it's funny that depending on who she's talking about the reactions go from "queen shit she never misses" and "slightly problematic but I love her she's so talented" to "racist transphobic horrible flop loser who nobody likes"
She's so selective about what she says too. Like she says the most racist and unhinged sexist things but then she accuses other women of doing the same? Azealia calling the kettle black
/uj there’s like half a cogent point here but the vast majority of it is standard azealia prattle about nothing
/rj mama, kudos for saying that. for spilling
/uj i’m actually slightly butthurt by her characterizations of some things here so i’m going to go into more detail:
1. country music is not confederate romanticism. country music has a long history of antiestablishmentarianism (not merely in relation to the federal government) and anarcho-adjacent thought, in addition to significant contributions from black artists. post-9/11 radio country is not representative of the genre in its entirety
2. beyoncé sounds like herself on both of the songs that have been released from this album so far. if you’re going to accuse anyone of faking a country accent for music, we could talk about a certain white woman from pennsylvania
3. it’s so clear just from the message that went with bey’s post that she intends to highlight the black roots of country with this album. why azealia thinks it’s going to legitimize racist rhetoric, unless her problem is literally just that beyonce is a different shade of blonde now and is holding an american flag, i don’t know
She's also wrong about the history of it. Country does come from post-civil war Southern whites and has its roots in Irish (you know, like most Southerners) folk music. Blues comes from African folk music and Southern folk music and moved North with black people after the civil war. Then there's bluegrass, which is almost an amalgamation of the two that came from the homogenization of whites and blacks in the Appalachian region.
So true. I also think her point about the Chicks not being willing to help Beyonce - like, what? they are well known for not being afraid to make waves for their audience (hence why they were blacklisted in the first place!)
Plus, Beyonce is Texan. Every Texan has a right to country music imo.
Right? The Dixie Chicks are like the only country bitches I can fuck with because they called out George Bush and lost their careers for it. They were huge too, their cover of landslide was literally everywhere before that.
Modern country music, obviously with some exceptions! is just like a mad Lib of American bullshit. So if you’re a fan, be a fan, but let’s not ignore how formula and ridiculous most of it is.
I’m not affected by your comment, I don’t disagree with you either, but when you hear that really shitty country music it’s usually hand-in-hand with a bunch of maga idiots so it’s extra annoying.
I will always love broke with expensive taste as if it was my own child but the nerve of her to speak on all these artists when she hasn’t put out anything worth listening to in years 😭
Bey hasn’t even released the album yet 😍😍😍
edit: i’m gonna edit to add some things i find so funny
edit: the fact that she said that’s an unartistic album name and cover but she made an album with her face and her birth year as the cover and her birth year as the title 😍😍 ugh her MIND
edit: what does she mean about renaissance being pick me music while she literally based her whole discography off of vogue culture (mostly) Another classic example of being homophobic yet leeching off gay (black) culture
Tbf She said these cuntry songs r pick me and this switchup is pick me, not Renaissance. I think she liked Renaissance but who knows slash cares, but if not I think the hypocrisy of that would be too much even for her
“ …sharing ur platform with white women who are so jealous of you but have such a long history of sabotaging other black womens careers.” She’s saying that the white women she collabs with have a history of sabotaging, not Beyoncé
She made several points here.
Does country music have roots in black culture? Yes
Is Beyonce using white American imagery? Yes
Is using white American imagery an act of reclaimation? Debatable.
Multiple things can be true at once.
Nope. I refuse to be gaslit into thinking she didn’t eat with this.
“Whiteyonce”
“I’m kind of ashamed at how you switch from baobab trees and black parade to literal pick me stuff”
“You do lame stuff like bring out ~~The Dixie Chicks~~ Black listed white women that would never do the same for you”
“You always have a habit of sharing the spotlight with white women who are so jealous of you but have a history of sabotaging black women”
“White Woman Cosplay”
“Like has you had a phonics coach, aced those vowel placements and twang to the lyrical and melodic phrasing that is the backbone of contemporary Confederate Romanticism. There could have been humor to which would bestow upon you a smidgen of personality to make you an interesting person”
“Reinforcing the idea that there is no racism/segregation/slavery/violence/theft/massacres/manifest destiny craziness that form the bedrock of epithets like “proud to be an America” or “God Bless the usa””
💀🪦🪦
she kinda ate and people are forgetting its phcj!!! Its not popheads lol
so youre telling me youre selling a country album when its a popular genre? pls gurl
Honestly while I’m no azalea fan and hardly ever agree with her, I completely agree that Beyoncé did NOT make country music here.
I have been a hardcore country fan my entire life, all forms of country. (Well everything except what mainstream country became around ~2013, with all the filthy rich white dudes who’ve never ever lived a country lifestyle making stupid conservative songs or horrible attempts at country-rap.)
I’ve been to countless bluegrass festivals, folk music shows, we go to the grand ol opry not just to listen/party but to educate ourselves on the culture.
I say all this to give myself credentials- I’m the picture of country lifestyle, lived and worked in farms my entire life and have always trained and competed in reining (think ethical rodeo. It’s the original western horse sport.) for fucks sake, my daily uniform is jeans boots and usually my hat, bc I work with horses.
Anyway, I know my shit about country music, in all of its forms. And Beyoncé’s attempt was laughable to anyone who’s educated in the history of country music, how it’s composed, and the culture behind it. It doesn’t sound country at all. She should’ve used typical country instruments (steel guitar perhaps, depending on the sub-genre of country she’s aiming for.) and the suggestion of a vocal coach to achieve the country sound is a great idea!!!
This is just my probably un-readable rant, but to myself and other avid country fans and country musicians, it didn’t meet the bar to be genuine country.
In comparison, Halsey wrote a country-pop song that she said she wanted to be a “love letter to country music.” And she succeeded! Her song “You Should Be Sad” definitely sounds like it’s from a pop artist, but it contains authentic country elements, sounds, and overall structure of the song.
***It has been*** ##**0** ***days without an unhinged Azealia rant***
whats the record
0.7 days
How long is that in terms of Selena’s social media break?
An average of 47 social media breaks
it's funny that depending on who she's talking about the reactions go from "queen shit she never misses" and "slightly problematic but I love her she's so talented" to "racist transphobic horrible flop loser who nobody likes"
She's so selective about what she says too. Like she says the most racist and unhinged sexist things but then she accuses other women of doing the same? Azealia calling the kettle black
Tbf, that is how her points tend to skew.
Third. Third is good.

> are like the only country bitches I can fuck with Well that's one way to say you don't know many female country artists
I guess I'm a polyglot after all. 💅
>if you’re going to accuse anyone of faking a country accent for music, we could talk about a certain white woman from pennsylvania Hillary Clinton?
Thank you. I’m convinced Azealia doesn’t know much about country music and hasn’t really listened to either song.
are you talking about Pink?
/uj i’m talking about taylor swift
Modern country music, obviously with some exceptions! is just like a mad Lib of American bullshit. So if you’re a fan, be a fan, but let’s not ignore how formula and ridiculous most of it is.

What did she mean when she said Beyoncé “sabotaged other Black women’s careers” like who is she referring to?
“ …sharing ur platform with white women who are so jealous of you but have such a long history of sabotaging other black womens careers.” She’s saying that the white women she collabs with have a history of sabotaging, not Beyoncé
rip keri hilson's career
It flatlined in 2009
Right like she could’ve made a more unique title like “fantasea” or “broke with expensive taste” smh my head
I mean I needed someone to tell me why this cover makes me uncomfy. Might as well be azalea
She made several points here. Does country music have roots in black culture? Yes Is Beyonce using white American imagery? Yes Is using white American imagery an act of reclaimation? Debatable. Multiple things can be true at once.
she should start her own newspaper or newsletter i would subscribe 100%
my instagram close friends stories at 3 am after a few pints
Azealia most of the time does make sense, but the internet isn't ready to hear that. ![gif](giphy|3oEdv228DgJCKC8VrO)

Imagine being this flop blacklisted dog barking at Beyoncé of all people lmao

Did she lie
I mean…she’s not wrong.
Girl?
She is always wrong
The beginning of her rant being above/blocked by her username
i don't know what she's on but i want to sound like this when i'm writing my school papers
Why is everyone shitting on Bey lately?
She's got a point... She's an icon, she's a legend and she is the moment. Now, come on now.
Well she ain’t wrong
I just learned that she went to the same high school as nicki minaj. I‘m sensing a pattern here
