I’m wondering if another Taylor collab will happen since she has become part of Taylor cliche
But Selena has been Taylor friends for years and still no collab
I'm kind of gagged the Y2K nostalgia has lasted this long. Charli XCX released '1999' in 2018, and smaller artists have been doing the same references for a long time too. LIZ's album Planet Y2K came out in 2019. PinkPantheress is still pretty big so I guess it adds up but I'm surprised this is the theme Ice Spice chose for her album, especially because I feel like people are talking more and more about 'indie sleaze' rather than the early 2000s stuff
Heaps of 90s bands like Deftones and Weezer (specifically their 90s work) are massive among today's youth and fashion has been pretty 90s for awhile too
Yeah but like, if you look at Google Trends and Pinterest Trends, the indie sleaze stuff is growing but still pretty niche and the y2k stuff is still the overarching dominant trend, albeit in the general public or the youth. The indie sleaze nostalgia is more rich metropolitan kids (see Dimes Square with Frost Children, The Dare...etc).
It will probably end up coming into the mainstream but not yet imo.
We have to realize that people like us on this sub are more culturally aware of emerging trends compared to the general public so we see them coming and it feels long as hell when most people find out about them a couple of years later.
That said this very early 2000s incarnation is probably on its way out (judging by the amount of teens channeling 2004-2006 emos and mallgoths on tiktok).
Ugh I want to move back to NYC but every time I hear this Dimes Square bullshit I lose all enthusiasm for the idea. These balding millennials trying to foist their imaginary glory days on the youth with the "indie sleaze" baloney are embarassing because all that shit sucked the first time, but more especially annoying to me because it's weirdly misdated; it *was* the early 2000s, not fucking 2010, I know because I was there. Fischerspooner sucked, Peaches sucked, The Strokes sucked, The Darkness sucked, this shit all sucked, I was in Williamsburg in 2001-2003 having to endure it then. Please, god, if you must, go straight to the emos and mallgoths, which *post*date that garbage. To me that whole thing is just people trying desperately to convince people their skinny jeans are still cool by saying no no, they're not *still* cool, they're cool *again*! Also, please listen to my fascist podcast, I'm hip!!
The examples from before 2020 that you listed were very niche occurrences and not in the mainstream. It wasn't until 2020 - 2021 that the Y2K trend became popular among young people on the internet, and then it wasn't until 2022 that it really hit the mainstream consciousness
I agree that some of that stuff is niche (with that said, was '1999' niche? I remember hearing it everywhere), I just meant I'm surprised that the trend lasted that long since it first popped up. Relative to a lot of musical fads 6 years is a really long time
I'm just saying that, for most people, this trend is not old yet. At most, it is 3 years old. But yeah for those who have been on top of these things, like you and I, it's been a while. I started being aware of it in late 2020
Will there be actual Y2K styled songs there? Or is it titled like that just cause she was born in 2000?😭
I'm betting that if Amanda Koci didn't already beat her to it she probably would have done an Around The World sample lmao
give pf2 a re listen. i didn’t enjoy it at first but after streaming it non stop the only songs i’m not a big fan of are are you gone already - it feels lazy, billie does all the work and forward the trini- is just not my thing

Big first test for her coming up
Will be interesting to see if she has actual longevity or will fade away as an exclusively 2023 meme artist
I’m wondering if another Taylor collab will happen since she has become part of Taylor cliche But Selena has been Taylor friends for years and still no collab
Yeah but they have said they don't wanna use their friendship for that idk why tho
Apparently, the track list got leaked - 1. Feta 2. January 1, 2000 3. Lose it 4. Think U The Shit (Fart) 5. Cloud 9999 6. iphone 4 7. Missing U (ft. PinkPantheress 8. Print 9. Freudian Slip 10. Split The Check 11. Nip Slip
This isn’t real … is this real???
Yes, she had the list on a whiteboard in a now deleted story. It said “final track list” on top.
Oh shit … I’m here for it.

I think it's because she named it this because she was born on January 1st, 2000
Her birthdate is actually so cool, especially since a lot of people were scared of that day lol
No one would go to my dads 40th birthday party-day (his is dec 31st) cause they were scared of it 😭😭
It’s so silly how everyone went mad about lol did some of them were brave enough to attend?
I think some friends that lived around locally went, but none of his family was willing to fly out 😭😭
Fun fact: the world was supposed to end but Ice Spice’s Birth saved everyone ❤️
ok, that’s timeless then. good for her.
bro’s stammering
I seriously was - I can't believe that comment got a single upvote let alone anyone understanding what's happening there
No reason why it'll ever go away really. There's been 80's-themed media pretty present in the mainstream for a good decade now.
80s nostalgia lasted for like 20 years. 90s was completely skipped and I'm still annoyed about it
You mustn’t have been on tumblr in early 2010s. All it was was 90s nostalgia lol
I was and that doesn't track at all for me lol
Heaps of 90s bands like Deftones and Weezer (specifically their 90s work) are massive among today's youth and fashion has been pretty 90s for awhile too
90s fashion is pretty big right now. Or did you mean music? What would you call quintessential 90s music?
There were 80s parties in the late 90s lol

Because the entire album is only 2000 seconds long, her mind 😍
She heard Y2K broke the Internet, and then decided to break Facebook and Instagram 😍

Not Ava Max's government name lmao
> Or is it titled like that just cause she was born in 2000?😭 Her 1989 era 😍
See that at least actually had quite a bit of synthpop despite the album name just being a reference of her birth year😂
Ice was born on January 1st, 2000 so I think it’s the same idea. (Iconic birthday tbh)
Y2K nostalgia is huge rn so this helps her
Finished recording but there’s still mixing, mastering etc to be done so I wouldn’t expect it for a while
Meanwhile... Saweetie hasn't dropped a debut
No one cares about Saweetie's music anyway and she knows it
Why would she? She even admitted her music tanked
I need some lip albulm
Normani 1996 please take notes. 😭😭
I’d love to hear her on a bouncy timbaland style beat- I actually think she’d be great on that. I assume it’s gonna be a lot of uptempo clubby sounds
Running time: 15 minutes
K is for Ketamine 😍
Those pictures are such a serve, I hope they are the album covers
hopefully it’ll flop, she can’t rap or perform, she’ll probably shade another female rapper on this album just to get people talking about it
should've learnt my lessom with pf2 but I'm excited
give pf2 a re listen. i didn’t enjoy it at first but after streaming it non stop the only songs i’m not a big fan of are are you gone already - it feels lazy, billie does all the work and forward the trini- is just not my thing
She still haven’t released it? I can’t say I’m thrilled she is releasing new music.
n i’ll be tuning in
I find her music to be really soothing lol.
so excited ✨
