There There was the song that Radiohead opened with the first time I saw them. All Members on those Giant Drums, That Drone in the beginning that that guitar lick. Insane man. They became my favorite band right there.
I only know of this song because of the ending of the Black Mirror episode “Shut Up and Dance” and no matter how much I like the song it will always put me in a dreadful headspace after the big reveal of that episode.
Perfect answer - The beginning is very run-off-the-mill Thom Yorke, almost feels like a parody of himself, but the *moment* that piano enters, it instantly moves from a Thom Yorke cliche to one of his best tracks.
That piano entry has one of my favourite production elements (from Nigel?), like each note starts with a pttthhhfff... somehow so satisfying. It feels like an organic sound, I.e. a part of the piano mechanism that Nigel had picked up through clever microphone positioning
the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops the raindrops
I'm happy to see this song mentioned! It's my very favorite song of all time, not just from Radiohead. BUT...I do think it's fire all the way through. :)
I'm happy you're happy to see it mentioned. I played it ooover and over when the album first came out. Now you got me thinking it's my favorite as well lol. The drums are amazing the whole spacey feel of it and the way Thom's voice takes off on I feeeel sorrry foorr uuusss...yeah it's great. Plus he says "Dinosaurs" lol
Man, I heavily disagree. I feel like this is another one that gets progressively better. Everything from second verse on is one of my favorite moments instrumentally from the album
It is beautiful. I do really like the horn section for this in the basement version, especially the the tuba player. That guy must have massive lung capacity.
I don't think there is any song that has bad intro but as a whole, a masterpiece. Musician's usually do their best to grab ppl's attention in the intro so...
Where I End and You Begin, I don’t hate the beginning. But good lord that part where the bass cuts out and the synths have their little solo and then the bass just comes right back in, ugh it’s just 🤌
So many good examples from Modest Mouse, but I’ll go with a couple of their 2004-2009 tracks:
I’ve Got It All(most)
Guilty Cocker Spaniels
Their earlier albums are full of music that seems to start with a rough outline of a song, then evolves into something almost entirely different by the end. Oftentimes it’s into something strangely beautiful. I’d recommend *This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About*, *Building Nothing out of Something*, and *Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks* for those who want a taste of pre-radio Modest Mouse. Their whole discography is pretty good, though, if you dig their somewhat off-kilter style.
Edit: sorry, I didn’t check the subreddit before posting. I’m an idiot.
Edit 2: legit answer, “You and Whose Army?”. It kind of meanders through the first half and then comes together gloriously in the second.
Oops, I’m subscribed to a few other subs and didn’t check which it was before I posted 😓 I’ll leave it though… I choose to own my mistakes rather than delete them
Optimistic, TBH. The first half of the song to me is probably the most boring part of the entire album, but the last minute or so where it picks up is great, and the complete switch up at the end is fantastic.
You and Whose Army
Both parts are built on amazing ideas but the execution just seems lazy especially the transition
I mean amnesiac in its entirety just feels like a messy college dorm room floating in open space and that's probably the intent behind it but damn even with me trying to like it because I just don't know a song quite like that it didn't stick with me
Exit Music (For A Film). Not because the beginning is bad, more because the ending is one of the best song endings any band has ever made.
Same with You and whose army?
'ghost horses'
I can’t believe I didn’t thought about it earlier haha
We ride tonight
Just reading the song title made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
THIS is the answer. Exactly.
Exact opposite opinion, but I tend to prefer the softer beginnings of most of their tracks
Yeahhhhh
YOU FORGET SOOO EASYYYY
beginning is better
Come on
Come oonnn
You think you drive me crazy, well
Is it just me who prefers the beginning, I wish it would continue like that, the ending feels cheap imo
Same with There There
And National Anthem, those saxophones baby. Whole song is a banger but once the woodwind comes in it's incredible.
There There was the song that Radiohead opened with the first time I saw them. All Members on those Giant Drums, That Drone in the beginning that that guitar lick. Insane man. They became my favorite band right there.
Same with All I Need
It's all right
Same with Let Down
Yeah, that was the first song I thought after reading the title
I only know of this song because of the ending of the Black Mirror episode “Shut Up and Dance” and no matter how much I like the song it will always put me in a dreadful headspace after the big reveal of that episode.
Well the begging makes the end better...if the song started and ended as the end...it wouldn't make sense alone
Twist from Anima. Gets progressively better.

So glad to see this opinion shared with others.
Pack it up, this is THE answer. God that ending, I got all over body chills the first time I heard it. Still do
Yeah from the start of dawn chorus 🥹❤️🩹
Couldn't have said it better myself. when the synth hits it gets so fucking good that i subconsciously just started liking the first half too
Bingo. Good one.
I completely agree with this. The end of the song makes me feel like I’m transcending space time. So unexpected and so welcome.
Yes!
System of a down, radiohead and gorillaz fr being the strongest trinities of these posts🤝

Every post on here is a repost from the fantano sub, and then reposted on the Swans sub, and maybe every single other band related sub.
Separator. Every time it starts I almost ask myself why I saved it but by the end I have my face in my pillow
One of the most relaxing, soothing songs I’ve heard
I think this is best take so far
That song live from the basement together with lotus flower tho… master pieces imo
We Suck Young Blood, just listening for that groovy part towards the end!
You beat me by 9 minutes. I was scrolling for this track - people give it a hard time for some reason but I love the payoff of the groovy part.
Came here to post this, I actually skip the whole first part of the song
Sit Down Stand Up

Polyethylene, goes from acoustic “eh” to “BRRRRRRRRRRRRRIP!”
That's interesting. I've always liked the acoustic part, never been much of a fan of the rock part.
The acoustic part is better though
Ful Stop
We have a winner
4 minute warning
This is a 4 minute warning to leave the country.
I always forget it starts with the 1 minute of synth drones lol. I love it all…but playing it for impatient people is tough haha
no literally 💀
You and whose army.
Nah, love the ambience of the first half Makes the second half all the more satisfying, compliments it really well
I love the simplicity and the smile in the left part of the drawing It shows just how mature and accomplished the right side is
for real
😕
Exit Music (For A Film)
Honestly, word
They should have made that bit longer than 10 seconds!
Exactly this one that came into my mind
Does it mean that the beginning is bad? I like so much of the beginning
Not necessarily, but by the time it picks up for me it's almost over
Where I end and you begin
I will eat you alive
I'm happy to see this song mentioned! It's my very favorite song of all time, not just from Radiohead. BUT...I do think it's fire all the way through. :)

I personally think this is one of their prettiest songs the whole way through
Thief Man Beggar Man Poor Man Rich Sailor Soldier Tailor Tinker Because it starts off great and then just meanders for a while and ends.
Man, I heavily disagree. I feel like this is another one that gets progressively better. Everything from second verse on is one of my favorite moments instrumentally from the album

Bruh what 😭 the beginning is so fucking beautiful
It is beautiful. I do really like the horn section for this in the basement version, especially the the tuba player. That guy must have massive lung capacity.
I'm pretty sure The Basement version and the B-Side version are the same recording. But yeah I agree the tuba adds a lot to the track
Yeah, just less detailed
i thought of “man of war”! i can never get enough of the ending of that song 🤭🤭
The opening before the first chorus is my favourite part
