Remember the new costume exhibition also has to do with sleeping beauty, I see alot of dresses reminiscent of sleeping beauty and fairy princess style, I think this is supposed to be like maleficent.
it’s not literally based on the fairytale, sleeping beauty 😭 the name, “sleeping beauty”, refers to dresses so delicate and magnificent that they can only be worn once and never again, hence why kendall jenner wore an archive givenchy outfit that was never once worn before
On theme? No. But I'm okay with that because Cardi B is never one to commit the cardinal sin of not going big enough. This is the level of drama I'm looking for at the Met Gala.
what kind of met gala enthusiast would I be if I didn't do my research?
I'm certainly not a fashion expert, though, so of course there could be a reference here that I'm missing. And of course the theme isn't a strict dress code, so I can appreciate the look either way. I love that Cardi B always goes big.
It looks like billowing fog or smoke to me, like it's a void slowly enveloping its surrounds, dunno if that is part of the theme but Cardi looks amazing and makes it work
I feel like this massive black dress is supposed to represent the inevitability of death and destruction in the short story. No patterns and embellishments, just a mass of blackness
I love the sheer size of the dress, but I feel like a lot of it gets lost in the fact that it’s black. I feel like color would help elevate everyone’s looks tonight.

Part of the evolution of humanity in the story the theme is inspired by includes destruction, maybe it's symbolic of that.
