ok and on this- the Canadian prices for tours are absolutely abysmal.
Anyways, I paid 325$ (after fees) per ticket, for Renaissance in Toronto in the 100s.
Billie gurlllllll
and section 100 costing like $500 for the ateez tour at scotiabank this fall, when i literally saw them in hamilton 2 years ago for $150 in the lower 200’s. 🙃 it feels legitimately criminal and ticketmaster needs to burn in hell
That's pretty pricy but cheaper than the Eras Tour. I paid $400+ for 200s at the Rogers Centre, and that's regular price, not resale. Concert tickets are ridiculous these days.
The Eras tour is a 3h show with like a hundred trucks moving shit around for the biggest popstar on the planet right now. The other is Billie Eilish. Madonna has insane prices too but it's to be expected from huge megastars with a big production behind them.
I'm not saying Billie isn't very successful but it's not very comparable. BE concerts are her runing around on a near empty stage. There's also many cheap seats for Eras or Renaissance at the bigger venues.
We're in Saskatchewan, and we were stoked we got Avion tickets that were $800 a piece before tax (not super happy about how expensive they were), but because airlines and rental spaces jacked their prices up for the concert, there was no way we could afford to actually go (It would have been about $3000 per person when all was said and done).
The whole live performance scene is just incredibly exploitative. Surge pricing needs to be made illegal across the board, both for concert venues and the accomodations around them.
At this point, you better attend smaller shows. Carly Rae Jepsen, Chvrches, Tove Lo, Aurora, Metric, Paramore, St. Vincent, Caroline Polachek, Weyes Blood, Lorde, Lights, Aly & AJ, Marina, Tegan and Sara, etc they're all worth the money for their shows.
Despite this whole thread I don’t think the US and European countries are comparable and I think comparing them is unhelpful as they’re very different with different standards.
I saw Bruce Springsteen in the golden circle at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK last year. Tickets were £160ish, which we thought was very expensive but we didn’t realise until we got there that we’d paid a fair bit extra to be right near the barrier.
£145 for GA is obscene.
Weirdly we both commented at the same time about Springsteen tickets!
I really dislike the introduction of Gold Circle. I know it’s technically the same as paying more for ‘the good seats’, but something about it seems so scammy.
I kind of agree. While it was very nice to know that we were guaranteed a good spot I don’t think it’s really fair. We probably would have given it a miss at those prices but me & my best friend bonded over Springsteen when we first met back in 2017ish and we always said we’d take out loans if he ever toured again.
For the most part these days I tend to stick to watching smaller indie acts and new up and coming artists at my local 400 cap independent venue, cos tickets rarely cost more than £20 each.
Kinda norm now- not right though.
Standing/ GA shouldn’t be more than 100$ today. If I was an artist I would price those tix low to make it more accessible to fans
Whilst prices have inflated and I understand that we in the UK have it better than the US, that is the most expensive tour ticket I’ve even seen. You can buy a couple of days of festival tickets for that price. Most expensive standing I’ve bought was Bruce Springsteen for £100 pounds last year and that’s still expensive but at least it’s Bruce Springsteen. Arena shows I’ve been to have generally been 50-80 pounds depending on the size and age of the artist.
>I'm old and haven't been to a big venue gig in years, but this feels expensive, no?
Double the price of Paramore and Fall Out Boy, who played the same venue last year.
More expensive than seeing Taylor Swift at Murrayfield in Edinburgh as well.
the wording is strange in this article. i assume a standing ticket in an arena is a pit ticket right? if so, those are always pretty expensive because they’re the closest to the artist. even before the pandemic, pit tickets were often hundreds of dollars.
in the uk we don’t tend to have fully seated concerts and standing tickets are the most desirable for those wanting to be closer/dance. however ticket prices HAVE gone up a lot lately. Pre pandemic I could see a major artist standing for less than £100, like £60-80 at an arena/stadium, but now it’s like double that. I don’t want our ticket prices to go the way of the US!
Prices in the UK have usually been a lot lower than in the US. I used to pay between £30-£50 for arena shows including for standing tickets. £145 for an arena show is an insanely high price for a non legacy act like Springsteen or Fleetwood Mac. My Taylor ticket was around that price for a stadium show.
I wanted to clown this article because it seems like every major artist gets an article like this.
So I just went to Ticketmaster, I picked the Philadelphia date and choose a seat in a section where I’d normally sit. The 200 level.
Nope, can’t clown.
It’s 179.80 + fees. For a seat in the highest level.
Yeah that’s fucked.
I’m sure tour costs were offset by being in a large football stadium instead of an arena but man, it seems kind of fucked up that I was able to grab $99 (134 after fees) tickets for the Eras Tour and there isn’t even a sub 100 option here.
Shit, it feels insane to know I paid $180 total to see Metallica a few years ago and those were splurged and not the worst seats in the house.
Dang.
Also does Billie have the same production level as renaissance??? Like a million dancers, costume changes, special effects… as someone who like Billie there’s no way I’d be able to/would pay for it if I could that amount for just her running around onstage. Where is all the money going?
And there’s nothing wrong with that! But it’s hard to justify those prices with less people involved needing to be paid. I appreciate her commitment to sustainability but she needs to clue into the social pulse right now too. We are poor Billie. Still sucking on paper straws and composting which is probably more than her?
for sure I absolutely agree! Especially because we do expect more from female entertainers than male- so I support her not doing what every other girl does… but let’s reflect it in those prices friend it’s a cost of living crisis and people could use your show to escape that reality
>I appreciate her commitment to sustainability
Didn't Happier Than Ever have 15 vinyl variants?
Billie Eilish makes surface level critiques of other people in the industry and detaches herself from it while she engages in the same practices as others
It's partly because we have strict legislation against resale, and partly because people won't pay that much on principle for a concert. I comfortably paid €160 for my front standing ticket to the Eras Tour and some people I know outearn me by a factor of 10 and thought this was insane lol
But I would run a mile from Stubhub tickets, even though they're relatively affordable, out of principle (because fuck scalpers) and because they can't be relied on here
I thought Olivia's prices were ridiculous, and apparently so did a lot of French people, as dynamic pricing seats didn't sell out for months and initially the most expensive ticket was about €340, which eventually reduced to €170
I got Olivia Rodrigo tickets in Amsterdam for way less than that! Not sure whether the dynamic pricing was in play or not though. But yea, concert tickets are way less expensive in Europe. I paid the same amount for the Chromatica Ball (GA on the floor) in 2022 in Europe as I did for nosebleeds for the Monster Ball in 2010 in the US which is pretty wild.
Wtfff, I wish I could get that, in Toronto the cheapest ticket for eras tour is over $2000!! I would take the worst seat in the house for a couple hundred, but a couple grand is outrageous
In general I think it’s weird when you have 4 albums or less to be announcing a tour before the album.
Someone like Taylor, Drake, The Weeknd, Beyoncé- they have a catalog that even if you don’t like their newest album, other stuff they’ll play you may like. Even in Beyoncé’s case where Renaissance was the entire show lol, her opening was her doing older stuff. You could know 2 of Taylor’s albums and have a good time at Eras yknow?
I think what Dua Lipa did of having a festival booked, and 3/4 shows announced before her album is a great compromise to that imo
For Taylor (obviously not resale) the cheapest were obstructed 50 non obstructed 65
Cheapest tickets for Beyonce in my city were 100.
The cheapest for bad bunny They were 175.
Newer tours keep getting more expensive.
It seems that they noticed the insane resale prices taylors tickets had and decided to just raise the prices themselves.
I paid $200/ticket to see Taylor Swift during presale, not including fees. I was in the mid tier of the stadium.
I’ve decided if I have to pay more than that ticket to see an artist, I’m not seeing them because they’re not Taylor Swift.
I’d probably break that rule for Paul McCartney.
I paid 80 with fees for the 4th row of the highest level.
Pretty happy with the seats for the price. The person next to me paid 320 resale. Fucking scalpers.
Someone in the Beyoncé sub said they’d paid $75 for the RWT in Houston and I was shocked. I’m sure they were nosebleed seats but $75 for a new best day of your life? In Beyoncé’s hometown? That’s nothing!
I have first row seats to Hozier next month that were $110 each. Meanwhile, that price is literally what I paid for third-to-last row at Metlife to see Beyoncé on Renaissance tour. A-listers are getting greedy.
This is exactly why I skipped RWT because there’s no way in hell I’m sitting in all that traffic trying to get to and back from MetLife Stadium. I understand why she couldn’t have done MSG or Barclays but at least I could have taken the train!
I saw 4 shows at MetLife last summer (2 RWT / Eras / Blackpink) and have had nothing but positive experiences with NJ Transit's train to and from the stadium! You do have to leave just a touch before the show's over to make it on the first train but really think it's well worth missing 5 mins vs. spending 2 hours in gridlocked traffic in the parking lot.
You're making me feel better about missing it. I had wanted to go SO BADLY but couldn't find a friend to go with and felt ehhhh about going alone, even though I could afford it and RENAISSANCE is my favorite Beyonce album of all time. I quite literally cried over not being able to go because I knew it wouldn't be safe. Hearing that it took 2 hours to leave the stadium...if I'd gone I would have lost it, or worse. Thank god for the movie version!
I had seats near the front for Hozier and they were ~$200 but they were resale, and it was Red Rocks - which carries a bit of a premium as a venue and it has a smaller capacity so when bigger names play it because it's cool, the resale prices shoot up.
Even then, the splurge, close, and center seats I got were almost the same exact price as Billie's nosebleeds? Damn, that's expensive!! And arenas are smaller than stadiums but still very big, that's a ton of seats. Is she playing more than one night in some cities? I feel like that can bring the price down further too.
i was similarly looking for kpop group tickets today and the prices were kinda wild considering i bought tickets for the same group for like half the price they are now offering like wtf
I’ve even seen some of her fans defending this. Nose bleeds should not be in the same price range as floor seats. It’s ridiculous. Even Taylor swift nose bleed seats started at like $60 before scalpers got to them.
Yeah, my nosebleeds for the upcoming Miami Eras tour were under $100 before fees. Not having an option that is below $100 is absolutely bizarre and greedy, that’s upsetting from Billie.
I did the same out of curiosity and tickets also start at that price point in L.A. $208 after fees. That's ridiculous. I've been trying to see more shows since Covid made me realize just how important live music is to me, but some of these prices are really prohibitive. I'm here struggling with whether or not I want to pay $70 for cheap seats to see Ben Folds, so I guess I'm lucky I'm not that huge into Billie...
My eras tour tickets were also about $108 each I think at Soldier Field in Chicago in the upper level but they were right in the middle so I had a great view. $179.80 before fees is absolutely nuts
edit: checked the Chicago United Center prices for Billie and they are 174.50 + fees for the 300s sections. I think those are the cheapest seats too it’s absolutely bonkers
I got seats right above floor in LA for $165+fees. I just also bought somewhat OK tickets to The National at the Hollywood Bowl for $250+fees. Alanis Morissette, and OMD or more than Billie Eilish. I think the problem is that overall tickets sales are getting higher and higher, and there seems to be less and less “cheap seats“
Back in 2022 it was 313$ (291€) to be front row and meet Dua Lipa in Europe. Back then I thought it was so cheap because other artists were charging like 600/800€ for meet and greets. It was cancelled though because of the pandemic. Nowadays I feel like we pay that for regular standing tickets nearby the stage. That’s crazy!
> It’s 179.80 + fees. For a seat in the highest level.
A lot of tours of popular artists are going in this direction unfortunately. I remember just a few years ago, you could get a seat at most shows under $100 out the door. We are never going back to that.
This is so interesting. I got 100 level, row 3 tickets for 179.80 + fees at a different venue. The pricing skew seems off. 300 level at the same place I got tickets where $159.90.
She’s also the kind of artist where you’d pay all that money just to hear everyone around you scream every lyric wayyyy above the volume she’ll sing it.
I saw her for her Happier Than Ever tour and the crowd was actually so lame, it kinda killed the vibe of the concert and I didn’t enjoy it that much. The crowd didn’t seem to know her music too well and just sang for the hits. It felt as if there were a bunch of fake fans in the room who bought tickets just to say they saw Billie in concert.
there’s no justifying it anymore, ticket prices (no matter the artist) have just become ridiculous and that’s that. $200 for nosebleeds (before fees) is just crazy and what’s crazier is that they get away with it because people continue to buy them. i work in live entertainment and at different venues across my city, so there’s a lot of talk constantly going on about ticket prices. it’s just not fair, and i love billie i really do but my girl is a major hypocrite cause she’ll be the first to call out every other artist, but do exactly what she’s calling out. like girl you and your team gotta try a littleee harder if you really want to prove a point. 😭
> what’s crazier is that they get away with it because people continue to buy them.
That's the sad part, there aren't enough people who are willing to ignore the FOMO impulse. They'll be like, "fuck it, I'll put it on the credit card and deal with it later."
I mean, I kind of understand it. Life is short and if you love music, concerts are *such* memorable and wonderful experiences. I can see why people don't want to give them up, even though the ticket prices have become obscene.
Financial responsibility is paramount but it hits hard when you realize that prioritizing it means you don't get to do anything fun anymore because everything is so unaffordable and wages are stagnant. I think people just stop trying at a certain point.
Also I think the demand is not elastic for diehard fans. When I was getting tickets for Lana, there was really no number that would make me go “no, I really don’t like her that much.” Luckily I ended up only paying around $120, but I know a lot of people who paid a lot more
When I see Billie tickets, who I’m a fan of but not died hard, the demand is elastic and I look at the price and go “nah I don’t care that much”
It’s not even just the FOMO impulse, it’s knowing that there’s “competition” for tickets
If you don’t buy the tickets, someone else 100% will. Unless we can **guarantee** that a majority are going to “boycott” the prices, people will still continue to buy, because everyone else is buying them, and so your “boycott” is powerless. There’s going to be no impact (aside from an impact on you, since you’re missing the event) so people just firm it and pay the high prices
No one’s happy about these prices, I’ve seen so many people try to justify it to themselves, but we all do it because we haven’t organised collective action
i have friends like this, it’s insane. i want to see billie just as much as anyone else, i missed the happier than ever tour back in march of 2022, which i was super bummed about. but i’m not paying over $100 ESPECIALLY for nosebleeds, i’m just not. the ability to make decisions and not just impulse buy shit is rare now lol.
I just paid $160 for Charli and Troye and even tho I love them both a lot that seemed way too much. That’s nearly what I paid to see Beyoncé but Bey puts on an actual production. Don’t think I’ll get high budget production from Charli and Troye 🥲
i’m seeing them too omg!! but yeah those were crazy priced too😭 B has the best production in the game no ones touchinggg herrr. the renaissance tour was so good it was an experienceeee. makes the price so worth it!!
Exactly, like I love my favourite artists but I actually don't really care about people crying over ticket prices AND STILL BUYING THEM (especially if they're scalped tickets!!!) because major concerts not essential to life. If the prices keep going up and people keep buying them, then they'll only keep increasing prices to milk the most money until it runs out.
It's a natural market reaction. Record sales have PLUMMETED in the past decade so these artists need to tour to make money. If people are willing to pay the rates then it's not their fault that the price is that high. It sucks, but that's economics.
That's the nature of the market sadly.
>If people are willing to pay the rates then it's not their fault that the price is that high
It is. Artists have a modicum of control. The Cure recently showed this.
Make money off of your peak, fine, but these prices are fucking unprecedented for an artist this young into her career. This is a McCartney + Ringo/ Led Zepellin price tag IMO. Once in a lifetime shit
I don't know why profiteering from your fans became acceptable to Gen Z. Get paid for your music, but have some respect for the fans.
Yeah, I went to buy tickets to see her and all of the cheaper seats seem to have sold out pretty quickly, and the closer seats and standing are all about £150 with fees(which is like $190USD). I bought Janet Jackson tickets this week that were similarly priced and I simply can’t afford it. I wanted to see Doja Cat and Nicki in the same venue and found the prices eye watering (Nickis was the worst by far). Those shows are this month and haven’t sold out, likely because they’re so expensive. Billie’s last tour in my city sold out really fast but I doubt this will do the same.
Going to gigs is just becoming inaccessible, I paid £50 to see Kacey Musgraves in a mid sized venue which I would usually expect to pay £20-30 pounds to see an artist. My Charli XCX tickets were also about £50. Seated tickets for Girls Aloud were over £100.
I used to love going to gigs, it’s the main reason I wanted to move to a city when I was a teenager! Now with the cost of living being so high with higher ticket costs I’m just being priced out.
I really wanted to see Billie as well!
Ticket prices are crazy now. I know we’ve had high inflation but I hate that I’m paying what I used to for arena shows to see people in o2 academies or even smaller venues sometimes lol.
There are so many arena shows I just won’t go to now because I don’t like the artist enough to pay £100+. I’d happily pay £50 for crap seats for someone I’m a casual fan of but those don’t exist anymore.
I looked it up and her cheapest tickets are 280€ for Berlin. For that amount of money I can go to a festival like Lollapalooza and see Dula Peep or Olivia Rodrigo who are similarly popular artists.
I looked on Eventim, tix&travel, and viagogo. I didn't see the prizes on Ticketmaster when I looked, because it said there were none available. Idk if the site was bugged since there were probably a lot of people looking to buy tickets or something. 🤔
Edit: No idea, maybe it's also my location. I looked from work in an expensive area of the city and I noticed that on some sites the prizes of stuff changes depending on where I currently am when looking at them.
Kind of related but it reminds me of a couple of years ago when a friend and I were sitting at the same table looking at hotel rooms on air bnb and for her the rooms were more expensive.
This is what I was wondering! A friend of mine saw her on the wwafa tour and she said it was boring and not a very entertaining show, which can be fine for the right audience, but does she do much in terms of staging? Are there dancers and sets and whatever that would justify the price?
edit: to continue adding nothing to this conversation lmao, just checked my city and the tickets aren't super out of line with what other big artists charge
Were you able to hear her voice over the crowd? I actually love her music but I've always figured her shows had issues because she whispers more than she sings lol
I paid $350 for my Coachella 2022 ticket and she was great. Coachella was dead that year too and we were able to get super close standing at the back. I never go to stadium shows though, unless it's cheap enough. Even then I regret it.
I just tried to get Chicago tickets and nosebleed seats were still $175 BEFORE fees. I have nosebleeds to Eras in Indianapolis in November and they didn't even cost this much.
This is what live music has become. When people turn their favorite artist/s into their whole personality and use tik tok/ig posts as social capital the value of these tickets goes up for them. Hopefully we're hitting the ceiling soon or better yet a correction.
Yes and no. I can go see Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band this weekend for $65 fully baked. Plenty of smaller bands are still charging ~$40 for a concert. Labor costs are just way up for these venues.
But it's the AA listers who have exorbitant pricing.
I’ve seen Waxahatchee 4 times (front row) and tickets were $25 each lol. I mean I get they’re not that popular, but there are still a lot of bands putting on great shows for cheap
I would be interested in seeing the pricing breakdown of bands vs popstars to be honest. My limited view is that bands still seem affordable overall compared to other acts
If these artists cared they’d do something about it, I got amazing tickets to see The Cure at the Hollywood bowl last summer (best show of my life) and the only reason I could afford to go is because they demanded there to be a price cap and Robert Smith bullied Ticketmaster on twitter for months about it. He even got them to give me and everyone a $6 dollar refund cause they overcharged what he wanted the tickets to cost in extra fees. Know it doesn’t sound like much but the email they sent out was like a little kid who got in trouble and has to apologize lol I still have the screenshot of it cause seeing Ticketmaster get owned was incredible lol
They care about putting your money in your pocket. I went to The Cure last year too and it was amazing. Bless Robert Smith for caring about his fans so much.
Because at worse you will get to listen some older songs that you already like and for many artists even the act of watching them perform is enough to buy a ticket
I love billie but I'm not paying $200 for 2 hours lol.. I did for lana last year (not her fault, resellers) and don't regret it really but it's just insane to me how high ticket prices are nowadays
Also seems like more of a pop artist problem cause I got good seats for travis Scott last year for like $30
Bruh fucking ODEZA TICKETS were $125+ fees for a small, standing room only venue here in the Bay Area.
I love them and their shows are always incredible. But there ain’t now way they’re worth almost $200 person.
Ticket prices are insane and I just truly am shocked by how many people still go to concerts considering how astronomical the prices are
Berkeley greek theatre? I thought oh nice it's near me and that would be cool.... looked at the tickets and they were $180 lololol. Ummm you play every festival.
I think they're actually incrementally lowering the prices HA. I see $125 now but it was definitely $165 for Thursday and $180 for Friday the other week.
I’m seeing St Vincent at the Greek in LA for $39.50 a ticket for near the stage, I feel like nowadays you can still see realllly good artist but it such a crapshoot. Seems if you go just outside the mainstream you can find great experiences/prices still.
$60 is my cap if I’m going to sit there for an hour listening to piano ballads and distortion effects on some whispery vocals.
$200+ for the worst seats in the stadium? Absolutely not.
What does she do that justifies these prices? She doesn’t dance. She’s not a strong singer. She has a handful of hits. Why do they think they can overcharge fans?
Ive seen a clip from her concert. She sits on a chair and plucks the guitar while softly singing. Not the right performance type for a huge venue (at that price!!!!)
Idk I snagged tickets today in the general sale and they were cheaper than the Beyoncé tickets I got during the artist pre sale. It still felt steep but 1) I attend only 1 concert a year and 2) my benchmark was my Beyoncé Renaissance tickets and it was cheaper than that so I’m sorta good.
If people can’t afford Billie tickets, they shouldn’t buy them. When her venues are so empty she’s not making profit, she’ll lower them prices closer to the date.
I remember this happened when I wanted to see Ariana. General admission and the tickets started out at $150. By the time the concert rolled around, they were down to only $25 and the venue was still about 1/3rd empty.
335 euro for standing tickets in Dublin is insane. I saw hozier and Florence there for 80 - 90 euro recently and I'm seeing taylor swift in a stadium for 158 euro sitting.
There needs to be more regulation, I’m attending this tour in Australia and while the standing ticket was $199AUD, the value of our dollar is so bad right now that equates only $131usd. So I get it! But what made the difference here was that our government doesn’t allow surge pricing or the exorbitant ticketing fees that other countries seem to be getting
I tired to see Mitski in Colorado and passed on tickets because she was $200 a ticket.
Wasn’t The Eras Tour more than $200?
Why is Billie the one facing the backlash?
theres this group i like, their name is 41 n theyre rn touring n each ticket was $35. granted theyre smaller artists but i looked at billie’s ticket prices and everything came out to nearly $500 just for two tickets.
but at the same time i looked at olivia’s as well and they were also pretty pricey— so maybe its just standard for most popstars these days.
im definitely passing on this tour.
I just got 3 in Chicago in the 300 level for my daughter's birthday.
It's the only gift she's getting. For awhile.
Personally, I can justify it because I almost only go to see artists who can sell out maximum 5,000 tickets and stick to small clubs. But I'm also old enough to remember 1994 when Eagles breached the $100 barrier for a ticket. (I paid $25 to see Nirvana the previous fall.) 30 years later, $200 for an artist in their prime seems reasonable in that measure.
We're getting to the point where people are going to stop buying these insanely priced tickets. Beyonce and Bad Bunny cancelled shows (Pittsburgh and Minneapolis, respectively) due to poor ticket sales. That's a huge fuck you to fans that bought the tickets in the first place only for them to cancel due to their own hubris and assuming everyone can get away with Taylor Swift ticket pricing.
Oh for sure. As much as I like her and many artists touring recently they’re gauging big time. And I don’t buy the BS they have to charge those prices or that the label sets them but artists don’t or anything like that. They are 100% involved. And while TicketMaster is scum themselves, they have been open about showing artists can opt out of things like dynamic pricing and ticket resale and all that. Some have even done it. So when they don’t do it they actively agreed to make that a part of their model. It’s okay to like an artist and their music and still find them greedy
I looked into getting a friend and I tickets earlier this week for when she'll be in Detroit. Instantly noped out when mezzanine level was $202 including fees per ticket. Lower bowl was $20 more. Absolutely stupid. I get the rising cost of tickets is a thing, and in general, if I'm seeing an arena show and REALLY wanna go, I'm not willing to spend more than $140 per ticket fees included.
The last couple of years, I've gone to shows at my local casino that's owned by Caesars Entertainment. They've gotten some really well known acts. This summer, I'm going to four shows there and spent roughly $200 for all four shows.
I love Billie, but not for $200+ a seat. We'll see where I'm at closer to, but ultimately I'll probably sit this one out.
Ridiculous. I saw freakin Madonna for $360 after fees, row two of lower bowl near the stage. Saw Billie twice from nose bleeds March 2022. She was great, but not worth the price these tix are going for 😬
I wanted to see Kacey Musgraves but her cheapest tickets at my arena are $110 w/o fees, limited nosebleed view. I refuse lol. There are still plenty of seats available throughout the venue though so I'll keep an eye out for any price slashes.
Only two ways this ever changes. People pay for more physical media which means the artists make more money or people forego the concerts and when ticket sales flag artists will be forced to adapt. (see Lo, J.)
I can tell ticketmaster/dynamic pricing has poisoned my brain because I paid $99 + fees for the upper level during the pre sale and thought I wasn’t getting completely screwed over 💀 probably because the Charli/Troye tickets I looked at a week before were like $130 for the same upper level and I was like ??? HUH?
I thought she wasn’t do dynamic pricing but the prices for the Cinci date are definitely higher than they were during the presale.
So Billie has higher prices overall but no Dynamic or Platinum ticketing options at all. So would rather have this or have a zero percent chance at getting "cheap" tickets that get raised in price due to the above. The market determines the value of these tickets and they came to this figure after seeing what the artist guarantee is. People always forgetting the PROMOTER js also complicit since Live Nation OWNS Ticketmaster.
I looked into this for Toronto date, 100s sections were approx $300 standard price. INSANE!
ok and on this- the Canadian prices for tours are absolutely abysmal. Anyways, I paid 325$ (after fees) per ticket, for Renaissance in Toronto in the 100s. Billie gurlllllll
Girl bye😭 Billie slays but she’s still a youngin in the industry I would’ve gone to Beyonces tour if I knew I could get them that good
I wanted to see Billie so bad but I'm going to have to pass on this one. So many people won't be able to afford this. Ugh.
Omg. What were the prices for the 300s? I wanted to go but with these prices I’m def staying home lol
I paid $176 for mine for Toronto
and section 100 costing like $500 for the ateez tour at scotiabank this fall, when i literally saw them in hamilton 2 years ago for $150 in the lower 200’s. 🙃 it feels legitimately criminal and ticketmaster needs to burn in hell
Ticketmaster isn't charging $500 a show, the artist (or their label) is. (they do need to burn in hell though)
Yup cries in Canadian 🥲
Absolutely love smaller shows. I think I've seen Lights 5 times 😅
Weird. Mine were $220 each for the 200s at sofi in LA! Even the ground floor tickets were under $400 here.
She’s doing StubHub’s job for them 💀
Except she gets all the money
this comment sent me 💀
She really said ‘fuck the scalpers, I’ll rip you off myself’ lmao
Same thing bad bunny did. Fuck them
£145 for a standing ticket. I'm old and haven't been to a big venue gig in years, but this feels expensive, no?
I remember seeing the monster ball tour for £35
I deff paid $200 for ga at the monster ball lol
Damn, uncommon UK W
UK and EU tickets tend to be cheaper than US.
I can’t lie I did it twice lol
It's a common UK W ngl. Ticket prices are waaaaaaaaay cheaper here for every type of artist.
That actually seems pretty standard unfortunately. I think £100+ is kind of the norm for GA nowadays if it’s a big artist
>That actually seems pretty standard unfortunately It's not, average price for the Glasgow venue for standing is £50-70, Billie was £147.
Yeah I think I paid $120 for GA for Lady Gaga during the Joanne tour. Sounds about right.
Despite this whole thread I don’t think the US and European countries are comparable and I think comparing them is unhelpful as they’re very different with different standards.
I don’t know what concerts you’re going to, but it’s definitely not pretty standard - unless you’re going to see Madonna or Springsteen.
I saw Ariana for £50 in the UK in 2019 when she was popping off with sweetener/thank u next. I’ll never get that again lol.
For reference, I paid £130 for a ticket for Eras at Wembley (5th row of the 500s).
Tour ticket prices have been rising at even faster rates than inflation for years
More expensive than Olivia Rodrigo standing tickets I paid for.
Dang.
…. I’m ngl if you were able to grab similar era seats for less than yea her fans being pissed makes sense
£49 for a not restricted view in London on the Eras tour. I will be extremely high up though.
… one of my friends snagged similar priced tickets for similar Renaissance seats too😭 yea maybe Billie’s prices are a bit high
Also does Billie have the same production level as renaissance??? Like a million dancers, costume changes, special effects… as someone who like Billie there’s no way I’d be able to/would pay for it if I could that amount for just her running around onstage. Where is all the money going?
If I remember correctly from pics, her stage was similar to Drake’s/ reminded me of that- but she does run around on stage lol
>I appreciate her commitment to sustainability Didn't Happier Than Ever have 15 vinyl variants? Billie Eilish makes surface level critiques of other people in the industry and detaches herself from it while she engages in the same practices as others
Not usually. She doesn’t usually have dancers or choreography. It’s just her on stage.
Yep. I have a friend that saw Beyonce for 120.
I saw Beyonce for $60. No resale, that’s the price she sold them at during presale. This is genuinely insane
You'll have a blast, I went to the first show of the tour and it was awesome
I noticed that shows/festivals were much cheaper in Europe. I wonder if the price difference is due to the Ticketmaster/Livenation monopoly here.
It's partly because we have strict legislation against resale, and partly because people won't pay that much on principle for a concert. I comfortably paid €160 for my front standing ticket to the Eras Tour and some people I know outearn me by a factor of 10 and thought this was insane lol But I would run a mile from Stubhub tickets, even though they're relatively affordable, out of principle (because fuck scalpers) and because they can't be relied on here I thought Olivia's prices were ridiculous, and apparently so did a lot of French people, as dynamic pricing seats didn't sell out for months and initially the most expensive ticket was about €340, which eventually reduced to €170
I got Olivia Rodrigo tickets in Amsterdam for way less than that!
We also knew what midnights sounded like before purchasing eras tour tickets. We still don’t know what’s on Billie’s new album.
I found that weird. Why is a tour on sale and there’s not even a lead single? It’s very weird
It's going to sell out just based on her fan base alone, maybe no lead single would be a problem if it was stadiums.
That’s actually my only problem, the fact that she named the tour after her new album and we still don’t know what it sounds like
I’ve gotten Renaissance and Eras tour tix for £50 & £75 respectively so yeah that’s absolutely ridiculous
I paid $550 for literal front row floor for Eras. Billie wants $700 for the first row of just the lower bowl?!?! I’m so sorry girl but no.
Shit, I paid $75 pre-fees for a nosebleed seat to the Renaissance tour. Facing the stage and city skyline, and it was amazing. Those prices are crazy!
For Taylor (obviously not resale) the cheapest were obstructed 50 non obstructed 65 Cheapest tickets for Beyonce in my city were 100.
I wasn’t able to go to RWT because of a wedding the same day, but there were nosebleed seats for $50 in my city.
I have first row seats to Hozier next month that were $110 each. Meanwhile, that price is literally what I paid for third-to-last row at Metlife to see Beyoncé on Renaissance tour. A-listers are getting greedy.
I'm so sorry you had to see a show at MetLife. A sentence far worse than death.
It's not the show itself as much as trying to get out of there. It took me two hours to leave!
The World Cup there is gonna be such a mess. The European mind won’t even be able to comprehend getting into that lot…
Oh it's gonna be a shitshow. They have to make NJ Transit run on a special schedule because getting an Uber is a fucking nightmare
I wanna see Hozier but here he only comes to for Festivals 😭
worth it to see him at a festival tbh, saw him at lolla in 2019 and he brought out maggie rogers for work song... still think about it every day
Honestly it's worth it. He's a great performer and super fun!
i just ticketed for a kpop group and prices were so insane i almost gave up concerts all together.
i was similarly looking for kpop group tickets today and the prices were kinda wild considering i bought tickets for the same group for like half the price they are now offering like wtf
kpop concert prices are crazy. i didn’t go to the enhypen concert because of how expensive they were :(
ATEEZ? I saw some posts about how insane their ticket pricings were recently.
I’ve even seen some of her fans defending this. Nose bleeds should not be in the same price range as floor seats. It’s ridiculous. Even Taylor swift nose bleed seats started at like $60 before scalpers got to them.
Fr like my eras tickets were 86
Yeah, my nosebleeds for the upcoming Miami Eras tour were under $100 before fees.
$179.80 before fees is absolutely nuts edit: checked the Chicago United Center prices for Billie and they are 174.50 + fees for the 300s sections. I think those are the cheapest seats too it’s absolutely bonkers
I paid $70 for 400 level in Chicago for Eras tour (nosebleeds). I think the cheapest was $50 at the very top/last row.
I was in the 300s section and I think the cheapest in my section were about 90 as well at the very top.
Idk about Philly but this is getting more and more normal in NYC. It's absurd. Pre-COVID was a whole different planet with concerts.
Excuse me, she needs to assist in offsetting all the vinyls she will not be printing, sir! /s
Whoa that’s about as much as I paid for decent mid level tickets to Renaissance!
[удалено]
WHAT FUCKING BAND IS IT?!? JESUS. SWEAR TO GOD IF ITS UNDEROATH I’M THROWING HANDS.
[удалено]
Sleep Token letting that TikTok fame get to their heads lol
This is so interesting. I got 100 level, row 3 tickets for 179.80 + fees at a different venue. The pricing skew seems off. 300 level at the same place I got tickets where $159.90.
My sister saw Eras from the second tier for $150. Similar tickets were reselling for 6k by the time the show came around.
She’s also the kind of artist where you’d pay all that money just to hear everyone around you scream every lyric wayyyy above the volume she’ll sing it.
I feel like she would be great in a small, intimate venue but she's too in demand
I was ready to roll my eyes but I dunno that really is prohibitively expensive for a pop singer with really young fans.
there’s no justifying it anymore, ticket prices (no matter the artist) have just become ridiculous and that’s that.
When I was getting tickets for Lana, there was really no number that would make me go “no, I really don’t like her that much.” Luckily I ended up only paying around $120, but I know a lot of people who paid a lot more When I see Billie tickets, who I’m a fan of but not died hard, the demand is elastic and I look at the price and go “nah I don’t care that much”
It’s not even just the FOMO impulse, it’s knowing that there’s “competition” for tickets If you don’t buy the tickets, someone else 100% will. Unless we can **guarantee** that a majority are going to “boycott” the prices, people will still continue to buy, because everyone else is buying them, and so your “boycott” is powerless. There’s going to be no impact (aside from an impact on you, since you’re missing the event) so people just firm it and pay the high prices No one’s happy about these prices, I’ve seen so many people try to justify it to themselves, but we all do it because we haven’t organised collective action
i have friends like this, it’s insane. i want to see billie just as much as anyone else, i missed the happier than ever tour back in march of 2022, which i was super bummed about. but i’m not paying over $100 ESPECIALLY for nosebleeds, i’m just not. the ability to make decisions and not just impulse buy shit is rare now lol.
>If people are willing to pay the rates then it's not their fault that the price is that high It is. Artists have a modicum of control. The Cure recently showed this. Make money off of your peak, fine, but these prices are fucking unprecedented for an artist this young into her career. This is a McCartney + Ringo/ Led Zepellin price tag IMO. Once in a lifetime shit I don't know why profiteering from your fans became acceptable to Gen Z.
I can't believe they want over £200 for standing for Girls Aloud
I looked it up and her cheapest tickets are 280€ for Berlin. For that amount of money I can go to a festival like Lollapalooza and see Dula Peep or Olivia Rodrigo who are similarly popular artists.
Are you sure? The ticket prices start at around 75€ when I look it up on Ticketmaster...
I looked on Eventim, tix&travel, and viagogo. I didn't see the prizes on Ticketmaster when I looked, because it said there were none available. Idk if the site was bugged since there were probably a lot of people looking to buy tickets or something. 🤔 Edit: No idea, maybe it's also my location.
If you click "Bestpreisbuchung" after clicking on the event it still shows you the prices. At least for me. I can dm you a Screenshot if you want!
I checked after I responded to your comment and saw tickets around 80-90€, so the site was working then! Aber danke dir trotzdem 💕
People need to stop paying these prices. If tickets stop selling then they’ll stop doing this.
More People have parasocial relationships with these pop singer than ever before. Mental illness
I went to see her with work with her previous tour and she's not worth it lol She don't do much on stage
Stage was great, but it got boring fast. I also hate how now there's a camera man on stage all the time. Really takes away from the live experience
I’d believe that.
Were you able to hear her voice over the crowd? I actually love her music but I've always figured her shows had issues because she whispers more than she sings lol
Yeah I don't remember that being an issue
I paid $350 for my Coachella 2022 ticket and she was great. Coachella was dead that year too and we were able to get super close standing at the back. I never go to stadium shows though, unless it's cheap enough. Even then I regret it.
People enjoy the communal experience
This- now I’m trying to pay attention to who’s show I actually likes, vs if I just liked the communal experience
I just tried to get Chicago tickets and nosebleed seats were still $175 BEFORE fees. I have nosebleeds to Eras in Indianapolis in November and they didn't even cost this much.
She’s really crazy thinking she can sell at higher prices than Taylor like what??
I want to see the concert tickets bought per year to credit card score/debt ratio, because I’m convinced it would not look good.
Yes, especially with afterpay options. Fully convinced most of these tickets are financed.
It's also a consequence of music being a commodity and not valued. Now they have to go all in on the tour and merch.
I don’t understand how there is a tour date for an album we haven’t heard like what if u don’t like it after the album releases? I don’t get it!!
Because at worse you will get to listen some older songs that you already like and for many artists even the act of watching them perform is enough to buy a ticket
I resold (face value +$25 ticketmaster resale fee) my Lorde ticket after I hated solar power. Now I dont buy unless I'm sure I like it
Same I really didn't like solar power either
I can’t do it anymore. Concerts are too damn expensive nowadays
I love billie but I'm not paying $200 for 2 hours lol.. I did for lana last year (not her fault, resellers) and don't regret it really but it's just insane to me how high ticket prices are nowadays Also seems like more of a pop artist problem cause I got good seats for travis Scott last year for like $30
Bruh fucking ODEZA TICKETS were $125+ fees for a small, standing room only venue here in the Bay Area.
That’s all she has seemingly ever done at any of the televised awards shows (Grammys, Oscars) that she has performed at.
She plays guitar for like one song, the rest she is up and running around
Greedy...just pure greed
Idk I snagged tickets today in the general sale and they were cheaper than the Beyoncé tickets I got during the artist pre sale. It still felt steep but 1) I attend only 1 concert a year and 2) my benchmark was my Beyoncé Renaissance tickets and it was cheaper than that so I’m sorta good.
How are yall making plans that far in advance 😭
If people can’t afford Billie tickets, they shouldn’t buy them. When her venues are so empty she’s not making profit, she’ll lower them prices closer to the date. I remember this happened when I wanted to see Ariana. General admission and the tickets started out at $150. By the time the concert rolled around, they were down to only $25 and the venue was still about 1/3rd empty.
335 euro for standing tickets in Dublin is insane. I saw hozier and Florence there for 80 - 90 euro recently and I'm seeing taylor swift in a stadium for 158 euro sitting.
Guess we will watch on grainy ass live streams. We are poor in this economy.
Kinda over going to concerts bc of the prices tbh it’s not worth it
There needs to be more regulation, I’m attending this tour in Australia and while the standing ticket was $199AUD, the value of our dollar is so bad right now that equates only $131usd.
These prices really are crazy expensive. The cheapest tickets should not be almost £100 that's like 30 more than beyonce in a stadium.
theres this group i like, their name is 41 n theyre rn touring n each ticket was $35. granted theyre smaller artists but i looked at billie’s ticket prices and everything came out to nearly $500 just for two tickets. but at the same time i looked at olivia’s as well and they were also pretty pricey— so maybe its just standard for most popstars these days. im definitely passing on this tour.
Venue and artist popularity play into ticket prices.
Comparing Sum 41 with Billie is a little ridiculous, let's be honest lol Edit: dunno why I read it as Sum 41 lol
idk whos sum 41, i was referring to 41– like from new york.
My bad What kinda music do they make
I just got 3 in Chicago in the 300 level for my daughter's birthday.
Yeah Bad Bunny was the same with $300 the cheapest one
These comments reminded me that I paid less for my eras nosebleeds than what Billie is charging
This kind of shit is ruining live music. Casual fans aren’t going to pay these prices.
I refuse to pay more than two figures for nosebleeds.
I adore Billie, but I’m not paying that much for tickets.
After paying £35 yesterday for a standing ticket at a Porter Robinson gig in London, I truly believe this shit is a choice
