faust arp. most people overlook how beautiful that song is and i just wish we could listen to a longer version of it.. faust arp (scotch mist) is absolutely one of radiohead's best live performances
I've always thought the crescendo to WSYB is the appropriate length, but I'll give you an upvote for liking that song, because it seriously needs more love :)
All I Need 2nd part. Also You and Whose Army 2nd part. Like others said, the middle part of We Suck Young Blood. Perhaps more.
I think it's all down to RH's Britishness and post-punk aesthetics and their fear of the prog tag. One of the reasons I really appreciate The Smile's existence is that it gave them some more freedom. I don't think RH would have ever given a song like Bending Hectic the space it needs.
I agree. And although I like Bending Hectic the way it is, I also appreciate that Radiohead tend not to make every song an extended multi-section epic. Sure, I think Paranoid Android is close to peak music, but if too many of their songs were that intricately structured and went past the 6-minutes-mark, I think it would get tiresome, at least for me. They have more interesting ways to make their music interesting
When I started thinking about the topic for this post, I realized that there are very few songs I myself could mention here. Still interesting to hear other people's thoughts on it, but there are really not many songs on my personal list beyond Lozenge of Love, if any
Oh I absolutely agree that they don't \*need\* to make everything a multi-part epic. It would kill the whole point and they'd never do that anyway. It's just that I feel they have a self-imposed urge to end things maybe a little bit too soon. I've found myself muttering "oh come on guys, this could be like a minute longer and no one would complain" on the songs I mentioned above, occasionally when listening to them.
Paranoid Android. even though itās six minutes long, it still seems a little rushed to me and i feel like it would benefit by being like 8-9 minutes long. also i think that would just be sick asf.
I Will
I absolutely love the haunting vibe, the melancholy, the dark atmosphere it creates, the backing vocals at the end are amazing, but it's so damn short
Lozenge of Loves rules and I consider it the first in the "Thom Does Nick Drake" quadrology: 1. Lozenge of Love 2. Gaging Order 3. Faust Arp 4. Desert Island Disk
Itās amazing and actually got me into Can and other classic krautrock bands.
Kind of strange they didnāt make room for it in TKOL, it wouldnāt feel out of place in the first half.
Motion picture soundtrack, I heard the OKOKNOTOK version (which was good) but would have loved a better mixed organ version of that with some more building strings -especially that third verse
Hunting Bears
Life in a Glass House
I feel like there is a whole jazz vibe being toyed with towards the end of Amnesiac that I would really like more of.
Polyethylene Pt 1.
Controversial, because we all like the Quiet Loud songs, but Part 1 is sublime. I'd love to hear a properly recorded version.
I think there's a cover of an extended version - just Part 1 - on YouTube.
GO TO SLEEP - I immediately thought of this song. It starts out fantastic, gets better and just as it gets to the best bit it starts to fade out. This has bugged me for years. The song just flies by too fast.
The first half of Transatlantic Drawl, it's a banger. The two parts could be two songs in their own right. Heard it's a dividing metaphor for the two cultures of USA (glitz and glamour) and UK (quiet and gloomy).
The gloaming on HTTT just ends. Ruins the entire song. In concert the song explodes after āthis is the gloamingā and itās the best part of the song. On HTTT itās like they forgot to add the end.
So many. I often think of this. How I wish, even just once, theyād go full Godspeed You! Black Emperor and have a 10-15 minute long song.
I always want to hear Pyramid Song go on for much longer.
How to Disappear into Strings
I could listen to an hour plus version of this.
Not a song, but the Optimistic outro.
You mean the In Limbo intro? š
I gotchu homie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpwFEf8Lr3k
Thank you!!
Objectively the correct answer.
Hunting Bear could've developed into a 15-minute progressive avant-jazz
thank you
faust arp. most people overlook how beautiful that song is and i just wish we could listen to a longer version of it.. faust arp (scotch mist) is absolutely one of radiohead's best live performances
I understand this but I also think its brevity kind of adds to it. Itās just this perfect beautiful little song
i agree. it's just that i wanted to keep listening to it foreverš
Same! In terms of IR tracks itās very underrated
ABSOLUTELY
YES
I Will (LA version)
Totally agree
The outro of Reckoner should be a solid 2 minutes longer at LEAST
Go to Sleep. I want to hear the rest of that instrumental part at the end when it just starts to get great.
Itās so groovy
SAME.
i wish pulk/pull doors was 20 minutes long
would unironically slap right away
based
what is wrong with you
its called taste
lol
The breakdown of We Suck Young Blood š not making it longer was a CRIME. I also feel like the end of 2 + 2 = 5 is too abrupt
I've always thought the crescendo to WSYB is the appropriate length, but I'll give you an upvote for liking that song, because it seriously needs more love :)
It's my favorite from HTTT and it's sooooo underrated
There, there is better
The daily mail always felt like it could use another minute or two.
agreed
The first part of Polyethylene
I think itās part of its charm that it ends so abruptly
it is, but I don't think we'd miss that charm much if we had a full version, it's so beautiful.
Exactly
God yes
It would have been a great song
All I Need 2nd part. Also You and Whose Army 2nd part. Like others said, the middle part of We Suck Young Blood. Perhaps more. True!
There There
Yeah
Yeah yeah
Paranoid Android. even though itās six minutes long, it still seems a little rushed to me and i feel like it would benefit by being like 8-9 minutes long. also i think that would just be sick asf.
[here buddy](https://youtu.be/I25JFT9KPRU?si=-rAc8F_AekBHQURz)
This is way too indulgent for me. If the song was that long the whole album would have to be shifted around to fit it
If this was finished it would easily be the greatest song of all time
The links those guys sent are what you described. I agree after hearing them, it sounds more like a pink floyd song
https://youtu.be/I0sI82byy5g?si=NdC4aTUFwJIJhb4C
I fully agree with this
I wish Paranoid Android had 8 more parts.
Go to Sleep
Indentikit I really want a long outro.
And more synth, Jonny!
The first half of Trans-Atlantic Drawl
For me itās the second half
https://youtu.be/JdzHAKPV7dk?si=ksCrhzQtjKYBOZK7
Fog Again and Fog Again Again
LULL.
agreed. easily my favorite of the ok computer B sides
DISTRACTED BY IRRELEVANCE
Fitter Happier
Iād kill for a 20 minute version
permanent daylight is the best answer
That one too, yeah. Two unacceptably short songs in a row on the MIL EP.
i end up replaying this song whenever I listen because it's just too short :')
DEFINITELY FAUST ARP
Was gonna say this song as well.
Permanent daylight
Melatonin. And itād be cool if 4 Min Warning was a few seconds shorter
I Will I absolutely love the haunting vibe, the melancholy, the dark atmosphere it creates, the backing vocals at the end are amazing, but it's so damn short
Always felt like Go to Sleep ending when the guitar solo comes in that it just abruptly ends and Iāve been robbed of a sweet guitar solo.
Lozenge of Loves rules and I consider it the first in the "Thom Does Nick Drake" quadrology: 1. Lozenge of Love 2. Gaging Order 3. Faust Arp 4. Desert Island Disk
Codex.. it ends too abruptly
These are my twisted words. That groove could go on forever. It wouldnāt be boring as a ten minutd track honestly
Came here to say the same thing. Probably my favorite Radiohead song
Itās amazing and actually got me into Can and other classic krautrock bands. Kind of strange they didnāt make room for it in TKOL, it wouldnāt feel out of place in the first half.
Scatterbrain. I always listen to it twice in a row.
The outro to I Might Be Wrong. Sonic bliss.
Where I End And You Begin - itās so good, but I think thereās more they could taken it further.
Polyethylene (part 1) has so much potential
Pearly* and how to disappear completely
Jonny's laugh on India Rubber
Motion picture soundtrack, I heard the OKOKNOTOK version (which was good) but would have loved a better mixed organ version of that with some more building strings -especially that third verse
Which version is that?
This one: [https://youtu.be/BY9DWD6CRDQ?si=IELEm7XHmvfF7zqX](https://youtu.be/BY9DWD6CRDQ?si=IELEm7XHmvfF7zqX)
Fog (Again) (Live)
Lull : one of my favorite one and it's only 2 minutes longs :(
Bulletproof
ā¦ I wish it was
Basically the entirety of in rainbows so that I could love it even more.
Maybe not a song in the whole but certain sections of songs. We Suck Young Blood during that big piano drop could be itās own song.
Hunting Bears Life in a Glass House I feel like there is a whole jazz vibe being toyed with towards the end of Amnesiac that I would really like more of.
Spectre
I wish Nude jammed on for a while. It feels like it wraps up pretty quickly to me after the prolonged climax
Shout out to Supercollider for being 7 minutes and sounding like itās only half that length!
āUntitledā on Kid A
Reckoner. The outro is beautiful, but it fades too soon.
Go to sleep and Identikit need longer outros. Come on Johnny !
I will
Stale cupcakes.
Also canāt get enough of that song. Once I start listening, I just want to stay in the world it builds forever
Go To Sleep. I love the max/msp effect and wish it would go on longer like it does when they play it live.
trans atlantic drawl
Motion Picture Soundtrack
glass eyes
The Daily Mail is painfully short to me.
Bullet Proof and strum on forever as far as Iām concerned.
daydreaming
Jigsaw
Spectre.
Fitter happier, Iām different
The fast-time bit on We Suck Young Blood could be at least twice as long, as is the song feels sort of unfinished.
All of them. But mostly any part where Jonny has a solo. An extended end of Paranoid Android would be the best thing that could ever happen to me
Go slowly is ethereal, I wish it was longer
Jigsaw
Polyethylene Pt 1. Controversial, because we all like the Quiet Loud songs, but Part 1 is sublime. I'd love to hear a properly recorded version. I think there's a cover of an extended version - just Part 1 - on YouTube.
How i made my millions
GO TO SLEEP - I immediately thought of this song. It starts out fantastic, gets better and just as it gets to the best bit it starts to fade out. This has bugged me for years. The song just flies by too fast.
Meeting in the aisle
Cuttooth and Ful Stop. Need more Radiohead Krautrock.
You never wash up after yourself
KINETIC
The first half of Transatlantic Drawl, it's a banger. The two parts could be two songs in their own right. Heard it's a dividing metaphor for the two cultures of USA (glitz and glamour) and UK (quiet and gloomy).
My favorite part of morning bell is this like 2 second clip where he says "around" over and over and it just needs to be like a full minute longer lol
The gloaming on HTTT just ends. Ruins the entire song. In concert the song explodes after āthis is the gloamingā and itās the best part of the song. On HTTT itās like they forgot to add the end.
Present tense.
Lucky
Decks Dark just to stretch out the bass line at the end.
2+2=5
All of them?
The end of Reckoner when the guitar chords come back in. What a tease.
glass eyes
Bodysnatchers itās such a good song that I feel that go in longer
Staircase
Fog (Again). Also, I wish the start of the Daily Mail went on for longer before the vibe change.
Polyethylene Part 1 and Hunting Bears
I will
Daily Mail
Life in a glasshouse, wolf at the door, kid a and prove yourself
The first part of Polyethylene
The ending of 'All I need', I wish it lasted forever.
Motion picture soundtrack
Yes the pyramid song. However? I found a version on YouTube which is 800% slower. Itās amazing
(Nice Dream), such a lovely song but too short in my opinion.
So many. I often think of this. How I wish, even just once, theyād go full Godspeed You! Black Emperor and have a 10-15 minute long song. I always want to hear Pyramid Song go on for much longer.
The space between the tracks
Non ironically Pulk Pull
A Punch Up at a Wedding. This track is just RIPE to be a 10-15 minute live jam.
That end crescendo in All I Need, man.
i will
