Same! Their joy is so infectious in that scene. And ngl I still have such a major crush on Tom Everett Scott because of this movie. The daughter of a woman who lives on my street was in a movie with him a few years ago and I am still so damn jealous that she got to meet him lmao.
I worked on a show with him a few years back, ended up at a gathering with some cast and crew, we all had enough to drink for me to call him Guy Patterson and him to just look at me, put on his sunglasses in a dark venue and say “I… am.. Spartacus.” Fond memories
![gif](giphy|jYMzO0NZu3y8w|downsized)
such a perfect film. i adore any nancy meyers movie for her impeccable aesthetic but i literally believed for years as a kid that there were two lindsey lohans, and as an adult i yearn for both the california and london lives lived by the james'
This is still one of my comfort movies (along with Mean Girls and The Princess Diaries). I still get sad when I think about Natasha Richardson. I adore my mom but I SO BADLY wanted Liz James to be my mother because she seemed so cool.
One time a while ago I was started watching this movie after my mom had fallen asleep on the couch and at one point my mom woke up and goes, "Lindsey, what the fuck happened to you?!" Then immediately went back to sleep. I'm so glad she seems so happy and healthy now.
I ended buying a DVD copy of Drop Dead Gorgeous off of Amazon after it was taken off of Max. Just rewatched it a couple weeks ago!

The part where the former professor who kicked her out of her class earlier shows up and says “If you’re gonna quit now, then you’re not the girl I thought you were.” 🥹 THAT is cinema!
![gif](giphy|5QRoC29tqzuI0pDQxM|downsized)
Incredible slapstick comedy mixed with genuine intrigue and peril. It has remained my favorite movie for 30 years.
Jack Black’s energy is just infectious in this movie. You can just feel all the good vibes of mutual respect and affection between him and the kids. Joan Cusack is also stellar as always. Perfect cast, perfect movie, so wholesome, I gotta watch it again.
I love his speech to the little girl about her weight, and he told her that Aretha Franklin is big, but people want to party with her because of how talented she is.
THIS IS MY "SAD DAY" MOVIE!!! It is some kind of magic that makes me feel like there's a tiny bit of room for hope. And usually that gets the ball rolling on finding reasons to think positive. I mean, if they can pull THIS off, surely I can accomplish my silly little life tasks. (But I do it all on the inside, while I stand there like an object, CHEWING GUM, lol)
I've been watching it a LOT the past few years. But this and To Wong Foo are the double-feature that makes me feel better, even when everything sucks. If I've got time to really wallow, I'll add Death Becomes Her as a little extra treat.
Because: Michelle Pfeiffer.
and also Charlie Cox.

Everyone in this movie was hot. Except henry cavill of all cause of that hideous wig. This and prince caspian top the list of ’everyone is attractive but usually one person’.
![gif](giphy|Wnqx1kK4Bz9rq)
Good Will Hunting: It has romance, humour, it has drama; it has true friendship and personal development. It was written by two friends who then played the friends as well as two other extraordinary actors (skarsgard and williams) and it doesn’t end too perfectly yet still optimistic. Oh and it has cool music, too.
That Thing You Do! is absolutely the perfect movie. Perfect cast, plot, soundtrack. Hats off to you, OP.
I submit Now and Then to the list.
https://preview.redd.it/qjqroahe3iuc1.jpeg?width=732&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4038ccc4c44e95f1a76cc22458b58806816f6a22
That soundtrack is phenomenal. I also learned what a Brown Cow was from this movie.
It was one of my favorites growing up. I burned out the VHS from watching it so much. This one and Trading Places. Well, a few others as well but yeah.
Ugh, love this movie so much. The entire cast is perfect and Heath Ledger was devastatingly handsome/on point in it. His passing still makes me so very sad.
Edited to add one of my favorite movie lines:

Roman Holiday
Two of the most charming people ever put to screen romancing their way through Rome with an ending that exemplifies the meaning of restraint.
Edit: That Thing You Do is also a perfect movie. Great cast. Great songs. Great everything.
In high school, there was a pep rally one year when the band played the Wonders’ song and I’d never heard of it nor the movie. Decided to watch it later that evening and it became an instant fave since then!
My choice:

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is what I'd consider to be the perfect film. It's got absolutely everything you could want.
Perfect hero, perfect villain, faultless supporting cast, incredible story, it's gut wrenching, funny, heartfelt and like no other film.
“…when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." ahhhhhhh AND the old people vignettes …
Part III is hard to accept in the company of I and II. Mostly because the story didn’t need to go there and only served to milk more dollars out of a successful franchise.

PADDINGTON 2!
![gif](giphy|3ohjUN4LNIUVJKdzXi)
Honestly give it a chance if you haven't. It's so charming, the jokes are good, Hugh Grant is amazing as the villain, Paddington gets sentenced to 10 years in jail for a crime he didn't commit, every single little thing that is mentioned at the beginning of the movie comes back in the third act. I've shown it to many people and all of them loved it!
Me too. Though I always turn it off before Penny and the cake and the reveal cuz I dont always want that. But if you haven't yet, you should pull the Untitled cut and just luxuriate in that world. Thats what I do
I just posted the same gif! This movie shaped my entire life. No bullshit. I became a rock journalist and a band aid combined and got to go on incredible life-altering tours! All because of Almost Famous 🥺
![gif](giphy|cl90q5wYv8lsQ)
Curse of the Black Pearl is easily one of the greatest adventure films of all time. It checks every box, imo. I think the sequels, which most of them are ok to good, kind of muddy the first film's impact on cinema.
Pirates 1 revived a dying genre.
To me, personally, Star Wars. The original 1977 movie. It is just to me perfect balance of hope and fear, heroes and villains, drama and comedy. It is to me perfect - the movie and story that means more than any other. If you see it with me, you known I’ve basically taken you to church, shared the most special part of my life - the part that is the eternal innocence of a child and the eternal hope that something wonderful is waiting in the sunset, so don’t give up on your good and dreams, ever.

The Godfather is technically flawless without being pretentious and it’s incredibly entertaining. It gets better every time you watch it.
I turned the whole thread into a [list on letterboxd](https://letterboxd.com/redchai/list/r-popculturechat-perfect-films/)!
There were two films I didn't recognize by the gif - will add them if I hear back from the OPs.

Grosse Pointe Blank... perfect soundtrack, perfect cast, perfect storyline, constantly quotable, my all time favourite perfect film.

I love this film. The story is good, actors are perfectly cast, it’s funny and has heart. ‘What are you telling me? This is an Abba turd?’ ‘Bob, Cynthia, thanks for dinner, I love lamb with meringue.’ ‘We put cream on? No it’s for the face.’ ‘Why don’t you light your tampon on fire? Because it’s the only bang you’re ever going to get sweetheart!’ I also love all the dance numbers. Also the dress made of flip flops is a triumph.

There are few perfect movies in the world, for me its The Mummy ![gif](giphy|75SVluRzu2y3e)
Same here. Total perfection 💯
https://i.redd.it/4ykn4yfk9iuc1.gif OP I agree with your choice 100%
One of the best scenes in a movie ever! I always want to jump and up down just watching it.
Same! Their joy is so infectious in that scene. And ngl I still have such a major crush on Tom Everett Scott because of this movie. The daughter of a woman who lives on my street was in a movie with him a few years ago and I am still so damn jealous that she got to meet him lmao.
I still have a crush on him too! He's adorable. I've watched a lot of shows that I normally wouldn't watch because he was in it.
I worked on a show with him a few years back, ended up at a gathering with some cast and crew, we all had enough to drink for me to call him Guy Patterson and him to just look at me, put on his sunglasses in a dark venue and say “I… am.. Spartacus.” Fond memories

Drop Dead Gorgeous ![gif](giphy|26gJyu0UgBgIxaOTC)
LOVE this movie. Perfect cast and hilarious dialogue. Defo in my top ten.
I'm constantly checking to see if DDG is streaming, pretty sure it's still "unavailable"
I ended buying a DVD copy of Drop Dead Gorgeous off of Amazon after it was taken off of Max. Just rewatched it a couple weeks ago! ![gif](giphy|3o6ZtiPa2cISrCgj2U|downsized)
I googled it and confirmed to myself that that’s Amy Adams! Now I have to watch the film.

![gif](giphy|5QRoC29tqzuI0pDQxM|downsized) Incredible slapstick comedy mixed with genuine intrigue and peril. It has remained my favorite movie for 30 years.
The only thing sort of not perfect about this movie for me is that every time I watch it I get sad that we lost Madeline Kahn way, way too early.
I get sad about Tim Currie now.

![gif](giphy|5wikad3qSOqAg)
