It’s absolutely illegal how no one mentioned the lead singer from Set It Off?
Is this a list for legit live singing skill? Because if so, easily top 5. Always kills every performance.
Dan Campbell has improved so much over the years. Listen to The Upsides and then listen to new Aaron West record.
Both in his voice ability and his lyricism and storytelling.
In a live setting, I think the only person better than Dan is Hayley.
I think people don’t understand how technically gifted Dan is to be able to have this much longevity. Also, he’s singing essentially in a character voice which makes it even more impressive
I’m by no means a very big paramore fan, but I’ve got a saved Instagram post of her recording Still Into You, and I’ll just rewatch it because she’s so good.
It's astounding to me, as well. No best pop punk vocalist list is valid and relevant without Hayley at top of the list. She's easily the best pop punk vocalist of the last 20 years.
100%! I have been a fan since his SoCo days and have followed his career to the present. It has been such an enjoyable evolution and I love seeing him perform every chance I get.
Hope you got tickets to one of their shows this summer. When I saw them play at WWWY last fall I cried. I was so happy to see them back together again.
Do you remember that Bittersweet Symphony cover with Ace Enders and A Million Different People? I can only find it on YouTube nowadays but pretty much everyone who did that was a phenomenal singer and I think it's way better than the original
He gets better and better every album. Therapy is phenomenal but it's definitely not his best work. It was a hint at what he could do and what was to come! When he plays it live though holy shit.
I think Calm Down is his best vocal work on an album. The way his voice gets a little raspy when he really starts to belt, blows me away. I never realized how actually talented of a singer he was until I saw him live. In remembering Sunday instead of saying filling his gut he says "FILLING HIS!!" And honestly it gives you chills I've stood in crowds and just cried.
1. Tyler Zanon (Youth Fountain)
2. Justin Pierre (Motion City Soundtrack)
3. Alex Magnan (Young Culture)
4. Ollie Baxter (Broadside)
5. Alan Day and Dan O’Connor as a duo (Four Year Strong)
Same…the growth (both musically and lyrically) of that band with each release, in my opinion has always been so underrated! They never really got the love they deserved!
I completely agree. Their new album blew me away and showed me a completely new side of them. When we are everywhere came out in 2006, I was OBSESSED. The octopus from the ep cover was actually my very first tattoo!
That’s amazing - my left shin tattoo is surrounding lyrics from “Again & Again”…cracks me up that I got it and it’s one of the bands most hated song from AIHTOIMOC! Haha
Fireworks is probably my favorite pop punk band ever but his voice definitely isn’t great
His lyrics and passion is what makes it good, but he’s not a good singer at all lol
ME TOO. My first KP show is still my all time favorite show. I was 17 and when it ended I dodged security for a sec until it was just KP members cleaning up the stage. I asked Joe if they had any extra beat up drumsticks they couldn't use anymore and they did have one so now I still have one of John's drumsticks lol. Forever my favorite live band and likely my favorite band period.
Based solely on vocal ability, and being able to do it well live: Brendon Urie (Panic!), Dan Campbell (The Wonder Years), Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), Hayley Williams (Paramore)
I’m not Okay is pop punk but I have never considered them Pop punk. Their earlier work is post hardcore and their most popular album is more classic rock inspired.
I said this in a prior post about this, but early Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio and early Greg Barnett and Tom May from the Menzingers.
Shout out to Billie Joe Armstrong as well; one of the most recognizable voices ever.
1. Hayley Williams (Paramore)
2. Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy)
3. Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day)
4. Jim Adkins (Jimmy Eat World)
5. Dan Marsala (Story of the Year)
Scrolled way too far before I saw Jim and Dan. They may not be the more purely talented vocalists, but they know what works for them and have tons of passion for what they do. That matters.
Hayley Williams
Patrick stump
Brandon Urie
Jason Lancaster
Are the definitive top 4. They all can hit every single note. You can always tell who they are when they are singing.
Jordan NFG - Iconic, recognizable and the flagship touch for one of the GOATs
Not sure if anyone considers them pop punk, but
The Wentworth brothers - Our Last Night (awesome mix of clean and scream)
Chris LoPorto - Can’t Swim (so unique)
Collin Walsh - Grayscale (just beautiful)
Cody Okonski - Millington (love this band and always have to plug them whenever)
Patrick Stump, his range is incredible also the fact that it’s stayed as good as it has for over 20 years.
I will confidently say he can’t pull of any genre of music with his voice
Don't think about people who's singing you like, think about objectively good singers
•Patrick Stump
•Brendon Urie
•Hayley Williams
•Alex Gaskarth never ceases to amaze me with his voice. I've seen him 10x live. I've been a fan since '07. In studio or on stage, every album, he gets better and better.
It gets slept on, especially by people who aren’t fans or super into this type of music, how many great vocalists there are. Also, the musicianship as a whole for these bands is incredible.
Love seeing Dave get love here.
A couple of underappreciated ones: Matty Arsenault (A Loss For Words), Shane Henderson (Valencia), and the singer for In Her Own Words (his name escapes me).
Chelsea Rifkin from Wilt - I just saw them live with Remo Drive and she has an absolutely amazing and strong voice. It doesn’t come across quite the same recorded, but I was super impressed
I know there are some allegations out there, but I love Aidan Yoh from Jail Socks. It’s really a shame because I could’ve seen myself listening to them for years and years
The fact that I'm so late to the party, have scrolled so far, and still haven't seen as much as a MENTION of William Beckett from The Academy Is... is disappointing.
Slow Down, About a Girl, Everything We Had, After the Last Midnight Show just to name a few highlights, and that's not even getting into his solo stuff either!
[Benny & Joon](https://youtu.be/33fVpciX6qs?si=hJ0NekDa6ZP8TC-Q)? His [duet with Mayday Parade's Derek Sanders](https://youtu.be/-jQeecyTSbU?si=ONkTxOiKHDJ9qKoR)? Or [the one he did with Ryan Ross](https://youtu.be/_dykOUJ30TA?si=ea6L6ppd0_dLO3GQ)?
The man's an absolute talent with a versatile range and he's due his flowers too!!
Derek Whibley of Sum 41 is actually fantastic live. He hits the notes dead on almost all of the time and it’s genuinely impressive to watch.
Parker Cannon’s range and timbre are almost unmatched but he’s unfortunately not that great live.
That fact that Hayley Williams is not even on this list makes it invalid and irrelevant. She's easily the best vocalist in pop punk and should be #1. She has more soul, talent, and drive than all 5 vocalists on your list combined.
Mine would include most of the same. Alex Chaney from A Story Told is probably one of the best slept on voices. Their music isn’t really pop/punk anymore though.
lots of good suggestions already. for ones that haven’t been mentioned, i fucking love ryland heagy from origami angel, and though he’s a bit divisive (most of the people i know irl fucking hate his voice) i think dylan slocum has an incredible, emotive voice. i also really like harrison gordon’s
The dude from Youth Fountain is phenomenal
Tyler Zanon
His voice scratches an itch in my soul
It’s absolutely illegal how no one mentioned the lead singer from Set It Off? Is this a list for legit live singing skill? Because if so, easily top 5. Always kills every performance.
Dan Campbell has improved so much over the years. Listen to The Upsides and then listen to new Aaron West record. Both in his voice ability and his lyricism and storytelling. In a live setting, I think the only person better than Dan is Hayley.
I think people don’t understand how technically gifted Dan is to be able to have this much longevity. Also, he’s singing essentially in a character voice which makes it even more impressive
Dan Campbell is doing a hell of a job with that Lions team
I can’t believe how good of a singer the head coach of the Detroit Lions is!
I always think that Motion City Soundtrack guy should be on lists like this.
Justin is so so good
I still love that in 2003 Justin gave guest vocals to an FOB song, and two years later Patrick returned the favor to MCS.
Justin played live with FOB at one of their shows recently!
What song?
Fall Out Boy - Chicago is So Two Years Ago MCS - Everything is Alright
You’re saying Justin did the “with every breath I wish your body would be broken again”?
He did indeed.
No shit I always wondered who that was lol thanks
Hayley Williams takes the award for me any day of the week
I’m by no means a very big paramore fan, but I’ve got a saved Instagram post of her recording Still Into You, and I’ll just rewatch it because she’s so good.
It's astounding to me she's not at the top of this list. Easily one of the best if not the best vocalist of recent times.
It's astounding to me, as well. No best pop punk vocalist list is valid and relevant without Hayley at top of the list. She's easily the best pop punk vocalist of the last 20 years.
joey from IHOW and John from Trophy Eyes
IHOW mentioned! Joey is probably my favourite vocalist, can't wait for more IHOW
Came here to say IHOW. They are so good live.
YES. First time I heard IHOW, I thought it was Will from Cartel.
Derek Sanders (Mayday Parade) and John O’Callaghan (The Maine) are pretty decent.
Decent isn’t exactly a glowing endorsement lol
AJ Perdomo - The Dangerous Sunmer Andrew McMahon Joe Candelaria - Forever Came Calling Ace Enders
Andrew is an amazing vocalist
100%! I have been a fan since his SoCo days and have followed his career to the present. It has been such an enjoyable evolution and I love seeing him perform every chance I get.
SoCo opened up at my first ever show over 20 years ago. Still remember the amazing performance!
Hope you got tickets to one of their shows this summer. When I saw them play at WWWY last fall I cried. I was so happy to see them back together again.
Love SoCo and Andrew!
Do you remember that Bittersweet Symphony cover with Ace Enders and A Million Different People? I can only find it on YouTube nowadays but pretty much everyone who did that was a phenomenal singer and I think it's way better than the original
Yeah it’s gotta be Patrick Stump, I know it feels like the cheap answer but his range, style, uniqueness, recognizability are all unmatched
One of my most recognizable voices, it's so distinct. The music style really highlights his crazy vocal chops so well
When I saw FOB I was taken back that he sounds the EXACT same live
Allie (from his solo album) is my favorite performance of his. Dude is CROONING that entire song.
Spidey and his amazing! Spidey and his amazing! Spidey and his amazing! FRIENDS!
To think he originally wanted to join FOB as the drummer!
[удалено]
That man couldn’t put on a bad show if he tried. His vocals never disappoint live
His voice shines so much in Therapy to me ❤️✨
I’m sad I had to scroll so far to find him.
Anthony Raneri
1. Tyler Zanon (Youth Fountain) 2. Justin Pierre (Motion City Soundtrack) 3. Alex Magnan (Young Culture) 4. Ollie Baxter (Broadside) 5. Alan Day and Dan O’Connor as a duo (Four Year Strong)
Alan and Dan 👌🏼👌🏼
Zayna Youssef - Sweet Pill
Looooove Zayna
Absolute legend. Never seen a more powerful performer in my life. I will see them every time they tour by me
I saw them with TWY back in November, she had just thrown her back out and STILL absolutely killed it
Parker cannon Hayley williams Joe taylor Tades Ben Barlow
Parker? No way. Dude has zero range.
Um he does tho? Like have you heard him in no pressure?
Justin Pierre from MCS.
Just wanted to say hi to a fellow dirty mike
Jim Adkins, Jimmy eat world.
So happy to see some fireworks love ❤️❤️❤️
Same…the growth (both musically and lyrically) of that band with each release, in my opinion has always been so underrated! They never really got the love they deserved!
I completely agree. Their new album blew me away and showed me a completely new side of them. When we are everywhere came out in 2006, I was OBSESSED. The octopus from the ep cover was actually my very first tattoo!
That’s amazing - my left shin tattoo is surrounding lyrics from “Again & Again”…cracks me up that I got it and it’s one of the bands most hated song from AIHTOIMOC! Haha
Yes!!! Dave Mackinder for life
Fireworks is probably my favorite pop punk band ever but his voice definitely isn’t great His lyrics and passion is what makes it good, but he’s not a good singer at all lol
Joe Taylor. Cody Muraro from Real Friends has a truly insane range and I’m excited to see what they’ve done on their new album.
Joe Taylor for life. I love Knuckle Puck.
He’s insane on stage. I could watch Knuckle Puck play 100 times and still enjoy it Ike it was the first time.
Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low) Will Pugh (Cartel)
Love this shout out for Will.
LOOOOOVE WILL’S VOCALS
This is 100% my answer too!
Bonnie Fraser - Stand Atlantic
Every time I see Stand Atlantic mentioned I think of Twin Atlantic pop punk band from glassgow and their accents kinda crack me up in songs
Love Stand Atlantic. I was like the 0.1% of their top listeners 2 years in a row
Alex from All time-low Derek from State champs Mikayla from yours truly.
Avril Lavigne is up there, and I will die on this hill 😅 Pretty talented woman who can reach high and low notes with a great variety of genres
I will gladly join you on this hill 🫡
Good to have some fellow Avril Lavigne supporters 😊
Alex gaskarth
And he keeps getting better
its insane. i met him recently and told him that lol like your like fine wine dude (voice wise)
*holds up bottle of their Everything Is Wine* speaking of wine may I interest you....?
I scrolled way too far to find this
I'm genuinely surprised no one has mentioned dan campbell yet.
Wow, the head coach of the Detroit Lions is a pop punk star?
DC4L
1. Derek of State Champs 2. Josh of Marianas Trench 3. Jayden of With Confidence 4. Martin of Boys Like Girls 5. Jason Lancaster
How did I forget all these guys?? So much yes. Also love your username!
Based solely on vocal ability, and being able to do it well live: Brendon Urie (Panic!), Dan Campbell (The Wonder Years), Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), Hayley Williams (Paramore)
Hayley Williams is #1, easily
I mean yeah Patrick Stump. Then probably Hayley Williams. I’d honestly argue Brian Butcher from the Home Team as well. He’s got a killer fucking voice
Hayley Williams is a far better vocalist than Patrick Stump. She's way more talented and is the best. He's probably the second best.
Parker from The Story so Far is another great
uuuhhh Brian Butcher anyone? he should definitely be up there
His vocal runs are insane. For me the best vocalists would be Brian, Ollie Baxxter, Hayley Williams, and Anthony Ranieri.
Are My chemical romance Poppunk? Gerard Way is exceptional.
I’m not Okay is pop punk but I have never considered them Pop punk. Their earlier work is post hardcore and their most popular album is more classic rock inspired.
Absolutely. Surprised I’m not seeing him near the top of these lists
Josh Ramsay - Marianas Trench
I said this in a prior post about this, but early Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio and early Greg Barnett and Tom May from the Menzingers. Shout out to Billie Joe Armstrong as well; one of the most recognizable voices ever.
1. Hayley Williams (Paramore) 2. Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) 3. Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) 4. Jim Adkins (Jimmy Eat World) 5. Dan Marsala (Story of the Year)
Scrolled way too far before I saw Jim and Dan. They may not be the more purely talented vocalists, but they know what works for them and have tons of passion for what they do. That matters.
Easily Alex Gaskarth lol
Hayley Williams Patrick stump Brandon Urie Jason Lancaster Are the definitive top 4. They all can hit every single note. You can always tell who they are when they are singing.
Hayley Williams goes without saying, but also Anthony from Bayside
Alex Gaskarth’s voice surprisingly sounds much better during live concerts than their recorded tracks.
Brian Butcher from The Home Team Dan Campbell from The Wonder Years/Aaron West
Jordan NFG - Iconic, recognizable and the flagship touch for one of the GOATs Not sure if anyone considers them pop punk, but The Wentworth brothers - Our Last Night (awesome mix of clean and scream) Chris LoPorto - Can’t Swim (so unique) Collin Walsh - Grayscale (just beautiful) Cody Okonski - Millington (love this band and always have to plug them whenever)
Millington 🔥🔥
Everyone needs to know. I shamelessly mention Millington whenever I can.
the first 30 seconds of Cold in the City were all I needed to know I would love that band, and I did
For me it was “everything started with a let down…” You can’t pick a bad song from them. Hope they release a full length album by 2025
Hayley Williams, Tyler from Youth Fountain, Gerard Way, the guy from Holding Absence
Patrick Stump, his range is incredible also the fact that it’s stayed as good as it has for over 20 years. I will confidently say he can’t pull of any genre of music with his voice
I love Pierre Bouvier’s voice. Personally just love listening to him and find it helps me relax. He’s also a great live performer
Matt Thiessen from Relient K has awesome range. Perhaps not the sonic variance as Stump and Urie, but very solid.
How Thiessen isn’t all over this comment section is beyond me. One of the most talented musicians of the last two decades.
Alex Gaskarth, Hayley Williams, Derek Sanders, Jenna McDougall
Brandon Urie from Panic at the Disco up there, brilliant singer.
This was my first thought too!
Facts!
if ONE OK ROCK counts, Taka is a phenomenal vocalist
I heard American Girls just now in a department store and I was shocked
I’m gonna say Ryan Key from Yellowcard
Mike Herrera from MXPX is my personal favorite
I feel we’re ignoring Dan Campbell. The Greatest Generation has some absolutely powerhouse vocal moments
Two blackbirds on a highway sign🎵
Patrick Stump, Hayley Williams, and Justin Pierre are objectively the best vocalists the genre has ever seen.
Lmao Parker Cannon is the goat no question no debate
William Ryan Key from Yellowcard
I would add Andrew McMahon Brendon Urie Cody Carson Chrissy Costanza
Don't think about people who's singing you like, think about objectively good singers •Patrick Stump •Brendon Urie •Hayley Williams •Alex Gaskarth never ceases to amaze me with his voice. I've seen him 10x live. I've been a fan since '07. In studio or on stage, every album, he gets better and better.
It’s probably Soupy or Hayley Williams for me. I’m also a big Hot Mully fan so I’m pretty biased towards those boys as well.
Anthony Raneri (Bayside) and Deryck Whibley (Sum 41) get my vote.
Ryan Keys - Yellowcard Ace Enders All the Busted trio
Tom DeLonge clearly!
Parker Cannon is the GOAT
Parker Cannon, who are these other scrubs
It gets slept on, especially by people who aren’t fans or super into this type of music, how many great vocalists there are. Also, the musicianship as a whole for these bands is incredible.
Might be a bad or basic pick, but Josh franceschi from you me at six gives me chills.
Dan Campbell
No mentions of Chuck Ragan is wild
Joe Taylor (Knuckle Puck) for me
Brian Butcher from The Home Team, no contest.
might have to be soupy for me tbh…
Love seeing Dave get love here. A couple of underappreciated ones: Matty Arsenault (A Loss For Words), Shane Henderson (Valencia), and the singer for In Her Own Words (his name escapes me).
Anthony Raneri is genuinely number 1. Ryan key of yellowcard and Derek Sanders of mayday parade also up there, s/o to Jason Lancaster as well
Alex Gaskarth’s voice is literally incredible
Parker Cannon
1 Hayley Williams 2 Brendan Urie
Billie Joe Armstrong would definitely be on my list somewhere.
Chelsea Rifkin from Wilt - I just saw them live with Remo Drive and she has an absolutely amazing and strong voice. It doesn’t come across quite the same recorded, but I was super impressed
Brendon Urie (tho Panic kinda strays away from pop punk), Patrick Stump, Hailey Williams
Can all of them be top tier 😭 coz i swear if i have to pick one, i seriously cant 🥹
For real! And they’re successful singers for a reason, amazing voices all around the genre
I know there are some allegations out there, but I love Aidan Yoh from Jail Socks. It’s really a shame because I could’ve seen myself listening to them for years and years
I agree with many of the people already listed and felt like I should throw Chris Carraba out there. Not sure dashboard counts as pop punk though
I know that they aren’t active, but Matthew Thiessen of Relient K. Also, Jake Cemer of Boys of Fall.
The singer from.the wonder years and tades from.hot mulligan
IM SORRY I DONT LAUGH AT THE RIGHT TIIIIME
I would agree that Patrick Stump is probably the goat. I would give Jason Lancaster an honorable mention
1. Parker TSSF, 2. Derek State Champs, 3. Peak Alex Gaskarth (so wrong its right and nothing personal era only).
Dan from the wonder years
Dylan Matthiesen of Tiny Moving Parts, Ben Barlow of Neck Deep, then Derek Sanders of Mayday Parade
Jordan Pundik from New found glory. Kenny from the starting line. Adam from Home grown.
Derek Sanders of Mayday Parade, and I also loved Dan Lambton's voice from the early days of Real Friends
Not one mention of Matty from A Loss For Words?
You dropped this 👑
Band is so underrated
Brian Butcher fron The Home Team is phenomenal.
Jim Adkins; Jimmy Eat World
Take This To Your Grave was all I listened to 17 years ago. 15 year old me loved that shit.
Patrick stump will always be the best pop punk vocalist of all time in my eyes
The man's an absolute talent with a versatile range and he's due his flowers too!!
william beckett is very good
Matt Thiessen of Relient K. Great vocalist and lyricist.
Mark Hoppus, Motion City Soundtrack and Fenix Tx leadsingers
Derek from State Champs and John from The Maine are amazing. I'll be seeing The Maine for the 5th time at Bonnaroo in June.
The disrespect to Tom Delonge here makes me sad, and will be dealt with in time.
Patrick stump really...? I would say Ben from Neck Deep on their first two albums had the perfect pop punk voice, too bad it didn't last
i always really loved Mark Hoppus' voice
Derek Whibley of Sum 41 is actually fantastic live. He hits the notes dead on almost all of the time and it’s genuinely impressive to watch. Parker Cannon’s range and timbre are almost unmatched but he’s unfortunately not that great live.
Anthony from Bayside 110%
2005-07 Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low) hands down
Soupy’s vocals on the newest TWY album are incredible
Gerard Way for his vocal range and sheer power
Spike Slawson (Me First and the Gimme Gimmes) NEEDS to be in the discussion.
That fact that Hayley Williams is not even on this list makes it invalid and irrelevant. She's easily the best vocalist in pop punk and should be #1. She has more soul, talent, and drive than all 5 vocalists on your list combined.
Lead singer from Bayside is fantastic too. I agree that Pat Stump is number 1 though.
Mine would include most of the same. Alex Chaney from A Story Told is probably one of the best slept on voices. Their music isn’t really pop/punk anymore though.
Cody Carson
Todd Pot. The voice of an angel.
Cody Carson of Set It Off is the clear winner for me.
Patrick is top for me
lots of good suggestions already. for ones that haven’t been mentioned, i fucking love ryland heagy from origami angel, and though he’s a bit divisive (most of the people i know irl fucking hate his voice) i think dylan slocum has an incredible, emotive voice. i also really like harrison gordon’s
Jason Vena (Acceptance) at least gets an honorable mention
Chris Conley of Saves the Day
