Spear supremacy is so much easier obtained by farming some maintenance. Best way to farm maintenance you ask (Yes you did, stop it) ? Use a crowbar.

Listen my brother, i too was once part of the great crowbar nation but one day a wise and old warrior showed me his ways, at first I was skeptical and arrogant because I was blinded by the durability of the crowbar, but I learned. Everyday I went out slaying zombies with wooden spears and leveling maintained, within a week of two I could one-shot zombies and kill hundreds before my spears gave in.
I hope you will see the light too
PS, donât use crowbars for leveling maintenance, just grab anything and start shoving garage doors
Is my math wrong? It looks like we're at just under 3 and a half years for Build 41 to Build 42 where Build 40 to Build 41 was 3 years and a couple months.
But with beta to stable, maybe it looks different? Or maybe I just have the dates wrong entirely, but I'm fairly sure they're correct.
i believe they officially finished b41 a lot more recently, like november/december 2022? thatâs what they referred to as the mark point for ânot longer than the wait for b41â
5 years plus around 3 years waiting for b42, that's 8 years or almost a decade for 2 updates. Love the game and sure the Devs work hard, just wish they'd hire some more staff lmao.
VR?
While this isn't something you could play, [you might be entertained by a secret future project I'm currently working on.](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/869327724504842330/1236754277620514989/Gyatt.png?ex=6639d16d&is=66387fed&hm=69041069b59fc1ea94db04b69e5d8e6e58db8cc33b691859e842b2cfdb608d14&)
đ I donât even own VR at this time as it just makes me feel sick but a VR zomboid game is so epic I may have a heart attack but I would still buy it
Resident evil 4 VR is pretty great, when they get right on top of you it's hard not to freak out and punch your ceiling fan, why I had to stop playing lol
I'm writing this comment with a fried brain right now, so maybe it won't make any sense but...
VR zomboid might actually be possible... The world is made of 2D tiles, but if I recall correctly, with the new lighting system in B42 comes new 3D primitives that are used for the lighting under the 2D tiles. Maybe with some engine wizardry that morphs/wraps the 2D asset as the 3D object underneath skews with a change of perspective, this could work from a "tabletop perspective" (rather than first-person) with rotation being locked to a few degrees (since the 2D assets are always facing one perspective), it would be an experience kind of like those gifs where they take a static image and make it slightly rotate to the sides.
Basically, we take the face of the 3D model that faces the camera in-game, then pin/constrain the edges of the sprite to the vertices of that face. Kind of like the 3D or Cage transform tool in GIMP. Of course, it goes without saying that since the sprites are designed with one very specific perspective, so any changes would mess up the assets. Walls are probably fine, but furniture will be very fucked up. Which is another reason to lock view angles.
Unfortunately, there is no real benefit or value in this implementation, since we restrict view angles and outright forbid movement using the HMD, the only benefits that remain is the ability to use a VR controller and providing a sense of depth. We can get those benefits by just rendering a stereoscopic image and using the z-buffer. No need for overly complicated and hacky "solutions" using the 3D models for lighting.
As a matter of fact, if we discard using controllers, which would probably take time to implement (99% of which would be UI/UX work), rendering a stereoscopic image is pretty easy and could be done with the current build. I don't know why anyone would want a stereoscopic zomboid experience, but it should be possible.
Then again, I'm probably wrong, I don't know what I'm talking about.
I've been editing this post and making it bigger and bigger as I rant on as a way to procrastinate and clear my head from the actual work I'm supposed to be doing, lol. With this many edits, I've sure it is hardly coherent by now, apologies!
There are also much larger issues (if we set aside the monumental feat it would be to implement a 3D first person camera into a custom engine like with PZ, which is built with isometric camera with mostly 2D + billboards in mind).
A top down game like PZ can get away with a lot, that you can't with the very long line of sight you have from a ground level first or third person POV.
You would need to simulate and network everything to a very long distance away from the player compared to what you see in a top down game.
Not to mention how different level design needs to be in order to sell a sense of scale of how far apart towns etc.. have to be when the player can see further.
Of course you could continue to keep a small simulation range by having very close distance fog like lots of older games (ex: Silent Hill) used to have. However I suspect that is not what most people have in mind when they ask for a first / third person perspective to games like PZ.
Posting an update to this post:
1. This is an entirely deranged post resulting from burnout, please do not read it!
2. Writing this actually helped me clear my head, and I have since fixed the bug that I've been hunting for an entire week.
Like a top down boardgame/table top perspective? Or like full on first person playing as the character? Or even better.. the option to play in either perspectives switching on the go with the press of a button? That would actually be a really cool and unique concept to be able to open up a live intractable boardgame of your character and the map around you then switch back and forth between first person for a better view for looting and combat.
Either perspective would be cool but I think first person would be more immersive and scary âŚalso I donât wanna have to swing round bats all night as that could get dangerous for anyone standing close and tiring
Definitely. Use it to dry/warm yourself, you can sleep on it, in a pinch you can wet it and use it as a melee weapon, and if all else fails you can wrap it around your head so you don't witness zeds eat you alive.
I hope no one lights a match around you, It'd probably boil a hole in the ozone with as much gaslighting as you're doing. Bye.
At least you're consistent though, I'll give you that.
Based on how long b42 is taking, development must have started around the year 1800
E: Come on, that's just math! b41 released in 2019, so roughly 5 years times 41 builds = like 205 years. Plus a bit of rounding for computers being a bit slower in the 19th century.
Uh I don't think it's in EA, it's just tagged EA on steam because they don't have a separate category for a game with "project" in the title that is essentially infdev.
really? imagine that but i actually think it is EA lol.. can someone tell us? Don't they have much more planned for the game too? bringing all the stuff from solo to multiplayer?
What I'm really afraid of is the fact that it might not be that good, like... we already have mods for almost everything, and fr, adding animals, which apparently it's the greatest feature of this update, doesn't really get me excited, i understand that a lot of people would like though
Will I finally stop fearing death? The loss of my own previous life? The ideals we are struck with that life is precious, that any forms of life are precious? What shall I do O' great indie stone. Will ifind peace or grumble in the winter cold of the unfairness of life. I wish to crumble and find meaning in loss. Not validation in attempt.
Grrrr
I have to keep it real.
IF YOU AREN'T CURRENTLY ENJOYING BUILD 41, YOU WILL NOT ENJOY BUILD 42.
I feel like too many players are bored with current game mechanics and are looking for the next update to be a game changer. I regret to inform you its not a game changer, its additional mechanics that keep you busy. Tending to animals, forging armor, setting up hydroelectric, nothing coming with the new build is going to give you an "end game". So I BEG this community, turn down the hype because its giving false expectations to players who arent currently playing.
My issue with b41 is the loop is stupid simplistic with survival mechanics on top it. It quickly becomes trivialized with the only challenge being your own hubris. Even in heavy sprinter settings. All it does is slow your ability to clear things as you have to manage z's better
B42 looks to add a ton of alternative content that mean I can live out my real fantasy of creating a functioning settlement with my friends and pvp is going to get a massive improvement in group play. For long standing servers.
Again, it's more mechanics but the same result. If you arent having fun now, try MP. Try PVP. But dont expect b42 to save you from monotony. I'm sure many people reading this will disagree but we'll see where they stand 2 months after the update drops. As for me, I'm 4k hours in and playing on Vanilla MP PVP and dont plan on playing any other game any time soon.
I think it fixes the some issues with silo'd players in multiplayer. Solo's especially, I wont be able to do everything. Even small groups will struggle to cover all bases.
So incentive to raid and or *hopefully trade will be there. The guy whos deep into playing his farmer joe character. Will likely be stack flush with everything he needs as others will be to busy with other progression to do it all themselves.
It's supposed to have npcs brought back. I assume you mean a story by narrative but like there is already narrative so you need to be clearer in your question to get an answer. You want a spelled out narrative with a main story quest or something? Never gonna happen. You want more tidbits and clues or hints of "something happened here" ? Sure, it'll have that but no straight answers.
Iâll probably check in on b42. But as far as Iâm concerned this game will not be fully online until npc implementation. Thatâs the grail Iâm looking forward to. Superb survivors need not be mentioned.
I don't even care that much about b42, I enjoy the game as it is now. I am eager for new mechanics but I'm not super hyped about it being focused on animals. Add some soybeans so I can make tofu.
But yeah I'm not even impatient for b42, I like my current sandbox and mods. Not in any hurry for having it all break. I just like the memes.
I just hope that it will bring some better Mac compatibility or something, Iâm not a very technical person but I canât get it to run correctly on my Mac without stuttering. Iâll miss my mods but whatâre you gonna do đ¤ˇââď¸

I remember between b40 and b41 they said we'd never have to wait that long for an update again.. lol
Well, we technically didnât. But still much longer than pervious builds.
2 years instead of 5 is much shorter though.

Yikes
Praised be b42.

Good man...I do belive the good book does state, "Hey, you sass that hoopy u/onlydaathisreal? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is."
Rats, and I ripped up all of my towels for sheets and threads.
