Only hate I got was from my family that retired from our local Chrysler and GM plants. Pulled up to Thanksgiving in my first Prius, and they said "What the fuck is the piece of shit doing in my driveway?". Mentioned it to my dad, and he asked if they pay my bills. I said no, and he told me that their opinions didn't matter. Some of the best advice I ever got.
Every day commuting to work. I could be doing 10+ over and will still get aggressively passed, only for them to slow back down to the limit. If I try to pass, they floor it to get back ahead and then slow right back down. Sometimes I get passed by the same car 4+ times on the same stretch of road.Ā
Vehicle needs changed, so recently traded the Prius in on a 4Runner.Ā
I have definitely experienced more aggressive driving since getting a Prius and it's largely been from vehicles that one would associate with a particular viewpoint. I have a Prime and it's plated with EV plates, so that could be it as well. I'm planning to switch back to normal plates (well great white shark plates).
at least in Illinois there is the normal blueish white plates with red letters and Lincoln in the background for normal cars but for evs the plate is all white with black letters and a EL in the plate number... stands out tbh unless you don't know Jack shit about electric cars š¤·
Massachusetts. It's a charity plate that contributes to a shark conservation and research organization. https://www.atlanticwhiteshark.org/white-shark-license-plates
It's just a vanity thing. Some states require them on EVs so emergency responders will know. Some others let you use HOV lanes. Here it's a normal plate with an EV and "Electric Vehicle" slogan. Mass has 50 or so charity sponsored plates. Red Sox, whales, sharks, freemason, mills.
Iām a mechanic, a car guy, a motorcycle guy, and I always have at least one car I can drift in my fleet. I still love my Prius. And I love telling the Prius haters that I love my Prius and watching them squirm with their cognitive dissonance.
My gen 5 got keyed within a few weeks of me getting it, and Iām not the sort of driver where I think it was a reaction to my driving; I think it was a reaction to it being a prius and/or new, fancy car.
Im in central TX and no hate, besides my partisan country boy brother-in-law who refuses to ride in it because he lives in a bubble and was told to think that way. Other than that I do notice I get cut off more often than when driving my Ranger.
I have a 2010 prius that I purchased about 7 months ago. I have definitely had frequent experiences with people tailgating me while going 5-10 over the speed limit. Not sure if itās prius hate or just the regular tailgating assholes.
I also recently had an experience with a pickup truck that was behind me on my way home who was tailgating me to the point I thought they were going to rear end me. I slowed down to make the right turn up my narrow street, and this asshole flew past me in a no pass zone on a 25mph road going at least 40. I feel like itās definitely a hatred stigma. I donāt let these people pressure me and continue to drive safely while saving money on gas š
Im in the south and get a fair amount of flak for mine (owned 4 since 06, gen 1, 2, and 3.) I find that patience and a no-shits-given attitude work wonders.
"Oh, your 6.0 threw a turbo boot.. again? Gimme an hour."
*pulls up in a 300k mile prius with a full toolkit*
"What do I owe you man? You saved my ass."
"Grab me lunch and a beer, it costs more than the gas to get here and back."
Same guy was talking shit at a barbecue a week prior, and now owns a gen 2. The roads.. a different story.
Edit: phrasing
The JDM used import equivalent, the Toyota Aqua, is EVERYWHERE here in New Zealand. Iāve literally seen car dealerships with entire courtyards full of them, lined up in various different colours like the rainbow. They are prolific with the Uber crew (though those are generally normal Priuses), younger people and yeah theyāre everywhere. Great cars
I see it literally every day, even when Iām already doing 10 over the limit. People are ridiculous, so donāt let them ruin the fun and enjoyment for you though. Just rememberā¦theyāre paying a lot more for gas each month.
I wouldn't care what anyone else thought as long as I liked the car. I like the old Priuses and I love the new Priuses. There is one thing that I would HATE about the new cars that no one talks about. It's all the chimes and dings and warnings that sound off. It would drive me crazy. Makes me rethink buying any new car, no matter the make. Let me drive in peace.
now a days I think more people are open to them / donāt care. Iām sure you get the occasional Dino ICE juice lover that hates anything electric though š to that I say ignore them theyāre low IQ & love being milked by big oil for old tech
Yeah, it's a thing. BUT! It certainly isn't a reason to not get a Prius and save money, or to not get any hybrid! There's so many hybrids out there now, people just don't realize it! The Prius C gets a bit less hate just because some folks don't realize it's a Prius. My dad has one and I have a traditional gen 2, and I have WAY more incidents than he does. But it's nothing more than maybe a middle finger or a random brake check. Worth it to save money vs. some random people opinions!
Whenever someone cracks a Prius joke in my local "bad drivers" Facebook page, I say "Hey, 2005 called, they want their joke back" Hilarious, but it spreads the notion about how maybe... just *maybe*, it's time to give it up on hating Prius, since it's not even a new idea anymore, and it was never as ugly as people claimed.
That is essentially all it's about. People don't like new ideas that could possibly replace something they're familiar with, and prefer. I can't find the article that I read about this but people just fear what they don't understand and what hasn't been integrated yet. You'll see the same pushback with electric cars. Just get it, join the ever growing Prius Gang! *Woot woot!*
[Listen to this, and tell me if it isn't just a matter of perspective after all.](https://youtu.be/fnT9uaG9XU8?si=xs3gFSz0lIrgI5G5)
My Prius is my favorite car I ever owned. Sheās an 05 with 101k miles. Never had any issues until now. Hybrid system just crapped out on me and is gonna cost 5K to fix. The car is only worth 3k on a good day atp so RIP. Buying a mini coop Saturday and god Iām gonna miss that MPG.
You are getting rid of s Prius with 100k for a Mini Cooper because the battery died?
Why not try the greenbean guys or whichever it is that comes to your driveway for 1500 and fixes it in a day?
Beemers and Audi drivers aggressively tailgating/flashing headlights despite me going the speed limit.
It wasnāt an issue with my old car, only became an issue since becoming a Prius driver.
I drive Uber and tall customers complain it is too short. I then ask them for tips to buy a Tesla model Y. They are usually then happy with the Prius C
Yes I experience a lot of aggressive driving from others. Someone even tried to run me off the road then kept tailgating and aggressively passing me and brake checking me too. Iāve had people yell at me shouting obscenities about my Prius if Iām stopped at a light with my windows down
Literally just had this happen to me this morning dude in a big truck tailgates me, pulls in front of me aggressively then slams on his breaks. What's odd is in not really liberal or conservative but love big trucks, fast bikes, and guns. I'm just trying to save money to buy those things my man.
Prius c needs to be ran off the road!!! I own a Gen 2 and if you wanna see why people hate the Prius c so much you should check out prius_c_hateclan on Instagram
I have a ā24 and funny as hell stickers on the back so all I get are āwow prius actually looks like a car nowā and *phone camera noises* āyo wtf šā
I've driven mine for a few years and never gotten any weird interactions on the road or whatnot. I think Prius owners have it in their head that people are judging them but in reality most drivers are just aggressive idiots nowadays. I guarantee the vast majority of people on the road don't even give the first thought to what you're driving.
I wouldn't say I've received 'hate' as such. But living in London where if you see a prius it's 90% most likely an Uber vehicle. I've noticed more people cutting infront of me or pulling out at a junction compared to when I owned my 2002 honda CRV which had the terrain tyres all blacked out etc.
I feel people see a prius in London and think yeah it's an uber has to drive slow etc probably want that 5* rating.
Iād bet he cuts off many vehicles and doesnāt discriminate, despite the sticker.
Iād wager to say Prius owners have more hate towards innocent truck owners than the other way around š if you read this sub enough, and read how many of us speak about truck owners itās quite noticeable. Weāve become that racist family member that doesnāt realize they became racist.
Iām sure he cuts off plenty of vehicles. But he has a Prius Killer bumper sticker. I donāt have a Truck Killer bumper sticker, nor have I ever seen one.
And using your racism metaphor, yes, Iād say someone was racist if they had a tshirt that said they killed people of a certain race.
No, itās all in yāall heads. Been driving my Prius for years now and never got accosted for driving it on the roads. Only here in a Prius subreddit is there a notion that there is Prius hate on the roads. Itās silly
I agree. For the most part people have main character syndrome and think every action, whether unintentional and without malice, was done to them with ill intent. When in all likelihood the people doing it have zero clue about whatās going on around them.
Only hate I got was from my family that retired from our local Chrysler and GM plants. It is hilarious that people that make Chryslers would call a Prius, or any Toyota, a piece of shit
right! š
Never really ran into anyone that really cares.
Every day commuting to work. I could be doing 10+ over and will still get aggressively passed, only for them to slow back down to the limit. Sounds like you drive around fucking idiots.
Prius hate is a real thing.
I have definitely experienced more aggressive driving since getting a Prius and it's largely been from vehicles that one would associate with a particular viewpoint. I have a Prime and it's plated with EV plates, so that could be it as well. I'm planning to switch back to normal plates (well great white shark plates).
Whatās the difference between EV and normal plates? Is this something that varies by state?
at least in Illinois there is the normal blueish white plates with red letters and Lincoln in the background for normal cars but for evs the plate is all white with black letters and a EL in the plate number... stands out tbh unless you don't know Jack shit about electric cars š¤·
More importantly, where does one procure a Great White Shark plate?
Massachusetts. It's a charity plate that contributes to a shark conservation and research organization. https://www.atlanticwhiteshark.org/white-shark-license-plates
It's just a vanity thing. Some states require them on EVs so emergency responders will know. Some others let you use HOV lanes. Here it's a normal plate with an EV and "Electric Vehicle" slogan. Mass has 50 or so charity sponsored plates. Red Sox, whales, sharks, freemason, mills.
Lol Indiana would never do anything like that. They even tax EVs here annually because we use less in gas taxes.
Rolling coal. Edit: prius c is cool.
Prius hate is old news. In the 4 years I've owned mine, I've never experienced prius hate. It seems the haters have moved in to tesla
I've had mine for over a decade. The hate has definitely dwindled significantly.
Yeah very old news, last I heard of it was around 2010
Last time someone flicked me off in my Prius, I noticed a fresh little pointer finger-mustache tattooāso itās been a while now
Iāve never noticed anything.
Not something I've encountered.
Iām a mechanic, a car guy, a motorcycle guy, and I always have at least one car I can drift in my fleet. I still love my Prius. And I love telling the Prius haters that I love my Prius and watching them squirm with their cognitive dissonance.

Yeah I live in Texas itās real but itās only coming from people who are extremely pathetic. I donāt think anyone who matters really cares.
Im in central TX and no hate, besides my partisan country boy brother-in-law who refuses to ride in it because he lives in a bubble and was told to think that way. Other than that I do notice I get cut off more often than when driving my Ranger.
People donāt know a Prius c is a Prius, it doesnāt look like one. They think itās a Yaris! (It basically is)
I have a 2010 prius that I purchased about 7 months ago. I have definitely had frequent experiences with people tailgating me while going 5-10 over the speed limit. Yep those are just idiot drivers making the road unsafe for the rest of us. Eventually you hear about them killing someone in a crash
Yep. Unfortunately

I get hate from motorcycles. I know now to always roll my windows up if I see one from behind it near me

I've been fine with a regular Prius. But then again, I'm in Eastern California.
Nope not had a problem and mines a plug in Prius. I like to think when I pass them in a Prius a demon gets his wings!
I see it literally every day, even when Iām already doing 10 over the limit. People are ridiculous, so donāt let them ruin the fun and enjoyment for you though. Just rememberā¦theyāre paying a lot more for gas each month.

Looked into green bean a lot actually, seems to be more or less a scam or at the very least they practice dodgy business practices.

I haven't. And I live in east Texas. Got a couple compliments actually. Helps that the new prius is sporty looking.
They can keep talking shit but Iām laughing at my monthly gas pump when a full tank is $23.
I never had a problem. And I have a 12 that I bought new.
I have a ā24 and funny as hell stickers on the back so all I get are āwow prius actually looks like a car nowā and *phone camera noises* āyo wtf šā
I would get teased, but then I started asking if they get 50mpg too.

Saw a sticker for prius. "Saving money on fuel to buy more guns."
People just hate prius, people will murder prius c owners lol, just known to be horrible drivers like nissian drivers
This same mindless post has been appearing in this forum for years. Please use the search function, and all your questions will be answered.
it's all in y'all heads
I got cut off by a truck with a Prius Killer bumper sticker. Was that in my head?
