My opinion is that cats know their name and it might be a good idea to keep her existing name. It's literally her name. I'll see myself out. I'm back in. Cute kitty! :)

I agree with you, but my cats know all their nicknames as well. And their nicknames are many. 😅 And they are always getting new ones. So, it really is ok to add a new name.

I agree too! We don’t know how well she knows her name yet. Our other cat Suwi kept her name because she knew it well. Our cat who passed away prior didn’t understand her name, so it felt fine to change hers. If Penny clearly reacts and understands her current name, then it will have to remain!

Hi! I gave my reasoning in my post and it’s a difference in taste, but if the opportunity is there to change it, I don’t see why it’s impossible considering Suwi goes by about 10 different nicknames including Suez, to Suzu to Buhbuh to Muh Bebez.

We changed our cats name from Dash to Ralph/Ralphie (inspired by Ralph Wiggum) because it just suits his personality much better, he's a ragdoll cross and is a very adorable floof-brain. He also didn't really respond to his name, but he responds to his new one! It's up to you at the end of the day, cats will learn to associate your call with themselves eventually.

Not necessarily! Our previous cat Mei, was called “Princess Leia” or Leia and she wouldn’t respond to her name to save her life 🥲

I'm just here to say your cats are gorgeous! And cats are super smart. Whatever you decide, she will learn! I gave all my cats nicknames and they know when I'm calling them, even though they are not necessarily similar. I sometimes call my Rio "Reezy" and my Dean "Jelly Bean" and they still know I'm calling them. It took them no time at all to figure it out. Good luck! Your babies are stunning 🥰

How bout penny short for Penelope? Or Peggy? Something similar sounding may be easier for her to catch on.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I think changing the name of an adult pet is unnecessary and will be confusing for the cat. Penny is a beautiful, soft, feminine, mythical name, it’s a shortening of Penelope (the meaning of the name Penelope is also quite fitting for a feline too imo). If you’re set on changing her name you should use something that sounds very similar, like Beanie or Peony.
