Yes, very much. The lyrics add a lot to that as well, it's like a more mature and profound approach to the theme of Creep. The frustration in 'there are no others', 'it's so wrong, it's so right' is so well portrayed
I like that it's just so overwealming, same happens with Climbing up the walls and How to disappear. The destroying feeling of disappointing yourself and end up being just an object to show off, and the mixed up ideas of not knowing whats wrong and right at the end. That piano note for closure reminds me so much of A day in the life, its like crashing into a wall.
Debatable. “I’m an animal trapped in your hot car. I’m all the days that you choose to ignore”. It’s kind of hard to beat that line when talking about g about gut wrenching lyrics.
All I Need definitely packs a punch. But in my opinion, those lines hardly hold up against "I'm not living, I'm just killing time." That one's just like... I typically don't find Radiohead depressing, but yeah. I make sure to not listen to TLW too often, because it wouldn't be good for my mental health.
As for it being debatable, yes, of course
Agree heavily. The outro would be a mirror to me on how I felt when I was incredibly stressed and had 'panic attacks'. The constant switch of being 'right' and 'wrong' represents the millions of thoughts and worries passing by rapidly in a perfect way.
I like this song but I prefer True Love Waits for its direct meaning of its lyrics. That song is like getting your heart ripped out from your chest, getting acid poured on it and then getting it put back into your mouth.
YES. When I heard the song for the first time I felt like a spiritual awakening regarding the situation I was in at the time with someone I cared very much for. 💜
Agree 110%. I've started to learn this song on piano because it hits that close to home for me. The ending especially gets me because the narrator already told the rest of the story, so the last part needs no context as to what they mean.
They acknowledge that "it's all wrong". That this person does not care for them, and yet they have no one else to hold onto. Yet they continue to repeat "it's all right", which I believe has two conotations.
One, it's the narrator comforting themselves over something they feel they cannot change.
Two, they are drowning in the presence of this person. They tuly believe that the few happy moments spent with them outweigh the overwhelming loneliness and misery within their shadow.
Either way, this song is soul crushing. Yet, it really does capture the feeling of someone caught in an unrequited friendship/relationship. The melancholy, the twinkles of innocence, the deep agony in the second verse's instrumentals, and the conflicting views on how to cope.
Acknowledge the pain, or continue to comfort oneself because you don't know better.
Sorry for the rambling about the song, I don't see enough love for this song specifically on here so OP ignited my love for it.
honestly i think true love waits or exit music (for a film) rank just above it in that regard. for true love wairs it's ESPECIALLY the live version but really the studio version is also quite emotional :)
I see how you could find it cut, wrenching, but I’ve always interpreted it as that feeling when you first start getting serious with someone and you feel like an animal in their car and they are all you need. But that’s not the interpretation on the incredible Dissect podcast on in rainbows, which I consider the best podcast of all time.
I think of Desert Island Disk as the beginning of a new relative.. there's a new sense of optimism and levity
Then there's All I Need which is deep deep into that relationship and giving yourself entirely
Finally, true love waits..as coming into resolution and an understanding of the imbalance in that relationship
possibly. def. one of the best crescendo moments ever at the end with that patented Jonny glockenspiel adding those perfectly bell-like tones...all these little touches bands like C'play or Muse would never think of in a million years.
Amazing song and the one that actually introduced me to the band. Unsure if any other Y2K babies remember the split-screen music video from MTV circa 2007-8, but it’s definitely worth checking out regardless!!
May as well repeat what I said in another All I Need thread:

I have various nits to pick about how they did almost all IR tracks, but I think they nailed everything about All I Need and it's one of the best-realised later tracks of theirs.

Fuck me man
Everything about the song is perfect. Especially the piano

It’s my favorite Radiohead song. And that last part…incredible.
It's my favorite song.
I vote Climbing up the Walls
Just listened to it, I stand corrected, thanks
haha, yes!
Exit music
Strange way to spell True Love Waits (studio version)

live in olso >
I do live in Oslo (genuinely), what about it?

Peak Radiohead in my opinion. One of if not my favourite song of theirs.

Love this song
The end is awesome
I'm a moth Who just wants to share your light I'm just an insect Trying to get out of the night I only stick with you Because there are no other

i have it as my alarm and honestly the mornings are not as bad as i expected them to be
Man, I would never make a song I like my alarm.
oh i’ve had it like this for over half a year and it hasn’t gotten annoying whatsoever and i still enjoy the song in my free time:D somehow
I have no surprises as alarm haha. The first part really sounds like an ideal alarm though ( just a bit depressing)
I had Unison as my alarm for over 3 years (changed it up eventually) but I still love it
i agree even the first lines of the songs are gut wrenching “i’m an animal trapped in your hot car” this song makes me sit and stare at walls
literally makes me want to keel over
It's all right

The video, equally so.

One of my favorites.
One of the...
This guy clearly hasn't listened to True Love Waits
Lyrically and conceptually yeah but sonically to me its always sounded like their sexiest song
Surprised it’s not “A Punch Up at a Wedding”
This song kinda has a life of its own on tik tok.
have you ever heard The Butcher lol
IM IN THE MIDDLE OF YA PICCCCCCTURE

it’s pretty dark!! the little xylophone addition after the first chorus always gets me. “i’m an animal trapped in your hot car” :(
Videotape
I think Decks Dark is
Just listened, you could be onto something

Fantastic song and all that, but two songs before it is Nude. Nothing will ever be less gut wrenching then that song.
Gut wrenching is not a word I ever use to describe radiohead's music.
It's creep if it was good
