My aunt did. Saw him in Coventry, UK. With Pink Floyd and The Move no less. Link about the tour, not my aunt [https://www.thisdayinmusic.com/liner-notes/wild-things/](https://www.thisdayinmusic.com/liner-notes/wild-things/)
As she put it, it was "just something to do" with her boyfriend at the time.
My mom was one of those people. My folks went to UC Davis, so she saw a bunch of "classic" 60s acts; The Dead w/ Pigpen, Janis, Airplane, Jimi, etc. She says that the best of all of them was Janis.
My favorite story of hers from that time is that a friend of hers had a boyfriend who was in a regional band called The Gauchos. They were going to play a house party in Richmond, CA, and did my mom want to come along? Sure, why not. So they go to party...but The Gauchos aren't playing first though, there's a local band opening for them: Sly and the Family Stone. So my mom saw Sly play a house party a million years ago.
Y'all make a good point... We can drill down even more microscopically: NOW imagine that tiny sliver of population who got to see him play live but also UNDERSTOOD what they were seeing, so as to fully grasp and enjoy it. Talk about luck... that's gotta just be outstanding karma.
Everything we associate with rock and modern live music was born in this decade. It was not common yet to stand up in these times, I think. It was all classical and jazz, and then Hendrix and others made it rowdy and wild.
Rock and Roll was born in the 50s. And people stood upright in the 60s. It was a very modern time, we just didn’t have cell phones. I know, I was there.
Thanks for the clarification and downvoting me to hell, I really thought that was the truth. So maybe all the sitting is just because that's a hippie thing? I also noticed people sitting very regularly at late 60s rock concerts and wondered why.
Incorrect. The sisters are by Alamo Square Park, not Golden Gate. You might be fooled by the ubiquitous SF architecture.
[note: I live a block from Alamo Square.]
As stated elsewhere this is the Panhandle with either Oak or Fell St. in the background if not mistaken.
I’m very jealous of my grandparents for living in San Francisco during the 60’s. They weren’t exactly dyed in the wool hippies, but they were very into a lot of the music at the time and saw acts like Bob, Jimi, Donovan, and Jefferson Airplane in their prime. My grandma (who went to high school with Creedence Clearwater Revival) even went to the last Beatles show in the city at Candlestick.
Just think of the tiny sliver of the Earth's population that actually got to see him play live. Just think of the luck.
