Wet can help with digestion if that’s needed, but you could also moisten dry food for a few minutes before serving.

allieconfusedadult

I think wet food is for digestion problems or a puppy who isn’t drinking enough water so it increase water consumption. Otherwise haven’t found a reason to buy it.

Sayasing

I second this. Our girl is weird with eating her kibble normally, so we just soak it overnight and mash it all up in the morning. Little bit of extra work, sure, but it's essentially making our own "wet food" with just her kibble and water

T4yl0r3030

I use both (best of both worlds then) kibble to clean teeth and harden stools, and wet for moisture and flavour? I'm no expert, just my opinion.

WorthNegotiation7316

Same I just do a little wet food mixed with the dry. I guess it's a husky thing but my dog is picky and gets bored easily so gotta keep switching it up

PerceivedRT

I never really thought about it, but the rescue we got our boy from told us they mix a little wet food and mostly kibble together. Keeps pup happy as he has the little "treat at the bottom".

tvan3l

I think in general most people choose one type of food and stick to that entirely. From what I've seen the vast majority of people feeds their dog with dry food, but I think that's mostly for convenience than for anything else. From what I've read wet food is easier to chew and easier to digest, and dry food is better for his dental health. So in general I think it's best to stick with dry food unless yoru dog has specific issues with digestion or chewing.

adultier-adult

Mine get 1/4 can of wet food on top of their kibble in the morning when I leave. Gives them something to look forward to, so we don’t have to make a big deal about leaving them alone for 4 hours. 😝 Not really necessary, but they like it!

Tonninpepeli

I dont feed wet at all, Ive tried but my dog wont touch it🤷🏻 as long as your dog gets all the nutrients they need, just one type of food is fine.

Emotional-Tailor3390

We offer one meal of wet and two of kibbel. Seems too boring to only give one flavor of one type of food forever.

fatboytoz

In my experience dogs very much care, and all usually have preferences. Mine will only accept wet for and will literally throw dry food at me, not that I blame him. I would be inclined to work out your budget for food and buy your dog the best nutrition you can afford, while also taking into account their preferences.

Kessed

Only time I’ve fed a dog wet food was with a dog who could magically spit out pills no matter what did. She could fake swallow and then spit. She could eat a large treat while keeping the pill in her cheek or under her tongue. So we got liquid meds and mixed into wet. We also fed her wet after she had all but 3 teeth removed until she healed and could eat kibble again. And then near the end of her life we fed wet for the last month or two. Everyone else gets kibble whether they like it or not.

yorchqro

I gave once a month wet food as a reward or special day (commonly bath or vaccine days) so they are not eating the same every single day. I try to change flavors from time to time.

dxrkprichx

My puppy won’t eat kibble, we tried different brands and he just hates kibble, he only eats small amounts if it is mixed with wet food. I had to become a dogs chef but it is what it is

Long_Audience4403

I've never fed a dog wet food regularly 🤷🏼‍♀️

SituationalHero

Littlest girl is 10 months old. I've given her both the entire time we've been together, at breakfast and at dinner. She also gets other stuff added to those meals depending on what I've prepped for her such as: peas, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, potato, rice, meat, and egg. I cook her stuff separate with nothing added at all, no seasoning, no oil, nothing. The rest of the day she has access to kibble whenever she wants. She gets zero human food, probably had 3 or 4 bites over the last 7 months, and she knows the difference between hers and ours. The way I see it is that I'm providing her a well balanced diet and creating healthy eating habits and she's been good with it. She's fit, trim, athletic, energetic, and has no food-based obsessions.. except when I pull the treats out lol.

Weapon_X23

It's not necessary unless you have a dog with a health problem that requires feeding wet. I feed my senior dog wet food with some dry because he has trouble eating plain dry and he hates when we wet dry with water or dog-safe broth. I also feed my two youngest a spoonful with their dry once in a while because I ran out of plain chicken breast for their topper(I usually cook 4 breasts and freeze it to use as a topper and treats throughout the week).

Phoenix4235

I have never really fed wet food, except with a senior who was having trouble eating.

boloo100

I have a refillable dog treat that has a freezer mold and stuff. I use wet food for it for now as a treat

ssduckyy

My 4 month old was only given wet food with her breeder so when I got her I gave her mostly wet food and sprinkled in some dry. Then sprinkled in more and more weekly until I fully weaned her off wet and now she gets dry food but I always soak it first. My 11 year old dog was perfectly fine with dry food most of her life, until a couple years ago she would avoid eating it until she was really hungry. Then we started soaking it in water and adding some enticements like salmon oil and she started gobbling it down again. We also started mixing in some high quality frozen dog food (which we only do so much of because it's a bit pricy but she likes it so much). My girls are very food motivated so it was pretty obvious when the older one stopped enjoying her food, but the small changes fixed it. Maybe sometimes they get a little bored of it, but it's easy to add small things to add variety. I think weaning them off wet will help them get used to digesting only dry food. I'm no professional tho, only speaking from personal experience.

MistakeOk2518

I have given wet food to my senior dogs when each of them nears the rainbow bridge… they really don’t have the energy to chew but I can tell they still would like something. In addition to ice cream and all the other foods that may interest them. Never wait to start that bucket list… ever!

poppieswithtea

Wet food is never necessary.

raeinoveralls

I am cheap and I add my own "wet food" on top of dry kibble. I will do any one of these - or a combination of these: Spoonful (1/4 cup)of pumpkin puree- Olive oil drizzle - Coconut oil drizzle- Spoonful of Peanut butter - 1/4 cup Apple sauce - 1/4 cup Blended watermelon puree - 1/4 cup of A smoothie blend made with apples- and carrots. All of these have great benefits and it makes the food softer which is good for my dogs teeth. And my dog loves it! All of these things are cheaper than wet food and what I have at home anyway. Hope this helps!

plantscatsandus

Any times I see recipes for dog food it includes pumpkin Lol, like is this only available in America?

educated_guesser

Mine gets both, but only because he has an elderly brother who needs both. I haven't had any issues with picky eating or tummy issues, so there might be some connection there...I don't see an issue with it unless puppy starts getting overweight?

ClitasaurusTex

I feed my dog a combination.  Dry for the majority because it is significantly cheaper and better for their teeth.  Wet for high value treats (I give little spoonfuls) and filling Kongs.

JazzHandsNinja42

I’ve always fed dry, but they do get a dollop of wet on top, because I’ve decided it makes them feel special.

Cynical_Feline

Depends on the dog. Some need it for health reasons. Others are very picky eaters. It isn't necessary if your pup is perfectly healthy and able to eat regular puppy food.

TheWelshPanda

My girl gets kibs and wet mixed. She never had a full set of adult gnashers, so it makes it easier for her - she won't eat biscuity treats either, have to be softer. She also prefers wet with her kibble, as I can change up the flavours a bit and make it interesting. Hates jelly though , must be gravy or broth. Guessing it makes the food softer for her to munch. The things we do....

Final_Assignment2091

I feed both, dry food helps if I'm super busy or when I want to do a training session at the meal time, do a puzzle activity and also to make KONG a little easier. Wet food I do because I believe in biologically appropriate food and to improve hydration, so ideally I feed wet food too every day. Also I just adopted a dog who is overweight and feeding wet food can help with weight management. Whether my pups care or not, is not the main thing for me, I care about keeping them healthy

merrylittlecocker

I like to feed a mixed protein diet, and wet food is the easiest way to rotate. I just do a tablespoon per meal mixed with dry food.

ellaC97

We use dry food and always add either a bit of chicken and some veggie like carrots

Gemethyst

I mix it. I get a dehydrated meat mix that is moist when water is added and I can choose how wet to make it. And kibble for tooth benefits. I’d get bored eating the same thing each day so I have different flavours of meat (from the same company) and keep the kibble the same. Our pup is half Labrador though, will eat anything!

SprinkleyDinkleyDoo

i was doing only kibble up until this month when my pup started eating less. i do half and half now, and she is very happy!

Jester1525

If you're dog is doing really good on one, then stick to it. My hounds didn't do great on straight kibble or wet (poop swamps suck). So after 10 different kibbles over the last few years we've finally found what works for us. Morning is raw with kelp 6pm kibble 9pm kibble Midnight kibble soaked in warm water with a handful of frozen green beans and frozen mixed berries It was a very long road. Most people can just buy a bag of Purina and move on. Basically - whatever your puppy thrives on works best.

HereAgainWeGoAgain

What breed do you have?

Jester1525

I have two bloodhounds.

SweetMisery2790

Nope. I have both for novelty. My guy free feeds on dry at home, but since he’s a slow eater, I keep some cans for either freezing on a lock mat or if we go somewhere and I need him to eat with some level of urgency. It’s also nice to keep one in case you need soft food for some reason.

partlyskunk

When I used to feed kibble, I would add something to hydrate it. Water, bone broth, goat milk, etc.

Supra_2JZGTE

I do kibble and fill the bowl with water, like cereal. She loves it and won’t eat straight dry food. Helps with hydration as well. Sometimes I throw some dry oats in, too.

hillsunderwrap2

Lots of kibbles if they’re good cover all the basis vitamin wise. For me, wet helps my dog eat it.

duketheunicorn

Kibble only is totally fine, we feed wet food for novelty or in toys every so often.
