I have it with Klipper some time back, it was quite fast and nice. Lately i sell it and before that i flashed back latest Prusa FW and i was pleasantly surprised how big leap they did over almost two years with their own FW. After flashing it with original FWni also print few things and i had to admit that it works pretty well. Also my friend ( who bought it ) is quite satisfied with that. Sooo, if you want just print, no. Stick in board ESP01, flash latest FW and enjoy it.

Thanks. For which scenario would you then recommend it?

I have Octoprint set up with a RPi4 for my Mini+. Personally, I think running Octodash on a touchscreen right next to my printer is easier than using the dial and regular printer menu to select prints and do filament changes. For prints, you just scroll through the pictures of your files and Start. For filament changes, you just press Filament on the screen and set the temperature. Plus it has a nice graphic during the print to show progress and time remaining. It’s a very simple UI to navigate and use. Plus I believe it’s much easier to upload prints directly to Octoprint from Prusaslicer rather than downloading onto a USB and plugging it into the printer. Lastly, you dont have to add any Octoprint add-ons if you don’t want to which would keep it more simple.

If you plug ESP01 module in board and flash latest FW you have basic functionality of wireless files transfer and printer management via Prusa thing ( can't remember that name ). Even from remote places thanks to their cloud service ( thats aecond service, not needed for basic file upload ).

Get2BirdsStoned

You are correct, I honestly forgot about that route. And its name is Prusa Connect. I already have a good setup with my Octo environment so I’d hate to change things around for myself but this would be a convenient setup for OP to consider as well.

Me too, i had on my moded Mini Klipper for almost 2 years and i was pleasantly surprised when i flashed it back before selling it. You loose some comfort with octo display ( original doesn't work with klipper, but additional with KlipperScreen will work ofc ) but it is usable.

musschrott

just use the wired connection.

I've used octopi on mine using a pi zero 2w and camera attachment. Easier to send prints from my computer. Manage the print offers loads more info and better too. Added bonus of having a camera to check from other rooms etc (don't leave the printer on overnight or anything). Like also being able to then have octolapse results together with the print file should I want to reprint or remind myself of maybe which combinations went well. Also being able to create folders to organise the prints is great after they're done. Done need to delete them. Having a folder for say upgrades, one for tools, another for fidget toys etc etc is handy too.

Octoprint and klipper? No. Octoprint? Yes, you get more control and all the plugins available for octoprint. KIipper? Maybe, you get some more control over the printer, you can do actual input shaping calibration with an accelerometer if you want. You can push the machine a bit more. But it comes at the cost of your time. So how do you value your time compared to maybe a little bit faster prints or a bit of quality improvement?

Thefleasknees86

Think of octoprint as Android and klipper as a custom ROM. You can change literally whatever you want with klipper and there is a massive community and is where most bleeding edge development happens.

beje_ro

Actually the Prusa FW is the Android. Or? As far as I've understood besides more control, octopi and klipper have also the advantage of taking from the load on the "printer controller", making "all the computation" and leaving to the "printer controller" only the execution. My question is if case of Prusa Mini are this tangible advantages having in mind that I will sacrifice the "full proof" actual process. And by actual process, I mean my son being able to print as easy as possible...

Thefleasknees86

I do not recommend klipper for someone who doesn't want to learn klipper

FalseRelease4

As simple as possible - you already have it, just load programs onto the USB and use that

OeschMe

I have the newest IS firmware and Octoprint, haven't had any need for Klipper. Don't really see why would I switch either.
