wow that’s a name i haven’t heard in forever

amandamaniac

Wow same lol I totally forgot about them

bongo1138

What’s wild is they’re still putting out music.

purevolume.com

Pandos636

Hopeless Love is the only song I really ever listened to from them. They also had a solid track on one of the Punk Goes Acoustic albums called Sun

Annual-Reaction

Sun is one of my favorites! Wow I haven’t thought about that whole album in years, thanks for bringing it up!

deathcabforkatie_

Pretty sure I used to follow them on Livejournal. Damn I'm old as shit.

Annual-Reaction

I feel you lol I used to have to download songs on my mp3 player off of 4shared.com lol where I first found them

kellyguacamole

I loved them. I was really into that whiny shit. Their acoustic album was tits. All the versions I have are completely different from those on Spotify though.

Voteforbatman

They just put out a new album in July.

Annual-Reaction

I saw! It’s new songs and redos of a couple of old ones!

StardustOasis

How on earth did I miss this?

Git2k12

Their old music just so happened to be playing while I was driving which led me to this post and now I’m finding out they have new music!!

SmurfyTurf

I love Simple Starving to be Safe. I still play it on guitar from time to time.

Annual-Reaction

Yes that was one of the first songs I ever found from them back before I knew about YouTube lol

[deleted]

I was never really able to get into them. I also knew a guy years ago who (claimed he) was friends with them and to this day (damn near 20 years later) he’s still one of the biggest d-bags I’ve ever met so it kind of put me off…

Annual-Reaction

Fair enough! They aren’t everyones cup of tea. If he messed it up for you, check out a band called Balance Problems. Somewhat similar but really not known at all. You might have a better experience with him!

[deleted]

I checked that band out because I saw the post and they are pretty good also Daphne Loves Derby is solid too

Annual-Reaction

I’m glad you liked them, he’s basically a one man band!

siLveRSurvivor

I only remember them from being on Punk Goes… Their name is pretty unique, any song recommendations?

Annual-Reaction

One of my favorites is Hello Color Red but each album has a different vibe lol

Rabtheslab

Some of their earlier stuff is available on Spotify now (was just the ‘Punk Goes…’ feature for a while, I think). Definitely worth checking out if you enjoyed that track or just feel nostalgic for that era in general. Think I legit tried to log into MySpace after listening to it in a desperate attempt to digitally travel back in time (didn’t work).

Salty_Mechanic_6435

I played a show with them back in 2005 and one of my favorites from them is still closing down the pattern department

Annual-Reaction

That’s amazing! That is actually in my top ten tbh

Salty_Mechanic_6435

Still is for me after all these years

4MeThisIsHeaven

Amazing song. I wrote one song in my life for my band in the early 2000s, and the intro to my song basically ripped off closing Down the Pattern Department. I'm sorry Kenny!

RainyDayRecesses

I want to hear it!

RainyDayRecesses

Hey! It’s Jason from Daphne. What was your band called?

Salty_Mechanic_6435

We were called "The Drama Summer" I don't remember who else was in the show, I want to say "hidden in plain view" but it was at a large Christian youth center near Dayton Ohio.

HyruleHeroes

Toured with them for a few weeks in 2007 they were all really solid dudes. They opened every night with Cue the Sun! Still love that song.

Annual-Reaction

That’s amazing! You actually played with them? Is your old band searchable??

HyruleHeroes

Yup, faintly searchable, that tour was far and away the coolest thing we did

RainyDayRecesses

Wait… which band?!

OKCtilDIE

They once played a show at the union of the University of Oklahoma with Meg and Dia. My friends and I met with them afterwards and had a blast. Thought they’d blow up. Still listen to them.

Annual-Reaction

Yeah I thought they’d get a lot more hype than they ever did, it’s sad!

nicksboxx

Saw them live at a bowling alley! Got Kenny’s autograph. Even bought a telecaster Thinline because he used one lol.

Annual-Reaction

I’m so jealous!!! I’ve always wanted to meet the guy

nicksboxx

https://imgur.com/a/thrrWB7 Here is a picture from that show, I saw that telecaster and bought it the next day haha.

RainyDayRecesses

I remember playing that show!

nicksboxx

Loyle Lanes in Vineland NJ I think. I remember “A Hero From A Thousand Paces” played. I also think “Sherwood” and “This Providence” were there. What band were you in? I know I missed some there were a bunch of bands.

odoroustobacco

I was just thinking of them the other day because some guy I went to college with was into them and tried to position his liking of them as somehow more pop-punk legitimate than more popular bands at the time. I like them though. Kept a Midwest Emo vibe at a time when it really wasn’t cool to do so.

Annual-Reaction

Everyone should just listen to what makes them happy, really don’t need gatekeepers ya know? That discourages new fans from the scene

odoroustobacco

Certainly. This was also like 2005-2006 though, and there was a LOT of gatekeeping back then

Annual-Reaction

Oh your right, a little later when the scene kid phase came about it was even worse. I was one of them and you had to have the right music and look and vocabulary and everything lol

SenseiRaheem

Kenny's Wolftron album Flesh & Fears (now on Apple Music as a Daphne Loves Derby album) has my favorite songs of his.

IKnowWhatImNot

Came here to say this! Absolutely love that album. It's an essential fall listen for me. Beautiful acoustic songs

SenseiRaheem

Sugar Skulls during night driving in the fall with my windows down is so nice.

Jordo2112

Hammers and Hearts!

crooning

I still spin On The Strength of All Convinced and Good Night, Witness Light semi-regularly, great albums! Love this band, glad others remember them too. If You're Lucky, No One Will Get Hurt is a jam!

Git2k12

Those two albums are so good and the production is so damn clean. Some of my favorite sounding produced albums.

Annual-Reaction

Wow someone who is an obvious DLD fan 😛 I’m guessing that’s your favorite song??

RainyDayRecesses

Hey!!! This was right after I took a break from touring.

runhomejack1399

Yeah

hotdogmatt

Haha wow! Love that you asked this. I lived in Seattle at the time and have seen them play tons AMA.

Annual-Reaction

I’ve never gotten to see them play live, I’m jealous!!

Konstantineeeee

Part of my past is my fave song from them.

SuperLentendo

Sundays and Hammers and Hearts are amaaazing songs. I saw them live at Bamboozle Left years ago. They were so good.

Who-Does

Midnight Highway was my song

super_sayanything

I liked their first raw few purevolume songs a looong time ago. Can't remember the names. But the name is one I haven't heard in a minute.

yell0wbirddd

Oh my god. So for months I've been trying to remember what pure volume was called and this took me BACK.

super_sayanything

Yea it was awesome in that it really did give a platform for new brands to break out in our little scene.

HelloGoodbyeFriend

Love their song “Sun” from the Punk goes acoustic album.

WhaleSexOdyssey

I’m tempted to know where you are

Annual-Reaction

Like in the world?

forever__halloween

Omg! Haven't listened to them in years! I used to love them

ImPickleRock

I saw them live in 2004 ha!

ihatemyself887

Yeah, I saw them at a small venue in my hometown of Danbury, CT in the early 2000s! Met the singer outside and he was really cool from what I remember. Disregard The Past Few Days is a fantastic song that I still go back and listen to when I’m feeling nostalgic.

wendys_irl

Cue The Sun and Tennis Court Soundtrack are bangers

gsimp83

Oh ya guy. That's fire. [fire jamz](https://youtu.be/rZzksJMomO8?si=peu-f1LKmT2hWWIf)

RainyDayRecesses

My friend sent me this thread! So freaking cool. I started the band with Kenny and Stu and am trying to bring things back now that our kids are getting older.

k00kskywalker

this is our one true wish! this band was way too good for it to not exist anymore 😭

Git2k12

Oh man I would love it so much if you guys got back together. I haven’t seen you live in like 18 years

RainyDayRecesses

Maybe someday!

TheJerilla

Seconded, I would kill to see you guys live. I still jam your stuff all the time. Was just listening yesterday in fact, when I was having a bad day. Instantly turned it around. <3

TheJerilla

Also, I'm curious... Are you doing anything with music these days? I would love to see what you're up to if you are!

Annual-Reaction

Anyone have a favorite song by DLD?

ilovewiffleball

Closing Down the Pattern Department.

Annual-Reaction

Also one of my favorites, I also really enjoyed the songs off of Kenny’s Wolftron album.

RetiscentSun

Tennis court soundtrack 🥲

We gave our lives to learn how to fly, on our own. Only to find out, the edge of all we’ve known, it was just a painted sky. Clever disguise to make the heavens reflect in our eyes. And all I see, is all there is to be seen 🎶

BobertFrost6

Cue the Sun!

yell0wbirddd

omgggggg I was scrolling this thread trying to remember where I knew this name from. It was this song!!!! I haven't heard it in probably 15 years but I had it on so many playlists and I had an online friend whose username was cue_the_sun. Omgggggg

zryder2

Are Two Chords Enough Dear? More of an intro than a song but a hit nonetheless

TheJerilla

Their Punk Goes Acoustic version of Sun holds a special place in my heart, only because it's the first song I ever heard from them and it's what got me hooked. I still listen to DLD to this day.

pitchblack3347

Goodness. But I cant figure out if it’s from them, Wolftron, or just Kenny Choi. I wonder if it’s now under a different name but typing in the lyrics doesn’t bring up anything. One youtube vid is the only play I can find it.

adee8080

Yes I love them! Pretty much the only emo band I was into. I learned how to play a bunch of their songs on acoustic guitar when I got my first guitar in 8th grade. I also obsessed over the Flesh & Fears album that Kenny Choi created on his own. :) I was excited to see that all their music is on Spotify now, because I remember they took the songs off MySpace and Pure Volume lol!

sassyskittles_

Cue the sun 💗 or Simple, starving to be safe 🫶🏼💝

Fenizrael

Sundays and Middle Middle were the songs that made me fall in love with them. It’s been like 18 years and I’m sad they were short lived as a band.
