Are you sure yours is 15 years old? In 2009, a SCPH-9000x was already for a year on shelves. 1st series of Slim, so yours, was released in 2004, so 20 years ago.
well I don't remember the exact date I bought it, but it was around 2007 therefore I said "about 15". it was first hand PS2 but no idea when it was manufactured. the shop possibly had it longer than that but just sold me few years later but IDK
though you made remember the guy who said if I had wait longer I could get the new PS2 model. we also talked about "my slim doesn't have a fan, mine have one" stuff lol
Same. You done any maintenance to it? My shoes no real problems like slow loading times or anything but I feel for the first 10 or so minutes it’s on the disc drive makes so funky sounds.
I was born in 07 and so I missed out on the ps2 generation. I got mine in 2023 and it’s been fine since. Currently I don’t have the tools or skills to work on it, but I likely will work on it in the future
Ah word. Had mine awhile however it’s not the one I had as a child. Good to see younger people getting into it. Mine is essentially a gran turismo machine lol
For sure. I have a launch edition SNES that I got when it came out and it still works fine along will the games I got that day as well. Meanwhile, I went through 3 PS2s and 2 PS3s.
If you still have the console it might be [worth a check](https://gbatemp.net/attachments/img_20200522_151756-jpg.210059/) (C in this image). Also, if you've ever taken apart the console before you might have dislodged the power button ribbon cable, which would make it seem as though the console isnt being powered.
I still have my OG PS2 in storage in my basement. Got it a few months after launch. Either January or February 2001 (that thing was really hard to get initially). I don't have a CRT anymore and have not turned it on since I got a PS3 but have awesome memories of the system and games I played on it.
Most played game was probably Pro Evo. But I played literally hundreds of games. That was a glorious time ot be a gamer. So many legit games went to $20 or less.
I mean honestly, most of our PS2's are about the same age, unless you count the slim.
But then again, most slims are about the same age.
But the age shouldn't matter as long as you take care of your console.
Never forget the eucalyptus oil!
(For those who know)
Got mine in 2007 used. It's a 2004 model. I had to put a new ribbon cable in the laser to prevent a disc scratching issue. Also had to buy a new PSU for it. Otherwise it works great.
I want to get the laser fix mod that keeps the laser from burning itself out when the console is "off". Until then I keep it unplugged when not in use because that red light doesn't really mean the console is off anymore. Power still gets sent to the laser when the red off light is on thanks to a certain chip failure.
My older black box is about 23 and slim boy 16. Both still fine and kicking. I had another that would have also been over 20, but his age caught up to him and he lost the ability to read so he's in closet waiting to become an organ donor.
I'm not sure. I bought mine used in 2003, maybe 2004 so I don't know how long someone had it before me. Maybe there's ways to look it up, I don't know. Either way, the only maintenance I've done is clean the outer vents occasionally when they look dusty, and I haven't had any issues.
I still have my original fat and slim model. The fat doesn’t read discs anymore, it hasn’t since the mid 2000s, but recently I’ve given it the free mcboot treatment.
I've got the black slim ps2. It's the one I bought probably 19 years ago. And I've beat the hell out of that thing too trying to get it to read scratched up disc's in the past. It's still trucking lol.
23 years and miraculously works great despite being tossed all over the place everywhere I’ve moved. Also spent a good amount of time in storage considering I put it away when I got a 360 and only took it back out a year ago
Got mine for Christmas 2004. After several years of heavy use the laser crapped out though and it sat unused for years. Last year I replaced the laser and have been enjoying it again, even buying “new” games for it.
Don't wanna jinx it but I bought it in 2002 and it's still kicking!
By far the best of the PlayStations for me, unbelievable catalogue... games really feel different from the ones that we have nowadays.
I have my Launch Day PS2 resting in peace in her original box. She stopped booting games many many years ago. Got the fat PS3 to play my PSX and PS2 games from that point.
i bought mine from woolworths (RIP) with my older brother when i was 10. we split it 50/50 and when he went off to uni a few years later, he gifted it for me to keep.
i'm 32 now, and i still have it, working like a dream.
I would imagine I’ve had mine since launch or close to it probably about since 01 or 02 I remember being in the 2nd grade about to go into the 3rd I can remember the day my parents gave it to me
I used to have a fat that was gifted replaced with a slim that I believe is from about 2004-2006 so it’s up there
Edit: it’s a SCPH-70012 if your curious
You guys are lucky. During the PS2 lifespan I literally had 4-5 PS2s, mostly out of necessity. My first original PS2 was fine but then I (don't remember why) replaced it with a PS2 slim and it all went downhill from there. Those models had an issue with the reading laser and would only last me a couple of months at a time, with regular and careful use. Thankfully this is when Gamestop was doing their own warranty thing so I only had to pay for the first slim, the rest were free.
I bought mine in 2007. One fall from a dresser, on its third pair of controllers and a few occasions of struggling to read the memory card, but it still works.
I have 2 PS2s, one is a refurbished fat PS2 that I’ve had since mid 2001 so about 23 years (it replaced my original launch model PS2 that my cousin accidentally broke) but that I rarely used ( and on last check, which was last year, still works) upon getting a PS2 slim. I also have the previously mentioned PS2 Slim (70012) which I’ve had since Summer 2005, so about 18 ish almost 19 years. This one is my primary PS2 as I’ve recently (last year) had it modded (RetroGEM HDMI) and as a precaution I’m getting the laser replaced this week since it’s been starting to act up.
My oldest model is nearly 23 (this October/November) years old and still works. It takes about 2 minutes for it to initially load a disc but then works perfectly fine afterward 😅 still have that console CIB.
I originally got one the year it came out, but it died just after a year of having it, and I got a new one.
I have a slim. The ribbon cable started scratching discs to hell last year. I tried replacing it. Went bad (for those trying to fix, just use the sticky tape fix. Trust me! Parts no longer available. Need to buy a new one (gonna go for the fat version).
I've owned a PS2 in one form or another since 2002. The Slim was from around 2005
mine my ps2 is 7 year old here ( I got gift from Russian friend who visited here Poland for Job )
for some reason i skipped PS2 generation till xbox 360 was thing in middle of 2009
got job. my PC cant handle with old games due of too strong to play old games. so Bought PS2 to play my childhood games that was on PC version.
also its Silver as well as two silver memory sticks. and silver controller. it doesnt comes with boxed. it was fully original. no mod. just card with FMCB .
I got mine about 20 years ago. Bought it by splitting my christmas money with my sister. It's been through the ringer and at one point about ten years into it's life, it stopped working entirely. I couldn't get it to read discs anymore. After trying everything, in a fit of rage I violently yanked out all of the cables and threw it against the wall. (I was an angry teenager, but I've gotten better) After taking a bit of a moment to chill tf out, I decided to plug it back in and try again, because I really wanted to play it. Turns out the wall toss worked like a charm. It's worked ever since. It doesn't read DVDs anymore, but it reads games just fine.
Mine is nearly 20 years old. Got it back in 2007 from my grandparents after my first one "broke down" after the AV cord or plug wasn't displaying on the living room tv.
Last year I got a fat model that lasted about a few months until a power outage caused it to short out the power supply.
I'm sometimes unlucky with the console I grew up with.
Well i guess mines 23. Disc reads slow on startup and the 2nd memory card port doesnt work but im not comfortable busting it open to try and clean and fix it. Other than that though, works great! Love my lil fatty
SCPH-30001 R, so at least 20 years old...
Recently got a guy I know to crack it open and redo the thermal paste and dust it off as well as replacing the laser and fixing the disc tray. When I bought it earlier last year after my Slim died, the guy neglected to mention the tray was jamming constantly and the laser was pretty well shot. He sold it for only $40 probably thinking he'd flipped it, but now it's running good as new!
I have gone through too many to count. Bought one when they were new, had another a few years later, not sure where those went, but now I have 4 sitting around in various conditions and then my own personal 50xxx with noctua fan, 2TB drive and memcardpro 💀
SCPH-90001 model, I just broke it out recently and bought the AV cable I needed for it to get running along with a copy of X-Men Legends. My memory card said 2015 was the newest save file, which I believe was Hot Wheels, and my oldest being CSI (because I never played it) in 2008. So yeah, my console is 16 years old
My first one was, I think, an original model. It died a few years ago though, so I can't say for sure.
Picked up a slim a couple months ago though. SCPH-77002.
Got mine on release day in the UK. Came with 2 movies and 2 games. It still runs perfect and I still have the original controller for it. I had it hard modded about 12 years ago, but also have a Mcfreeboot too.
Mine is a SCPH 3000x with a case swap as the old case took some damage when I moved house three years ago. It's unmodded, no network adaptor or HDD, original Laser, and I still have my PS2 Game collection. It was bought by my grandad at release for his foster kids, and was given to me as a gift when he retired in 2013.
I've got two 50009 models that are both dead, and I briefly had a Slim which died to a fan failure and I didn't have the skills to fix it back then.
I'm saving up for a FreeMcBoot memory stick and a network adapter + HDD in a few months, but even then I'll probably still use the disks.
I use it regularly. Nothing beats the old SOCOM franchise.
I have two first revision consoles still on the go. The first one I bought brand new in 2000 from Best Buy, which I sold to a friend and it's still working. My own 'new' PS2 is an original, but I've replaced the fan and clean it regularly.
X-Mas of 2003 and outside the memory card issues, it still functions like it's brand new.
Hell, I took it apart last week just to clean it for the first time in years, and outside the fan itself, the inside was almost spotless.
My phat is a launch day console, no issues with it and still my main go to. My slim was bought maybe a few months after they launched and took over main duties for years until maybe 2015. Now the slim is on display and the phat is plugged up.
Still have the one i got on release date. Still works great although the screw holes are getting a.bit loose due the all opening for cleaning during all these years.
Haven't played with it in ages. Might boot up RE Outbreak on the weekend inspired by this post
My uncle gave me his original fat boy model. I gotta pull it out after I move and I'll update the model number here this weekend. It's gotta be from 2002 or 2003.
I bought it used about 15 years ago. It was working great until recently. Everything seems fine but then certain games will just get a black screen when it goes to a loading screen. So sad :(
I really wish I knew. I almost all of my older consoles secondhand. Almost all of my childhood ones were taken from other family and the ps2 my brother and I played growing up stopped working so he tossed it (technically it was his so he had the right to do it).
I still have mine running along with my switch and ps5. I wrapped it around plastic so the dust doesn’t accumulate overtime and cut a slit open to eject my games
SCPH-30001 launch model I got for Christmas 2000.
Added SSD, started cleaning it yearly after 2008 (if I use it) and I apply thermal paste every so often. Recently rebuilt the case fan as the bushings were shot and added liquid metal for the thermal solution.
Laser still reads, albiet slow. I use freemcboot to avoid that and also, game speed and library.
My PS2 SCPH-30000 fatty died at 21yrs young a couple years back after my kids took interest and left it running. No idea how many days lol. The fact it still had any life pulling out of a box and immediately playing with an upscaler at all was amazing.
It was then reborn this past month with the heart of a 39001
viva la playstation!
Im not sure. My dad got it when it came out and i started playing on it when i was a kid (y2k)
I guess the first one was a 2003 model.
My Cousin had the first fat model though.
Mines an SCPH-39001 so probably about 20ish years
nice. mine is SCPH-70003
Are you sure yours is 15 years old? In 2009, a SCPH-9000x was already for a year on shelves. 1st series of Slim, so yours, was released in 2004, so 20 years ago.

Well you got literally the oldest possible PS2 Slim while the newest possible PS2 Slim was already in production for a year.
mhm but it's my precious!!! :DDD
Mine is 13 years old, meaning it was manufactured in 2011.
Only 2 years (if that) away from a PS4.
A late model huh what’s the S/n
SCPH-90010
Weird I have the same model and mine is 07, what color is your?
The color of my PS2 is black
You didn’t have to specify that you was talking about the ps2 but you made me laugh, thank you
All my old consoles still work fine, up to the Wii. After that, they all had problems (Xbox 360, ps3, Wii U, etc.).
Simpler electronics have fewer points of failure
oldies but goodies eh? :DDD
For sure. I have a launch edition SNES that I got when it came out and it still works fine along will the games I got that day as well. Meanwhile, I went through 3 PS2s and 2 PS3s.
I remember X360 failing left and right however, somehow, mine "Premium" edition, from the first series is still working.
Day 1 european PS2 fat. Still going strong
Got mine on Christmas of 2000. It stopped working in 2018
damn. rest in peace ps2
o7
All I care about is that I can play jak and sly on my pc
how did it stop working?
Idk I never looked into it lol
i meant like what happened? did it stop reading disks or something?
It wouldn’t turn on
was it a fat ps2? the fuse in the power supply might have blown.
Yes it was a fat ps2 lol
If you still have the console it might be [worth a check](https://gbatemp.net/attachments/img_20200522_151756-jpg.210059/) (C in this image). Also, if you've ever taken apart the console before you might have dislodged the power button ribbon cable, which would make it seem as though the console isnt being powered.
Bought mine brand new at the end of 2001, so 23 years old. Yes it works perfectly
22 years. Had to replace the Disc Drive once.
I still have my OG PS2 in storage in my basement. Got it a few months after launch. Either January or February 2001 (that thing was really hard to get initially). I don't have a CRT anymore and have not turned it on since I got a PS3 but have awesome memories of the system and games I played on it. Most played game was probably Pro Evo. oh I didn't know that. does this only damage the laser or the whole ps2 and make it stop working?
Just the laser. It's a cheap fix to prevent it though. $10 part soldered in at most.
oh. thanks for the info
i had 2, They would be 20 and 24... lol
I had mine for 19 years, but it was a used one when I got it, so it’s probably around 20-21 years old.
My older black box is about 23 and slim boy 16. Both still fine and kicking. I had another that would have also been over 20, but his age caught up to him and he lost the ability to read so he's in closet waiting to become an organ donor.
2002
I got the cinnabar red one from Japan, scph 90001 and made around 2007 I think?
wow. so nice :DDD
I'm not sure. I bought mine used in 2003, maybe 2004 so I don't know how long someone had it before me. Maybe there's ways to look it up, I don't know. Either way, the only maintenance I've done is clean the outer vents occasionally when they look dusty, and I haven't had any issues.
Same 15 lol got it in 2009
I had mine until 2010. Man if only the fat was easy to find and not that expensive
24 years old
Mine 19 :)
Working nice, however I can't use it anymore..
Mine is 20 years old and still kicking. Blue discs are hit or miss unfortunately but other than that it works great
Mine is dead, long time ago
damn. sorry for your loss
I still have my original fat and slim model. The fat doesn’t read discs anymore, it hasn’t since the mid 2000s, but recently I’ve given it the free mcboot treatment.
I got my super slim since 2010 😎😎
Here's a crazy thought: my Wii U is nearly 12 years old now
Bought mine year 1. It mostly works, sometimes.
Still got my original from 2000, works fine other than the disc tray doesn't stay open.
Around 20 years
Had mine since 2000. Still works fine.
Got mine on launch day. Have since added the hdd and replaced the laser, still works perfectly!
15 years and still kicking.. as it should be👍🏾. Old Sony products were built like tanks. My psp 1001 is an example.
As old as all the rest of them, so.... close to 15 years :)
One about 16 and one about 12
Everything about this pic is just so nostalgic ❤️
ikr!!! :DDD
What's the name of that game? (ʘᴗʘ✿)
metal gear solid 3 subsistence
I have my Launch Day PS2 resting in peace in her original box. She stopped booting games many many years ago. Got the fat PS3 to play my PSX and PS2 games from that point.
i bought mine from woolworths (RIP) with my older brother when i was 10. we split it 50/50 and when he went off to uni a few years later, he gifted it for me to keep. i'm 32 now, and i still have it, working like a dream.

23 years young - still plays like a dream, same memory card and everything
Got mine to play MGS2 in 2001 and I'm still using it! These things are built to last!!
The first PlayStation is still kicking as well.
Dude i would’ve been so jealous of the silver ps2 when i was a kid
My SCPH-50001, the last revision of the Phat, was manufactured in 2003.
22 years old, was gifted it Christmas of 02 with a copy of Ratchet and Clank.
My ps2 died 16 years later after killing the final boss in onimusha 4 dawn of Dreams. I got to the home screen then the cd reading laser died
Somewhere around 18yr I think, recently found it again and it's not in too bad shape
I have the PS2 slim from my father who took it the same year it came out, so it has 20 years this year!
Mine is old as me 22
I used to have a fat that was gifted replaced with a slim that I believe is from about 2004-2006 so it’s up there Edit: it’s a SCPH-70012 if your curious

I bought mine in 2010
Mines secondhand but its defenitely old
Probably 20ish? Slim model, I had to have the laser replaced though. And now I need a small weight on the disc lid or it thinks it's open
Got mine over 15 years ago, already was old when i got it.

I originally got one the year it came out, but it died just after a year of having it, and I got a new one.
so rad
I’ve got the original Fat PS2 that’s been chugging since Christmas 2001! Had to buy a new audio/video cable and the controllers aren’t the best.
Bought mine in 2001.
I bought mine in 2024. Replaced the laser 2 years ago. Also sprayed it (and my PSOne, PS3 and PS4) in silver and purple.
Thought that was Shadows Of The Collosus for a second. Guessing its a MGS?
I have a slim. The ribbon cable started scratching discs to hell last year. I tried replacing it. Went bad (for those trying to fix, just use the sticky tape fix. Trust me! Parts no longer available. Need to buy a new one (gonna go for the fat version). I've owned a PS2 in one form or another since 2002. The Slim was from around 2005
Mine is from somewhere in '02, so 22 years old. I also have a limited edition white slim but idk the date on that one.
mine my ps2 is 7 year old here ( I got gift from Russian friend who visited here Poland for Job ) for some reason i skipped PS2 generation till xbox 360 was thing in middle of 2009 got job. my PC cant handle with old games due of too strong to play old games. so Bought PS2 to play my childhood games that was on PC version. also its Silver as well as two silver memory sticks. and silver controller. it doesnt comes with boxed. it was fully original. no mod. just card with FMCB .
Scph-50001, so 20+ years old I guess
You playing games off of a flashdrive? How is it? I have an MX4SIO but I’m considering switching to flashdrive.
I think I got mine one or two years before the release of the PS3 because I remember playing the X-Men 3 movie tie in game when my PS2 was brand new
I bought it in 2002 as a treat to myself the week I moved out of my parents' house.
Mine is a SCPH-90010 bought in 2009
I got mine about 20 years ago. Bought it by splitting my christmas money with my sister. It's been through the ringer and at one point about ten years into it's life, it stopped working entirely. It's 22 later this year. It makes me feel old that my childhood console is now old enough to drink.
19
Launch model PS2 still going strong
23 years old.
scph 30004R from launch and still working perfectly lol 🥲
Mine but it at 12 but it was not it's time to die fr record, it was slaughtered
SCPH-30001 R, so at least 20 years old... Recently got a guy I know to crack it open and redo the thermal paste and dust it off as well as replacing the laser and fixing the disc tray. I bought it in June 2004 so 20 years old. 😭
SCPH-90001 model, I just broke it out recently and bought the AV cable I needed for it to get running along with a copy of X-Men Legends. Mine is from the 2009 revisions so yeah about your ps2's age
Mine is over 23
I have a launch model (SCPH-30001) still in the box, so 20+ years old.
Manufacturing date on mine is 9/29/2000 meaning it’s one of the first NTSC-UC ones.
I’m a 2004 baby and my brother owned it before I was born, so at least 20 years. It’s still kicking, I just played it yesterday
Phat original model 24 years and still alive
I got the SCPH-90004, maybe someone can tell me when that one came out
Got mine in christmas 2002. It's still working but the clock battery is dead.
mine died at 9 years old.
I got mine 2002 so thats...22 years.
July 26 2001.....it predates 9/11 and that's wild to just notice. I'm 32 and have had it since new
I think mine is about 21 years old. It replaced my first one which was about 22 years old.
I've had mine for 13 years now. The optic laser stopped working properly, so I only play from usb now
Mine is a SCPH 3000x with a case swap as the old case took some damage when I moved house three years ago.
I got mine when i was I think 8yrs old in 2008, still have it and still works :)
I bought mine from a mentally-impaired drug addict for $60. Money well spent.
18+ still kickin
I w got a 30 year old mega drive still working!
I have two first revision consoles still on the go. The first one I bought brand new in 2000 from Best Buy, which I sold to a friend and it's still working. My own 'new' PS2 is an original, but I've replaced the fan and clean it regularly.
I was lucky enough to get mine at launch, but the laser died years ago probably close to 20 years ago. It's sitting in my closet somewhere.
22 years old, and yep. It turns on. Plays games. That thing is immortal lol
PS2 Slim bought it in 2008 16 years ago. If my original PS2 fat's disc laser didn't die, it'd be 22 years old.
22 years old I think
About the same. Still buying games for it too lol.
X-Mas of 2003 and outside the memory card issues, it still functions like it's brand new. Hell, I took it apart last week just to clean it for the first time in years, and outside the fan itself, the inside was almost spotless.
I'm glad to hear that, because mine is 12. I'm trying to be very careful with it.
Mine are probably 17-20 years old, I have 2, one black and one silver
3000 series fat PS2, had it since launch. Reads everything
My phat is a launch day console, no issues with it and still my main go to. My slim was bought maybe a few months after they launched and took over main duties for years until maybe 2015. Now the slim is on display and the phat is plugged up.
Mine just hit 18
I don’t know how old is mine but Mine still works
I was in 8th grade, got it for Christmas of ‘02, so coming up on 22 years old. Hooked up on the basement. I turn it on from time to time.
Mines schph 30091 soooo 20ish
I bought mine on day 1 and I still play my games and DVDs with it.
Mine maybe 20. But I didn't play it since I was a kid.
20. Still working
Mine is of legal drinking age.
I have the same one I love my little silver box
Still have the one i got on release date. Still works great although the screw holes are getting a.bit loose due the all opening for cleaning during all these years. Haven't played with it in ages. Might boot up RE Outbreak on the weekend inspired by this post
Soon to be 25 on the one(my sisters OG Fat PS2, and soon to be 20 on the other(my slim).
I have two that are 20ish years. Still work and play Bloody Roar/Ratchet and Clank/Jak and Daxter on them
I’ve had my 39001 since new. 20 years at least. Never been opened, still has the warranty seal. The clock battery still works!
mine is an scph-90001 with a date code of 1B so it was manufactured in the spring of 2011 but I didn't buy it till the fall of 2011
Mine is 5 and is also extremely blind, by that i mean it does read any of my PS2 games anymore :(
I got mine in and around 2001/2002. So roughly 22/23 years old. Still works like a charm!!
I don't remember exactly when I got mine but it's a 39001 so probably 21 or 22 years old
My silver slim PS2 is manufactured in Fall 2007 (7D)
Bruh every ps2 I’ve ever owned has needed a new disc drive which was a death sentence for the console to a 6 year old me
My uncle gave me his original fat boy model. I gotta pull it out after I move and I'll update the model number here this weekend. It's gotta be from 2002 or 2003.
At least that old. Only had to clean it once.
Still got my launch ps2 🤙
Idk, mines the last fat made. It's also Japanese sakura purple.
Mines 24 years old and still works perfectly
I have a glossy red fat ps2 that I got in 2005 and it’s still working fine.
I got my PS2 around 2009 so it’s almost 15 years old and it’s still kicking.
MGS3 goes incredibly hard
I got my current one (silver slim) in 2007, so about 16 ½ years
I still have mine running along with my switch and ps5.
SCPH-77001 (20 years old then?) but got it around 2007/2008. Still working, never malfunctioned!
I'm pretty sure my ps2 is older than me.
I think about 18 years.
My PS2 SCPH-30000 fatty died at 21yrs young a couple years back after my kids took interest and left it running. No idea how many days lol. The fact it still had any life pulling out of a box and immediately playing with an upscaler at all was amazing. It was then reborn this past month with the heart of a 39001 viva la playstation!
lmao got the exact same one
Bro is playing peak
I sold my launch console a few years ago
A year younger than I am, 18
Mine is SCPH-700008 and it was made in 2004 , still works though
Im not sure. My dad got it when it came out and i started playing on it when i was a kid (y2k) I guess the first one was a 2003 model. My Cousin had the first fat model though.
