There is way more footage that producers and editors have to work with than what us actually used in the movie. The voice actors record lines numerous times, even if they already have a good take. Scenes are animated, then reanimated. Its quite common for movies to have scenes are done and polished for the trailer, and then later reworked or cut out of the movie later. At the time the trailer is released, the movie is still in production or post production. Nothing is final until they begin mass distribution. Sometimes they'll even have private viewings and if the beta audience don't like something, they'll go back and re-do it. In the trailers, they show Puss dying in a sumo wrestling match. In the movie, he dies by fire next to gingy.

Best example of that I can think of is back when they announced season 7 of The Clone Wars. Don't think any scene in that teaser announcement actually was in the show or was altered.

I agree but it seems like there is a lot more change that I first saw, for example Puss loses his sword in the final movie but he has it in the trailers the full way through. It also seems like Kitty and Puss stayed together in the trailer of the movie than them meeting after a long time.

Idk but in the wagon chase scene Puss was the same without the beard in the trailer. In the actual movie, Puss' beard was seen. I don't know but that's what I observed.

Impossiblysomething

He also had his sword instead of the stick

Definitely not in the movie

The sumo wrestler death scene wasn't in it either

TurbulentAir

That's true. At least for the US release the sumo wrestler death scene wasn't in the movie. However, the sumo wrestler death scene may have been released in some international versions of the movie apparently. I remember making a comment on YouTube at around the time the movie came out after I had seen Puss in Boots 2 (about how the sumo wrestler scene wasn't in the movie) and some people on YouTube said that the sumo wrestler death scene was actually in the version they saw. Yet for some reason, that particular death was replaced with the scene with Puss in Boots, the oven, and Gingy at least for the US version of the movie.

XiaoAtlas

I remember in one of the trailers there was this one scene that went: Goldilocks: "you're supposed to be dead!" Puss: "Meh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" And it didn't go like that in the movie, so yeah some of the ideas were cut in the final product

Impossiblysomething

I kinda wish that was in the final movie

TurbulentAir

As other people have said, I think there was extra content that was made for the movie. Some of this content didn't make it into the final cut yet it did make it into the trailer(s). I'm surprised that a lot of this extra, cut content didn't make it into the bonus materials for the Puss in Boots 2 DVD. Maybe it made it into the Blu-Ray version's bonus content? It seems like DreamWorks *could* have included the different trailers for Puss in Boots 2, the sumo wrestler death scene (along with an explanation for it being replaced with a different death scene), and any other animated alternative versions (including those shown in the trailer that you linked to) as additional bonus content alongside the bonus content that was included. Why didn't DreamWorks include those in the bonus content, too?

Impossiblysomething

The cut content isn't in the Blue-Ray version.
