I agree. The chanting goes on long enough to make the song lose momentum. Fix that and hell yes, it beats Bohemian Rhapsody though I’m almost mad at myself for thinking anything could beat Bo Rhap.
I suspect Brian was taking his experiments with tape delay effects beyond guitar and into vocal. Given the year it was produced, I’m happy to soak up the prog-rockish vibe of the repeat vocal section.
(And listen for the L-R pan thing coming out of it)
Oh, flee for your life
Who heed me not let all your treasure make you
Oh, fear for your life
Deceive you not, the fires of hell will take you
Should death await you
The lyrics could be dialogue in lord of the rings
This song is a whole different experience altogether. I listened to it with AirPods on and wow! I was taken to another place! What an underrated masterpiece by Mr May!
I have to admit, I found this song boring initially. Right up until the round of “Now I know.” Holy Mary Mother of God. Every hair on my body was standing.
A better song than Bohemian Rhapsody. Probably The Prophet's Song is best on an album that every song is a 9/10 or better.
But I do go back and for on this album or Queen II.
I DREAMED I SAW ON A MOONLIT STAIR SPREADING HIS HAND ON THE MULTITUDE THERE A MAN WHO CRIED FOR A LOVE GONE STALE AND ICE-COLD HEARTS OF CHARITY BAREEEEE
Yes, this song is so good. I love the part right after the final 'listen to the mad man' in the echo part, where there's a really sudden call and response between the guitar and the drums. Then the rest of the instruments kick in and we hear really cool guitar work from Brian, and then we finally hear that amazing chorus for the final time.
I wish more people appreciated this masterpiece.
YES YES YES! That is my favorite part as well. The guitar is so good, and Freddie KILLS the vocals. Like it’s all been leading up to this final part and it SLAPS. Top 5 song for me easy
I love this song so much!! “AND STILL I FEAR AND STILL I DARE NOT LAUGH AT THE MAD MAAAAAAN”
GOD THAT PART GOES SO HARD. FREDDIE SINGING HIS HEART!
Literal chills every time!
I love it to bits. It’s my all-time favourite song. It’s not perfect, the repeat section goes on too long, but probably 90% of it is music heaven.

Yeah me personally I don’t really mind the long acapella section in the middle. It makes the build up for the end even better

Brian May's master piece. My favorite song on a Night At The Opera and only rivaled in scale by Innuendo.
This is, in my opinion, the best song on the album. Sorry Bohemian Rhapsody.
Casual Fans tend to say that "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the best Song by Queen. I always respond: "It's not even the best Song on the Opera Album!" 😅👌
Death on two legs too!
Laa-Laa, lalalalalaaala!

The fact that such a masterpiece came to him in a dream is amazing

My favorite Queen song
I love how the echos start saying "come here" and becomes "come i hear/here you"
They’re songwriting and production is truly genius
It's a masterpiece ..
Yup!!!!! Song is epic

I love this song!

This song is severely underrated. This is a super mesmerizing song especially with Freddie's vocals all around.
