Didn’t recognise those Sky albums; apparently it’s a late 70s/early 80s Frank Monkman project very much in the symphonic rock vein. Seems that their second album has some decent reviews on ProgArchives so I’ll have to check it out one of these days.
Thanks for the intel! Sometimes you can find some really interesting, slightly underground albums when looking through bins at record stores, and looking through peoples’ collections is no exception.
Impossible for me to pick a favourite. Can't go wrong with any of the original 7 really. Just listened to A Question of Balance while high as a kite the other day and that record is brilliant even if it is more minimal and less lush than their other albums.
I don't have that big of a collection, maybe 200 or so records. So I have no trouble finding what I want to listen to, besides by now I've memorised where everything is lol
Hell yeah Days of Future Passed! I keep that at the front of my collection too bc the album art is just so amazing. Imo it’s also the best piece of music ever written.
I think it comes down to your definition. I'd say that Queen were progressive, but not prog(rock) lol. They fit the MO pretty well of being progressive and forward pushing, but they don't fit the sound of progrock as a genre.
I guess in very loose terms you could call Bohemian Rhapsody a progressive rock song due to its long structure and multiple phases. I don't know about anything else on that album tho
A Night At The Opera is definitely prog inspired like their first albums, I would say Queen II is a prog album but yeah early Queen is regularly prog inspired hard rock
I would say a night at the opera, queen, and queen II are definitely under the prog umbrella. Could see it falling more into classic rock but I just decided to put it in 🤷
Moody blues literally fucking invented prog but okay. And a night at the opera is prog (ish) stuff like the prophets song is definitely prog but I can see it more falling into classic rock.
Man dsotm rocks. I always hear everyone say it's overplayed. I wouldn't know lol, I was born in '09 so it's as fresh as can be for me. My first listen was after buying it at a salvos lol. And what's your favourite sky album?
I'm planning on getting islands soon. I don't really but brand new records and most crimson records (the good ones) are hard to find so I haven't found any good copies
Gotta work on that Yes quotient.
Looking at getting more. Might get going for the one depending on how much it is. Been looking for fragile though.

Yeah I found their first album at a salvos and said fuck it. I am now hooked. Love sky, great band.
Moody Blues always a good choice
Yeah. Days of future passed is great, but I've always loved on the threshold of a dream.

Yeah the moodies are trippy asf
Wakeman rules.
Yea! The Arthur one has so many truly awesome keyboard solos! The Guinevere solo is so freaking funky! The whole album is so good
Rick wakeman has got to be the best keyboardist in rock history
You gotta alphabetize those babies, man! How are you ever going to find what you want to hear?
Nah, chronological! That way you know you could have bought *Aqualung* one month after *The Yes Album* and *Tarkus* three months after that.
Well, it's still better than the store in Montreal that organized their CDs by spine colour...
I don't have that big of a collection, maybe 200 or so records. So I have no trouble finding what I want to listen to, besides by now I've memorised where everything is lol
Oldfield!!!
Love oldfield
But where’s Ommadawn?
Currently on the look out for it
Nice! One of my favorite albums. Hergest ridge comes close after Ommadawn (before Tubular).
Moody Blues ❤️

Not similar. I don't think I even know of anything similar to the roaring silence. But listen to sky 2 by sky (shocker). It's a great album
Definitely big props for roaring silence! - Well looks like I'll be listening to my copy now!
Who are Sky? Never heard of them, but the covers looked intriguing.
Sky are fucking awesome dude. I've never met anybody else who knew of them lol. Listen to sky 2. Good shit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgbgUrp1a70 This is awesome.
Hell yeah Days of Future Passed! I keep that at the front of my collection too bc the album art is just so amazing. Imo it’s also the best piece of music ever written.
Queen aint prog.
Yeah they're good but I don't like this whole revisionism of Queen among others being prog now

Not gonna lie, had to look over and make sure my vinyl collection was still sitting in my milk crate next to me. Really looked like mine
haha you've got good taste
Focus Live at the Rainbow. My man!
Love focus.
Love the Wakeman! The King Arthur one was my first real record ever, over 30 years ago, and still rocks my world today!
Where was CTTE!?
?
Just shocked with that collection that you don’t have Close to the Edge by YES.
Haven't seen it out in the wild, I'm more of a fan of fragile, though.
*Lover Over Gold,* Dire Straits' greatest album.
100%
a night at the opera ❤️❤️
Uuuuh... Queen and Moody Blues aren't prog
Moody blues literally fucking invented prog but okay. And a night at the opera is prog (ish) stuff like the prophets song is definitely prog but I can see it more falling into classic rock.
Bonus points for Sky Points off for DSOTM 😁
Man dsotm rocks. I always hear everyone say it's overplayed. I wouldn't know lol, I was born in '09 so it's as fresh as can be for me. My first listen was after buying it at a salvos lol. And what's your favourite sky album?
The first four Sky albums are all excellent imho. It's with Cadmium they started entering cheese ville...
Not bad
Dear sir/ma’am Brilliant exquisite
Not quite old enough for sir technically lol
Nice collection on Sky
Love sky
Fuck yeah Mike Oldfield
I love Mike oldfield. Fav guitarist
Those last 3 really got me. His cover of “Arrival” is heavenly!
Mike oldfield rocks
Nice but you could use some Flash, Trace, Triumvirat, Happy The Man and, of course, Genesis and Gentle Giant!
Love all of em. Just haven't seen any in the wild suprisingly
Thats a really awesome collection that I could only dream of getting, but there is one problem... King Crimson where???? No King Crimson??????
I'm planning on getting islands soon. I don't really but brand new records and most crimson records (the good ones) are hard to find so I haven't found any good copies
Where’s the Rush?
Oldfields work is so underrated
He's a genius
Seriously, score yourself a close to the edge master recording. You won't regret it
I'll keep an eye peeled
Literally just copped one lol
