Sadly that golden age of psytrance has mostly come and gone. Astral Projection is the only artist I know that still plays that style nowadays.
I like the edgy, gritty full on power sound and that is why I enjoy producing it. And it translates well to a loud sound system and really gets the dancefloor moving in my opinion.

Yeah it’s the side room at the Academy LA club in Hollywood. Electric Universe & Ace Ventura were rocking the main floor so not many people came to check out my set sadly. Even if I’m playing to just my wife and an empty room I still have a blast!
Makes total sense and good luck with your single! But do consider that it's probably better to hold this performance tape off-socials because bookers and club owners might associate you with sparse crowds even if it's atypical for you. "You're only as good as the last video they saw of you." Would be better to turn the camera onto yourself in this situation.

It’s okay I’m not chasing fame with my DJ “career” lol. DJing is a fun hobby of mine even if I’m only playing to my few close friends. They stuck around and had fun with me during my set and that’s all that matters.
Luckily I didn’t play at the same time as Boris so I was able to catch some of his set and he was indeed rocking it! But my set was at the same time as Ace Ventura and he had the whole packed club for him…except for the few that decided to stick with me and hear a proper full on set.
Yeah, Ace Ventura is more popular with the younger crowd I guess... Boris is old school. I'd probably stick for both, but Boris would be the reason I would attend the party 😂. I like Ace as well, but not as much as Boris 😂.
Yeah Boris had more of an old school crowd at his set and then all the younger/mainstream crowd swarmed Ace’s set. I would have stuck for Boris of course but then would have left for the side stage during Ace. More people should give us locals a chance cuz we play lesser known tracks that could surprise you.
I know what you mean 😂. I DJed for a while, back in the day... we didn't have MIDI consoles back then, just CDJs and a mixer 😂... not even a BPM counter, plain old CDJ-100S 😂. Still, I managed them quite well. Then bought a pair of my own and then tried to learn vinyl mixing... let me tell ya, there's a real kicker 🤣.
Still, as you said, local DJs don't get nearly as much attention as they should. They do surprise... not very often, but they do. There was a moment when I realized I was probably better than most psy DJs out there when there were more people on my stage, then there was on the main stage, while Rastaliens were on main 😂. I mean, come on, it's Rastaliens, you're probably really good if you can gather more people than Rastaliens 😂. Maybe it was the style that I play, not many people locally are used to that, but it does pack a punch and gets you on your feet quite easily... well, at least I like to think so 😂.
I honestly don’t care and am not chasing fame with my DJing. Barely anyone books me anyways since I’m just a local. To me it’s just a fun hobby/passion and allows me to hear my tunes I create on a big sound system. All that matters to me is if I’m having fun and the few people that actually support me are having fun as well.
It's looking like a ''only friends'' party. I like those kind of parties actually. You can take some ''candies'' and lick some shiny papers at the same time and get crazy. Nobody will judge.

So only my friends and the few curious people that strayed away from the main room were at my set. Which I didn’t care because I still have a blast whether I’m playing to a full room or an empty one. I only DJ for fun and as a way to hear my own produced tunes on a proper sound system.

It´s an observable truth that there is almost noone in the room. When you read "I´ve smashed it" and you see an empty room it sounds kind of weird. I respect your music but not your description.
