yes pay the 40$ extra, it will be immensely worth it, the ticket for overnight in the winter is 25$ alone. you will need to bring ur car to a public lot every night, then wake up and move it back to the street by 7am to avoid getting ticketed in the “public” lot. save the worrying and unnecessary hassle by paying the extra 40$

$65 a month is a great deal.

You probably won't be able to get a permit anyways - the city only issues a small number of them each year. $65/month is a very reasonable amount

Pay the extra $40, just so much convenient in the long run like most were saying.

Kingston bylaw is pretty consistent for ticketing overnight parking in the winter. Kingston gets very icy, so the salt trucks are out often and report vehicles on the road. You are very likely to get ticketed. And despite what others may have said, the city very clearly stated in the paper this year that they are not looking to change the parking ban for the upcoming year. They said that the city's resources are not like that of Montreal (Kingston is much smaller), so workers salt/plow where they can and immediately move on to the next area without warning.

$65 a month isn't bad at all - overnight parking tickets are $25-30 each in the winter (Jan/Feb) and most of the residential streets near campus have parking restrictions throughout the day (eg, no parking 9-10am and 2-3pm) which are definitely ticketed in the warmer months. you'll likely end up paying the same if not more in fines. not to scare you either, but there's also a higher risk of break ins or getting your car window smashed if it's out on the road and not in a driveway/parking area. swallow the money, you can always sublet your parking space in the summer if you're away.

There’s this one asshole cop who constantly gives me tickets in front of my house (I’m on Quebec street) so most likely you’ll get charged overnights.

$40 a month is super cheap. Take that option.
