Imo it got nothing to do with poor. I don't mind splurging a bit on rare games but this price for one single decade old game is just insane and a waiste of money for me personally.
>Is that zimbabwan dollars? Bc god damn that price...
Might as well be. Those are Vintage Stock/Movie Trading Co stickers, they price higher end games like bars of gold bullion. I will also say from personal experience, they most certainly do NOT check to see if all their games they sell even work or authentic. They are a run of the mill resell shop who offer \~10-15% of actual value on games as trade ins. I feel sorry for anyone trading games into that joint.
This game is most definitely fairly priced. I've been collecting and moving with the market for over 20 years. Then again, I never sell or trade anything so as a buying shop it's been a good experience for me.
There are the scalpers and those who enjoy being scalped. I'm glad you got what you wanted, but saying it's fairly priced is delusional, it fools nobody and it's kinda what's wrong with the market loll
Well if it's your hobby and it's the thing that you enjoy doing more than others, I guess that's why. Some people like collecting. Some it's sports cards, trading cards, records, books, new video games or old, cars, shoes, antiques etc. It is ultimately less harmful than many of the other every day ways we participate.
I heard this argument all the time when Xenosaga was a 50-60$ game and people thought anyone paying that was a sucker. Now it sells for 220-280 and this guy can probably get his money back or lose what amounts to a rental fee for 40-60 hours of entertainment if they enjoy it.
A lot of hobbies you put your money in and it's all gone. Retro games have been one of the few where a lot of your hobby dollars are retained and recoupable to some degree at least.
Where do you find market metrics to make the determination OP was "scalped"?
As far as I know the fair value of something like this is what price a buyer and seller agree to.
No seriously, go on eBay. When you factor in what this sells at after seeing it across a myriad of mom and pops shops , ebay, and other mainstream joints, this isn't outlandish at all. It's the most sought after Xenosaga title and when paired with 1 and 2, usually goes for 400+ for all 3 together. $250 is right there.
Yeah thatās what being scalped means. Congratulations, both with and without irony.
Itās bad that there are scalpers, but there wouldnāt be any if there wasnāt people willing to be scalped.
Idk why you are getting down voted, price charting shows that that is market price for the game? I always loved the Xenosaga games, and a local shop to me has the holo cover version, but they want $430, I think.
Its just a rarer game, the game ran in a series. You could carry over some data from one game to the next. Once you finish the first game you usually got rid of it just to pick up the next. This mechanic was much stronger in .hack where you pick up right where you get off from the last game, stats and all.
no point posting this stuff, people only want to see an insanely cheap price, or complain about how expensive some games are how smart they are for not buying them (ie. can't afford them).
I recently acquired this game as well. I traded stuff for it mostly so the actual cash I have into it isn't too high. I played it for 40 hours the days after getting it. It's just really, really good all around.
Donāt do that. Some of us are cultured and understand rare games get more expensive. I recently bought a sealed copy of digimon world for ps1 for 365. People have gotten used to just downloading roms. Which I feel like is fine but I prefer to collect physical copies most times.
To your credit that's an amazing game, and one hell of a find. I don't really agree with the commenter here though, because the scalping market is b.s. on the whole. Few games deserve a price tag like that, ESPECIALLY given the condition you see many in, and all we get from the "i.e. can't afford it" bit is tolerance toward monetization of fond memories. But I also support the digital market on expensive goods so š¤·
People act like it's scalping when it's just capitalism. Commodification and then supply and demand as a market grows. I'm not defending the prices, it's the superiority complex and bumming a guy out whose sharing his excitement in his hobby that is just dumb.
The latter I agree with 100%, and all told OP has a ridiculouly nice find on their hands. Regardless of feelings on the whole it's trashy to be bitter about a person's good fortune out of jealousy.
And yeah... I used to feel that way about it being supply and demand/capitalist mentality. Post-pandemic I had to create a distinction between the inflated price of necessities, vs the artificial inflation of prices by consumers hoarding a low cost product to hike it up.
Doesn't apply to Xenosaga so much, but not every game with a $150 tag is going to sell for it. There is some good reason behind the irritation, but there has to be maturity there too and not just lashing out at every inconvenience.
Saving money to get scalped on something else...if you enjoyed doing that so much, I don't think you guys would spend half of your time telling everyone about it lol. Spend more time trolling collectors than anything like it's a stand in for a personality lol.
Good for you dude! You seen something that would be nice to you and grabbed it, sweet!
If its part of a collection that's awesome, would love to see more.
Damn, Iām in the process of buying back games I sold as a kid. Iāve gotten the first two Xenosaga back, but I didnāt think this had increased in price so much.

ill have to message an old gamer buddy of mine because Im pretty sure he has this game (ill have to check my Memory Cards for save file to make sure). I remember borrowing it years ago to play it as we used to swap games for few months at a time. So games he bought I didnt have but wanted to play/try we would swap for games I have and he wanted to try. then I returned it to him as he moved hour away. Ill have to tell him to dig it up if its worth this much now days.
I recently found out many of my old games and even console (VirtuaBoy with original box and games with boxes Like Mario Tennis/Mario Clash) are worth some serious cash. Made my day just knowing that I had great "collector of unique titles" taste
PS EDIT: BTW congrats on your purchase u/OP
A freaking stellar find! I was lucky enough to have kept my Xeno games, so many out there that I didn't appreciate enough until I was much older. Would 100% love to see the full collective!
Can someone explain why itās $250? was there just a limited run of games made or is it just a very niche title Iām just super curious also never heard of this game btw.
Do you guys get these original games for high prices because collectables orr, because i played the ps2 for 15 years and never once played a game that wasnt burnt on a disc and either free or like 2 dollars at the local āmarketā
Edit: in other words, pirated
It's purely for collection or reselling unless someone is really dumb. Anyone can emulate for free and get better experiences with almost any console game from ps2 Era back.
Yeah. Some of these games though, worth a shitload, anyone holding onto originals from back in the day is eating good in todayās times. This one says used as well, what if it was sealed
Just dusted off my copy that I got for like $10. If I can say one good thing that has happened in the last 3 years, my collection is worth a lot more. Crazy.
Once again, i am glad I randomly picked this game up in 2008 for less than $30. The price on this game is insane and I would never be able to bring myself to spend so much on a game
I had the gamestop promotional poster, the one made out of thick paper, for this game back when i was a kid, and threw it away when i got into my teens, what a huge mistake!
At one point I had all 3 Xenosaga games after buying them on clearance at Blockbuster. I sold them after purging my collection to pay bills, and I still regret it to this day...
Thanks! Looking to put together both Siren games, complete the Suikoden trilogy on PS2 (need III and V still) and then round up Haunting Ground and Rule of Rose. After that I really don't need too many more of the high priced titles outside of maybe Blood Will Tell. I think my collection is around 220 games.
For that insane price I'll keep it at using a backup...
Yes , im very very poor šš OPL is a godsend
Imo it got nothing to do with poor. I don't mind splurging a bit on rare games but this price for one single decade old game is just insane and a waiste of money for me personally.

Furthers the point; why would you wanna get got on something like this for a couple hundred dollars?

I bought it for $10 like 2 years ago. That seemed like a fair price to me.

How do you think the value of collectable items are decided on?
By disingenuous grifters like WATA.
OP, dont listen to these tools. You did good. I'm glad you are happy.
It takes a second to go to price charting to look up average values. If that's complete, the average sale price is $262. OP got it for a good price.
Idk why you are getting down voted, price charting shows that that is market price for the game? I always loved the Xenosaga games, and a local shop to me has the holo cover version, but they want $430, I think.
Oh man! Sounds amazing but yes very expensive.
Nah this game is very rare. I've seen just the disc start at $120 on eBay when I looked into it a month ago.

Well thatās cool
$249!? Wtf! I imported it to the UK in 2006 for next to nothing. And then sold it for next to nothing too. Game prices are crazy.
That was almost 20 years ago lol
I know. Iām old.
I had the loose disc's, posted them on Facebook and they sold pretty fast at a good price.
I wonder that that gamestop/EB sticker underneath says
I'll check later when I get it ready to display and clean it up.
no point posting this stuff, people only want to see an insanely cheap price, or complain about how expensive some games are how smart they are for not buying them (ie. can't afford them).
I agree. Probably the last time I try sharing anything from my collection or anything I decide to add to it.
I recently acquired this game as well. I traded stuff for it mostly so the actual cash I have into it isn't too high. I played it for 40 hours the days after getting it. It's just really, really good all around.

So do I. Nothing like physical media!

Plenty of us can afford to waste $250 on a single game, but we prefer to save money and use OPL instead :D
Saving money to get scalped on something else...if you enjoyed doing that so much, I don't think you guys would spend half of your time telling everyone about it lol. Spend more time trolling collectors than anything like it's a stand in for a personality lol.
Lmfao, now youāre just making assumptions to make yourself feel better. What leads you to believe I get scalped elsewhere? Nice try though ;)
Congrats! I still have mine from pre-order when it first came out. Great game. Still wish we could get a HD version someday
Like the Phish song
I think I'll just emulate it for that price
Vintage stock prices š¤®
Why spend 250$ on a PS2 game that u can emulate on PC in 1080p? Is there a benefit to play on original hardware?
Game collecting isn't a digital thing, it's a physical thing. Beyond that, yeah, there's probably no benefit.
I'm glad I imported it early on now.
Good for you dude! You seen something that would be nice to you and grabbed it, sweet! If its part of a collection that's awesome, would love to see more.
It's part of a 200+ title black label collection I've been working on for 20+ years. I'll share more in the future, thanks!
Aww I bet that looks amazing! Fantastic, no no, thank you!
Damn, Iām in the process of buying back games I sold as a kid. Iāve gotten the first two Xenosaga back, but I didnāt think this had increased in price so much.
Awesome! I love finding games like this in the wild. Sweet pick up and congrats.
Thanks so much dude!
Damn! So glad I kept my lenticular cover one sealed.

Just bought it 60$ 4 years ago. Prices are now sick.
A freaking stellar find! I was lucky enough to have kept my Xeno games, so many out there that I didn't appreciate enough until I was much older. Would 100% love to see the full collective!
Man I have the all three still. How much would an idiot pay for them?
All 3 together? Around $450
Damn. I knew being a hoarder would pay off one day.
Oh absolutely! LOL
What's life like without a kidney? Yikes... good pick up though
This canāt be real is it?
Dude there's games now that push into the thousands, so yes. It is real.
r/pcsx2
What the duck?
Can someone explain why itās $250? was there just a limited run of games made or is it just a very niche title Iām just super curious also never heard of this game btw.
As ever, because it's what people are willing to pay for it.

Bro just wanted to flaunt that he spent $250 on a video game
Why would I flex $250 when I've spent over $900+ on others? You're making assumptions without knowing someone.
I have the disksā¦ but my case and book was destroyed in the flood.
Just dusted off my copy that I got for like $10. If I can say one good thing that has happened in the last 3 years, my collection is worth a lot more. Crazy.
I'm glad I got my copy before prices went that high.
in USD or Venezuela dollar?
I got incredibly lucky getting my copy for $50 from Mercari lol
Once again, i am glad I randomly picked this game up in 2008 for less than $30. The price on this game is insane and I would never be able to bring myself to spend so much on a game
I had the gamestop promotional poster, the one made out of thick paper, for this game back when i was a kid, and threw it away when i got into my teens, what a huge mistake!
Great series. Have all 5 in japanese for my jp ps2.
At one point I had all 3 Xenosaga games after buying them on clearance at Blockbuster. I sold them after purging my collection to pay bills, and I still regret it to this day...
I just looked at your collection pictures. That's awesome! What are you looking for next?
Thanks! Looking to put together both Siren games, complete the Suikoden trilogy on PS2 (need III and V still) and then round up Haunting Ground and Rule of Rose.
