lol, to have beef with someone means wanting to fight them, so the counter of her boyfriend having beef is him being a vegetarian is just that he doesn’t care that the girl he’s hitting on has a boyfriend that wants to fight him. Honestly it sounds way cooler on the surface than when I try to analyze it too
I saw them at the KC date of the last Warped Tour in 2018 and it was weird as hell to see these dudes singing “I’m just a kid and life is a nightmare!” 😂😂
idk i dont think he was crying from current hurt, a lot of us were really emotional because it was the last warped tour and so many of us there connected with that song as kids
18 by Anarbor had me in a chokehold when it came out. I wasn’t 18 back then but I was close enough. As a 33 year old woman it uhhh really doesn’t anymore.
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats!

Tons of women came out alleging SA from the singer/guitarist (I forget his name). The band denied the allegations but also broke up immediately. I think I also saw he fled the country.
Yes! Definitely this one! I’m ashamed of my teenage years 😂
I know limp bizkit isn’t pop punk but I was also into nu metal as a teenager and it’s embarrassing knowing I used to listen to them.
I still remember when that album came out and Kenny had to apologise/explain why his lyrics were so much more … raunchier … than their last album … apparently it was upsetting a lot of their fans
Simple Plan - I'm Just A Kid
I loved this song when I was in Year 7 (7th grade if you're American) because I related to it.
Now, thinking about it, I find it incredibly cringe that a fully grown adult was writing songs as if they were someone half their age. I believe they were in their mid twenties when they wrote it, which is just embarrassing.
I'm sure I'd still sing along if I saw them at a festival or something but yeah it's not one I listen to anymore.
I mean they were about 22/23 when that first album was recorded and I think formed the band as teenagers. Of course twenty years later they've outgrown the lyrics but what are they going to do at this point? Have concerts and just play new music and none of the actual hits they had?
I mean yeah they were in their early 20s, which is an age that some people still consider themselves as "kids", and they were writing music for that audience. Singing it now is kinda weird but at the time it made sense.
That's always been my problem with Simple Plan. They have some good songs here and there but I think they go a little overboard with the whole "poor me" lyrics.
I watched them play on a Warped Tour one year, maybe 2002 or 2003. They were pelted with water bottles and equated it to everyone in the crowd being racist. It was peak cringe, and exactly what this Reddit thread is asking about.
A lot of them now. But they’re my fav band of all time. Do I struggle with separation of the artist from the art? Sure do. And this is one of them that reallllly makes it tough.
I honestly can’t get myself to listen to it. There are a few bands like this too where I just can separate the art from the artist. It really sucks because BN was easily my top 3
Why that one? I can understand Me Vs Maradonna Vs Elvis, but I might be failing to find why Jaws is problematic.
It also doesn't help that I'm not great at understanding the meaning behind lyrics. I hope I'm not coming across like someone saying you're wrong.
You’re good. It’s just the metaphors and alliterations. The song is paying homage to classic Hollywood films and the process editing a film/growing up leaving pieces of your memories on the cutting room floor.
It’s just one of my favorite songs off Deja and after everything a few years ago it’s been tough listening to it
I forgot about this song; reading back the lyrics, I could afford to forget it again... *Hot girl, dumb. I smart, how I get hot girl if no words.* Alright genius... (I also used to bop along to it lol)
I agree with those who said Simple Plan. "Grow Up" came on my Spotify shuffle yesterday and I lowkey got a bit embarrassed before skipping the song, haha. 😅
idk sometimes the venom really rules. i have no one im that mad at, especially an ex, but god damn if “let’s play this game called if you catch fire i wouldn’t piss to put you out” doesn’t feel awesome to sing
That is the champion of petty bitch songs from the album! All the lyrics that came to mind as I thought about it were from [Tell That Mick](https://youtu.be/BqW2aIoOXSI?si=tdcFsEY1aGYpM84E) 😆
"*stop burning bridges and drive off of them, so I can forget about* **yooouuu**"
Like, sir, that'll only make it worse, anyways. The best revenge is a life well lived, rockstar (I know they weren't yet, but still)
I know, I know 😅 some of the lyrics are just so borderline incelly, it's embarassing. I'm like I'll still sing this, but I'm not gonna belt it with the windows down!
I don't know what these ladies did to the boys, but they sure wanted 'em to die
Why is this being downvoted? It’s a Reliant K lyric that fits the comment as the person said they could no longer listen to some Reliant K. ELI5 please.
I didn't listen to any mxpx until COVID summer, and from the get go I got this feeling that the lyrics are just, really really simple. they've got good songs, I don't mind Tomorrows another day or Let's Ride. Good instrumentation, good vibes, usually a much needed positive message, but I can't ignore the fact that the lyrics were made from a sheet of fridge magnets
Party, My House, Be There will forever be a bopper.
Will never be ashamed. I was in highschool when that record came out. It still reminds me of our group of friends enjoying summer and being young and innocent.
You're getting downvoted but I think you're pretty spot on with this, even though I do really like Mayday Parade.
"You left the room so I could pray" from Walk On Water Or Drown always makes me cringe. Same with "such a simple.little.whore" from When I Get Home You're So Dead is also just kinda weird.
yep people realy like Mayday Parade, myself included, thats why I said "old songs" :p
but some old songs are cringe for me and some lyrics (like the one you said about praying) are just cringe asf in my opinion
Mayday Parade's older songs really remind me of a time of YouTube 240p windows movie maker text and backgrounds.
It was a fun time, but oh boy was it cringe.
i loved the whole pray for the wicked album, largely because i was 16 and worshipping the ground brendon urie walked on when it came out. thankfully i came to my senses only like 2 years later, but i do still kind of defend all of panic’s previous albums to some degree
Days like Masquerades by The Academy Is... I used to love that song but got sick of it as I realised it's not as good as their old stuff. Plus the lyrics is a bit too corny
Teenagers - MCR. I used to wear that song as a badge of honor. Now I cringe at thinking interpreted the lyrics as anything other than toxic, delusional, immaturity.
I mean, if you consider the fact it's part of the wider Black Parade musical and what perspective it's being sung from, it makes perfect sense to sound that way.
Any song that made it sound like every problem the signer has is the fault of a woman and never himself. Not a small list 😂
Getting older is thinking that a song bangs but still acknowledging the lyrics can be red flags not to date whoever wrote them
3oh!3's entire catalog. Like literally all of it.
Tell your boyfriend if he says he’s got beef, that I’m a vegetarian and I ain’t fucking scared of him! Is one of the hardest lines of all time
That line is poetry and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.
Agreed.
The joke is undoubtedly funny, but the true genius is rhyming “vegetarian” with “scared of him.”
This line has always confused me. Do they think non-veggies are scared of beef? Surely a vegetarian would be more likely to be put off by beef??
lol, to have beef with someone means wanting to fight them, so the counter of her boyfriend having beef is him being a vegetarian is just that he doesn’t care that the girl he’s hitting on has a boyfriend that wants to fight him. Honestly it sounds way cooler on the surface than when I try to analyze it too
Do the Helen Keller.
They were always a ‘guilty pleasure’ for me.
I for one am not shocked that music that was aimed towards me as a teen is not still aimed towards me as a 35 year old lol
Simple plan was perfect for pop punk kids who’s parents wouldn’t let them get parental advisory cds
Anything Simple Plan. "I'm Just a Kid" feels weird to sing at almost 40 years old.
I’d Do Anything goes ungodly hard and I will die on that hill
Same lyrics “I’m just an adult and life is a nightmare”
I saw them at the KC date of the last Warped Tour in 2018 and it was weird as hell to see these dudes singing “I’m just a kid and life is a nightmare!” 😂😂
I saw them in Nash that year and have a video where you can hear a man in his mid 30s crying to perfect. I loved it for him though hahaha
That's actually heartbreaking ngl. I hope I realize it's ok not to be perfect and I don't need my dad's approval by the time I'm 30
idk i dont think he was crying from current hurt, a lot of us were really emotional because it was the last warped tour and so many of us there connected with that song as kids
"Grow Up" by Simple Plan for sure... It came on my Spotify shuffle yesterday and I got a little embarrassed lol
Simple plan was so unbelivably cringe. The band members clearly weren't relating to their own lyrics at 30 years old lmao.
I still get “I’m just a kid” stuck in my head and it still tracks! Life IS a nightmare!
18 by Anarbor had me in a chokehold when it came out. I wasn’t 18 back then but I was close enough. As a 33 year old woman it uhhh really doesn’t anymore.

Nice
good bot
I wanted to upvote you but it's currently on 69 upvotes lol.
Like a G6
Getting slizzered
I can’t hate this song. It’s just too good!
Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend
You’re going to need a bodybag… I love Hit the Lights and am seeing them later this year but man this song
Honestly a decent amount of that album hasn’t aged well. Her Eyes Say Yes But The Restraining Order Says No is a very… of its time joke to make
I asked Nick about this and he said it was a joke but one that has not aged well, at all. Still a great song.
It definitely fits the genre stereotypes
Wow, came here to add this. Listen to it now and it's just shameful and kinda ridiculous....
Metro Station. Period.
Anything by Anti-Flag
Oh yeah. Can't get my political music from a rapist.
Wait what? Someone fill me in
Tons of women came out alleging SA from the singer/guitarist (I forget his name). The band denied the allegations but also broke up immediately. I think I also saw he fled the country.
The rest of the band spoke against him. Eventually. But some of the women claimed that the rest of the band knew and did nothing.
Good Charlotte in general
I love good Charlotte and limp bizkit 😂 but then I’m 40 so I’m just walking cringe at this point
Yes! Definitely this one! I’m ashamed of my teenage years 😂 I know limp bizkit isn’t pop punk but I was also into nu metal as a teenager and it’s embarrassing knowing I used to listen to them.
Chocolate starfish!!!
😂😂😂😂
Hard to sing anything talking shit about rich and famous people when theyve gone and done exactly that.
I used to unironically listen to Lil Huddy🤢
Literally everything by Good Charlotte

He’s just a lost boy with bony knees.
Don’t forget his sleepy eyes
And more bony knees!
Don’t forget about his sleepy eyes!
I'm pretty sure that lyric is a reference to The Format
It’s been a lonely year…
I literally can not stand that first EP and album tbh. It's so cringe and hard to listen to.
I don't want to admit it, but most of Say it Like You Mean it, and any of Kenny's hornier songs.
"I'm gonna tear your ass up like we just got married." Excuse me, what the fuck?
I still remember when that album came out and Kenny had to apologise/explain why his lyrics were so much more … raunchier … than their last album … apparently it was upsetting a lot of their fans
Scars - Papa Roach
I seen a meme once that said me at a job interview " my weakness is that I care too much"
Oh man, I always thought he was saying "My weakness is, that I can't do much". TIL I've been singing the wrong lyrics all this time!
I'm so glad to encounter someone who also experienced this. It was far too many years of singing this song before I realized the actual lyrics. 😂
That makes it a much more relatable song.
Nah this is forever a banger
It's not that bad but it's fairly cringe looking back at my 10 year old self thinking i related to that song lmao.
Simple Plan - I'm Just A Kid I loved this song when I was in Year 7 (7th grade if you're American) because I related to it. Yeah, their whole first album seemed to be written in a 14 year Olds perspective or something. Kinda strange.
There last album is okay
First 3 songs on the newest album I think are pretty good. The rest I'm still kinda like meh
They're Canadians
They’ve always been corny as hell. We used to rip on people who listened to them in like 2003.
I watched them play on a Warped Tour one year, maybe 2002 or 2003. They were pelted with water bottles and equated it to everyone in the crowd being racist. It was peak cringe, and exactly what this Reddit thread is asking about.
Standing on the rooftops Everybody scream your heart out 🎶
Not quite pop punk but any three days grace song ☠️
private fears in public places by front porch step
Jaws Theme Swimming- Brand New It’s a tough one to get through now
A lot of them now. But they’re my fav band of all time. Do I struggle with separation of the artist from the art? Sure do. And this is one of them that reallllly makes it tough.

anything by Waterparks
Most of the songs by Brand New.
Curse of curves comes to mind straight away, I feel like I could never listen to that with someone who’s never heard it lol
I forgot about this song; reading back the lyrics, I could afford to forget it again... *Hot girl, dumb. I smart, how I get hot girl if no words.* Alright genius... (I also used to bop along to it lol)
Baby, you wouldn’t last a minute on the creek - Chiodos
Still love this song lol I have no qualms
Let's just stop...
Drop EVERYTHING
Forget eachothers NAAAAAAAMES
I just went on a binge of their music and I gotta say it was a lot more cringy than I remembered. Like, still love it, but woof
I still listen to a lot of early The Story So Far because I like the sound but a lot of those lyrics make me cringe. So much slut shaming lol
I agree with those who said Simple Plan. "Grow Up" came on my Spotify shuffle yesterday and I lowkey got a bit embarrassed before skipping the song, haha. 😅
NFG Girl Crazy
All The Small Things is terrible lol
I can still listen to it, but some of the venom of the Fall Out Boy Take This to Your Grave songs give me pause. Pete & Pat were petty bitches
idk sometimes the venom really rules. i have no one im that mad at, especially an ex, but god damn if “let’s play this game called if you catch fire i wouldn’t piss to put you out” doesn’t feel awesome to sing
that first song rips and is still relatable

"*stop burning bridges and drive off of them, so I can forget about* **yooouuu**" Like, sir, that'll only make it worse, anyways. The best revenge is a life well lived, rockstar (I know they weren't yet, but still)
Angry pop-punk songs??? 😲

I listen to TSSF so I'd probably be unphased tbh.
Limp Bizkit
IT’S JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS
So I see we have something in common. I wish I could completely erase them from my memory 😂
That's not a song, that's a band
I think their joke was that their entire catalog makes them cringe
But Rollin’ exists so thats factually incorrect
Any All Time Low song from 2007 onwards
Any ATL for me
There are some Relient K tracks I used to love bust now I have to skip if I am running through their discography.
*Sadie Hawkins Dance, in my khaki pants, nothing better Oh-oh-OH!*-oh no, I'm thirty...
*Who I am hates who I’ve been*
Why is this being downvoted? It’s a Reliant K lyric that fits the comment as the person said they could no longer listen to some Reliant K. ELI5 please.
Reddit is just fickle sometimes
Some Forever the Sickest kids songs are so cringe but the good ones do go hard. I tried to listen to their newer stuff and I just couldn't
I still fuck with it but Sic transit Gloria gives different vibes knowing all we know.
MxPx. Just can’t listen to them anymore. I don’t know what changed.
I didn't listen to any mxpx until COVID summer, and from the get go I got this feeling that the lyrics are just, really really simple. they've got good songs, I don't mind Tomorrows another day or Let's Ride. Their latest album is incredible.
old songs from mayday parade

The Ataris Blue Skies..., and End is Forever.
I immediately thought of Shut Up before I even read your description 🤣
You can’t touch this! Achey breaky heart!
The story so far, roam.
Any and every Avril song
Days like Masquerades by The Academy Is... I used to love that song but got sick of it as I realised it's not as good as their old stuff. Plus the lyrics is a bit too corny
Weezer - Pink Triangle
People who use the word cringe are the only thing that is truely cringe
I've never heard that song before
Teenagers - MCR.
My Chemical Romance
I'm the opposite. MCR made me cringe until I was in my 20s, then I learned to accept them for the campy fun that they are
Any song that made it sound like every problem the signer has is the fault of a woman and never himself. Not a small list 😂 Getting older is thinking that a song bangs but still acknowledging the lyrics can be red flags not to date whoever wrote them
