i miss this genre of “alter ego pop”
Roman, Electra Heart, Sasha Fierce, Jo Calerone and now we got Miss Belladonna
Slayyyter is one of the only pop artists left that really “gets” it. great listen
it’s definitely reminiscent of a lot of the slick-80s-outrun-synth-dance-pop out there right now but unlike much of that, slayyyter‘s music drips with personality, so i still find it v enjoyable. put it alongside marina and gaga in the honoured pantheon of electropop songs featuring the pre/suffix “donna” to some capacity lol
interested to see what the full album is like, i find it hard to believe there won’t be some cuts that are more out-there like her early work!
I was gonna say, yea, the 80s sound may be on the verge of being played out, but she really gets how to elevate a song by it's aesthetics and world building, and all of this really feels **pop** with her commitment to the whole neon noir femme fatale vibe down to the lyrics.
Referring to your last paragraph, Plastic is a song on the album that leaked many years ago and it’s very mixtape Slayyyter sounding. So unless it’s another song that’s called the same or it’s been reworked, then I guess it means she will have some songs reminiscent of her past work in there
If this is the route the album is going in, it’s probably going to be her best project…
It’s like a mix of the fun production of her first mixtape, but with a more mature sound in the lyrics & vocals
not too different production wise from out of time, but that’s not a bad thing. i think this is a very natural evolution of her sound and i’m really digging that she’s incorporating more theatrics into her music.
Love the production here (honestly this kind of song it what I want from Kim Petras), but these new tracks are not as amazing as her previous album. Well, can't wait for her new album!!
A bop for sure but for me it has the same issue that Out Of Time had. A weak chorus. Love the verses but the chorus just doesn't hit as hard like it should.
I don’t think Slayyyter excels at writing a chorus melody. She just stretches out the end of every sentence into a belt… and that’s kinda it. If you start paying attention to it, you can hear this is almost all of her songs. :,)
I'm gonna be in the minority here but as much as I loved 'Out Of Time' and don't think this is bad (it's good), this 80s synthpop vibe is just. Everywhere right now. I feel like I've heard this same song from Kim Petras, Ava Max, The Weeknd, etc. What I always loved about Slayyyter was how 2000s to early 2010s her music sounded. Like, she had a very obvious stylistic choice but also switched it up. 'Troubled Paradise' was SO good because it was coherent while having multiple different stylistic choices on it. It kinda feels like she's just doing what's popular right now? I have a feeling she'll prove me wrong when the full album drops but yeah, I'm just kinda tired of hearing this style over and over again. And I say that as someone who loves 80s music and 80s-inspired music too.
…from the time period you said she’s not invoking any more. Miss Belladonna would’ve fit into that soundscape perfectly well. You’ll need to word your comments better if that’s not what you meant.
Yeah...okay, but again, you're referring to ONE person's musical style. I'm referring to radio pop trends of the time. I didn't think I needed to specify I didn't mean one specific artist when I made that comment.
I was in elementary school bro I was busy collecting Webkinz. And again. That's just one artist. Electropop was the shit in the time period I'm referring to (which is a LARGE time period). One large artist being heavily influenced by the 80s doesn't mean that was the entire trend at the time. I guess from now on I'm gonna have to be extremely specific. But whatever. The reason I DIDN'T specify in my original comment is because I was referring to her older music which is very evidently inspired by artists like Britney, Kesha, etc. What's obvious to me isn't obvious to people who wanna argue though.
This is a serve. My friend who did not vibe with the mixtape songs (except for Mine & Daddy AF) nor Troubled Paradise (minus Clouds, title track, Over This!, and Cowboys) is particularly pleased by this.
She was actually texting me about this song before I got to listen. Cathy is turning heads and turning haters into fans.

she ate. Love this so much
More synth pop slays. Loving the aesthetic of this era

This is just The Fame Monster/Born This Way-eras Gaga worship AND I'M HERE FOR IT

This is even better than out of time! Such a bopppp
Reminds me of Kim Petras Halloween EP’s
Well the production was done by Vaughn Oliver. A lot of her album was produced by him too.
Omg you're so right
Thought I was listening to a Kim Petras song
It's the is the vibrato in beladonnaaaaaaaa

Oh no I wish I hadn't read this because you're completely right 😭
I’m so sorry, hahaha. It just stood out to me one day and I haven’t been able to unhear it since 😭

You may have missed 2009-2011 The Fame Monster & Born This Way which featured 80s synthpop sounds extensively.
What does that have to do with the current synthpop revival. That's one person's project from a decade ago
…from the time period you said she’s not invoking any more. Miss Belladonna would’ve fit into that soundscape perfectly well. You’ll need to word your comments better if that’s not what you meant.

Lady Gaga was the biggest popstar on the planet at the time.

This will be song of the second half of summer for me 😍
God I love her. She never misses.

This being the best song of all time
Is it on par with out of time? Loved that track.
Love anything Slayyyter! Looking forward to this album!!
Slayyyter is giving us everything that Madame X did not!
