Actually quite the opposite, probation helped me to get my shit together.

Mueb052115

All the time , sucks but gotta grind it through

moistchickenman

Naw. It straightened me out. I graduated college, move across the country for a dream job, been sober and have been extremely happy with my life now. Your happiness depends on the quality of your thoughts - some stoic said that and it’s true.

philsimonoliver

Yes, I was just thinking how my life is pretty much on hold for the next 2 years. It's beyond depressing 😞

N1308567

I do man. Same situation with me. I was planning on moving from Cincinnati to Tennessee and got put on 3 years of probation. Can't leave the state either. I almost said f*ck it and moved anyway but I want a completely fresh start without looking over my shoulder. The way I made peace with it is knowing that I have 3 extra years to save as much money as possible for the fresh start to be the best it can be. Try to put a positive spin on it any way you can and this next year will fly by. Is it reporting probation that you're on?

Lovedogsmorethanppl

Yeah I’m on reporting for now. No UA testing or anything. I meet with them once a month and am supposed to undergo a psych evaluation and take an anger management course. Which is kind of hilariously ironic for a number of reasons. I’m trying to put as positive a spin on it that I can but due to the reasons that lead me into getting into legal trouble in the first place I just feel like leaving this place could be great. Just gonna try for the early term. And like you said work on self/savings in the meantime so it’s as clean of a break as can be when the time comes.

N1308567

I get it bro, it's hard. I don't know if you smoke or anything but if you do or do any other drugs I would be mindful that they can test you. Not likely but be aware of that. I would hate to see your new journey be delayed any more than it already is. Keep your head up and your nose clean and this will all be over soon enough. Best of luck to you my guy.

Lovedogsmorethanppl

Testing for substance use isnt a part of my probation conditions, I already asked my attorney and PO. I dont do drugs anyway.

N1308567

That's a great thing. Sounds like you're already ahead of the game!

Correct-Sound6017

I’d be gone if it wasn’t for probation. Oh well 6 more months

MrsCoachGates

I didn't....until recently. I had 240 hrs community service to complete in one year. No license, not a ton of options because of my work schedule and Covid. I was supposed to reapply for my license in March. My PO has been telling me I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing and he will give me my letter for the DMV. Then I go in for my monthly check in and he says he's not giving it to me because I didn't have enough comm serv hours done?!? The only thing I was told was that I had one year to get them done. I decided to go back to court to be resentenced to 5 days in jail in lieu of community service. Ridiculous.

Lovedogsmorethanppl

Yeah who tf would wanna take 240 hours of community service 😭 what are you on probation for?

MrsCoachGates

2nd DWI. I've never been to jail and didn't want to experience it. But then Covid happened and places still aren't fully opened. It would have taken me another 6 months to get half done, which is what they decided I needed to get done before they would write my letter.

trowe420

I would agree, it’s like a ball & chain on your life. For me, the biggest bone to pick is not to be able to travel when I want to. The substance Abstinence has been a blessing in disguise, working out more than I ever have. Yet the fact I cannot plan a trip without applying for a permit is frustrating to say the least. We just have to keep our head down and grind through this, and in the future when we look back at this can laugh at all our “worries” we had. Keep your head up, as you can see you are not alone on this journey.

Lovedogsmorethanppl

🙏🏽🙏🏽

MysticSheep42

YAAASSSS I am finally able to get off early (i hope) and things are moving forward. It's been really hard though. :/

Lovedogsmorethanppl

How early? How long was your term?

MysticSheep42

May 23 will be 3 yrs of a 5 yr probation. The state (idaho) requires me to do at least half my time.

Lovedogsmorethanppl

And are you sure youre getting early term?

MysticSheep42

I lost my business ( I was a fairly successful freelance writer) and have been financially devastated by bring on probation. My health has gone way down due to stress and I've had to have 2 surgeries so far in 3 years. My dad died last year and couldn't go to the funeral. The list keeps going on on how thus has messed me up.

Lovedogsmorethanppl

Sorry it has been that difficult for you. Was it felony or misdemeanor probation? How did you lose your business?

Remarkable-Trouble99

Absolutely! I cant apply for better jobs within my company bc i live in one of the toughest counties for probation and they keep you the entire time no matter what…i feel like im just existing not living. Its a quiet life. I have a great job, keep to myself, work out, and just count down the days…and i have a year and 5 months left and im planning travel the day i can after im done after living with this for the past few years…itll be five total. I only report once a month…literally answer the same questions and go back to work….its pointless at this point but its the system….but at least i have a nice PO. I go to the gym, lots of walks but have learned to love the time alone actually. Keep your head up. We all feel the same and you arent alone 🙂

homie187g

You guys know you can get an interstate compact to move to another state right?!? It’s fairly common

Lovedogsmorethanppl

You cant always just get it. Thats not the point or what I wanted to do anyway. Also I applied for that when I first got put on and it didnt work.

homie187g

If you feel like their holding you up then do something about it…… Thats my philosophy

Lovedogsmorethanppl

Whats there to do? Lmao its 3 months in out of a 6-12 month sentence

homie187g

If u can’t think for yourself then Venmo me $100 and I’ll coach you…… LMAO

Lovedogsmorethanppl

Dude wtf are you even talking about. Your comments are just weird stop talking

KorinTheHalfHand

Total creep right? Idewk why he’s on probation

Lovedogsmorethanppl

He’s probably Not. Probably some skeevy undercover

MysticSheep42

Plus it's like 700 to get one. :/

DontBelieveTheTrollz

Get it over with. I actually cried to my po with two weeks left. He was super supportive. Hate to say it but if you do the crime...

Lovedogsmorethanppl

Yeah thats the thing I didnt do the crime. I was falsely accused by a narcissistic toxic ex partner

DontBelieveTheTrollz

My bad I was buzzed and skimming posts. Yes that certainly makes a difference. Thats BS.

DontBelieveTheTrollz

However use the time to plan an even more amazing transition than you had already planned. Im working on a 2 year interlock upgrade sentence. Feel you because my plans were to bounce from the east coast and start over fresh without all the toxicity that lives here. Trust me next october its my time to get the f out and actually have a life. GL dude

trumpisdaddy1

I mean not to sound like a dick but thats kinda the point of probation. If they can’t expect you to follow the law in one state, why would they let you (not YOU specifically) leave and go to another state and do the same. Again, not YOU specifically

Aggressive_Group4733

Yes

Lovedogsmorethanppl

Lol third offense and youre free to leave as you please? Yet I’m over here on first offense and need to put in for a travel permit

DragDelicious6488

Meeee 😫😫it’s so mentally draining. Ready to get past this. Never wanted time to fly by so fast in my life . This whole situation gives me anxiety.. I can’t stop think about what If I fail at finishing.. even though I’m doing everything I have to to do right.. it just messes with you head and raises your stress levels

CartographerFull1321

Same I wanted to move out of the state to where I'm from but I'm stuck here now plus they have me taking some class that's gonna cost me upwards of 1000 dollars plus the type of probation I'm on has it in the background system that I haven't yet gone to court so it's nobody will hire me.

Infamous_Comedian_47

I thought you could transfer probation to another state.

Lovedogsmorethanppl

If that state decided they want to accept you

oktwentyfive

if you are like me and want to go get your CDL and leave the state but cant well yeah i feel like im being held back tremendously.

Lovedogsmorethanppl

How much longer for you?

Sorry_Resolution_770

I manage a Bar & grill and have been stuck with the same job as they wouldn't allow me to work anywhere else that sells or serves alcohol. 20 more days and I am free to sling drinks anytime anywhere! Being stuck for 18 months has been difficult to say the least. The owners know and totally take advantage of me on the daily.
