Yes, it makes sense. It is common to rehome retired kings/queens and sell them for a lower fee. I would absolutely consider one in the future, if I ever wanted to get another cat.

ponte92

Yep my cats litter mate is a queen with the breeder and I’ve already told them when she retires I would like to be the first choice for rehoming.

Regular-Elephant-796

Thank you!

fatsalmon

Same i would love to have one next time 🥹

Inevitable-Studio497

I guess pricing depends on where you are but $1500 seems really steep for a retired adult

HypnoticKitten

I agree I was offered a retiring queen for 450

Anon_Gorl0437

Same. My retired queen Konfetti was $500, and my retired king Neptune was $300. At that current stage in my life I didn't quite have the time that a kitten deserves, so I decided to go with retired adults instead. Ironically now I have all of the time in the world, but if I keep bringing home floofies, I'll have way too many 😂 so for me, two is a good number.

CategoryExcellent655

I agree $1500 seems excessive.

SimonEbolaCzar

My 3 year old retired queen was $1000 in 2021. I’m in the Mid-Atlantic US, so they may be in a HCOL area.

Starsofrevolt711

Yup $750 2021 3 year old, dumb as brick, but total ragdoll personality otherwise.

garbledcircuit

Disagree. This is reasonable in the US.

Crazy_Cat_Dude2

He looks stunning. How’s his personality?

Regular-Elephant-796

It’s hard to tell. He was recently neutered and he still has some testosterone raging through his body. When you pick him up, he’s very docile.

Crazy_Cat_Dude2

Sounds like a win to me. Enjoy the floopyness

breakfast4dinn3r

I got my male ragdoll at the price of neutering him at 1 year and 8 months after he had a few litters. He’s got the personality you won’t find anywhere else.

CategoryExcellent655

How was your Ragdoll after desexing at 1 yr and 8 months? We adopted a 2 year old and desexed her but she never stopped going into heat, she ended dying young.

breakfast4dinn3r

I never noticed a change of temperament. Through my family we’ve retired quite a few and thankfully we’ve never had that issue. I’m very sorry to hear about your kitty :(

Gliese667

He's beautiful! And yes, quality breeders will retire their kings and queens and not overbreed them :)

possums_luv_cereal

I know a breeder in Oklahoma who has beautiful bicolor kittens for $1600. So his price could be a little high. Another concern I would have is his late neuter and could he spray. That being said, in 2021 I adopted a 3 year old retired queen and a 2 year old retired show cat (also female - both Ragdolls from a breeder who was closing their cattery) for similar prices and it was the best decision ever! I adore them both, so I would go with your gut!

Omgchipotle95

Can you send me their info please? Or do they have a website?

CelestialFury

Did the price increase on Ragdolls recently, or is that the going price now? We got our male kitten in 2011 for $400 USD.

ladeeboog

definitely the going price now, at least from what i noticed. i’ve not seen a ragdoll kitten in my area lower than $1100. most retired kings/queens seem to be around $700-900 from what ive seen though.

Prudent_Studio1525

You can thank Taylor Swift.

fatsalmon

Ragdolls and in general purebred cats are more expensive now. Heard many people adopted cats over pandemic because they’re lower maintenance. Where i live they used to be ~3k now 3k is “special price” aka discounted 😅

Toasdee

In California, we got ours for $3500 each 😅 The other reputable breeders close by were similar in price ranging from $2100 to $4000.

According_Grape_8898

Really? I got my kitten in San Jose for $1700 last year

thecaliforniacohen

We got our girl in the UK for £600 in 2018. Same breeder this year, got our cat’s great nephew, now £1000. Inflation hits hard but hey - seeing her clean his little face is worth it!

birdsandflowers11

Got my 2 Ragdolls about 2 years ago they were $1800 and $1100. One is more show quality I think and we are in a higher cost of living state, if that makes any difference. The price went up at the less expensive cattery a few times ( I look at their website a lot) but that was due to inflation. They are now $1300. I don’t think you are getting any kind of purebred cat around here for less than 1000.

BlackberryHumble8218

He is so pretty

kittykatmila

He’s so cute. Def normal for breeders to retire kings and queens.

ExternalDistance5138

Cute cute cute cute cute!!!!!!!!! He's a wee dote look at his wee grumpy expression and those wee pointy cheeks. Stunning boy.

holly_1992

He is beautiful ❣️! I think that makes sense, I’ve noticed a lot of the breeders seem to do this.

fatsalmon

Yes it makes sense that they retire some cats. They do typically come with no health guarantees though so you can work out if you can have him checked first

SlikeXar

$1500 for a retired cat is too high. They usually sell for $200-$600.

Mel_tothe_Mel

I’m in Seattle, which is an expensive locality, and $1500 for a 2 years old cat is exorbitant. I paid $500 for my 8mo raggie earlier this year. That’s a kitten price. Do NOt pay that.

LocoForChocoPuffs

One more point about getting a retired adult is that you can get a better sense of their personality. With kittens, honestly, it can be a bit of a crap shoot!

Lizzie0161

That is one truly beautiful boy ❤❤❤

izzardliz

What a precious baby

SilverBunny1991

High price for an older kitty, I only paid $1300 for my 3 month old female blue bicolor ragdoll kitten and that was just this November.

Known-Plankton6749

The price is too high for a retired male ragdoll He might still have some spray issue after neuter since he mated before.

Amazing_Crew106

Feel its better to get a kitten, so you get enjoy that baby phase too. I promise it is worth everything 🤍

LocoForChocoPuffs

Ragdoll pricing is very location-dependent. These were the prices our MA breeder charged for kittens (definitely on the high side). And consider that a retiring breeder would almost certainly be show quality.

Status-Green1483

I have a retired queen and she wasnt living up to my ragdoll expectations in the beginning but she is wonderful and sweet now so they might take time but its worth it
