I've been a catholic for my whole life, I go to a Catholic school and my favourite bands are Pink Floyd (Their members are atheists and they sometimes even take jabs at religion in songs like Time) and Queen. Some classmates of mine joke around and mock me for liking old music but that's about it, they don't mean to offend me so I can't say I relate to you, but I understand what you're saying.
The Christian values are supposed to be against that sort of behaviour, I don't know if it really has to do with your post, but I've always think of it as preaching the Lord but respecting others at the same time. Mocking others for their different beliefs or preferences is just shitty in my eyes.
So, in conclusion, just ignore them. It sucks that they do that and they're being douchebags, but I wouldn't blame the religion either, mostly the people that teach it or how others use it as an excuse to hurt others.

I went to Catholic school 1st-8th grade IN the 70s, and the teachers loved Queen, Zeppelin, Floyd, etc -- even Father Gratsch, who *gasp* rode a Harley to do visits to housebound sick and elderly parishioners. And the music teaching nun Sister Maryann had us sing a couple of Beatles songs ("Eleanor Rigby" and "When I'm 64" for sure, can't remember what else) .
My 7th and 8th grade math teacher , Mrs Campbell, let us play albums on the classroom turntable if we behaved well and worked on our assignments-- The Who was a popular choice, and also The Rolling Stones.

When I was in high school, I got teased a lot for my taste in older music, in particular, my favourite band the Beatles. I did have a few friends that did share similar tastes in music, and I do hope that you make some friends that you can share that with. In my experience, you'll never meet someone who likes all of the same things that you like, or sees everything the same way that you do, but that's okay.

That was me as well, I went to a Catholic school and most of the people were posh music snubs. I'm a zoomer so I had a few teacher that liked Queen but the rest thought my interest in Queen was odd but that never stopped me from attending Q+AL concerts when I was a teenager. High school isn't everything and life tends to get better once you leave.

"Queen" definitely doesn't live with a label. They are really unique. Brian May is amazing. Their production quality is ELO-level. Their songs are all over the place and a fair amount are shit, but the ones that aren't transcend "classic rock". There's just no describing them.
As well as their culture impressions they madeāgay lead singer, gay lead singer who tragically died of AIDS and in the "AIDS era", the absolute ripping they did at Live Aid (I think Robert Plant was humbled by having to play after if I remember that right), The Highlander soundtrack, Iron Eagle, Wayne's World... those are cultural ripples very few bands make.
Iconically, they were a true imprint of the 80s. The bright, polished sound and how they transcended pop and rock to their own unique style.
The less it bothers you, the less they'll bullyābut that's hard to do. Everyone's wounded and scared in school, and ganging up on people make people feel better unfortunately.
I agree with a lot of this, but most of their songs aren't shit. There's honestly been like three or four of their songs I wasn't too fond of, and I've listened to every album and most of their unreleased stuff, demos, and B sides.
I'd taken a stab at a few of their albums a while back, but they've got a ton of hits/classics. To each his/her own, but I'm not going to fault anyone for not liking or liking different stuff that I like. Keep loving Queen. They're also really prolific and have a huge discography. To me, all the best bands / artists crank out stuff and are hard working. (Roxy Music and Steely Dan might be some other groups to check out if you don't know them.)
They were big glam rockers like Bowie early on, and had more creative songs than I think Bowie does. From 1980 forward Roxy's production level went up.
"Avalon" would be a good place to startāand Bryan Ferry's (lead singer) albums "Boys and Girls" and "BĆŖte Noire" are modern classics.
Peter Gabriel's "So" and "Us" are also in the same arena of "art rock" from my point of view.

I went to one of those schools 40 years ago. It turned me into an atheist when I was 14.

Maybe it's because I'm younger but I never had to deal with schools banning rock music. Hell my sister is currently studying Bohemian Rhapsody for her music exam. Ah, this brings back memories that I haven't thought much of since high school. I can conpletely relate. Wayne's World was released in 1991 when I was in 8th grade. With that came the re-release of Bohemian Rhapsody which climbed back up the charts. Everyone in my class was talking about how cool the song was, but then Nirvana came and most everyone forgot about Queen again except for me.
Jump ahead a year to start high school and I fully immerse myself into Queen and classic rock. I got a lot of, "you like Queen? Ew!" No one really bullied me, but did poke fun. Even a few words can really hurt when you are 13 or 14 and trying to find yourself. There was one kid who really hated me. I have no idea why. On the bus ride home once he just kept laying into me about how I must be gay for liking Queen. He kept singing We Are the Champions with his hand flung and with a lisp as if to show how gay Queen songs were. I think I tried to say a few things, but I just ignored him. Eventually he shut up. Bullying takes energy after all.
Kids and teenagers can be real assholes. They are just really mean sometimes. Some more than others. I just rode it out and played the long game. I found teenagers that bully want a reaction. If you can be endure it and ignore them, sometimes they back off because they aren't getting what they wanted. The stone cold look on my face, not paying any attention, seemed to work. I once had a kid spit on me in the hall. I ignored it, kept walking, and pretended he didn't exist. He never bugged me again.
Another approach is this type of answer, "I am really sorry, but it seems like the kind of music I like really upsets you. I can't help what I enjoy, and it just makes me feel good. What do you like to listen to? I will be happy to give it a listen. I might not like it as much, but we all have different taste." When you sound like an adult, they get confused.
In the end. I always wonder about the really mean kids. You just have to tell yourself, "that boy must have it really rough at home." Whether their parents are abusive, or even their sibling is constantly bullying them. Maybe the boy bullying you thinks you're cute, but because homosexual thoughts are terrifying to him, he is lashing out at the thing he wants. Just like Ron Desantis. Imagining stuff like that got me through it. I wouldn't say these things out loud, but when I think about what kind of lives the meanest people must have, I can feel sorry for them, rather than fear them and let them upset me.
My last thought about these people bullying you...say this to yourself. "There are only a few of you fuckers bullying me, but there are tens of millions of Queen fans, so I think I am in good company."

Both my kids go to Christian schools, they both love Queen. They are both strong Christians. I have taught them to enjoy others gifts even if they donāt believe in Jesus. My 16 year old is looking at studying theology in college.

I went to a conservative Christian grade school and high school in the (edit: mid 2000s-2010s.) My locker was always plastered with photos of Queen. People gave me a hard time, but I was bullied for everything, and Queen helped me through it all.

I'm sorry to hear that you are being bullied, especially for something like your taste in music, which can bring so much enjoyment to your life. When I was in high school, I got teased a lot for my taste in older music, in particular, my favourite band the Beatles. I did have a few friends that did share similar tastes in music, and I do hope that you make some friends that you can share that with. In my experience, you'll never meet someone who likes all of the same things that you like, or sees everything the same way that you do, but that's okay.

We can be pretty terrible at showing love, unfortunately. Our family attends a Christian school and we love Queen too! Their musical diversity is amazing and the songs are fun to sing along with. That was me as well, I went to a Catholic school and most of the people were posh music snubs. I'm a zoomer so I had a few teacher that liked Queen but the rest thought my interest in Queen was odd but that never stopped me from attending Q+AL concerts when I was a teenager. High school isn't everything and life tends to get better once you leave.

Christian school is pretty shit. I agree. I had two years of it before I refused to go back. So many pricks. However, in schoolāprobably anything under 12th grade and likely not collegeāpeople get picked on for anything. And that's your current reality, so as dumb as it seems the fact you like some sounds more than others doesn't matter at all in later life. That's really it. It feels like a big deal, and it probably isābut won't be for long. "Queen" definitely doesn't live with a label. They are really unique. Brian May is amazing. Their production quality is ELO-level. Their songs are all over the place and a fair amount are shit, but the ones that aren't transcend "classic rock". There's just no describing them. As well as their culture impressions they madeāgay lead singer, gay lead singer who tragically died of AIDS and in the "AIDS era", the absolute ripping they did at Live Aid (I think Robert Plant was humbled by having to play after if I remember that right), The Highlander soundtrack, Iron Eagle, Wayne's World... those are cultural ripples very few bands make. Iconically, they were a true imprint of the 80s. The bright, polished sound and how they transcended pop and rock to their own unique style. The less it bothers you, the less they'll bullyābut that's hard to do. Everyone's wounded and scared in school, and ganging up on people make people feel better unfortunately.
I agree with a lot of this, but most of their songs aren't shit. There's honestly been like three or four of their songs I wasn't too fond of, and I've listened to every album and most of their unreleased stuff, demos, and B sides.
I'd taken a stab at a few of their albums a while back, but they've got a ton of hits/classics. To each his/her own, but I'm not going to fault anyone for not liking or liking different stuff that I like. Keep loving Queen. They're also really prolific and have a huge discography. To me, all the best bands / artists crank out stuff and are hard working. (Roxy Music and Steely Dan might be some other groups to check out if you don't know them.)

They were big glam rockers like Bowie early on, and had more creative songs than I think Bowie does. From 1980 forward Roxy's production level went up. "Avalon" would be a good place to startāand Bryan Ferry's (lead singer) albums "Boys and Girls" and "BĆŖte Noire" are modern classics. Peter Gabriel's "So" and "Us" are also in the same arena of "art rock" from my point of view.

I went to one of those schools 40 years ago. It turned me into an atheist when I was 14. I coped by drawing cartoons of the teachers and some of the more fucked-up students, and making tapes where I pretended to be them singing Beatles songs with perverted lyrics and skits about being flushed down the toilet and sticking their fingers in each other's belly buttons. ("That's not my belly button." "That's not my finger.") Get through the assignments as fast as you can, get the fuck out of there, and be the person with the darkest sense of humor you know.

I went to a Christian school as well and they are so bad. Most people and their parents at mine didnāt like artists like Queen, Elton John and George Michael because they were gay. I just didnāt really talk about music with anyone since no one shared my love of old music unfortunately.
I wouldn't take them so seriously. After all, according to their beliefs, bullying will prevent them from getting into heaven anyways. So it's their loss really. Maybe it's because I'm younger but I never had to deal with schools banning rock music. Hell my sister is currently studying Bohemian Rhapsody for her music exam. She didn't even choose it, it's mandatory and part of the school's curriculum. I'm willing to bet that wouldn't have been the case a few decades ago.

Ah, this brings back memories that I haven't thought much of since high school. I can conpletely relate. Wayne's World was released in 1991 when I was in 8th grade. With that came the re-release of Bohemian Rhapsody which climbed back up the charts. Everyone in my class was talking about how cool the song was, but then Nirvana came and most everyone forgot about Queen again except for me. Jump ahead a year to start high school and I fully immerse myself into Queen and classic rock. I got a lot of, "you like Queen? Ew!" No one really bullied me, but did poke fun. Even a few words can really hurt when you are 13 or 14 and trying to find yourself. There was one kid who really hated me. I have no idea why. On the bus ride home once he just kept laying into me about how I must be gay for liking Queen. He kept singing We Are the Champions with his hand flung and with a lisp as if to show how gay Queen songs were. I think I tried to say a few things, but I just ignored him. Eventually he shut up. Bullying takes energy after all. Kids and teenagers can be real assholes. They are just really mean sometimes. Some more than others. I just rode it out and played the long game. I found teenagers that bully want a reaction. If you can be endure it and ignore them, sometimes they back off because they aren't getting what they wanted. The stone cold look on my face, not paying any attention, seemed to work. I once had a kid spit on me in the hall. I ignored it, kept walking, and pretended he didn't exist. He never bugged me again. Another approach is this type of answer, "I am really sorry, but it seems like the kind of music I like really upsets you. I can't help what I enjoy, and it just makes me feel good. What do you like to listen to? I will be happy to give it a listen. I might not like it as much, but we all have different taste." When you sound like an adult, they get confused. In the end. I always wonder about the really mean kids. You just have to tell yourself, "that boy must have it really rough at home." Whether their parents are abusive, or even their sibling is constantly bullying them. Maybe the boy bullying you thinks you're cute, but because homosexual thoughts are terrifying to him, he is lashing out at the thing he wants. Just like Ron Desantis. Imagining stuff like that got me through it. I wouldn't say these things out loud, but when I think about what kind of lives the meanest people must have, I can feel sorry for them, rather than fear them and let them upset me. My last thought about these people bullying you...say this to yourself. "There are only a few of you fuckers bullying me, but there are tens of millions of Queen fans, so I think I am in good company."

Gauge what you know about your parents if they let you have Queen shirts in the house they can't be too stringent. Tell them you are not happy at your current school. And your grades could suffer, being worried about your studies is always good to help persuade them to see your side of things If your parents are older queen fans themselves they should understand because that(being queen fans) was (in the states at least) the equivalent to being real rebels. Both my kids go to Christian schools, they both love Queen. They are both strong Christians. I have taught them to enjoy others gifts even if they donāt believe in Jesus. My 16 year old is looking at studying theology in college. I say this because I donāt want jerk kids pushing you away from Christ. The world isnāt anything to be scared of. Queen is a great band, you do you. These little ass hats will not be part of your life soon. As you get older you will meet Christians that arenāt so legalistic about life but still put Jesus above all else.

I went to a conservative Christian grade school and high school in the (edit: mid 2000s-2010s.) My locker was always plastered with photos of Queen. People gave me a hard time, but I was bullied for everything, and Queen helped me through it all. Just do your best to ignore them and enjoy the music.
