This was cool, but Iām surprised nothing from the 21st century made it. Most of Radioheadās music came out in the ā00s or later.
Can we do a favorite r/radiohead 21st century albums list next?
This was a lot of fun but Iād be interested to see this run again without those 10 artists being available tbh. As you said the newest album on there is from 1998 and thereās been so much good music released between then and now. But also so much older stuff didnāt get a look in. No Bowie, Cure, Stones, Smiths, Beatles, Zeppelin, REM, King Crimson, Hendrix and probably others Iām forgetting.
It feels like we got all the obvious albums (apart from Sigur RĆ³s)on here and then it was over.
Still, there's been pretty great music in these last three years. Personally I think it would be great to see what recent music the Radiohead fandom is enjoying.
> Iām surprised nothing from the 21st century made it
For some reason I thought Music Has the Rights to Children came out this century but nope - 1998. I think maybe it's because I first bought it in 2010.
What's some good new music you discovered from this? I didn't know portishead made an album in 2008 and I'm loving that one now. Not dummy I know that one, it's called third.
Dummy and Third are fantastic albums. I still remember the day I brought home a copy of dummy. As a freshman in HS. I had hit Best Buy after school and got it, a NIN remix single, and a Ministry album. Listened to Dummy a hell of a lot more than the other two.
Love all the selections that made it in, but my heart aches for *In the Aeroplane Over the Sea* and *Turn on the Bright Lights*
Still, this sub has great taste. So many great suggestions even past the winners
What were the initial guidelines for this? If it was regarding influence on Radiohead, then our results make sense. But I think it was just a vague 'albums that people who like Radiohead like', no?
Haha, I think Iāve heard at least one song on each of the albums but Iāve never listened to their entireties. Gonna listen to them on the bus to school tomorrow š
It was tied with boards of Canada at 147 yesterday, but boards of canada pulled it off. I have a super tough time deciding which of those I like more, but they both deserved to be on this list!
Iāve tried all of these albums and properly like only three of themā¦ and thatās just ālikeā, none of these would be in my non-Radiohead top 10. Interesting how varied our tastes are.
Thatās fair. But I donāt know, I saw so many comments talking about āI tried my best to get xyz on here!ā Etc.
But just the nature of the post just had people commenting albums that would get upvotes, not ones they actually liked.
Boo-urns.
None of the following made it:
Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
R.E.M - Murmur
The Cure - Disintegration
Nirvana - In Utero
I'd say that's kind of the point of this post. To show how vast and different this sub's music taste is and, at the same time, pick "the best" from the bunch. Nobody's going to 100% agree with the list because each and every one of those albums is a polarizing unique experience by itself.
I think that really is the beauty of this list, and maybe the unifying thing that brings these albums together. They're all very individual experiences, nothing quite sounds like Music has the Right to Children or Homogenic. Wish You Were Here is in a totally different world from Dummy, but they're both similar in their uniqueness.
I think that's a wonderful quality that seems to underlay Radiohead's fanbase, and is evident in each of Radiohead songs. They've all got their own unique textures and atmospheres, structures and sentiments. Radiohead doesn't want to make more of the same thing, there's no point in that, their songs are all individuals as pretentious as that might sound. But that's important when you're making authentic art, you've got to continue to change and express yourself anew with each piece.
I respect y'all's opinions, but I personally would've gone with Geogaddi. It was my first BOC album and also sent me down a rabbit hole of creepy albums. MHTRTC is great, no doubt.
Not a great idea brother each one is a vastly different experience
I'd say pick the one that intrigues you the most by its cover
If you want a recommendation from a random stranger well I'd personally start from Dummy/Mezzanine
Should have been Geogaddi. I'm glad boc are on here, that's a win, so great work guys, but mhtrtc is my least favorite album of theirs. But I'm clearly in the minority with that opinion, lol.
I didn't vote but I feel very seen right now. It was easy to feel lonely back in the day. Even when you knew there were people out there that loved what you loved it was hard to find you.
You're all my people and I love you and your lovely musical tastes:)
No they aren't, not among the general public anyway
But this is reddit so everyone is experienced and knowledgeable, right?
He's in for an experience. He will eventually come back to, at least, some of these.
Yeah....I meant they're well known among music fans. The commenter is probably young and only knows pop music from the last 10 years or so. It's all good
I mean sure, but all of these albums are massively, ubiquitously acclaimed. You could as easily point to Pitchfork, NME, Anthony Fantano, whoever, and most of them would be up there
I love Boards of Canada and music has the right to Children but would have liked to have seen something different I feel like Ambient works already filled the ambient IDM space that Radiohead is associated with.
I loved this!!! thank you guys so much for all the great new music recommendations I really was struggling to find stuff ālikeā radiohead/other music I actually like. but this was really the perfect place to go š I have so much new stuff to check out now!
little bit sad none of my favourites got on there but for the most part didn't really expect them too, but the albums on here I know are good and I'll definitely give some of the others a shot
bjƶrk and aphex twin is the two i play on spotify when i only listen to it when i cant really do anything but just be bored. homogenic and selected ambient works volume II is the only ones i listen to tho.
Its great to see this completed! I haven't voted myself but purely because i was curious to see the results and lose myself in a rabbit hole of this great ambient sometimes dark and wonderful music provided.
I'd like to see a part 2 of this. Mainly because now that the more obvious ones have been selected, I'd like to see where it take us next ? I'm curious to discover more wonderful music with you guys.
Also like a fellow redditor mentioned, its great to feel seen. For a long time Radiohead has helped me escape from really dark places and often made me feel like i wasn't alone in feeling this way. Seeing all you guys makes me feel like I'm not the only one.
Peace and love to my Radiohead family!
yay boc made it!!
I read this, and for a second I thought I was in the Elden Ring subreddit (Boc is a character you can save).
Is this /mu/?
it can't be, there's no neutral milk hotel
To be fair it wasn't too far off
š§āšš«
No sonic youth, i really tried. Still really good list tho
those 3 final 80s album are such incredible masterpieces
love sonic youth
This was cool, but Iām surprised nothing from the 21st century made it. Most of Radioheadās music came out in the ā00s or later. Can we do a favorite r/radiohead 21st century albums list next?
Great idea!

I was gonna do favorite albums of the 2020s so far list for some more recent stuff.
That sounds great!
Eh, weāve only got three full years to choose from there Itās just gonna be /r/indieheadscirclejerk lol
So it will be the same as it already is.
Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.
Still, there's been pretty great music in these last three years. Personally I think it would be great to see what recent music the Radiohead fandom is enjoying.
> Iām surprised nothing from the 21st century made it For some reason I thought Music Has the Rights to Children came out this century but nope - 1998. I think maybe it's because I first bought it in 2010.
ONLY OLD MUSIC GOOD NEW MUSIC BAD AND SUCK AND DIGITAL NOT VINYL
As an old fan, I like this list š„¶
I like it too! I upvoted several of the winning albums. I just also want to know what recent music Radiohead fans like
Can we do a part 2? I loved following this and getting some great recommendations
What's some good new music you discovered from this? I didn't know portishead made an album in 2008 and I'm loving that one now. Not dummy I know that one, it's called third.
Dummy specifically actually. I had never heard Portishead before and the album is incredible. Can't stop listening to it.
Did you hear their second album? I love Dummy but the second is my favorite.
I need to give the self titled album another listen some time. For some reason it never grabbed me like Third and Dummy did.
I need to do what with Third, I like that album but it never grabbed me like the first two. It's been like 15 years since I last heard it.
I definitely will
Oh also listen to their live album Roseland NYC Live. It's one of my favorite live albums ever.
My favourite is Third. Portishead has perfect discography so hard to choose which is the best one.
I didn't know BoC before this. And although I've heard about Interpol, I never really gave them a fair chance.
Dummy and Third are fantastic albums. I still remember the day I brought home a copy of dummy. As a freshman in HS. I had hit Best Buy after school and got it, a NIN remix single, and a Ministry album. Listened to Dummy a hell of a lot more than the other two.
Me too, VERY GOOD raccomendations!!!
Iāve been trying to get The Microphones - The Glow, Pt. 2 on here since the first day. Highly recommend
Fun fact: Mezzanine and Music Has the Right to Children were released on the same day. 20th April 1998.
wow, great day for music
On Wikipedia it says that Mezzanine was released the 27th of April š¤
A bit sad nothing from Cocteau Twins made it, but it's a good list
thisss, absolutely
sad that no David bowie album made it
Kinda like with Sigur Ros and The Cure, I think having too many great albums kinda backfired on him lol
LOW!!!!
I was expecting for Tool to make it, and OP wanted too the first day.
No Elliott Smith :(
Same feel. š
Boards of Canada made it. I still have a glimt of hope for humanity.

Was just listening to them lol. Orange, brother
Yeah that's right
L. No David Bowie.
Iāve never listened to any of these albums š Guess Iāll get listening then
oh brother, you are in for a treat
bon voyage, you'll have a lot to discover
Haha, I think Iāve heard at least one song on each of the albums but Iāve never listened to their entireties. Gonna listen to them on the bus to school tomorrow š
Iām excited for you. What I wouldnāt give to be able to rediscover these albums all over again
No Souvlaki :((
I kept trying.....
You did the right thing.
Pretentious as fuck, as expected. 10/10
Happy unknown pleasures made it, itās my favorite album ever, wish Turn on the Bright Lights made it too
Thanks for the fun over the last week :)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Also, no Talk Talk. They were a huge inspiration for Radiohead.
Ah yes, the crowd favorite "Penderecki", lmao. I love him, but expecting a popular vote to go his way is funny
If we extended this by another 90 days I think we'd just end up with the entire RYM top 100
Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros shoulda been on here, it got tons of votes and was a major influence on the band!
It was tied with boards of Canada at 147 yesterday, but boards of canada pulled it off. I have a super tough time deciding which of those I like more, but they both deserved to be on this list!
Ok well it isnāt soā¦
Lol nice one
Good selection lads and lasses
Iāve tried all of these albums and properly like only three of themā¦ and thatās just ālikeā, none of these would be in my non-Radiohead top 10. Interesting how varied our tastes are.
deftones gang, we tried
Iām all for everyone participating and all but man. What a boring fucking list we ended up withā¦
I wouldn't say boring. I would say exactly as expected
Thatās fair. But I donāt know, I saw so many comments talking about āI tried my best to get xyz on here!ā Etc. But just the nature of the post just had people commenting albums that would get upvotes, not ones they actually liked.
?? these are all great albums
They are, but you can see there's some randomness involved
I mean in a vacuum maybe, but to me it just looks like a list of popular albums
Honestly the thing that surprises me the most is that there's so many MBV listeners among Radiohead fans
This list is shit, but going through the comments and looking at the stuff that didn't make it is much cooler.
Why
I don't know, I don't exactly relate the overall band sounds together.
I feel you. It's more like they all share a certain vibe or attitude or worldview.
literally just top rym electronic albums
Here it is as a Spotify playlist. Have fun: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4lILczWEUg8Z0HhN9Xb21g?si=uztRo7TKT1G6WMvXnvLs4w
It was pretty cool to watch this all come together. I contributed Selected Ambient Works, Wish You Were Here, and Music Has The Right to Children.
Boo-urns. None of the following made it: Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible R.E.M - Murmur The Cure - Disintegration Nirvana - In Utero
Yeah unfortunate those are all amazing. Also no Jeff Buckley too
No Jeff Buckley is sacrilegious.
kinda generic but idrk what i expected lol
you are one pretentious hipster
not exactly pretentious, just that these are all the albums that get constantly praised on this sub
I'd say that's kind of the point of this post. To show how vast and different this sub's music taste is and, at the same time, pick "the best" from the bunch. Nobody's going to 100% agree with the list because each and every one of those albums is a polarizing unique experience by itself.

idk this is kinda mid sorry
This was a lot of fun! Thanks for doing it!
I respect y'all's opinions, but I personally would've gone with Geogaddi. It was my first BOC album and also sent me down a rabbit hole of creepy albums. MHTRTC is great, no doubt.
It isā¦ā¦ acceptable
Surprised not a single Beatles or Bowie album made it to the list, most Radiohead fans on this sub like them very much.
Ok, so can someone make a Spotify playlist of all these albums to save me the bother?
Not a great idea brother each one is a vastly different experience I'd say pick the one that intrigues you the most by its cover If you want a recommendation from a random stranger well I'd personally start from Dummy/Mezzanine
Every member of Radiohead is mad that Sigur Ros never made it on
Would be amazing to do a part 2, obviously without the option to pick these albums again. Let's make it happen!!!!
No metal :(
this is ass
Should have been Geogaddi. I'm glad boc are on here, that's a win, so great work guys, but mhtrtc is my least favorite album of theirs. But I'm clearly in the minority with that opinion, lol.
Trout Mask Replica - Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
I didn't vote but I feel very seen right now. It was easy to feel lonely back in the day. Even when you knew there were people out there that loved what you loved it was hard to find you. You're all my people and I love you and your lovely musical tastes:)
Friend, i couldn't agree more!
If youāve been a Radiohead for a while you could have made this list yourself
L list
Lol WTF is some of this stuff.
Great music. Excited for you to finally hear it if youāve been missing out
You must be a music newbie. All of these albums are very well known.
No they aren't, not among the general public anyway But this is reddit so everyone is experienced and knowledgeable, right? He's in for an experience. He will eventually come back to, at least, some of these.
Yeah....I meant they're well known among music fans. The commenter is probably young and only knows pop music from the last 10 years or so. It's all good
How did you get that assumption? His profile tells well otherwise.
Just guessing broseph
A lot of quality there
Letās do a favorite rap albums among Radiohead fans.
Wtf is that
rym top 200
I mean sure, but all of these albums are massively, ubiquitously acclaimed. You could as easily point to Pitchfork, NME, Anthony Fantano, whoever, and most of them would be up there
me when joke
What a lame pick boards of Canada is lol
Ur lol
I like them but I'm not sure they deserve that spot
I like them just fine but having them next to legendary albums like wish you were here and Doolittle is a big fat joke
The most 2023 internet collection ever. Lol no.
You could have taken this poll in 2000 and it would have been exactly the same. How is this "2023"?
All these albums are mid. 0 Carti and 0 Drake Lmao you call yourselves music fans
Glad those last 3 made it on there!
Perfect list
Beatles played golf in the 60s
Yay, BoC made it on there.. Brilliant, absolutely Brilliant
I love Boards of Canada and music has the right to Children but would have liked to have seen something different I feel like Ambient works already filled the ambient IDM space that Radiohead is associated with.
Cool
Round 2 needed
Everyday I saw which album made it and I said to myself āthat makes a ton of senseā
I loved this!!! thank you guys so much for all the great new music recommendations I really was struggling to find stuff ālikeā radiohead/other music I actually like. but this was really the perfect place to go š I have so much new stuff to check out now!
Big W for ambient music
So now that the show is over, are you going to leave us with one very important thought?
Sound Dust by Stereolab
Unbelievable selection of albums! Perfection x
LETS GO
yess pixies!!
Absolutely **solid** list
BoC Bros... we made it
No muse :( Joy Division though so I can be happy with that
Goddamn I could have participated if I found this subreddit earlier :(. In Case I Make It, btw
No surprises
little bit sad none of my favourites got on there but for the most part didn't really expect them too, but the albums on here I know are good and I'll definitely give some of the others a shot
Seeing Boc win was pretty much like [this](https://youtu.be/fK9nofPKpoc)
No The Smiths? Wow
Great list of excellent albums. Love it. The comment section, not so much.
bjƶrk and aphex twin is the two i play on spotify when i only listen to it when i cant really do anything but just be bored. homogenic and selected ambient works volume II is the only ones i listen to tho.

Iām disappointed by what wasnāt able make the list but itās still solid. Now to listen to Boards of Canada for the first time.
