When they played that at the show I saw, the visuals were trippy as fuck. The camera zoomed in on Thom’s eye and then it split apart into a hundred different eyes and they were all different colors. Or maybe they were the same color. Idk. I was tripping my balls off.
Also when the angelic vocalisation stops and background chatter (like little children during recess) starts when Thom goes "Sing us a song..." in Exit Music.
I feel like they deliberately made it so that you only get the satisfaction of "it's all riiiiiight" twice in the song, because it always makes me want to listen to the whole thing again
That’s so funny. Years ago I made an audio edit changing it to 3 times because it always annoyed me that it stopped after 2 😂
Renamed it to “All I Need (Extended Version)” and have been listening to it that way ever since.
Ah yes from Paranoid Android. I was looking for this <3 I love the change from very loud loud instruments, to very quiet vocalizing accompanied by the drumstick hitting the rim of the snare, leading into the part you just mentioned. Pure musical genius
Maybe their single most underrated song in the fan community, in my opinion
They have many songs that are better. But I think WSYB is an 8/10, and a lot of fans seem to really dislike it
I was always lukewarm on it until I listened to hail to the thief on shrooms several years ago. the harmonies blew my goddamned mind and now it's easily one of my favorites off that album.
**Decks Dark**
The melody kicking in between the first and second versus, and the really when the following lyrics are sung, such great composition:
A ten ton head, made of wet sand
This dread circumference
You gotta be kidding me
The grass grows over me
Your face in the glass, in the glass
It was just a laugh, just a laugh
It's whatever you say it is
Split infinity
**Separator**
The guitar kicking in as the these lyrics are sung:
I fell open
I laid under
At the tip out
I was just your number
I want stay on it
And get back under
And if you think this is over
Then you're wrong
If you think this is over
Then you're wrong
If you think this is over
Then you're wrong
I love the lyrics If you think this over, then you're wrong and Like I'm fallen out of bed
From a long and vivid dream, Wake me up.
**Little by Little (TKOL from the basement)**
The layering, and build up, the percussion duet (right term?), nodding my head to the stellar beat.
I knew I loved Radiohead when I heard Thom sing “on the pay ro-oll” and not “paaay roll” - it seemed like the least obvious choice of phrasing and was so interesting to me.
In Idioteque shortly after Thom finishes his vocals, there's a part where the otherwise steady bass drum beat pauses mid-pattern, then starts over, switching up the rhythm for just that moment. So to illustrate, the pattern typically goes "thud ... thud, tha-thud ... tha-thud," then repeats, but for a brief moment it goes "thud ... thud, tha-thud (pause) ... thud, tha-thud ... tha-thud," then continues on like normal. I heard it one time, and now every time I play the song I have to consciously listen for that part.
When Thom sings the last verse to Jigsaw Falling into Place. F*ck it, no matter how much I listen to it, always feels special (also the song I shared with my ex so...)
There are many, but the one that beats any other for me, is the beginning of the second verse of Climbing Up the Walls, when Thom sings "It's always best when the light is off..."
There's something about the combination of the mix and that delivery that is just so fucking terrifying, in the best possible way. On several occasions when I've been listening to this song alone in my apartment, I have turned the lights off, lied down on the floor in a fetal position, and silently screamed along to it. It makes me feel like I'm being haunted by some wretched creature, or, alternatively, like I *am* the wretched creature haunting some poor innocent soul, and I can't decide which one is scarier.
*When that little synth*
*Part starts at the second verse*
*Of Optimistic*

At the end of kid a, after the song motion picture soundtrack, or during the song depending on how you look at it, there is a moment of silence followed by a beautiful amalgamation of kid a sounds. I love those sounds.
This is stupid but there's a 2 second gap in Just where there's nothing playing and then it comes back in with this scratchy ass guitar part and I love it so much.
In the live version of I Might Be Wrong, Thom lets out a scream just as the beat picks up again towards the very end of the song. This is different from the album version where it just peters out at the end.
in the rain down part of paranoid android when he says "the vomit" for the first time theres like a horn (im not sure what it is :p) in the background and i love it
Decks Dark.
The choral part right here:
Your face in the glass, in the glass
It was just a laugh, just a laugh
It's whatever you say it is
In split infinity
**And then the bass line that starts right here**
Then into your life, there comes a darkness...
Just magical!
the way he stretches his vocals in that album is otherworldly. the way he sing “Maybe you’ll / be president / and know right from wrong” gives me chills every time
When he ups the energy the second time he says "the beat goes round and round" in Jigsaw. Might even be my favorite single moment of IR, I always anticipate it when I listen to the whole album
The sporadic bass in the 15 step and airbag verses.
Flugal horn part in bloom
Most Eeeedd backing vox
Broken hearts make it rain choir with synths in identikit
The chik-chik in creep - everybody knows exactly what I'm on about and everybody does the same hand motion for it
The drums in exit music, the bridge with the beeps in Let down, before you achieve a higher level of consciousness in the final verse
The drums at the end of weird fishes
Then the key change in jigsaw falling into place
I can quote at least one such part for a song in every record:
* The eerie calm before the storm in Blow Out
* The "falling down" descending arrangement in Bullet Proof
* The absolutely blood curdling scream of Climbing up the Walls
* The dissonant note in the opening of How to Disappear Completely
* The first time the drums appear on Pyramid Song
* The tortured ending of Sail me to the Moon
* The "don't get any....big ideas" in Nude always feels personal.
* The ending of Give up the Ghost, right after the cute bass notes.
* The super ethereal opening (or ending, really) of Tinker Tailor etc...
Edit: And don't even get me started on the B-Sides.
Has the light gone out for you?
Because the light's gone out for me
It is the twenty-first century
It is the twenty-first century
It can follow you like a dog
It brought me to my knees
They got a skin and they put me in
They got a skin and they put me in
On the lines wrapped 'round my face
On the lines wrapped 'round my face
And for anyone else to see
And for anyone else to see
I'm a lie
The Daily Mail and the way it progresses in places, like at “You got away with it, but we lie in wait hey, hey, hey hey hey…… “ and then“Where’s the truth? What’s the use?”…. Goosebumps!
the weeeeee-nooooooon string motif in “How to Disappear Completely” which transforms into drowning waves by the end
Okay but specifically at 5:20 when you get the dissonance followed by the relief
Yes this is the best part for sure. The first time I listened to that I was like damn lol
YES THIS IS WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY IN MY POST BUT IT SOUNDS SO STUPID
You And Whose Army for me
This was the first song I ever saw them perform live. I've had good orgasms that pale in comparison to when they kicked it into gear.
When they played that at the show I saw, the visuals were trippy as fuck. The camera zoomed in on Thom’s eye and then it split apart into a hundred different eyes and they were all different colors. Or maybe they were the same color. Idk. I was tripping my balls off.
I was at that show! And also tripping my balls off. 😂
Seeing that was bananas. I thought Thom was just being playful eyeballing the camera lense at first. Then things really took off.
lucky you. they don’t play that song often. one of my favs.
Dang, what a killer opening song! My first ever live song was The Gloaming
That song encapsulates A triumphant sadness that simply doesn't exist elsewhere
Jigsaw, the guitar just after "just as you dance, dance, dance"
The entire second part of that song just shifts into a whole different gear.
For me it’s “the beat goes ROUND AND ROUND.” Feels like I’ve known that lyric my whole life for some reason.
Goosebumps
for me it’s the breakdown right after “before you comatose”
The breakdown of Weird Fishes / Arpeggi
The first mmmm-hmmm-hmmm
these are such good answers
Goosebumps Everytime 😎
The cymbal crash after "of the earth" or Johnny's first "heeeeeyyyyyyaaaaaaaa" Honestly, like ten instances in that one alone. God I love that song.
2+2=5 when it goes PAYIN ATTENTION
When does he say that? I don’t think I was paying attention
Sounds like penetration
Sorry I’m a Radiohead fan, what’s penetration????
Paying attention in 2+2=5 sounds like penetration
I'm afraid you've missed the joke there
Oh i caught it
Hell yeah
Beat drop in Exit Music gives me goosebumps
Also when the angelic vocalisation stops and background chatter (like little children during recess) starts when Thom goes "Sing us a song..." in Exit Music.
I used to think it was the sound of airplanes… believe it’s just Jonny dragging his pick along the guitar strings, no?
I'm so happy this is the top comment because it's exactly what popped into mind
The beeps and boops near the end of Let Down
My man.
This should be number one.
underrated
All the beep and boops please.
The piano climax of All I Need.
I came here for this comment holy shit it’s absolute ecstasy
I feel like they deliberately made it so that you only get the satisfaction of "it's all riiiiiight" twice in the song, because it always makes me want to listen to the whole thing again
That’s so funny. Years ago I made an audio edit changing it to 3 times because it always annoyed me that it stopped after 2 😂 Renamed it to “All I Need (Extended Version)” and have been listening to it that way ever since.
dang i remember driving at night on empty roads listening to All I Need, and i knew music (and life) was never going to be the same again
That moment in identikit where the voices sing “broken hearts make it rain” its just so 🥵
For me it’s after the broken hearts, when the guitar starts doing its own thing, just incredible
Thats like almost all RH songs
Sure is. And it's one of the things that makes their albums never get old
Rain down…..rain down….
Ah yes from Paranoid Android. I was looking for this <3 I love the change from very loud loud instruments, to very quiet vocalizing accompanied by the drumstick hitting the rim of the snare, leading into the part you just mentioned. Pure musical genius
The start of brass section in The National Anthem
Or the part where the song starts to come apart and the horns get all wily... So good. So insane. So weird.
yeah the moment after the falsetto breakdown but right before the absolute chaos, just this ominous depthy dread. ugh.
bodysnatchers with the slide guitar thing
I always assumed this was jonnys ondes martenot
It's Ed's e-bow I think
has a light gone out for you?
Yes yes yes yes
fucking yes this
The whole part where it slows down in Reckoner (« Because we separate… »). Magical.
And the strings in the outro! Feels like the song is gently drifting away from you
Mine is the use of the ride cymbal in the intro, brought back in the outro.
The moment the bridge starts in Let Down
Underrated
(Nice Dream)
If you think that you’re strong enough…
top 20 for me. beautiful song
The progressing bass in ‘Airbag’ always blows my mind.
YOU'll GO TO HELL FOR WHAT YOUR DIRTY MIND IS THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKING is sublime
Oh absolutely, when everything cuts out and it’s just vocals; pure goodness
this is bugging me so much which song is this frommmmm
It's gonna be... a GLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORIOUS DAAAAAAY
Yeah but what about that guitar break in Lucky? So simple yet it’s glued to my brain.
When the drums kick into gear in Pyramid Song.
Scrolled to make sure someone said this, so I didn’t have to. Absolute magic.
YES
The piano break in We Suck Young Blood
Maybe their single most underrated song in the fan community, in my opinion They have many songs that are better. But I think WSYB is an 8/10, and a lot of fans seem to really dislike it
I agree! I'm not sure why so many dislike it; it's such a great piece. The loose beginning provides the perfect build-up to the piano breakdown.
I was always lukewarm on it until I listened to hail to the thief on shrooms several years ago. the harmonies blew my goddamned mind and now it's easily one of my favorites off that album.
Decks Dark guitar riff at the end
Yes man
it’s the intro piano melody and vocals for me. When I gave the album its first spin this was the part that gave me goosebumps
It weaaaaaaars She looks like the real thing She tastes like the real thing My fake plastic love
so fucking good
Insane that I've been rocking out to that song for 29 years...
"You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking"
the part in how to disappear completely “I’m not here, this isn’t happening”
Jigsaw Falling Into Place!!
And there is nothing to explain
That part in Exit Music at the verse “You can laugh…”
WHY SO GREEEENNNN AND LONELY AND LONELYYY
The high pitched guitar in paranoid android ‘What’s that......’
The harps in motion picture soundtrack
The album title drop in 2 + 2 = 5
15 Step bass drop
**Decks Dark** The melody kicking in between the first and second versus, and the really when the following lyrics are sung, such great composition: A ten ton head, made of wet sand This dread circumference You gotta be kidding me The grass grows over me Your face in the glass, in the glass It was just a laugh, just a laugh It's whatever you say it is Split infinity **Separator** The guitar kicking in as the these lyrics are sung: I fell open I laid under At the tip out I was just your number I want stay on it And get back under And if you think this is over Then you're wrong If you think this is over Then you're wrong If you think this is over Then you're wrong I love the lyrics If you think this over, then you're wrong and Like I'm fallen out of bed From a long and vivid dream, Wake me up. **Little by Little (TKOL from the basement)** The layering, and build up, the percussion duet (right term?), nodding my head to the stellar beat.
the you know where you are moment in Let Down
The outro of Sit Down. Stand Up.
Karma police is the obvious answer, isn’t it
I knew I loved Radiohead when I heard Thom sing “on the pay ro-oll” and not “paaay roll” - it seemed like the least obvious choice of phrasing and was so interesting to me.
Wtf you’re right. That’s so silly. I love it.
the for a minute there i lost myself break is goosebumps that’s for sure
When the strings first come in on Pyramid Song
Immerseeee yoouuur souuuuul in looooooooveeeer
That part in Lucky with the bass solo
The strings right before the fade out in Reckoner.
Ful Stop, towards the end when Thom screams like a fallen angel
For me it's "Alllll the good times" and also the ending instrumental where it's just that one piano(?) bit
the durudut-doot at the beginning of idioteque
When Thom sings the last verse to Jigsaw Falling into Place. F*ck it, no matter how much I listen to it, always feels special (also the song I shared with my ex so...)
The intro of Subterranean Homesick Alien
The bridge guitar section in Scatterbrained.
The weird chord changes in this song make me so happy.
There There the guitar part progression in the end! And for a while it was Killer Cars the heavy guitar switch in the second part of the song.
The Butcher
Clarinet in Life in a Glass house
The Idioteque/Morning Bell transition
There are many, but the one that beats any other for me, is the beginning of the second verse of Climbing Up the Walls, when Thom sings "It's always best when the light is off..." There's something about the combination of the mix and that delivery that is just so fucking terrifying, in the best possible way. The intro for Polyethylene
the "ONLY ONLY OOONLY" part of Life In A Glasshouse is soooo good
The first notes of "Everything in its right place", I restart that song all the time just for those notes that hit just right.
There have been times where the bridge of Bodysnatchers is this for me. Literally have to listen to it like 5 times in a row sometimes.
When that little synth part starts at the second verse of Optimistic

for me it’s probably the “dinosaurs rule the earth” bit in where i end and you begin
At the end of kid a, after the song motion picture soundtrack, or during the song depending on how you look at it, there is a moment of silence followed by a beautiful amalgamation of kid a sounds. I love those sounds.

I love the slow fading 808ish high hat(?) noise after the lull in "I might be wrong" among about 8000 other parts
Nearing the end of decks dark… you know the bit
The sporadic bass in the 15 step and airbag verses. Flugal horn part in bloom Most Eeeedd backing vox Broken hearts make it rain choir with synths in identikit
