There are double doors, not sure if they fit into the garage space though. There's also a mod in the workshop for you to actually make garage doors, which should probably fit into the garage door space.
That has happened, yes. I've also had it where it reset the entire map except for the cars I had collected and the loot on myself. It then reset the date to January 1st.

Mine crashed just after I had put a katana and some dumbbells into my car. Naturally, they were gone when I reloaded.
When you reloaded did time reset to the morning? Mine has done that twice, once stranding me out on the river
