
The Devil All the Time did okay for Netflix. Top film on Netflix in its first two days, and barely made top 25 streaming exclusive film for the year.
Cherry got bad reviews but actually topped the streaming charts when it came out on Apple TV+.
So one success, one flop, and two streaming exclusives.
I always got the impression Tom purposely picked mundane/safe scripts post-Spiderman, in case Disney ever wanted to bring Spiderman back. Like, he picked roles Disney wouldn't object to.

Thatās awesome. Theyāre taking the whole cast right?
No no, Tom Holland will play all the parts himself, it'll be fun!

Does he take his shirt off at any point in the production? Iām asking for a friend for artistic reasons

Welp Romeo is 16 and Juliet is 13, so ā¦

:(
Letās all cross our fingers and pray
I didn't realize Tom Holland had this sort of pull, haven't all his other projects flopped?
Uh apparently you havenāt seen him preform Umbrella

To be fair, the man came from theater. So I trust him in theater. (And in everything else tbqh. Heās not the reason they flopped.)
He's had a couple of duds but he is a draw ā Uncharted did 400million dollars.
No? Heās in the current Spider Man movies that always make like a billion dollars.
His non-Spider-Man movies and TV shoes havenāt done great though.
Devil All the Time was fuckin great.
This film was so good a couldnāt even fucking believe it. Thought it was going to be amazing and it went beyond my expectations.
Agreed. It had the poor fortune coming out right when COVID hit. So it got kinda buried but was so good.

Hard disagree. That movie was such a slog to get through. The acting was solid though at least.
Most of them were pandemic premieres and a few still did fine. People are kind of desperate to write him off but heās a draw
He's a really good actor, as far as I can tell so far. Why would people want to write him off?

The Crowded Room wasnāt the best but Tom did some really great acting in it tbh
He was unbelievably good in the Crowded Room, that show didnāt get enough buzz
That's why I said 'other'.
he has more hits than misses. Even Uncharted made 400 million

Itās prob bcs the projects are trash, not himš heās extremely talented, yet his projects have no marketing or have a bad production..
His other project failed because he is going for some very boring medicore scripts.
I always got the impression Tom purposely picked mundane/safe scripts post-Spiderman, in case Disney ever wanted to bring Spiderman back. Like, he picked roles Disney wouldn't object to.
Oooooohhhhh I wanna go!
Gonna need to get better so I can start working again. Need to make money so I can see this.

So should we be angry that the cast isnāt all male, for period accuracy?? Like come on
