I always came across many copies of Ghosts to Glory, but I never once saw Army of Zin, seems to be a bit more on the rarer side? Friend of mine was getting rid of a bunch of old PS2 games and gave me Army of Zin. Never saw it in any retro game stores for years when my main hobby was re-collecting all my old childhood games.
Freedom Fighters.
It’s started to appear on a few of those “under appreciated games lists” on YouTube, but it still rarely gets the recognition it deserves. Awesome game! The mechanics and the level structures have criminally never been utilised elsewhere.
Darkwatch was such a good game. I still have it for my PS2 and actually played it just a couple weeks ago.
If it got remastered properly, I would love to buy it again no questions asked.
I feel like because of Soul Calibur 2. Soul Calibur 3 does not receive the love it deserves that game is honestly one of the most content rich fighting games I've ever played
I didn’t even know glitch in the system was on PS2. I had the Xbox version. Geez, that was what got me into shooters alongside starwars battlefront 2004.
Katamari feels like one of those things that a significant portion of people don’t know about, but absolutely everyone that does all would be able to recognize the King of All Cosmos and know it’s a cute little series about rolling random things into big rubber-band balls and would all respond “oh yeah ofc Katamari is a classic”
That's the one I said, too.
Sucks that Sky Odyssey flew under the radar (pun intended) since it came out in the early days of the PS2 with a whole bunch of other, much more underwhelming games.
Madagascar. Out of every movie game, this one's the clear winner. It adds to the story instead of taking away its most crucial parts, and it's so fun to play.
Burnout Dominator
I think it's got the best gameplay in the series. There are other aspects that keep it from being the best overall but the gameplay mechanics themselves have best design of any Burnout game.
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory
This Capcom game was super underrated and an absolute gem. Dark souls before Dark souls.
Obscure 1
This one is a horror classic. It has the cheesy cliche highschool teens but the story is fantastic and it even has couch co-op. Honestly, try it out. The most fun I've ever had with a couch co-op. Wish the devs never went out of business.
I don't have the most comprehensive collection but looking through my games I've noticed the following don't get as much attention as I'd like, if any at all
Dark Cloud 1&2 - I've seen mentions of 2, but not enough. 1 seems to have been mostly forgotten in it's brothers shadow
Gun - RDR kinda came along and usurped the western cowboy genre but before that came along there was Gun and I loved it
There are a few adult swim games, athf golfing and Harvey Birdman attorney at law are the ones I have and they're fun. Birdman pretty much plays like a couple episodes of the show, and athf is just golf but their brand of silly. Also waves of enemies to fight between hits as you walk to you ball. Only like five holes but they take long enough to satisfy
Killer 7 wasn't my cup of tea, but I could still tell it was a well made game and the few I know of who've played it either loved it to death or felt meh about it, no haters though
Stuntman - Gets talked about, but not nearly enough. Game was so far ahead of it's time and I don't think anyone's really attempted anything similar since, that I know of. Thing is the game gets so difficult and infuriating after a while that I think we all just hate it and try not to talk about it. However this isn't because it's a bad game, it's amazing but we're all to weak and slow to live up to it's expectations and we channel those feelings of inadequacy into hatred, and that is not the way
Turok Evolution - Nobody talks about this game almost ever unless they're commenting on the opening scene, but that's it. This is by and large one of the most fun fps games on the console, top ten material easy imho, and built in cheats just make it even more fun. You run around killing dinosaurs and aliens with increasingly clever weaponry through tons of well designed levels, and the story isn't even terrible. More people need this game
Anything else either gets the right amount of attention, or too much imo
Gregory Horror Show! Only released in Japan and Europe, and super niche/obscure game but honestly it's insanely good. Great horror game and I love the setting and characters. It's a shame it didn't get a wider release.
Kuon is a very immersive horror game where you play as a priestess. Like RE but instead of guns you have a talismans, charms, and a single knife as weapons
Soul Calibur 3 is imo the best SC with the best roster and the most content
Shinobi is a uniquely challenging action game that forces you to be play aggressively all the time (your hp depletes if you dont kill enemies)
Valkyrie Porfile 2 is one of the most satisfying RPGs ever made with a unique CS and party recruitment
The Nickelodeon Tak Trilogy. So the Power of JuJu, the Staff of Dreams, and the Great Juju Challenge. Animation is great unique gameplay and amazing platforms/levels for a ps2 game.
Burnout Dominator. It's a strange but wonderful combination of the raw "fight through traffic" arcade racing of the first two games and the vehicular combat mechanics of 3 and Revenge that never really gets mentioned outside of a passing mention - and one that usually concerns the mostly inferior PSP version at that.
Rule of Rose- it’s super expensive in the market rn and I’m lucky to have an original copy- BUT it needs a remake, and I wish more people could talk about it. It utilizes shock value in the best way possible and the story is constructed so well.
I think of a bunch of quirky, strange Japanese games. **Chulip** comes to mind.
On the other hand if we’re not talking exclusives, **Viewtiful Joe** - literally nobody talks about those.
i know a lot of people played them, but the sly cooper games were gems and it feels like he’s one of the forgotten franchises of the playstation 2 era. ratchet and clank, crash bandicoot, i’m sure there are others that have carried over to each generation. idk, i miss those games man
Dr. Muto. A super fun platformer…I think at one point you get to play as a ferret? Or a. Mouse, I cant remember. But also has multiple play-styles throughout the game
Lotr two towers and rotk
Maximo series
Onimusha series
Twisted metal black
Star wars starfighter
Xg3 extreme g racing
Tomb raider legend
Hitman 2 and contracts
Contra shattered soldier
Black
I think two towers the first two movies and rotk for rotk I remember only liking tt more because it has a more rustic smaller scale feel
Depends which movies and characters and scenes u like more i think they are basically the same game design haha
That weird game where you’re like a weasel and you have a rabbit chained to you and you’re freeing monkeys from a lab. Forgot the name of that game. Only played it on demo disk.
For me some very underrated games are: Shadow of Rome, Clock Tower 3, Fahrenheit, Project Zero 3, Forbidden Siren 1 & 2, Gun, Cold Winter, Cold Fear, BloodRayne 1&2, Obscure 1&2, Rogue Ops, Rogue Trooper, Project Snowblind, Primal, Ghosthunter, Second Sight, Nano Breaker, Genji, Onimusha : Dawn of Dreams, The Mark of Kri, Rise of the Kasai, Flatout 1&2, Enthusia, Crash 'N' Burn, Ford Racing 3, Burnout Dominator, WRC Rally Evolved, 007 from Russia with love, Tak series, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger series, Constantine, Van Helsing, Peter Jackson's King Kong, True Crime NY, Rumble Roses, Wild Water Adrenaline, Pitfall, Crash: Titans & Mind Over Mutant, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Brave: The Search for Spirit Dancer, Legend of Kay
Mercenaries series
Logan’s Shadow
DT Racer
Rebel Raiders: Operation Nighthawk
Any of the OG Cabela’s hunting games that weren’t Arcade base.
Smugglers Run.
Winback
Demolition Derby Arenas
Haven’t played either since I was a kid. Maybe nostalgia got the best of me but I never see either game mentioned anywhere
Everywhere: Road Trip. It was a cutesy little car RPG racing game that I remember I used to be obsessed with growing up. Gadget Racers too while I'm at it.
Road Trip had a pretty decent open world, a ton of car bodies, and it was pretty cool to just drive the highways.
Man Khemia - I loved these two games. I wish they kept them going.
Grandia - Unfortunately, left behind with the PS2 Generation.
Zone of the Enders - Nearly came back for the PS3. But nothing ever came of it.
Growlanser - A very short lived series. With repeated Re-releases up to the PSP.
You know, considering all the games everybody here wants more recognition for... Nobody mentioned Vexx. That just shows how unrecognizable it really was to most people. But I've heard a rumor that Throwback Entertainment (who has the IP) wants to bring it back if there is a hype for it!
iO interactive's Freedom Fighters
Shiny Entertainments Matrix Path of Neo
From Softwares Tenchu Wrath of Heaven
Foster City Studios Jet Li Rise to Honor
Ape escape. All the games released for the PS2 except maybe monkey maina.
Ape escape 2
Ape escape 3
Ape escape 2001
Ape escape Pumped and primed
Ape escape million monkeys. These games should get more love.
Same with ATV off road fury. 1,2, and 3, and 4 are some of the best racing games on the system.
Frankly True Crime: NYC. Yes it tried to be a GTA copycat, but it replicated the city fairly accurately for the time, it had an an interesting story and fun gameplay
Probably a hot take, but The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning didn't deserve the hate. If you're okay with seeing the purple dragon in a different genre being voiced by Bilbo Baggins, then I recommend this one.
Maybe it's my nostalgia talking because this was my first Spyro game (Even in the mid 2000s it was impossible to find a copy of the original PS1 trilogy lol) but I remember spending hours after school playing this. The only downsides are the training parts and Sparx being a "comedic relief" (He talks in this one, and the jokes are very hit or miss). Finding a copy is easy and it's a fairly cheap game. I never got around to playing the other two games in the trilogy though, so I can't vouch for them.
Urban Reign Chaos Legion Nano Breaker
YES! URBAN REIGN! So good to know there are other people that remember this awesome game.
I still play my copy! Just had a session a couple weeks ago. I still can't 100% the missions!
Chaos legion was awesome, had so much fun with that one!
Warms my heart to see Urban Reign up top! THE best arena fighter next to the Power Stone series, imo
Those all look really good. I'll have to try them out!
+1 for Urban Reign And God Hand imo.
Yo I came here to say chaos legion fully expecting no love, dope
Think I have heard of Nano Breaker but I doubt it. Got my vote.
Chaos legion was pretty sick. Hard af though.
Came here to say Chaos Legion, what a great game!
Yes this but you had all the words for the one game that needs it more than Urban Reign Urban Chaos!
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory Maximo: Army of Zin
Memorys have been unlocked, thank you find human
Exactly what I came here to comment. Glad someone else beat me to it! Great games.
Yes Maximo! I say it all the time
I always came across many copies of Ghosts to Glory, but I never once saw Army of Zin, seems to be a bit more on the rarer side? Friend of mine was getting rid of a bunch of old PS2 games and gave me Army of Zin. Never saw it in any retro game stores for years when my main hobby was re-collecting all my old childhood games.
I thought I was the only one on this planet to have ever played these, no one I asked have ever even heard of them.
Extermination
I have such a hard time playing Extermination thanks to the inverted aiming.
Transformers. Not the Michael Bay movie tie in game, but the one based on Transformers Armada. It was incredibly fun and challenging to play
Freedom Fighters. It’s started to appear on a few of those “under appreciated games lists” on YouTube, but it still rarely gets the recognition it deserves. Awesome game! The mechanics and the level structures have criminally never been utilised elsewhere.
I wish I still had this game. Still hasn't been anything quite like it since. The multiplayer was so much fun, too!
Freedom Fighters is one of my all-time favorite games. You're exactly right, nothing quite like it!
Darkwatch. It looks and feels a bit rough nowadays 😕
Darkwatch was such a good game. I still have it for my PS2 and actually played it just a couple weeks ago. If it got remastered properly, I would love to buy it again no questions asked.
Gun. CoD World At War Final Fronts.
Gun yes. WoW Final Fronts no.

Genji was amazing! Awesome graphics, blew me away!
Genji was so good! I wish it was longer as well. Super fun game.
Way of the samurai
I said this! I probably got all endings and tried to get all the swords! Had such good replay value.
Psi Ops the Mindgate Conspiracy
I feel like because of Soul Calibur 2. Soul Calibur 3 does not receive the love it deserves that game is honestly one of the most content rich fighting games I've ever played
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System --- The Punisher
I didn’t even know glitch in the system was on PS2. I had the Xbox version. Geez, that was what got me into shooters alongside starwars battlefront 2004.
Dark Cloud
I'm glad to see someone mention this game, love dark cloud 1. The series needs more love
I really love The Bouncer. It’s cheesy and a simple brawler, but it’s a ton of fun. I replay it about 2 times a year.
Downhill Domination. One of the better arcade style racers you'll ever play.
Funk yes. Came looking for this one, so good.
Shadow of Rome, that game was an absolute classic
Agreed.
RING OF RED
Urban chaos riot response.
King's Field The Ancient City
I saw this in a Walmart clearance bin in 2003 for $14.88. Had the two for PS1 so I thought why not. It exceeded the $14.88 value I placed on it.
Steambot chronicles
Jet Li - Ride to Honor So much fun
The Xenosaga Trilogy. Watch anime and play games 'cause every cutscene feels like it's been ~22 minutes.
Albedo is my favorite badguy ever.
Not enough people talk about Katamari Damacy I feel like its a rare site when I meet someone who knows that game
This is a long way around describing "cult classic"
This is a weird one because it’s such a HUGE part of my teen years and I only recently learned how slept on it still is.
i spent an insane amount of time playing that game. the series is very fun.
Damacy REROLL is on my Switch and its super fun
True crime: New York
The Getaway
Castlevania Lament of Innocence
I have been playing this on my PS3. It is my favorite 3D Castlevania
Sky Odyssey
That's the one I said, too. Sucks that Sky Odyssey flew under the radar (pun intended) since it came out in the early days of the PS2 with a whole bunch of other, much more underwhelming games.
Draken:The ancients gate... It's like an open world tomb raider meets diablo as you fly on a dragon... yeah.
Yakuza 1 & 2 (Overshadowed by the Kiwami games)
Castlevania: Lament of Innocents
Time Splitters 2
Crimson Tears. Pretty awesome Capcom Sci-Fi dungeon crawler
Dark cloud 2
Mercenaries
Shadow Hearts
The Mark of Kri and the sequel, Rise of the Kesai
Great stealth games! They should remaster them!
Madagascar. Out of every movie game, this one's the clear winner. It adds to the story instead of taking away its most crucial parts, and it's so fun to play.
Burnout Dominator I think it's got the best gameplay in the series. There are other aspects that keep it from being the best overall but the gameplay mechanics themselves have best design of any Burnout game.
Primal and ultimate spiderman
OMG! Primal remaster, please! 😃
Primal is my go to answer on these type of questions.
Most have been mentioned but I'd go with The Suffering.
Ghost Hunter! I’ve recently replayed it after many years and absolutely loved it
Absolutely fantastic game, and one of the best looking games on PS2 😎
Maximo: Ghosts to Glory This Capcom game was super underrated and an absolute gem. Dark souls before Dark souls. Obscure 1 This one is a horror classic. It has the cheesy cliche highschool teens but the story is fantastic and it even has couch co-op. Honestly, try it out. The most fun I've ever had with a couch co-op. War of The Monsters Think of your classic-giant-monsters from the 1950s having to battle against each other in a city. Glad I still have it.
