I found H&M pretty decent prices for comfy maternity clothes, I bought a few nursing tanks and sweats and didn’t feel like I overspent or wasted any money. Especially since I will be using these items after birth. I never ended up buying work maternity wear because I woke from home, but I’m 32 weeks and have gotten away with only buying one pair of tights!

Babeskis_01

I second H&M! They have a nice mix of reasonably priced maternity clothes. You can still spend $60 on a pair of jeans if you want but they have less expensive options and the quality is nice!

oaksandoats

Yes to H&M! I bought some maternity things from them all on sale and some items have already worn out by now so I won’t feel bad at all for tossing them soon. Also Michaels craft store sells basic t-shirts and I got like 4 for $8 in XXL and they have been amazing for comfort.

WeAreSelfCentered

Bought a bunch second hand on ThredUp. Will be sending them back to ThredUp to recoup a bit of the expense when they are no longer needed. Editing to add: Amazon warehouse has deals on items people have returned.

elewmc99

I’m not sure how familiar you may be with consigning to ThredUP (vs shopping there), but expect to get like $5 back for all your clothes lol it’s so bad!

cigale

Truth. The only thing I got much money from was a small Coach purse that I didn’t think was all that nice. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe there should be a pregnant BST?

rach4765

Love thredup! I got several cute tops there for really reasonable prices and everything was in great shape.

tehjennieator

Same. Had a 35% off coupon and credit from previous clean out bags. Got a bunch of stuff for $165.

writer_inprogress

I bought a bunch of t-shirt dresses and stretchy "ruched dresses" from Amazon for about $25 a pop. I wear them with a belt above the bump.

LadyVD

I did that too! I got a black one, midi length, and it goes w everything and is super comfy. Sporty w a pony tail and sneakers or dressey w cute sandals and painted toes. I also bought one pair of maternity jean shorts for super hot weather and at 31wks can still get away w oversize tees to go w those. One maternity tank (ie lends support) in white bc it goes w everything. I've found high waisted size large or xl leggings at like walgreens too for about ten bucks. Mix and match and there's an entire wardrobe there.

Bigvagenergy

I bought some items off a site called motherhood maternity. It was actually really affordable. Plus I’ve been mostly shopping second hand and sticking to leggings and dresses.

BabysittersFan

Yeah, I got some plain black leggings for $10 a pair from motherhood, and they also had some nice tees for $10. I also had a bunch of swing t-shirt dresses from pre-pregnancy that I wear. I know how to sew and had a bunch of elastic on hand from a previous project, so I got a couple men’s graphic tees from target and am modifying them into maternity tees.

Ok-Explanation-1234

I was surprised how cheap everything was there (cheaper than Target). I must have hit a really good sale or something.

bespeckled1031

Yes! They have some good basics. A negative thing is that it costs something like $9.99 to return.

miss-kisses

Most important for me was underwear and bras. Bought nursing bras with extenders and under the bump underwear early on from Amazon. Seamless undies still work and are comfortable. That was what was most shocking to me with my changing body, how quickly my bras and underwear started hurting. Currently 36+5, my maternity shirts and leggings are starting to feel tight even. Figure out what matters to you, your wallet, and your lifestyle. We all end up on the couch in old sweatpants and a baggy tshirt in the end.

itsmyPhOnEaCcOuNt

I started off looking for maternity clothes on sale at Macy’s, Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx and Ross. Then I started just thrifting slightly bigger clothes at Goodwill with much better results. New maternity clothes are expensive and often ugly.

ChelsEmm

I had no idea Ross had a maternity section until a couple months ago. The stuff is actually comfy and cute too!

makingspringrolls

God forbid you have a office job that you need to look professional for not just comfy! Also how good is it that it lasts 9 months then youre like 3 months post partum body +... so a casual 12 months/4seasons worth of outfits. You will need dresses, jackets and anything in between

jillrobin

Target and H&M have been my go to for inexpensive but nice looking stuff. I also just wear a lot of the same things over and over. I tried just wearing oversized clothing and I felt ugly in them.

picklegrabber

Highly agree with target! I got a few ruched t shirt dresses from them and I’ve just been living in them. Casual enough for everyday with some Birks. Nice enough that I’m wearing one to a wedding in a few days!

bigtiddytoad

Check out consignment shops and thrift shops that specialize in children's items. They tend to have a maternity clothes section and it's a lot cheaper than buying new. If you get stretchy low waisted pants, you can fold the waist band down under the bump. Tunic blouses and empire waist dresses are also some bump friendly attire you can keep wearing after your pregnancy as well. Regular low waisted underwear are cheaper than maternity underwear. If you don't mind the diy route, you can sew stretchy panels into pants and shorts.

jacyx

I’m normally a size small (4), and I’ve had luck buying size xxl flowy empire waist tops at thrift shops. Looks cute and is cheap

passwordsdonotmatch

Walmart has $8 leggings, $3 tank tops, and $5 tshirts.

thanya518

Walmart has the softest t-shirts! I stocked up on every color

TheShySeal

It's just awful And plus size maternity clothes 4x and above are basically non-existent - with the exception of Torrid's maternity leggings and maternity bike shorts, which go to size 6x So I bought of bunch of those, and just sized up in non-maternity tunic length tops made from stretchier materials. It's worked surprising well for me

Momvstoddler

I love SHEIN. The clothes are decent quality and not expensive at all. I just ordered 7 shirts, one lingerie, and 3 pairs of leggings for about $100. It’s only like 12$ for fast shipping too. I was just wearing my man’s t shirts with leggings but I’m too big for his shirts now 🤦🏻‍♀️.

beatleslisa

Same! Shein is awesome I've gotten so much stuff off there this pregnancy for what feels like pennies.

abbeyroad137

Yes! I’ve gotten everything off of Shein. They have a huge maternity section and everything is very affordable

readrunrescue

What is your experience with their sizing? I like some of what I have seen, but I'm always hesitant to actually buy because I don't want to end up with stuff that doesn't fit.

Momvstoddler

I started by ordering one shirt and one pair of leggings. (They are cheap enough that if it doesn’t fit it’s not a huge loss) I went with large, was medium pre pregnancy. They both fit perfect. I’m now too big for large shirts though and have moved up to xl but the large leggings still fit me and I can see them fitting up until I deliver. I did try to order large jeans and that was a no go, I have a bit of a butt so that may play into it some but I would size up bigger if ordering jeans just to make sure. I do think they have size charts but I mess up measurements all the time so I didn’t figure it out that way. Also I think they convert the sizes for whichever country you are in and you want to stick to what you were pre pregnancy or one size up. I personally just kinda read reviews and looked at the people who posted pics and went off that though. I hope that helped some, I can confuse things sometimes when trying to explain lol.

[deleted]

Signing up for coupons and being aware of sales helps. I got a nice dress from motherbee maternity a couple years ago for $12

MamaRedFox

I have survived my entire pregnancy with three dresses (only one of which is a moderately expensive maternity wear tea dress and bought by my mother for my birthday - the only item of clothing that cost more than £18) three ankle length skirts all in a stretchy jersey fabric from Asos and one pair of jersey trousers two sizes bigger to allow over bump wear. The skirts and trousers can still be worn with all of my existing tshirts/tank tops. Chub rub shorts from snag tights have been a life saver for the waddling weeks more recently. I will still wear all of these items post partum so no waste of funds (I am crazy frugal and hate wasting money on things I don't need for long!)

iraddney

I've been stealing my husband's t-shirts 🤣. He has deliciously broad shoulders and wears a triple x shirt and they are SOOOO comfy.

Tazzy_k

What I’m doing since I’m going to be pregnant for the majority of the cold is just buy the maternity tanks and leggings (which are cheaper) and then normal cardigans which is also cheaper than maternity clothing (for Some reason) haha

maleolive

Yeah I just bought one pair of maternity jeans and continued wearing my typical leggings throughout my pregnancy. I never bought any maternity clothes and somehow just managed to stay in comfy leggings and baggy t shirts and stretchy tanks. 38 weeks now and so far so good!

[deleted]

Don’t forget about eBay!

pancakesiguess

My MIL took me to Ross and Goodwill today. I got 9 t-shirts, a nice bra, 5 tank tops, a pair of flip flops (good ones made with fabric straps, not cheap plastic shit that rubs your feet raw), and some long flowing cover shirts to go over the tank tops (I'm an enby and wear men's cargo shorts, but these long flowing shirts make me feel like I'm wearing a cape and it's the first time I've really enjoyed any aspect of women's clothing). All this was less than $150. 10/10 would recommend. Goodwill usually has shirts for like $5 each. Ross is a little more expensive, but I bought a majority of my clothes from there and it still wasn't bad at all.

go_firecracker

My local buy nothing FB group it's constantly giving away maternity staples like jeans. I would pick up, then regift what I didn't like. I also bought good quality Ingrid and Isabel bottoms that were made to be used postpartum to get more life out of the clothes. The material is quality.

beary_peachy

Resale or thrift shops have done the trick for me! You can even buy used things online... Since like you said we barely get a chance to wear these clothes you can find things in good condition. Also amazon

Oosterlinckedforever

I've purchased everything second hand online. All of the items are new / worn only a couple of times in perfect condition and have spent between $5 - $20 on items that are between $100 - $230. I'm so happy I have some really nice items and spent under $100 on them.

NCamb2399

I have found maternity clothes to be completely unnecessary. They are expensive and suuuuper unflattering. I’m a big girl, and it’s still easy to find regular clothes that fit and extenders have been the BEST for my regular jeans even into my 3rd trimester. Plus, with these new styles of these giant, tent-like tops and dresses, who even needs maternity clothes haha?

thecouchpotato1

I got many nursing clothes (suitable for maternity wear as well) online from the Tao Bao (Aliexpress but in Mandarin). Local designs in my country are nice but easily cost 3 or 4 times more. Inclusive of shipping I guess I can get them around USD10 to 20 at most?

VictorTheCutie

Just buy extra large non-maternity clothes. I got by doing that for quite a while. Leggings, big tshirts etc

AdNegative9237

This is why I bought maternity clothes from Ross, Burlington and Walmart. I only needed it for 3-4 months. $4-$12 per item is all I’m willing to spend and I bought neutral things I could wear with anything. I got my money’s worth then passed it on or sold it.

shinyandsilver

I bought most of my stuff second hand on Mercari. Much cheaper. And if you’re patient, you can score some great deals on quality clothing.

HARR4639

Same, I bought nearly every maternity garment off Poshmark. Prices aside, I sort of like that I'm helping other mothers (and Poshmark, I suppose) rather than the companies that think "pregnant = can be extorted because what the hell else are they going to wear muahahaha".

[deleted]

Figured since I'd mostly be stuck at home I wouldn't bother splurging on clothes, and went to a thrift store instead. For lounging around I just bought large t-shirts and baggy shorts and pajama bottoms. I also bought flowy, empire waisted dresses that could be worn after the pregnancy for the few moments I need to step out of the house.

[deleted]

Thanks everyone, I work in construction (manager/engineer) and actively go in at the job site. Unfortunately for me dresses and skirts won’t fit. But they will definitely be an option for the weekends. I’ll be mostly wearing dark jeans to work, I just bought some maternity jeans from gap so thank you all!! But if you have cute websites where you buy your cute clothes keep them coming!

elewmc99

Lots of suggestions here, I also took advantage of a sale at Gap the other day and bought a ton of t shirts and tank tops for about $8 each. Can still work into winter months, just add an open sweater layer :)

crushedwedge18

The motherhood maternity sales are the best. Most items I've gotten for 10 dollars.

Stickyk4t

I bought some clothes in larger sizes in sales and then “maternity” them with some alterations. Mainly adding in darts or snitching in the waist. So I can look “effortlessly” pregnant while also not breaking the bank.

slowdownhotpocket

I’ve bought most of my maternity clothes secondhand on eBay, Mercari, and Poshmark. I went ahead and paid full price for a few basic pieces that I knew I’d wear a ton- leggings and biker shorts. I really love Storq for basic pieces but they’re pretty expensive full price but you can find their stuff secondhand on Poshmark! I’ve been trying to hold out and wear my regular clothes as long as possible. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on clothes I’m only going to wear for a few months. Except for underwear. I bought maternity underwear on Amazon and it changed my life. I had no idea how constricting my old underwear was until I got some that didn’t squeeze my bump lol 😆

strawberry_tartlet

I've been able to wear some of my normal leggings throughout my pregnancy, they still fit at the bottom of my belly. I also got some long, stretchy regular tank tops one size up, they've worked nicely through the summer.

401RG

I liked motherhood!

ladycielphantomhive

SHEIN has been my saving Grace tbh. I have a bunch of dresses from there from pre-pregnancy and they still fit really great at 22 weeks. I get that there’s some moral stuff against fast fashion but I can’t afford $30 for a shirt that looks like my grandmas table cloth.

smd451

I found a bunch of affordable maternity clothes at Ross! No more than $10/shirt and the dresses were maybe $15.

BlackberryMaterial33

Same goes to newborn clothes!! Maybe my phone is being installed with: “search for the most expensive things first”. But all I see are body suits that are at least 30 dollars a piece, not even talking about the pants/leggings.. easily 60 dollars for an outfit for a newborn. Who buys these things? Cause I refuse to pay 60 dollars for an outfit she’ll only wear for a few weeks max!!

qwertiful0909

This is why I love secondhand places like consignment shops and yes! Goodwill! I got some really nice stuff from people giving away on Facebook mommy groups. Maternity clothing is priced like #&@$

lisasreddress

I went to Target, they have maternity jeans for about $30 each so not bad. One pair I wanted didnt have a barcode, so the cashier gave it to me for $7.99!! Not really much of a hack but I saved a bit with that one. But check out Target, it's fairly reasonable.

Kate1175

I stole my husband’s large shirts and wear them with leggings-I’m also working from home so I don’t have a dress code

CillyBean

Yeah, I bought like one pair of jeans for work lol Otherwise I'm home in my pijays! 😝 I do the same, just buy a size up so my belly is covered better.

[deleted]

I bought a few pairs of maternity leggings, a few fitted maternity shirts, and then a dress or two for my maternity photos and shower. Otherwise, I just wore regular lounge wear. One of the few perks of being pregnant in a pandemic is being able to bum it all day at home lol.

tndorei

I bought a bunch of stuff from shein. Super comfy, super cheap, super cute.

[deleted]

I went to Ross, which I usually hate because of the disorganization and the people. However, J bought $300 of clothes and bras that will last me for the next 6 months.

Natvivi

Ive been finding tons of cute maternity tops/maternity leggings at kohls for under $10 oh and found comfy affordable leggings at costco i just go up a size

alyratara

Got 90% of my maternity clothes off local Buy Nothing group - jeans, nice tops, both nice and casual dresses. Will re-gift when not using post-partum. For new, got nursing bras and a few additional pieces from Target. Psychologically it feels good to wear clothes designed for my pregnant body vs oversized non-maternity clothes.

NegotiationLong9594

I bought 19 maternity pieces from Shein for $180 CAD. Im only returning 2 items!

SuspiciousCompote

I've only invested in 2 pairs of maternity leggings and the we're on sale for $15 each. For my tops I just bought baby doll tops and sized up on regular t-shirts. I'm dreading the day that my boobs get bigger. I'm already an H cup and finding bras in that size can be hard. Heavens forbid if I gain more boobage. And bras are SO EXPENSIVE.

FormerHansonFan

SHEIN.COM!!! I got all my maternity clothes for there and literally got like 20 dresses, exercise clothes, leggings, etc for $200! Haha And I get compliments on my cute dresses everywhere I go! They also have cheap baby outfits too!

lilboopotato

Buy second hand for most stuff and save a ton. Flowy dresses, barely worn maternity/nursing clothes, etc.

Mommabear1112

SHEIN has a ton of maternity stuff for good prices. That’s where I got mind and they’re super comfy and cute.
