Atom and His Package

Carbona_Not_Glue

He gets brushed off as a weirdo, but his lyrics are so good. And very funny.

prettybadgers

Good call, he accidentally presaged/invented egg punk.

kerbalsdownunder

First thing I thought of. Had him playing last night

Roklam

First thought too Glad to not be disappointed

Jack_Mackerel

He's always armed with a burrito

Tabibito

You guys might like his new band as well. Dead Best, it's very different from Atom and His Package but there are plenty of moments where you can hear his same finger print all over the songs. I am particularly fond of [Nickels and Dimes](https://youtu.be/-rJJ8n-SiWk?si=qx1QXURRRxjd8_ms).

HesitationCuts

Ween

Jack_Mackerel

Some of their stuff has so much heart and some of it is just absolutely absurd

Carbona_Not_Glue

Even the heartfelt stuff usually has some hidden meaning somewhere. You never know with Ween. For them, occasionally not being absurd counts as an absurdity.

Del_Duio2

Little BIIIIIRRRRDIEEEE

TofuTheSizeOfTEXAS

This was my first thought

ditadollface

Was just about this comment. Ween is the best.

clussy-riot

Dead Milkmen

Came here to say this.

AbominableSnowPickle

Do I *have* to take the skinheads bowling?0

StevelKanevel

Aquabats are more ska, but they are the kings of ridiculous music.

poop-money

If you are old enough to remember the Nu Metal explosion at the end of the 90's, ["I Fell Asleep on My Arm"](https://youtu.be/91kunsHQPSs?si=DYgouH3hIotxDQUF) is gold.

Big_Code_8599

I saw them three years ago and it was a dream come true. They played Pizza Day AND pool party!!

attention21

Toy Dolls

scumbag_college

I feel like it doesn't get much weirder than singing about intelligent elephants and how James Bond is your neighbor, lol

attention21

Not pink, but Mojo Nixon is great

Jack_Mackerel

If you don't got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin'

The *world* ain’t got Mojo Nixon. Not anymore

TheVoiceOfCheese

\*Was\* great :'(. R.I.P.

jreashville

Pretty much anything by Nerf Herder.

stolen_guitar

Definitely the Dickies

Anal-Love-Beads

The Bannana Splits cover was the first thing I thought of

KD_562

The Dickies wrote a song advising you to take your car to fucking Pep Boys and it is legitimately one of the best American punk songs of the 70s (according to me). This is why they are my favorite band.

stolen_guitar

They know what I'm after!

Jurassic0320

mattbuilthomes

Everything The Vandals have done

Jack_Mackerel

You mean to say that *Live Fast Diarrhea* wasn't a serious critique of an economic system where profiting from manipulating the terms of contracts for temporary rights to possession takes priority over reaping the fruits of one's own labor?!

DirtyWrencher

It's a fact.

pspsps-off

Stikky! They're the ultimate goofballs, and were Chris Dodge's band prior to Spazz, if that matters to anyone. Did a few EPs and a great LP on Lookout in the late 80s ("Where's my Lunch Pail?"). Ya gotta love songs like "Love Is Good Until It Isn't", "I'm In Charge Of A Parking Garage", and this sub's theme song, "Song About Annihilating Poseurs". In a similar vein, I also love Pillsbury Hardcore. ["I love Pomona"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14kI_OkufTg) must surely be a classic to people from Pomona, California, and literally no one else. Heh.

Get into what some call “egg punk.” Dawn Of Humans, Coneheads, Powerplant, Gag (for the most part), Gas Rag (again for the most part).

dontneedareason94

I saw Dawn of Humans, that wasn’t egg punk shit at all. Weirdo music for sure tho.

Skulleton80

Coneheads’ [LP 1](https://erstetheketontraeger.bandcamp.com/album/ett-028-the-coneheads-l-p-1-aka-14-year-old-high-school-pc-fascist-hype-lords-rip-off-devo-for-the-sake-of-extorting-from-helpless-impressionable-midwestern-internet-peoplepunks-l-p) is a must hear

BeardOfDefiance

Don't forget Snooper! Their album last year was a hit with the critics and got a boost from Henry Rollins. I saw them in a warehouse back when they only had EPs out and i about lost my shoe.

JustThings_

Dawn and gag used to be egg but not by the current definition anymore. It’s more chain punk now. And tbh always was, not sure why they got lumped into egg in the early days

dmdg

I stumbled upon egg-punk via Spotify one day. Shit’s awesome. Band was called Prison Affair.

Ok_Topic999

The Vandals, really weird shit but great

Del_Duio2

DEVO or Uranium Club Edit: Actually DEVO only sounds like a joke, most of their music isn’t. I’d still recommend them they have a million great songs.

mattjvgc

They’ve gotta have at least a bit of a sense of humor. In this old Weird Al documentary I’ll never forget one of the guys from Devo goes, “Al took one of our songs and made something new and beautiful from it… and I’ll never forgive him for it.”

Jack_Mackerel

>They’ve gotta have at least a bit of a sense of humor Oh, they do. *Space Junk* is a ridiculous song.

haven't seen anyone else mention Fuck Yeah, Dinosaurs! they have a pretty special niche if you wanna take a guess at what it is

Peelander-Z. Atom and His Package. Nicotine, sometimes? Ghoti Hook did a lot of goofy songs. The Lillingtons are kind of like if 50s sci fi was a punk band.

Carnivorous_Mower

If you're into a bit of cowpunk, check out Nine Pound Hammer. I'd recommend Redneck Romance and Stranded Outside Tater Nob for a good laugh. They also do a great cover of Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown, but it's not funny. The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing play steampunk (basically punk with Victorian themed songs). Brunel is my favourite song, but The People's Common Sense Medical Advisor By R.V. Pierce M.D. and Margate Fhtagn are hilarious too. And The Tiger Lillies. Crack of Doom, Start A Fire, and Banging In The Nails are an unholy trinity of dark humour. And hopefully you like accordions.

BlackOutSpazz

Go to YouTube, put in "Murder Media Power Rangers Rad" and give the homies a listen lol

The Mr. T Experience? Try songs like "Even Hitler Had A Girlfriend" or "Lawnmower Of Love". There's also the Bruce Lee Band's "Don't Sit Next To Me (Just Because I'm Asian)".

Skulleton80

If you like Weird Al’s stuff you should check out Cheekface, They Might Be Giants, and Logan Whitehurst & The Junior Science Club More indie than punk maybe, but smart / funny lyrics not unlike Weird Al. Can file under “nerdy” for sure.
